In S1-3.
- Piper was afraid to enter Church.
- Brendan got rid himself of his demonic half side by becoming priest. Accepting God and Jesus. And refusing and overcoming evil.
- Whitelighters are referred as Angels.
- We had Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
- The source in S3 finale was said to have come to the underworld. Which means he does not reside there.
- The source also had angelic wings. Implying that he was a fallen angel. And since he leads all the demons. That he was THE fallen angel. Lucifer, Satan, Devil.
Is this just me? Or was the show meant to have Biblical demons, angels and demons? And that it was not simple good vs evil. But Biblical Good vs Evil? I know we had for an example Hecate. Who in real life was a goddess in ancient Greek religion and mythology. And witches that are portrayed as force for good.
In Supernatural for an example. They did introduce mythological beings from pagan religions. So was Charmed also supposed to have Christianity as the main theme of good vs evil? With some creative freedom from the writers of course.
I am of course only talking about Season 1 to 3. Since from season 4 this was all dropped. Tho we did have a small scene at the start of S4 where the Nun explains that Sam and Patty came in the form of light like angels.

I do think that was what they intended to do but likely changed it at some point. Especially The Source being the shows version of Satan. With AHBL stating he came to the Underworld and his appearance being devil like.
But the shift changed after S1 when it came to Reglion in terms of Christianity. Although we saw a Church in Charmed Again. Wicca was a bit less central with the show being a bit more fantasy based with magic and more exploring Wicca lore like in S1.
These are questions I'd love the Charmed podcast to answer. That's if they get more producers and writers on and less actors. I'd love more insights into the creative process of the seasons and plotlines.

I chose "other" because I felt like S2-S3 don't really fit that bill. S1, most definitely. As Kern's whitelighter mess was such a copycat version of TBAA, and all the church references, throughout S1 definitely felt like a Christian value foundation.

I think religion in the show was it's own unique thing. It's sortof a blend of Wicca and Christianity.
I am not sure the religious background of folks on this site but the bible does mention witchcraft fairly a lot. It is clear from the bible that "witches" did exist - these "witches" were mostly talked about in terms of fortune telling, seeing omens, seeing the future etc. In my opinion it is very clear that Christians (at least at one point) did believe there were people with these abilities. Of course in the bible this is considered "evil" as the word of God is supposed to reign supreme and not any other type of "power".
If you are wondering how I know all of this - I was raised catholic. I also took a class in university called "Witchcraft in Early Modern Europe" in which we used the bible a LOT. It was definitely an interesting class (haha).

The show did have A Touched By An Angel and 7th Heaven (spelling) vibe. Also the triquetra is a symbol for the the son, the father and the holy spirit i think?
I think it was supposed to be more christian so play it safe with the network.

I've always thought that the Christian part of Charmed was mandated by The WB because they were afraid it would turn viewers away from Christianity. I also thought that's why they had being a witch with powers was hereditary - if your family weren't witches, you couldn't be one.
I know that I was raised Catholic and nothing abut Charmed made me think about turning my back on Christianity. After all, I never thought that a person could be a witch with powers - it was just fantasy.

I had a lot of friends as kids who's parents wouldn't let them watch the show because they were "witches" - this is hilarious because they likely let their kids watch shows like 90210 and Degrassi. Charmed was a LOT more wholesome than either of these shows. Isn't there also a rumor that the reason Lori Rom left was because of the witchcraft in the show?
