Rose McGowan Is Keen For A 'Charmed' Revival

During a visit to the Paris Manga & Sci-Fi Show, artist and activist Rose McGowan talked to Charmed fans and answered the inevitable question concerning a potential revival of the series, in which she played Paige Matthews, Piper, Phoebe and Prue's half-sister, from Season 4 to Season 8.

"That's a really hard one. I think I would if it was a limited series on maybe Netflix or Amazon. Eight episodes, that'd be amazing, and I would hope that Shannen Doherty would be in it too."

In her autobiography, Brave, released in February 2018 (just after the #MeToo movement began in October 2017, launched in part by Alyssa Milano), Rose McGowan spoke out about her time on Charmed, and particularly about the fact that the show wasn't as feminist as it might have seemed from the story it told.

Given her desire to participate in a Charmed revival with her former colleagues, it seems that the actress and director might be looking back on that time in her life a bit more positively. Or perhaps she'd like to see a truly feminist version of Charmed. It's true that many women would probably like that idea too, given the cult status of the original series. There's just one problem: The CW launched a somewhat successful reboot in 2018, with three new, younger and more woke sisters, with a very 2019 vibe reflecting the post-#MeToo society we live in. Will the two projects be able to cohabit our screens peacefully? Only the power of three will tell.

Sometimes, I wonder if, at these conventions, most of them just say what fans want to hear, when they know all too well it is unlikely to happen.

I've given up hope we'd get one, don't want to get my hopes up, as I have with some of the other whispers we heard a few years ago.

I don't see them bringing back Classic Charmed for a revival. Not with the feuding between the stars, and if CBS wanted to bring it back, we'd have gotten one not countless attempts to reboot it that had been going on six-year.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll say what fans want to hear. But, I'm surprised Rose would be up for such a thing, she hasn't been very high on Charmed in the past, given her experience on it not being so pleasant. I think she hated the long hours, she strikes me as doing a job for a couple of months, and then moving onto something else, she hated the long hours and being attached to something for too long.

She mostly enjoys been behind the camera now though don't she so it's surprising hearing that considering what she experienced on the show originally.

I'm surprised she said that.

I wonder if whispers and talk are happening, we can hope, but I'll never get my hopes up.

Doubtful.

But Rose likes working behind the camera and less as an actress. So I don't know.

Maybe she'll do it, if she has more behind the scenes control with producing, directing and writing. Which she has done in recent years.

I'm surprised by that. Didn't think she wants to act any more. Guess she feels differently now.

It's nice to hear Rose say this at a convention. Yes, Rose would not sign on for anything that means she'll be doing this for 10 months a year. Maybe she WOULD agree to do a limited series of no more than 6-8 episodes.

Alyssa and Holly have worked together again now on Grey's Anatomy, so are Rose and Alyssa cool now and friends again, if Rose said this?

Just Shannen and we know how stubborn she can be, If they really did something, I don't know if she'd be on it. Her feud with Holly might prevent her from signing on.

But they can't do it, not with CBS and how they are treating the original, and they own the rights, so you can't get anything off the ground without their approval, and the rip-off is still on air, so it won't happen anytime soon.

Just seems like Rose is always all over the place when it comes to the topic of charmed. One day she absolutely hates it and the next day she’s all for it. Seems it depend on her mood at the time of being asked.

She really does, with how she feels. Hard to really take her seriously sometimes. But, she's just like Shannen too in regards to the topic of Charmed sometimes changing how she feels all the time.
