I’m rewatching S4 and I’m a little confused with Cole.
So, is it Cole? Or is he the Source that they vanquished?
Because I’m unsure whether the ‘essence’ of the source is a spirit or simply a power that corrupts but Source Cole mentioned that Cole’s voice used to scream in his head but now it’s a whisper and that his love for Phoebe is stopping him from killing Phoebe. But, then Source Cole was going to allow the Wizard to take the power from him but wouldn’t that mean he would be taking the Source? So why would the Source agree to that? So…. I’m just confused and Why did Phoebe save him? If that would have returned Cole then they could have used the spell to vanquish the Source once he was in the Wizard….
But then also: if this is the case then why were the Charmed ones so angry at Cole in S5? If it wasn’t him the whole time.
Sorry if this is confusing for I am also confused lol

The sisters got it wrong. Cole was possessed, although it's sometimes unclear to what extent, at least for me. They should have realized that he had been taken over against his will, but I think it was just easier to blame him considering his past as a demon fit so well with the idea that he'd betray them.
While I do think that there were times when Cole liked the idea of being so powerful, Phoebe was the only one who truly chose to be evil. I really don't like how she doesn't face any repercussions from this, while Cole gets all the blame.
As far as who or what the Source is, there was a mention at some point of previous Sources, so it seems to be more of an essence or collection of powers more than an individual being. It seems kind of like a title that's passed around, and when someone gets the official title, they also get the powers.

Then that would probably explain why the seer said to Phoebe it was never hers or Cole's to begin with and Phoebe stating that the baby didn't feel like hers to Piper and Paige when the seer had it transfer to her womb.
