I am curious about this. I thought Shannen didn't agree to have her likeness used, let alone a 'Charmed' production photo? Why could they use this image but have to change Prue's appearance in the other comics? The image is here:

I'm not sure but Prue's image appeared in the Charmed magazines and on the covers for the issues once the show went off the air (I remember because in late 2006, suddenly Prue and Shannen were featured in the Charmed magazines where they never were before when the show was airing), but in conventions, Shannen claimed they never even asked her for the rights to her image to use Prue in the comics I believe.
But the rights to Shannen's image is always weird, as some international trailers for the show after S3, are able to use Prue in them, but the American WB promos couldn't. So the rights do not apply internationally.
Maybe it just comes down to money and paying Shannen and not being able to afford, but who knows maybe Shannen demanded to see how she was going to be drawn and look like in the comics first before she approved the rights to her likeness.
Did Paul Ruditis ever his reason and why she didn't look like Shannen in the comics?

I thought I remembered her saying they didn't want to pay her enough or something - I can't find the video. I will keep searching. Maybe they just paid her once because they felt strongly Prue should be seen at least once since she wasn't in the show after her departure. I am fairly certain they would have to pay her for this image, because if they didn't, what would be stopping them from including her in the season eight photo wall? Or maybe Shannen gave them permission to use her photo once for the fans... Here is Alyssa talking about her involvement in the comics - it may shed light on the situation...

Thanks Forbuss, for sharing this, and hope you can find that video. Guess either they couldn't meet the demands of Shannen or she declined the artwork for the rendition of her character. Would not surprise me, if Shannen was very picky about the way she was going to be drawn and didn't like it, so declined to let them use her likeness in the comics. I do think it came down to money and paying her, as you said, if they didn't have to pay her, she'd have been on the Season 8 photo wall.

It isn't like Shannen hasn't approved for her image to be used for the Charmed DVDs and Magazines for instance, so it is really about money. How come she can be used in Charmed merchandise but not on the series with her photo?
Maybe paying her to use her likeness in the comics for an on-going series costs more than using existing images of Prue/Shannen from the past, or Paul Ruditis never planned to have Prue look like Shannen at all, or unlike Alyssa and the others who loved and approved some of the artwork for the rendition for their characters, Shannen didn't and wasn't happy with the way she was drawn.

I think the DVDs can be explained because Shannen didn't own Charmed or the character of Prue, or the scripts that she performed. Her contract likely included a provision for use of her image on the DVD covers - this is something she would want anyway because she would make money off of it. Shannen can't prevent the from airing reruns of the show with her in it, I think the same theory applies for the DVD covers. Sometimes it bugs me how much Shannen talks about how much she loves the fans and how loyal they are. I found this quote from Paul Ruditis:

Yeah, her contract probably doesn't include DVD covers and Magazine covers. Sometimes it bugs me how much Shannen talks about how much she loves the fans and how loyal they are. I found this quote from Paul Ruditis: TMC: Looks like Shannen didn't give them the rights, did they ask for her likeness rights before they attempted to start drawing outlines of her. I'm wondering if Shannen wanted to see how she'd look like drawn before giving them the rights. Because, Alyssa said in an interview she had to approve the artwork for the rendition first. Sounds like a bit of an ongoing thing trying to get her to agree when they said it was a time consuming process, I would not be surprised if she was only willing, if they'd have shown her rough sketches of Prue first, before agreeing to give her likeness rights away and they said no, she she said forget it. I only think this, because of how she wouldn't agree to sign on for the 90210 reunion show, until she saw a script first, and took so long to agree to come back for that. She must have pretty big demands.

So these Book Of Shadows entries are from the comics then?
I've seen then before online when googling and thought they were something fan created having not read the comics then.

I believe they are from issue 0 more like a special tie-in issue used to catch readers up on Charmed's eight-year history from the show, to prepare them for the season 9 comics.

Yes, her image appears in "issue 0" of the comics. Shannen kept changing her reason for not wanting to be in the 90210 re-reboot. Initially it was she was horrified they were doing it after the death of a castmate. Then it was something else, then it was the script. It's just like how in Charmed she's changed her story about leaving every time she talks about it... I have a sense that she was still bitter or something. This makes me sad because the comics really had nothing to do with the series, other than having to get approval from CBS - who inherited the rights to Charmed AFTER it's run - CBS didn't have anything to do with the show while it aired and definitely had nothing to do with Shannen's exit. I wonder if the other stars made money off their likeness. I wish I knew what that contract was like.

Out of all the cast members, I only believe Holly when she speaks the truth on Shannen leaving, I always take what Shannen, Rose, and Alyssa say with a grain of salt, they tend to have a habit of being inconsistent with their stories most times.
