Flashbacking the previous Monday Mel walked inside Team Adam's rehearsal studio smiling as the Maroon 5 frontman and Knockout advisor Bruno Mars stood by the piano opposite.
"Hey, Mel how was your weekend?" Adam said.
"Great thanks." The latter replied.
"Good." He sported. "This is Bruno Mars."
Mel and the other man shook hands before she uttered. "Nice to meet you."
"Same here." He smiled back. "Adam's told me a lot about you."
"Good things I hope." The thirty-nine-year-old bade.
"Definitely." Bruno popped. "Like our fondness for hats."
He pointed at Mel's black bowler hat before tapping his cream fedora cap.
"I can't wait to hear you sing." He continued saying, "Your family must be proud how far you've come."
"There certainly shocked I made it to the Knockout Round." Mel relayed.
"Well if you put in the rehearsals and hard work it pays off, doesn't it? Adam stated.
"Absolutely." His red-haired protegee agreed.
"And now you're here you get to choose what song to sing." Bruno stipulated.
"Finally," Mel mentioned sarcastically.
Adam laughed out loud before Mel and he walked over to the piano as the Voiceband members stood opposite.
"Alright, then we'll go through some of these and try them out or decide whatever otherwise."
"Okay." She quipped thumbing the paper sheets whilst he sat down at the piano ready to begin.
Mel sang Maroon 5's 'This Love' a while afterward which Adam keyed in acoustically as she got to grips with the song.
This love has taken its toll on me. She said goodbye too many times before.
And her heart is breaking in front of me. I have no choice 'cause I won't say goodbye anymore, Woah, Woah, Woah, Woah, Woah, Woah, Woah, Woah, Woah, Woah, Woah.
Pausing subsequent Adam stared consciously when Mel looked undecided.
"You okay?" He asked.
"Fine yeah, I um." She related.
"Don't like the song?" Adam retorted.
"No, it's great." Mel batted. "But err."
"You don't feel connected to it like other ones perhaps?" Bruno questioned.
"Not right now." The woman repeated.
"Then go with your instincts." He boasted. "What song suits your voice, is something you've performed regular on, are passionate about, you know will get you through to the Playoffs, and makes you feel comfortable doing because if you have those things then you can achieve anything."
"Yeah, of course." Mel nodded. "I do have one actually I was considering."
"Let's hear it," Bruno commanded.
Wednesday afternoon Bruno showed up seeing Adam and Melissa do some type of musical theatre thing on the Voice main stage fooling around already.
"Have I walked onto the wrong stage or something?" He laughed out loud.
"Nope Adam and I were just playing it cool like the Jets from West Side Story." The lady prompted throwing out her jazz hands at him.
Dancing toward Bruno clicking her hands Mel sang the first verse and chorus jamming.
Boy, boy, crazy boy, Get cool, boy!
Got a rocket in your pocket, Keep coolly cool, boy!
Don't get hot, 'Cause man, you got some high times ahead.
Take it slow and Daddy-O, You can live it up and die in bed!
Throwing his hands up Bruno butted in. "Okay, I get it." "Adam I didn't think you were a musical man?"
"I'm not really." The taller one slated.
Leaning forward Mel put her hand right on her left cheek whispering "He is secretly but just never tells anyone about it." "He's probably got his theatre DVD's stashed home somewhere hiding them."
"Alright then," Bruno noted.
Mel got him to join in with them before the P.M. session commenced.
Early Friday evening Bruno and Adam listened on whilst Mel strummed John Lennon's 'Imagine' inside the boxed staged arena acoustically.
Imagine there's no heaven. It's easy if you try. No hell below us. Above us only sky. Imagine all the people. Living for today.
You, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh ooh. You may say that I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us. And the world is live as one.
You may say that I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us. And the world will live as one.
"Wow." The smaller musician rated.
"Yeah." The other agreed.
"Her voice with that song live is crazy." Bruno backed again. "Good choice."
"Absolutely." Adam dipped. "That's one of my favorites actually."
