Oh, yes! I read somewhere that Shannen didn't think that Prue should have an S3 significant other because both Piper & Leo's and Phoebe & Cole's relationships were so strong. I wonder if she would've kept her mouth shut if she knew that would be her last season... I actually did not know that! Hmm... Maybe this is the reason S3 Prue was my favorite. I felt like she really came into her super witch persona at this time. This is making sense though... Prue felt more confident in her own skin as a witch, sister and woman. She didn't need a man and she didn't need to be so over bearing - she was just confident and comfortable in her skin. That being said, just because Prue didn't need a relationship didn't mean she couldn't have one. It would have been cool to see her more confident and truly independent in a relationship, especially if she found a guy who was comfortable with her strength and power - someone like Henry who accepted Paige as a witch and woman. LOL, that's funny because her turning into S3 Superwitch is why First Half S1 Prue and Last Half S3 Prue are my LEAST-favorite Prue. I hate her becoming the Power of One the way Piper did in S4-8. I'm positive that with Kern in charge that's exactly what would've happened to Prue (Kern's idea of the Oldest...) had she not died, one of many reasons why I'm glad she did. Personally I hate anything that makes any Charmed One more powerful than the other, since my favorite "character" is the Power of Three, the reason why I hated SuperPrue and why I hated Piper's explosion power. But that's the fun of being fans - different fans like different things for different reason. And I'll bet more fans would agree with you than with me - which has just about always been the case and, being older than most fans, doesn't bother me at all.

I don't disagree with you on the Power of One complex - it literally goes against the whole premise of the show to make one singular person so powerful that they don't need the other two. HOWEVER - I wish there could have been a way to make Prue into the super witch bad ass without detracting from the Power of Three. I wish the sisters powers had of grown collectively instead of certain sisters having these huge jumps in offensive powers. I wish they had of mapped the power growth better from the beginning.. I am sure Constance M Burge had this planned until Kern killed it. Maybe it would have been better for the sisters powers to grow to together - like how they got their powers together under the chandelier. What do I know though!! (haha).

I think Dan was intended to be there longer-term. I also heard that they were planning on keeping Jenny for awhile, but she wasn't popular with fans, so her character got the axe. I was ambivalent about Jenny. I would've liked to see Dan hang around longer.

Perhaps the directors that season did not know how to direct a young actor. Jenny was just a bit annoying - it would have been cool if Jenny's mother had been a witch and she had that connection with the sisters. I think Paige would have really bonded with Jenny if she had been around at that time. Would have been cool to see that!

She was just one of those characters that didn't do a whole lot for me, but I didn't hate her or anything. I think it could have been interesting to see Jenny and Paige bonding.

Do you guys remember the 2x14 (if I'm not mistaken) where Phoebe went into her previous-life body? Dan was there as a husband in Piper's previous life, meanwhile, Leo's previous life was just a former lover. It means to me that at this very point they were still thinking to keep Dan as Piper's main love interest. Also, that was the first episode where Brian Krause had his own opening credit moment, even in 2x13 he was just in "Starring" mode.

I definitely think they were open to keeping Dan long term depending on audience reaction. They got rid of Jennie REAL fast so they were definitely paying attention to what worked and what didnt.
To be honest....Im currently re-watching S2 again and...maybe because I am WAY older than I was back in the day and single...but I actually really like Dan and he deserved better.

That's one of the reasons I admire the way shows are written and mapped out today. Almost entire seasons are planned out, with character development, power growths (if it's a fantasy show), and relationships.
They should've kept Jenny on, imo. Writing her off was just as bad as introducing her in the first place. As soon as they would've introduced her witch storyline (preferably during The Devil's Music episode, have Jenny use her magic to save everyone just before the sister's get swallowed by the demon or something) fans would've probably loved her more and the idea of a serial overarching storyline.
I agree with Piper and Dan, or at least just Dan. He was an amazingly written character, portrayed beautifully by the actor who played him, and was just an overall loveable character; there wasn't one thing to hate about him, except the fact that he truly didn't want a magical life with Piper (at least at first.. maybe he would've warmed up to it). I agree that he deserved better. I felt bad when Piper kissed Leo, I felt bad when she played Dan on the phone, and I felt bad that he KNEW she was going to break up with him, and told her not to, but to just follow her heart. Absolutely love my man Dan.
When Phoebe said "I saw him first" that should've been the done deal.

I think getting rid of Jenny was one of the best decisions the show ever made. We didn't need Sabrina the teenage witch in Charmed, the sisters were more than enough. Now if she was just recurring every now and then, that would've been fine but I certainly didnt need her taking up plot.

I wished they just let Piper date Dan and kept Leo gone after Love Hurts longer. It would've been better if Leo returned to the story in the back half of S2.
Dan discovered the secret under the worst circumstances when he turned old because of a wish backfiring on Piper. I don't blame Dan for not accepting it, given the circumstances she told him. Had she told him much sooner, maybe he's reacted differently. Maybe he'd handle it better if given the time to warm up to the idea. We'll never know.
But when it comes to the Halliwells. I found all of them apart from Paige were pretty bad when it came to telling their non-magical boyfriends the secret. They either told them at the worst possible time or left it far too late. Phoebe was dating Jason for so long. She even moved with him overseas, but still continued to not tell him shes a witch. That's insane to me! They sure could've handled it better. Paige went about it the best way when it came to Henry.

Now if she was just recurring every now and then, that would've been fine but I certainly didnt need her taking up plot. I can agree to an extent. Keeping Jenny could've been potentially great or bad. Sure, she could've taken up the plot, but then at the same time- the way I see it is, teaching Jenny would've allowed the sister's to hone their craft faster and retain ample amounts of knowledge, maybe even given them a stronger sense of responsibility. I think shoving out some of the love triangle drama would've cleared up some plot-space. Absolutely hate love-triangles; somebody always gets hurt! Connie had good ideas, and I don't think she would've let the plot drown in Jenny the Teenage Witch plots lol, who knows though.
On the other-hand, the show was, and always should've been about the sister's. Family first, kept the show grounded, and then add in the wicca and super-powers. I wish Charmed would've found their foundation sooner, but we got some great episodes out of their trial-and-errors.
