I'm doing a second attempt at this thread. Since it refreshed on me and lost all my stuff. So lucky something inside me told me to copy everything and paste it into a notepad file. So I just had to re-post.
I decided to post my reviews here than in the anniversary board, unless there was a board just for us new fans. I did skim the first episode thread. I like the grades and moments. So I'm going to use that for my reviews.
Since I have never watched the series at all. I fear spoilers and why I think posting it here might be better for me.
Going to re-post my review of Something Wicca This Way Comes including my backstory on how I came to watch it.
My backstory:
I'm a new fan of Charmed that lives in France.
I just started the series. Because I discovered it as a recommendation through what I just discovered was now the reboot series. But I had no idea that was based on an older series since they share the same name.
So I asked one of best friends if he ever saw Charmed the original series. And he did watch the original series back in the day before we knew each other. He didn't see the reboot he admitted as he has different interests these days. He told me I have to check it out for Holly Marie Combs. As I was a fan of Pretty Little Liars and Holly Marie Combs was on that show. That was enough to check it out.
My friend also told me that Shannen Doherty from 90210 was on it and asked If I saw that show and I said I did a little. I didn't like her on that show at all especially the new 90210 show. He said Alyssa Milano is in it and asked if I saw her in anything. I think I had but most of them I didn't really care much for. Her name sounded more familiar to me as that #Metoo activist. Her name appears in the news here and there. I remembered she got into a big fight with Rose McGowan (the Scream star) who called her a fraud or something.
I didn't know they were both on Charmed. But now it all fits. As My friend said Rose joins later on Charmed but won't spoil how and when.
We'll I decided to give the show a try. I was already interested because of it being what came before the reboot.
Something Wicca This Way Comes Review
I watched the first episode. So far I already can't stand Prue. Yet again another Shannen Doherty character that I don't seem to like. I'm already in love with Piper. Holly keeps winning me over with her characters. Phoebe is fun.
Andy is cute so I hope he sticks around. But he seems to know about the occult and witches. He told his partner Darryl stuff. So I hope he is a friend and not an enemy. The way the reboot had Maggie's boyfriend turn out to be a half demon and acting shady for a few episodes in early season 1. Maybe the reboot got that idea from the original Charmed. I don't think so, not after Jeremy was the bad guy.
I'm a bit surprised they did away with Jeremy so quickly. Not what I expected. They did make Andy a bit shady since he knows about witches with knowledge which he admitted.
For a show that came out in 1998. The special effects look great and it's in HD. But I guess they remastered it and that's what I'm watching.
The way they discover their powers was more mysterious. As the reboot has a whitelighter who was assigned and told them and they got the choice to accept their destiny or not. Here it doesn't seem to be a choice and more them being on their own.
So the reboot had their mother die in the pilot and here it's their Grams. Their father is missing and they have an aunt and a cousin. Who I guess appear later on.
Andy is like Mel's girlfriend as a cop. I sure hope the show won't get rid of Andy so quickly like the reboot did.
So far Piper is way better than Mel as the middle sister. I don't like Prue apart from when she had her melt down getting medicine and Phoebe got through to her. Macy from the reboot was much more likeable as the older sister in the first episode.
How old are the sisters? Prue feels like she is about 29, Piper about 26 and Phoebe seems to be about 20 or 21.
Is Charmed filmed in San Francisco? I hope so. I'd like to see the lovely city and learn the culture.
Phoebe must have stayed up all night reading so much. I'm surprised we didn't see her reading. Love to see her geek out about all the stuff she learned.
Was the witch killed in the opening scene part of a coven who protects new witches. Sure seemed like she was with the symbols and the familiar. She looked like she was doing a protection spell but got killed. I wonder if the original series will have elder witches guiding the Charmed ones, like the reboot. I sure hope so. Maybe this witch was one of those. I love the culture of witches. So dying to see how the original series explores witches and the different covens.
Chef Moore was embarrassing. His french accent made me cringe. Omg!
So glad Piper got the job. I used to work at a restaurant as my first job for four years before I got my dream job. So I'll have fun watching the Quake stories Piper might have.
I hated Roger. And can't see what Prue saw in him.
I noticed the cat kept poping up throughout the episode in the background.
I really loved the first vanquish. So well acted and shot.
One thing I like here than the reboot. The music score. It's amazing and so magical and fits the show. I got goosebumps when Phoebe found the book of shadows.
The paper Prue is holding near the end. Is so a prop paper. I'm sure I've seen that exact paper used in other American productions. Am I wrong?
I loved Piper getting the last line 'this should be interesting'. Because I sure felt the same way with where this is going.
Prue closing the door was a nice way to end the episode. But I'm surprised that Piper and Phoebe didn't watch her do it. I'd love to see have seen their reactions.
Grade: A-
Moments:
1. Phoebe finds the book of shadows (the music score, the mystery and how great the lighting was filmed) 2. Piper learns Jeremy is a warlock (because I sure was fooled like Piper) 3. 'Take That Nancy Drew' (I've read Nancy Drew books before)

Nice to read your review Daisy! I have noticed a lot of Charmed fans come from France.
I am so curious to see how your views of the sisters change.. ! Piper used to be my favourite too. She was the sister I most related to.

