I agree with Elle Em personally. When Piper doesn't have love she's such a breath of fresh air. That's why her Season 1 self is sooo good! I also like her moments in Season 2 where the romance isn't the main focus point (i.e. Astral Monkey, Apcalyspe Not, P3 H20) It's so much the complete absence of love interesting, but not a focus on them. Even in Season 3, she was obviously going in a different direction, the comedic relief sister. Since Prue and Phoebe became the more "involved" sisters when it came to witchcraft. Outside of Wrestling with Demons and Death Takes a Halliwell I didn't mind Piper in Season 3 because there's not a lot of chances where she has to act terrible toward Leo sans Exit Strategy. She still considered innocents (her grief over them almost losing Kate in Once Upon a Time is a good example, where she felt guilty because her selfishness in wanting Leo back got Kate in danger) and even has sympathetic moments like Coyote Piper (almost reminded me of Season 1 Piper where she feels insecure and mousy around other people.) I think there's not enough focus of Piper's best and worst moments. I'm conflicted with her in Seasons 2 & 3, I don't dislike her, but there are many scenes where she's certainly unpleasant. But it's only when romance is involved, otherwise I don't think Piper is terrible as a character overall she just has moments. Maybe this is because her later season self is so horrid that by comparison she seems saint. But I think her better moments don't enough credit. I mean can you really say any version of Piper is worse than Season 8 version? That version of Piper feels just evil, it seemed by that point they could care less giving Piper any moments where she wasn't bitter or hateful. It's the only time in the show I felt she was unbelievably cruel, and usually PhoeME is my least favorite. I've noticed this every time I re-watch the series, how less I enjoy the Piper/Leo romance, I loved them back when I was a teenager. But now, they just bring out the worse in each other. I even prefer Leo's scenes with Prue and Phoebe, especially his brotherly relationship with Phoebe. Maybe Phoebe and Leo would make a better couple. LOL But Piper, I just tend to now dislike her in her romantic stories, and love her when she is playing the middle sister, or involved in the A plots of the episode, not the B love arc plots she gets. Maybe, Piper was just better off being the sister to never get married or start a family. She just always seemed to miserable. If it wasn't for her trip to the future and seeing she got married and had a daughter, I wonder how differently she'd feel, if she'd still want children, if she didn't see herself in the future having a child. Even with Phoebe, I like her in the few episodes after 'Sleuthing With the Enemy' when Cole isn't present. She reminds me of the Phoebe I love in 'Pre Witched', 'Size Matters' and 'Trial By Magic'. And the one relationship I loved was Paige with Henry, funny considering she wasn't raised with her sisters. Maybe Paige should have been the married sister with a child, and not her sisters in S5-S8. lol Prue and Phoebe always got the more central plotlines with witchcraft and the main story of every episode, and always were paired together more often, because Piper was always getting her romantic story. I never noticed before, but a majority of the episodes in S1-S3 ended and started with Prue/Phoebe together, while Piper is off somewhere else. But, figures as much, since her romantic storylines were so big to her character. But, if you take away Piper's love stories, and say forwarded them in the episodes, I think you can enjoy and love Piper so much more, if you pretended all her love storylines are off-screen and just mentioned. Because, she is truly a breath of fresh air. I love Piper at her best, when she is playing mediator to Prue and Phoebe as the middle sister and the comedic relief sister with all the funny one liners.

Agreed 100% ironically though one of Piper's last good moments in the show was with Leo (Saving Private Leo) afterwards she loses any likability she had. This post has inspired me to make an thread going over her faults, where she went downhill and her good moments.

Might be the only decent one for the couple after Season 3 or the last truly good P/L episode in the series. Maybe call it the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Piper Halliwell. Good moments, bad moments and just truly ugly moments.

Part of me thinks they would have made a good couple in that I can see them bringing out the best in each other, especially with Phoebe. Rather than being constantly drawn to darkness with Cole, it would be the opposite with Leo. But I also appreciate the platonic relationships of the show, and how Phoebe and Leo really exemplified the brother-sister dynamic well. There was a lot of emphasis on sisterhood and on romantic relationships, so their brother-sister bond was fun to see as a bit of a change. And considering that Prue died and Paige was in and out of the manor after season 5, Leo and Phoebe were the longest standing sibling relationship of the show that wasn't about just sisters.

They sure had great chemistry, and I just remembered Alyssa and Brian dated during S3 and S4 too, much like Shannen and Julian did. Imagine, if they switched things around. Prue with Cole, Phoebe with Leo and Piper being the single sister that Prue was after Andy died. Phoebe had a love of magic and really loved being a witch, her connecting with Leo would fit. But, I do appreciate, the brother-sister bond, and I didn't think about it like that Phoebe and Leo had the longest standing sibling relationship outside of the sisters. I wished the series focused more on this, and or Darryl's friendship with the sisters. I could have handled more of these relationships and a bit less on the romantic relationships, so we could more of a balance.

I too wished for more sibling and friendship stories than romance. It can't be discounted completely without being unrealistic, but there was so much emphasis on romantic love in this show. Those plots could have been cut in half or even just put off further into the series. Just Piper and Leo's story alone feels like it takes up a solid quarter of the show.

I could have handled more of these relationships and a bit less on the romantic relationships, so we could more of a balance. I agree totally. And I also wished that if they kept phoebe and Coles relationship together as a couple, it would be as they were in the last episodes of season 3 and the beginning of season 4 up until he took in the source. They both worked good together and could have done a lot of the heavy lifting for the sisters whenever piper or Paige weren’t available. I also had no issues with piper and Leo being a couple, but I would have kept them together without children until the end of the series. There was just so much more interesting dynamics when Kids weren’t around and all 5 of them worked together. There was the dynamics between Cole and Leo, when they sometimes worked together. “A Muse to my Ears”, “brain Drain” and “Charmed Again”. I loved whenever piper would send Leo up to the elders to find out info and phoebe send Cole underground at the same time to see what he could find and they each would return with different info they gathered, or when Leo and Cole would go underground together. youtu.be/V9ysQd1tkMI
