Once Upon A Time

For those who haven't seen the show it's based on fairytales giving them a twist and looking more in-depth at the lives/backgrounds of the characters of each. I found this to be what drew me in, to begin with, and then holding my attention until the end (though the last season, to me at least, seemed a totally new show while tying into the other seasons)

I think everyone played their part well being first in the real world VS the fairytale world and then the combo of the two seeing their old lives mixed with the new no one seeming to do this better than Robert Carlyle playing Rumple AKA Rumplestiltskin AKA Mr Gold.

In a way it reminded me a lot of Charmed the fight of good over evil and how everyone has both these sides within them with the added twist of the fairytales we all know and love than seeing how they ALL tied in together. Also loving how members of the cast brought in items from home to put into Mr Golds' shop that related/reflected stories they being more than just a prop.

I think the one major flaw was how in death and at times confusing the connections between 'family members' is but I find this also being a draw in some ways aswell.

I did watch the show when it aired but stopped at the start of S5, I don't remember exactly why. I think just other commitments and too many shows on my plate. I recently got the complete series Blu-Ray and started re-watching the seasons and will get to the ones I have not seen.

Going to answer the below with the mind-set of when I did watch it when it aired. I'll update some of the other questions as I go along.

What made you watch the show in the first place?

I love fantasy so that was already a hook for me. But I heard it was compared to Lost for its storytelling and flashback use and mixing fairtytales with modern day. I also heard about a similar show Grimm airing at the last time, but focused on the more Brothers Grimm scary fairytales. Funny enough, I watched the Grimm pilot but didn't continue, it wasn't until S2, that I went back and got hooked on that show and watched it through.

Who was your favorite actor/actress and why?

Lana Parrilla (Regina Mills)

What/who was your favorite storyline?

Haven't seen it all. But I loved S1's storyline.

What do think they could have improved?

Will save for when I finish the show.

Grade: A-

Moments
1. Opening scene Regina's Entrance at the wedding.
2. Snow: Where are we going ? /Regina: Somewhere Horrible. Absolutely horrible. A place where the only happy ending will be mine.

Regina started this show off as a boss. Queen for a reason. That's when I got hooked. I just love Lana how she played her. Biased that all my favorite moments have Regina in them.

I love the delivery of the line Somewhere Horrible.

I love StoryBrooke. The town is so cool visually. Even more so in HD. Never really took notice of it.

I likes seeing Emma and Regina meeting and the way they wrote it.

I honestly prefer Snow's short hair to her long Enchanted Forest hair. Lol Suites her better. Maybe that's just because her flashback hair is a wig. But I'd laugh if the short hair was the wig.

Lol forgot Charming ended up in a coma. I had zero recollection of that. That'll make me rewatching S1-S4 before get to the seasons I've never seen before great. I'm sure some moments will come back that I remember well.

Great pilot. Really enjoyed it.

1. Emma uses chainsaw to Regina's apple tree and confronts Regina. Regina: “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” / Emma: “Picking apples.”
2. Regina/Maleficent fight
3. Regina/Gold ending.

Great follow-up from pilot. Lots great backstop for Regina and the curse.

Every Regina/Emma moment was great.

I found the Regina/Gold scenes in the end the most interesting.

Moments
1. Regina saying that not having someone is the worst curse imaginable.
2. Snow/Charming meeting.
3. Emma/Snow bonding with Snow offering her a room.

First time not all of my moments include Regina. 🤣

Okay episode. I did love the bonding with Snow/Emma and seeing their story in flashbacks.

It was a nice story getting to see Snow and Charming meet.

Learning Kathryn Nolan is David's wife. No recollection that happened but the flashbacks with Abigail kinda made sense why we got them. I really forgot all about Abigail.

Storybrooke forest and Enchanted forest looks stunning in HD. I never noticed it before. Must have watched it originally in SD so didn't notice how pretty the trees look.

I watched the deleted scene from this episode on the disc called Responsibility" (Scene 25) basically Emma, Snow and Sheriff Graham watch the security tape that shows John Doe exiting into the woods. Emma wanted Snow to stay behind, but she disagrees and wants to go with them. Snow feels it is her fault that David woke up and ran off. She threatens to go off on her own. After hearing that, Emma agrees to let her come.

Cora story. I feel cheated how rushed it was. I was so excited she was in Storybrooke. Controversial take I always preferred Mr Gold, to be honest over Rumple.

Wizard of Oz (including the fairytale stories beyond the first book, which of course is the Wizard of Oz, nobody realizes that there was an entire series beyond just what was told in the first one)

Another Once fan here. I wasn't sure anybody was and my reviews would go unnoticed. LOL

That's a hot take. I've never run into anyone who doesn't like Rumple. I don't know how hated S4's arc is. I don't remember it too well. Since I've only seen the first four seasons and the first episode of S5. So my memory on it bad. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah I remember Cora's arc felt rushed. I can't wait to re-watch it again.