She was the sister I most related to. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I look forward to seeing the sisters progress and grow. I found out France has quite a following here, and from what my friend told me, a big convention following too. Firstly welcome to the board, Daisy. I enjoyed your review of the pilot. I look forward to you watching more. Thanks. I watched the next one, and going to post my thoughts now.

I've Got You Under My Skin Review
I didn't like this episode at all. It was kind of boring, apart from loving and cheering for Piper with her really fun subplot about her fears about entering a church.
So we are introduced to Prue's new bosses. Hannah, just made my roll my eyes. Rex was alright though.
I found the Javana demon of the week plot kind of predictable and boring.
I loved hearing the song Torn! I really love that song!
Prue and Andy's scene, especially the one at Quake was so awkward. I don't know why, but the interactions between Prue and Andy are much different than they were last episode.
Again, still not warming up to Prue's character. She rubbed me the wrong way when she first slept with Andy, uses her powers to get rid of Andy's alarm clock and bails and then uses her powers on the elevator. Then she has the nerve to belittle Phoebe for using her powers to help a sweet old couple and herself. Come on Prue, stop it, look in the mirror.
Nice to see Piper is working. But that annoying fake Frenchman Chef Moore hires her an then quits an makes her manager. On the bright side, I won't have to cringe with Chef Moore's embarrassing French accent again, so that is good. But still I feel so bad for Piper.
I really liked the conversation between Piper and Phoebe in the attic about their powers and where they came from. What I didn't get, was why the heck wasn't Prue included in this scene. This should have been one that all three were in.
But Phoebe is so right when she said there's no way they were given these gift if it wasn't to do good things with it. To protect the innocent just like the Book Of Shadows said.
I got such a fright when Phoebe was grabbed from behind right after she had a premonition.
Another thing, Piper sure got over Jeremy quick. I was a little disappointed, they didn't touch on that a little. Dating a warlock for so long, surly it still affects Piper.
I wished this episode connected better with the pilot in some way (as it didn't feel like Prue and Andy lined up well with how they were in the first episode and the hairstyles changed. Prue sure could trim her ends. Phoebe's hair is so much better in this episode than the pilot, I thought her hair in the pilot was a wig to be honest. Was Alyssa wearing a wig, as her hair didn't look as natural as it does in this episode). As it really didn't feel like the second episode carrying on from the pilot episode to me. It felt like I was missing something. The reboot managed to do this better. I wonder if this was not the second episode in production order or was not written in mind originally to be the second one?
I noticed that the lottery ticket numbers fade away, due to personal gain. I guess this will continue in the future, when they use personal gain.
I did like them toasting to the power of three closing out the episode. Nice to end an episode on a good note.
I'm still going to continue on. But this wasn't that great of an episode. Oh well, maybe the next one will be fun. But, I did come out of this one, loving Piper even more than I did in the first episode. I continue to love the awesome musical score (the reboot sure doesn't have one as great as the original does here) Sadly my reactions to Prue have not changed at all, but I might come around on her.
Grade: C
Moments: 1. Piper yelling 'I'm Good' 2. A toast to the power of three. Whether we like it or not. 3. Don't put me in the middle. No, you were born in the middle...

I actually prefer her doing them here. Only members can see the ones you're talking about. And it's easier to read all of hers rather than having to go do a different thread and going to the end of it. Great job, Daisy! I'm glad you're enjoying this even after watching the rip-off, pardon me, the reboot.

It does make discussing every separate review easier, though, especially in the future when a new member might pop in.

It's very pleasant to read a first reaction. I remember through you that Piper was my favorite sister. Maybe she's my favorite sister in the first season. Essaies de regarder la saison complète même si tu t'ennuies, la deuxième moitié vaut le coup.

Well, we have to disagree on that. I don't see why posting there would spoil anything. I just think that posting in separate threads might generate more discussion..

Daisy, I hope you are going to continue these. I'm another new member who joined the other month and watched S1 for the first time. So it will be so cool if read over someone else's first-time reviews too.
I hope the constant debates of where you should post these reviews haven't scared you off from posting more.

