And what about his niece?
I did think that Dan's niece, Jenny had a parent that was a witch. Perhaps Dan's brother's wife?
That would then be a great storyline to write in if Piper and Dan stayed together but then Leo would definitely have to leave.
I liked Dan at some points. Esp with the baby in Reckless Abandon.

Probably, but when the fans didn't care for Jenny, they got rid of her. And the fizzle of Dan... So maybe they were wanting more with Dan and Jenny but the audience was not into it, so the scrapped it/them.

Had Leo stayed in S1 where he belonged, I think Dan would've become Piper's husband and she'd be much happier to have a semi-normal life.
Ditto for Jenny. Unfortunately, Charmed did a horrible job with teenagers.

Yes, I’m pretty sure Constance M. Burge would’ve focused on Dan and the girls having human love interests for the most part, but producers or Brad Kern wanted the show to have superpowered babies so they kept the whitelighters and hybrids.

I do remember hearing Jenny was meant to have a bigger part, but they quickly wrote her out, when fans didn't like her. But the show did a horrible job, with teenagers sadly.
Had Dan and Jenny proved to be more successful, I do think they could've had a bigger part. Also, If Leo had stayed gone after S1. Then I'd imagine Dan wouldn't have been written out at all after one season.
Kern didn't seem at all interested in the non-human characters. Seeing as by S3, the co-stars were always magical with Darryl's role being so underused. To the point, Darryl was barely around and felt like a co-star. He always felt like a recurring character who shows up every so often, with not much screentime.

I think Dan was supposed to be for Phoebe and for Jenny to be part of Phoebe's development, looking after someone younger. Piper would then still have Leo coming and going. I think it all started to change in the episode when Dan does building code work stuff with Piper and that episode ends with Phoebe and Prue teasing Piper about Dan. Something changed at the beginning of Season 2 which made them give Dan to Piper which then made Jenny more redundant as Phoebe is the one who had the connection to Jenny in 2x01

I'm not a huge fan of Dan, but I like the idea of a non-magical boyfriend. And I agree that he and Phoebe had more chemistry. I'd like to put this story off a bit more than they did in the show, until at least season 3, but it would have been fun for Phoebe and Dan to begin dating. And since Dan is more mature and stable, unlike other boyfriends Phoebe's had in the past, it would help her to transition more into a responsible adult. This would be especially true if she became like a big sister/aunt to Jenny and the experience would give Phoebe a new outlook on being around kids.

I really wished we got at least one co-star who was a non-magical boyfriend in the show long term for more than one season. It will ground the show more, to have that non-magical point of view. It's what Andy could have provided had he not been killed off after S1. I love the idea of a non-magical co-star who grew up with the sisters who wasn't a love interest to any of them. An older brother or sisterly figure to them as well. That would have been great for Phoebe's character to have a nice non-magical mature and stable man in her life. But, like you, I wouldn't have wanted that too soon. Even though, I'd always have been happier if Phoebe never had a long term love interest.

For me there was such an injustice having Jenny appear in the opening credits. It just did not make sense... I understand this is based on contract negotiations but... They didn't even ever do a cut of the credits that had Grams in them. It would have been nice for the final episode for them to have made a credits with Grams, Patty, Victor etc.
That being said I wasn't really a Dan fan. He could have been a lot better. I mostly just think of him trying to "out" Leo - sadly I think this was his purpose, to cause tension and drama between Piper and Leo. It was always very clear to me Piper would "choose" Leo over Dan so his on screen time seemed gratuitous.

Why not allow Phoebe to have a fling with Dan until she realises that she wants to focus on her life as a witch and finish school before getting into a serious relationship?

I actually agree with you! It would be nice to have gotten to know Dan outside the love triangle. Perhaps this was a wasted opportuntiy by the show!

I actually agree with you! It would be nice to have gotten to know Dan outside the love triangle. Perhaps this was a wasted opportuntiy by the show! Very much was! I wished that Dan was the father of Jenny, it would have shown Phoebe that even though she is good with children, maybe she isn't ready to have them of her own. Something like: Dan: So you are breaking up with me? Phoebe: I am so sorry Dan, it's not you, it's me, cliche I know, but, I just need to focus on schooling and rebuilding the relationship I have with my sisters. I don't think I am ready or mature enough to be a step-mother to your beautiful daughter, you need to find someone who is willing to have all these amazing things you are destined to have and I don't believe that I am the person for you, however I know someone somewhere is ready for a wonderful man to step into her life.

I've always wondered that if Leo stayed in S1 where he belonged (and where he originally was supposed to stay if Holly hadn't talked the higher ups into bringing Leo back after Ted (Andy) decided to leave), if they still would've had the triangle but would it have been between Andy (now their whitelighter), Prue and Dan and how *that* would've worked out.
I have a hunch I would've enjoyed THAT triangle as much I enjoyed the Leo-Piper-Dan one - not much.
Somehow Phoebe matched with Dan just doesn't make much sense to me.

I agree with you Es - they just didn't ever seem like a good match to me. Plus I feel like Dan wouldn't have been able to truly accept the sisters as witches. A lot of the pairings didn't make sense in the run of the show.. Here are the ones I think that worked - not saying I liked them, but at least the actors had chemistry... Prue/Andy Prue/Bane Piper/Mark Piper/Leo Phoebe/S2 Cupid (forget his name, apologies!) Phoebe/Cole Phoebe/Drake Phoebe/Kyra (I know they were never a couple or dating but Alyssa and Charisma had excellent chemistry between them) Paige/Glen Paige/Henry Which leaves the bad ones... I'm probably forgetting some but. Prue/Jack (the WORST) Piper/Dan Piper/The "Fireman" (His name was Greg right?) Phoebe/Leslie Phoebe/Jason Phoebe/Coop Phoebe/Dex Paige/Kyle Paige/Richard

Phoebe/Leslie Phoebe/Jason Phoebe/Coop Phoebe/Dex Paige/Kyle Paige/Richard I agree with you on the most part. But if you were going strictly by chemistry, I'd have to go with: Prue/Bane Prue/Micah Piper/Mark Piper/Greg the Fireman Phoebe/S2 Cupid Phoebe/Drake Phoebe/Kyra (I know they were never a couple or dating but Alyssa and Charisma had excellent chemistry between them) Paige/Kyle (I hated the guy, but, man, did they have chemistry!) Paige/Henry Which leaves rest as either the bad ones or matched with the wrong sister... For both Andy & Prue and Piper & Leo, I never saw much chemistry, much as I loved both couples (well, I loved Piper & Leo until Piper found out he was an angel) their chemistry felt more like brother/sister than lovers.

But then we didn't ever see him again. It was a cool plot point either way though!

I read somewhere that Shannen didn't think that Prue should have an S3 significant other because both Piper & Leo's and Phoebe & Cole's relationships were so strong. I wonder if she would've kept her mouth shut if she knew that would be her last season...

I wonder if she would've kept her mouth shut if she knew that would be her last season... I actually did not know that! Hmm... Maybe this is the reason S3 Prue was my favorite. I felt like she really came into her super witch persona at this time. This is making sense though... Prue felt more confident in her own skin as a witch, sister and woman. She didn't need a man and she didn't need to be so over bearing - she was just confident and comfortable in her skin. That being said, just because Prue didn't need a relationship didn't mean she couldn't have one. It would have been cool to see her more confident and truly independent in a relationship, especially if she found a guy who was comfortable with her strength and power - someone like Henry who accepted Paige as a witch and woman.
