I love Prue a lot but I'm not a huge fan of Doherty so who could they have recast if they decided to not kill Prue off?

I can't do recasting. Especially not a main character for three seasons.

Hmm maybe they would have still used Rose McGowan and the role of Paige NEVER would have come about.
I have to wonder how/if the whole show and how it progressed to it's ending would have been the same... I don't mean the finer details but the BIG PICTURE things. Would the final battle have been the same with the Jenkin sisters though of course if we start down that road we could also question what would have happened/changed if Brian Krause and/or Julian McMahon had stayed in for the long ran (and yes, I know it's something that's been discussed)
I find myself then wondering what if they didn't recast Prue at all but DID keep in the show via way something kind of like they did for Leo at the end. The finale battles reward in getting a sister back instead of a husband and whitelighter?
Anyway, to answer the original question hmm...
* Jennifer Love Hewitt (she may have been a little young) but from what I remember of Ghost Whisper I think she might have fit the role well.
* Sandra Bullock ( I'm not too sure about this pick but she does have a wide range playing both comedy and drama. She is also well known which was another draw that Doherty had so... just a thought)
* Krista Allen (again not sure on age) but other things I have seen her in kind of give me a Prue vibe. All the other actresses that a flicking through my head at the moment I believe would be too young or old. Of course, they could have gotten a complete unknown and just gotten someone who they thought LOOKED like Shannen.

I think thats interesting but isn't Rose younger than Holly and Alyssa? It always felt like that was why they brought in Paige as the baby sister rather than make her Prue.

Actually believe it or not Holly is the youngest of the four. Shannen was born in 1971, Alyssa in 1972, Rose in September 1973 and Holly in December 1973. But yeah, I can't see Rose as Prue at all period. No way.

Yeah I think if wanting to keep the original power of three, recasting someone else to play Prue would have been satisfactory for Prue fans. Maybe even the actress who was originally set to play Phoebe.

Maybe even the actress who was originally set to play Phoebe. I think it would for some, but others might still miss Shannen, and not get used to her. If they did recast Prue, I wonder if they'd just recast and pretend nothing has changed or find creative ways to explain why Prue doesn't look like Shannen no more. Maybe they'd adapt the comics arc where Prue goes into the body of another witch. Do something like in S8, where Prue has to fake her death and glamour to look like someone else. A soap opera like way, Prue is burnt in a fire. Maybe she got it burnt by protecting her sisters or even trying to save Phoebe in the underworld, and is burnt to the point she has to have her face changed. You bringing up Lori the original Phoebe, makes me think about if Lori did stick around but her Phoebe had excited the show and Alyssa is brought in as the new sister Paige.

I like that idea but I was thinking of Lori playing Prue and being in s4. As for how they'd explain it - yeah it'd be a tough one but maybe something like she barely survived and her surviving had side effects. It'd be interesting for sure.

A way to explain it could be that Prue DID die but she was reborn into the body of another witch (hence the looking different), however, she had flashbacks or something along those lines to her sisters and thus seeking out answers she rejoins them and the charmed ones are back together. If she was reborn it could also mean that the ages don't have to matter. She could come on as the youngest in age/looks but as her memories come back she'd be the old Prue.

That would be a good way and Rose could be the new body because she has amazing chemistry with Holly and Alyssa so it'd be perfect.
