Sharing this from my post on the Charmed Subreddit!
Are we to assume that any generation before The Charmed Ones never had three sisters, nor had all three of Melinda's powers?
The three cousins had fire, ice, and freezing.
Melinda's daughter, Prudence, was an only child who may have had Telekinesis if I'm not mistaken- but I think in a Charmed Novel, she possessed both Telekinesis & Premonitions.
Penny was either an only child, or had a brother that wasn't a witch- but she had Telekinesis.
Patty was an only child who had freezing.
Prue and Piper had telekinesis and freezing, respectively, and before Phoebe was born, the two were presumed to be Patty's only children.
Let me know what your theories and thoughts are!

It seems to be that there were never three sisters before Prue, Piper, and Phoebe in their line, at least after Melinda Warren. Nothing about the prophecy specified those three sisters in particular, so I assume that if there had been three sisters before them, they would have been the Charmed Ones.
I don't think any witch in the family, after Melinda, had all three of the Charmed Ones' powers. They may have been powerful, but only had one or two powers at the most.

I think that's what the show wanted use to think, but I prefer thinking that there were other sets, but they didn't want to become Charmed. That's what I use in my Dream Charmed. I even like the idea of Melinda having three daughters with each of them having one of her powers, but after what happened to their mother, they decide against becoming Charmed.
I also prefer thinking of the three cousins as three sisters - easier for figuring out how they're related to the Halliwells, where P Russell and P Bowen were actually great-great-aunts and not third cousin twice removed or something like that...