"How Mel's not had a record contract already baffling despite why you told me not yet." The latter piped in.
"Well if she wins the Voice then she will do although there are other fantastic contestants obviously." Adam chipped in.
"Of course, but out of your team Mel is one the strongest and one of your best chances of winning probably." Bruno quipped.
"Definitely." The tattooed man acknowledged.
They both congratulated the eldest Charmed One once she'd finished singing.
"Nicely done Mel." Adam stoked high fiving her hand.
Mel doing that back smiled commenting. "Thanks, Adam."
"Yeah you connected well with the song showcased your vocal range, and what the stories about." Bruno pitched.
"I did think this would be a good one to do." She referenced.
"And you looked comfortable up there like I previously mentioned." The black-haired man submitted.
"Which is key also." His partner retained. "Along with good song choice."
"Sure." Mel notched then.
In a room later she spoke in front of a camera about her seven-day experience.
"This week I had fun working with Bruno getting to choose what song I sang because being Christian this one resonates a lot teaching, us what kind of a world we could live in if everyone accepted God's love and one another."
Cutting back Mel wearing her black bowler hat with a cream top and blue jeans combination stood inside the boxing ring-style stage layout strumming her acoustic guitar as the first words to John's iconic song sprang out.
Imagine there's no heaven. It's easy if you try. No hell below us. Above us only sky.
The crowd swung their hands back and forth with their phones lit up as the chords sounded louder. Bruno smiled on from the audience.
Imagine all the people. Living for today.
Each coach glanced on with Blake smiling, Christina nodding, and Cee-Lo and Adam talking.
Cee-Lo: Man that's beautiful.
Adam: "Hmm." He nodded.
Her opponent Casey Weston sat behind her mimed along.
You, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh ooh. You may say that I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us. And the world will be as one.
Mel's family Piper, Paige, Victor, Henry, the kids, and Leo cheered silently on in the audience before she lowered her tone singing the chorus once more.
You may say that I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.
The hairs on Adam's forearms stood up as he looked on proud.
I hope someday you'll join us. And the world.
People applauded slightly when there was a short pause before the last words rang out.
Will live as one.
When the last notes sprung out. Mel said thank you before she and Casey congratulated one another as the crowd whistled both.
Speaking next Carson spout. "Wow what a knockout." "Firstly I liked to thank Bruno Mars for helping out."
He waved on when the other chartered. "Then ask the coaches what they thought?"
"I'm surprised, Casey." Christina pitched. "That was really good." "Better than I thought the way you sang the song."
"Thank you, Christina." The person commented.
"And Mel your voice was effortless and cool." The diva punched.
Piper's daughter thanked her also.
"Adam it's gonna be tough." Christina mocked.
Cee-Lo carved in. "Casey you made the song your own setting yourself apart from the original artist that I loved."
"Thank you, Cee-Lo." Casey whistled.
"Whilst Mel I liked your simple version of Imagine and how it made me feel happy and warm ." The colored guy pronounced. "Seeing that now I understand why Adam didn't change you and why it was a mistake for me to suggest I do so in your blind audition."
"I appreciate that Cee-Lo," Mel answered.
Blake summed up his opinion then. "First Casey that was great." "A vast improvement from your blind audition and something I didn't know you could do."
Spying Mel the country singer continued. "And Mel second I'm still mad you didn't pick me as your coach 'cause I loved how vocal and simple you interpreted the song showcasing your personality and who you are as a singer."
She laughed at his remark saying, "Thank you."
"Right Adam it's down to you," Carson remarked. "Who gets your final spot in the Playoffs?"
Peering on the latter spoke. "Let me say how proud of you both I am the way you took the advice and the hours you put in." "I mean Casey the difference in you and how you coped with the song is great."
Casey smiled hearing that as the audience and her relatives applauded on ahead.
"And Mel the way you sang making the hairs on our forearms stand up literally takes someone truly gifted to affect people like that." Adam perceived.
