Hopefully I'm not starting a duplicate thread, but i wanted to start a thread about my LOVE of movies, especially movies that were made between the 1930's and 1970's. I religiously watch Turner Classic Movies and I would say 90 percent of my DVR is filled with movies from that channel. So i wanted to share my list of favorite movies (which constantly changes): 1) Psycho (1960 version) 2) Carrie (1976 version) 3) The Shining (1980) I really love these movies because they have interesting characters and don't rely on the jump scares that most modern day horror films use, instead they rely on atmosphere and character development, which seems to be neglected nowadays. Other than horror I like musicals: 1) Singing in the Rain 2) Sound of Music 3) The Wizard of Oz Science Fiction: 1) 2001 Space Odyssey 2) Star Wars 3) Matrix Miscellaneous list: 1) Treasure of the Sierra Madre 2) Some Like it Hot 3) Casablanca 4) Guess Who's Coming to Dinner 5) Vertigo 6) Pinocchio 7) Back to the Future I would recommend anyone who hasn't seen these movie to give them a chance, all of them provide a great viewing experience!

My top 10 favourite films I own and love are.
1. West Side Story.
2. Romeo And Juliet. (Baz Luhrmann Edition).
3. Grease 1 and 2.
4. Terminator 1 and 2.
5. Strictly Ballroom.
6. Moulin Rouge.
7. Titanic.
8. Any films from Studio Ghibli. There are 22 at the moment although some I've re-watched more than others then.
9. The Matrix Trilogy though the order I rate the films in is different from what they came in that being number 2 I like first then 1 second and 3rd last of course.
10. Pride And Prejudice 2005.
As you can see I like quite a lot of musicals 3 Baz Luhrmann one's and some action movies as well. I'm also a romantic woman so any love films with good couples get me also too.

You have awesome taste, Es! I like Harry Potter too! This might not be a popular opinion, but I like Prisoner of Azkaban the best. I also like the Half Blood Prince. The first two are cute, but I don't like Chris Columbus that much as a director. Star Wars is also amazing. I used to be a hardcore Star Wars nerd but eventually got over my obsession. My favorite is actually Empire Strikes Back and I also like Revenge of the Sith. I know people hate the Disney sequels but they are all entertaining, just very flawed movies. Karate Kid is wonderful movie. I was at a baseball game the other Day and Ralph Macchio was shown on the jumbtron and he still looked so young. I didn't like the sequels as much but the first one is one of my favorite coming of age movies. Love the original Back to the Future, but i have (sadly) never seen Superman. I should really give it a try one day. I have never seen any of the baseball movies you mentioned which is weird because i'm a big baseball fan. West Side Story is unbelievable. I will forever have the biggest crush on Natalie Wood. Sound of Music is brilliant. Titanic is a little meh for me. The movie is beautiful to look at but a little cheesy as well, but I can definitely understand why people love it. I have never seen Dirty Dancing or Chicago...saw the Fugitive once many years ago and can't remember my reaction anymore, I didn't see the Star Trek movies although i like the series from the 60's a lot, one of my favorite episodes is Spectre of the Gun... Thanks for sharing your picks Es, you are a super lady!

Having read your picks I think you and my Mom would have a LOT in common. She loves almost all the movies on your list. As I mentioned to Es, I LOVE West Side Story. The scenes between Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer are beautifully done and you can feel the amount of tenderness that they have for each other, which is definitely great acting because i read they actually did not like each other in real life! I like Grease as well but it;s not my favorite. I feel it has some really catchy songs but I didn't like the overall message of completely revamping your look to make someone appreciate you. I feel Sandy's character was fine the way she was and didn't need to conform to what Danny wanted... Outside of those the only other movie I have seen from your list is the Matrix, which i love as well. And i agree with you, number 2 is my favorite. It's a deeper movie than the first and it has a cliffhanger ending which i always love. The third one was disappointing to put it mildly, but I still find it entertaining in parts. P.S. I really want to watch Moulin Rouge one day. I have heard so many wonderful things about that movie and would love to see what all the fuss is about. Thanks for sharing Melinda! I had a blast reading your list.

Just curious if anyone saw la la Land? Since both Es and Melinda mentioned liking musicals. I saw it the other day for first time and I was truthfully a little disappointed. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are obviously beautiful people but their singing is subpar. And the only scene in the whole movie i really liked was the observatory scene. What a letdown.

Also, one other movie i would add to my favorite movie list is Mulholland Drive. It's from the weird mind of David Lynch lol. The whole movie is amazing and comes across like dream or a painting and keeps you transfixed the whole time. I would definitely recommend it to people who like movies where the interpretation of the film is not very straightforward.

I've not seen La, La Land or Mullholland Drive myself.
Another musical I really love is Hairspray for the overall theme and the songs featured in it with I love then.
Any song you see me nodding my head to you'll know I like of course.
I also forgot to add Pretty Woman as another favourite of mine for Richard Gere and Julia Robert's performance together and who can't resist the red dress Vivian wears to the Opera or the earrings and necklace as well?