I hope the constant debates of where you should post these reviews haven't scared you off from posting more. I think that might be a bit of an exaggeration. I'm not sure why my suggestion is taken so negatively, I was just trying to be helpful by referring to a place that might generate more discussion. But Daisy should post wherever they want, of course.

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. I'm not sure why my suggestion is taken so negatively, I was just trying to be helpful by suggesting a place that might generate more discussion. You did have a helpful suggestion and I'd agree, if it wasn't for Daisy making it clear in her first post that she doesn't want to be spoiled and why she is posting it here.
She certainly can post her reviews in those threads. But remember, we are all fans who have seen the episodes many times. What happens when the discussions drift from Daisy's first time reviews, and to other episodes. Daisy will have to leave all those threads, or us longtime fans will have to keep remembering to only talk about the current episodes and not slip up mentioning anything that comes after. It happens too often.
And if someone else pops in the thread and misses Daisy's review from another page, and talks about the episode, they' might forget to not mention anything that comes after. So if Daisy pops back in, she'll likely stumble upon spoilers if someone doesn't JUST talk about the current episode and nothing about future episodes.
That's why I think Daisy made the right decision.
But I do love that you wanted to try and generate discussions there. I do love our anniversary board, especially with our re-watches, and it generates others to do their own re-watches or comment on others re-watch reviews.

You did have a helpful suggestion and I'd agree, if it wasn't for Daisy making it clear in her first post that she doesn't want to be spoiled and why she is posting it here. Ah yes, she did say that. I think that after seeing her subsequent review it just made me realize that it might be more practical for someone to go to the appropriate episode thread for each review by Daisy they are interested in reading and discussing instead of having to scroll through multiple pages with discussions becoming intertwined. I didn't think there were too many spoilers on that board, but if Daisy is afraid there are, then sure, they shouldn't post there. Anyway, I do hope the off-topic discussion didn't keep Daisy from posting here again.

Anyway, I do hope the off-topic discussion didn't keep Daisy from posting here again. Having been part of our re-watches for the past three years when we do them in the anniversary board, we have had a habit of bringing up episodes that follow, and also conversation rarely stays in topic of the current episode (force of habit I suppose).
But you have a point in having to scroll through multiple pages to find discussions. Perhaps AW our admin will allow for a subboard be created for any new fans (or first time watchers) or those who do not want to be spoiled and have that in the anniversary board. That way, us old fans will know that when we discuss and go into that subboard for the separate episode threads for those reviews to not bring up any plots that follow the current episode talked about.
I sure hope it didn't scare Daisy off from posting here again. I always enjoy seeing the show through new eyes and it's cool that the reboot has managed to do one thing right, and it is having those fans find Classic Charmed like it has with Silas (although he started 4 and 5 first before going back to 1-3) and Daisy.
I'm a bit jealous because, I sure wished I could have my original reviews when I first watched Charmed.

Lol, back in the 90s when I first watched the show, it didn't even cross my mind to write down any reviews! I don't even remember what I thought, except that I enjoyed it!
I've read some of Silas' reviews and I was happy to see they loved season 1 since that's my favourite!😊

Going to re-post my review of Something Wicca This Way Comes including my backstory on how I came to watch it. Always nice to see new fans. Sorry you lost your stuff, and had to re-do it, but glad you had a saved copy already. Yeah, you best bet is to avoid places where you might be spoiled. Since you are brand new fan, who has never watched Charmed at all (just the reboot). My backstory: I'm a new fan of Charmed that lives in France. I just started the series. Because I discovered it as a recommendation through what I just discovered was now the reboot series. But I had no idea that was based on an older series since they share the same name. I was already interested because of it being what came before the reboot. I'm so glad that the reboot brought you to us and the Classic Charmed series. Nope, the Classic One came first. The reboot just took the name. I really wished they had a different name, so people like you could tell them apart, and not assume that that was the only show named Charmed. I can already tell from skimming your review that Piper is your favorite so far. I hope it continues to stay that way. Yeah sadly most of the star are more in the media for their current projects and stuff not related to Charmed. But then again, the show has been ended for over 20 years, so It makes sense. I just wish they got to do more press for Charmed, and press for the 20th anniversary never happened, I heard they were contacted but ONLY if they promoted the reboot in the process. So it was less about celebrating the legacy of the Classic show and more press for the reboot. I won't spoil but as you friend said, Rose joins later. I won't say how and when. I hope you don't mind Daisy. I'm going to comment along to your review with my comment in bold. Just easier than quoting every comment, and losing older comments if we do go back and forth. I'll keep in mind not to spoil anything past the second episode (since as of now, that's what you have seen, unless you tell me otherwise you have seen more) Something Wicca This Way Comes Review
I watched the first episode. So far I already can't stand Prue. Yet again another Shannen Doherty character that I don't seem to like. I'm already in love with Piper. Holly keeps winning me over with her characters. Phoebe is fun. JULIAN: I can see why Prue isn't your favorite, some fans felt exactly like you. I won't say more, but keep watching and I'm interested if your reactions to her change or not.
I'm glad you love Piper and Phoebe.Andy is cute so I hope he sticks around. JULIAN: I guess they did get inspired by Andy for their own cop. I won't say more, as it might spoil future episodes.
I'm a bit surprised they did away with Jeremy so quickly. Not what I expected. They did make Andy a bit shady since he knows about witches with knowledge which he admitted. JULIAN: Yeah he was the demon of the week here. I'm glad the pilot fooled you into thinking it was wasn't him. For a show that came out in 1998. The special effects look great and it's in HD. But I guess they remastered it and that's what I'm watching. JULIAN: They still hold up don't they.
The way they discover their powers was more mysterious. As the reboot has a whitelighter who was assigned and told them and they got the choice to accept their destiny or not. So the reboot had their mother die in the pilot and here it's their Grams. Their father is missing and they have an aunt and a cousin. Who I guess appear later on. JULIAN: Keep watching.
Andy is like Mel's girlfriend as a cop. I sure hope the show won't get rid of Andy so quickly like the reboot did. JULIAN: Again, keep watching.

Macy from the reboot was much more likeable as the older sister in the first episode. JULIAN: I'm happy to hear you like Piper as the middle sister more than Mel.
Looks like because you like Macy the most from the reboot, I hope it won't influence how you feel about Prue. How old are the sisters? Prue feels like she is about 29, Piper about 26 and Phoebe seems to be about 20 or 21. JULIAN: The show was sadly inconsistent in this regard. I hope it isn't a spoiler, to tell you they got it wrong a few times with ages and dates.
Prue is 27, Piper is 25 (so you were not far off) and Phoebe is 22 in the pilot. Is Charmed filmed in San Francisco? I hope so. I'd like to see the lovely city and learn the culture. JULIAN: I remember someone answered this in the shoutbox for you. So I'll move along.
Phoebe must have stayed up all night reading so much. I'm surprised we didn't see her reading. Love to see her geek out about all the stuff she learned. JULIAN: I'll tell you that we DO see her reading the book all night in the novel based on the pilot 'The Power of Three'. If you'd like to check it out, it won't spoil anything as its just based on the first episode. But I'm sure you want to keep watching, and not be distracted by the novel. Was the witch killed in the opening scene part of a coven who protects new witches. So dying to see how the original series explores witches and the different covens. JULIAN: Again, I can't say without spoiling. But I can when you finish S1.
Chef Moore was embarrassing. His French accent made me cringe. Omg! JULIAN: I'm so sorry, that offended you, especially being from France yourself. Since you already saw the second episode, don't worry, he never appears again. So glad Piper got the job. I used to work at a restaurant as my first job for four years before I got my dream job. So I'll have fun watching the Quake stories Piper might have. JULIAN: That's so cool, so I'm sure you'll love Piper working at Quake.
I hated Roger. And can't see what Prue saw in him. JULIAN: Me too.
I noticed the cat kept popping up throughout the episode in the background. I really loved the first vanquish. So well acted and shot. JULIAN: Me too.
One thing I like here than the reboot. The music score. It's amazing and so magical and fits the show. I got goosebumps when Phoebe found the book of shadows. JULIAN: It really is special isn't it.
The paper Prue is holding near the end. Is so a prop paper. I'm sure I've seen that exact paper used in other American productions. Am I wrong? JULIAN: You might be right. Good eye!
I loved Piper getting the last line 'this should be interesting'. Because I sure felt the same way with where this is going. JULIAN:
Prue closing the door was a nice way to end the episode. But I'm surprised that Piper and Phoebe didn't watch her do it. I'd love to see have seen their reactions. JULIAN: Don't I wish. Grade: A- Moments: 1. Phoebe finds the book of shadows (the music score, the mystery and how great the lighting was filmed) 2. Piper learns Jeremy is a warlock (because I sure was fooled like Piper) 3. 'Take That Nancy Drew' (I've read Nancy Drew books before) JULIAN: Nice grade and moments.
Can I ask is this grade higher or lower than the reboot's pilot?
