Which Source did you prefer?

The Source from S3 hands down. That's how I imagined the source of all evil and the leader of all demons to look like. Proving to be a real threat.
The half-faced wimpy demon we got in Charmed and Dangerous looked so ridiculous. Everything about him hardly made me believe that was the ruler of the underworld. He looked like any average lower-level demon. I couldn't take his voice either, hardly as intimidating compared to the earlier version of the Source.
Although I personally don't think we ever needed to see his face. Less is more scarier. I liked when he possessed his victims like in early S4. Now that's how you scare the Charmed Ones and the audience. I never needed to ever see his face. It's more scarier that way.
I really agree with so many film and television creators or wherever I read somewhere, that not showing much to your audience is how you keep them more scared and keep the suspense and threat level up. Once the mask comes off, it loses its impact. That's how I felt about the Source once we saw his face. I never wanted to see it.

I still think the real answer is neither - it should've been Zankou.
But between the two, definitely the one that looked like a real devil. I wonder if that's why they changed it - if The WB and the fundamental Christians yipped too much - or because he was played by Michael who also played Shax so it would be too hard for him to play both.
I didn't find Half-Face visually scary at all - I just thought he looked like an actor with a bad makeup job - no way he looked like he was indeed half-faced. If Cole hadn't mentioned it, no way I would've thought it.

I'm the same with @west and Es. The guy from the season 3 finale was more scary and intimidating than Mr. Creepy half face in season 4 obviously.
I also loved how the Source first possessed people because it really used his power then and that he could strike anytime and anywhere being inside anyone which freaked fans out more I'm sure naturally.
In terms of never actually seeing him, I wouldn't have minded that myself because as @west said that makes villains more impactful on people who they like then.

I honestly preferred The Seer as the Source - even though it was short lived.

It really would've. You said the Source of all Evil couldn't be female. It would've been a fun story-arc.
It's sucks we only got her as the true big bad for a single episode. Such a waste. It's too bad they didn't let her continue on to be the villain in S5. They could've ended S4 with Cole's vanquish and let him stay dead and never come back, anthen let The Seer play big bad in S5. Although I like her being the Source through Four seasons more.

Oh definitely, The Source being a female would have completely been a twist, especially for me, if she was the Hooded Source, who is able to change her voice, that would have been so great. I completely agree.

The Seer being the Source should have been a season long arc. I think she should've been the Source through FOUR seasons - with the series only going four seasons! I agree with everyone here. The thing that would have made the Seer the best Source is that she was actually very smart. The original source and Cole as the source were not the smartest and they let the sisters interfere with their plans quite easily. The Seer's plan to "steal" the evil fetus ALMOST worked. One thing about this storyline I disliked was how the Seer couldn't contain the powers of the fetus - but Phoebe could. I think the Seer was just as powerful, or more powerful than Phoebe. She was thousands of years old and had in my opinion the strongest "seeing" power of any other being - I think she would have foresaw or sensed what was coming and could have created an alternative plan. I'm not sure why they only had the Seer on for one season - she seems to be pretty universally loved by the fans. They could have easily altered the story to make her the new Source the sisters had to vanquish in S4 instead of Cole as the source. I am a Cole fan but I didn't ever take him seriously as the source. Cole only really felt like a demon in season 3 when he was Balthazar. The Seer was one of the only demons who was truly playing a "long game". I was just happy we got to see her again in "Centennial Charmed" - she was the best part of this episode!

Could it be that Debbie Morgan who played the Seer was only available for a certain amount of time due to other scheduling issues perhaps if she was going to be doing something else then hence why her character wasn't around in season 5 except the episode Centennial Charmed when she was available again then?

I actually like how Phoebe could contain the fetus, or at least could better than the Seer. The Seer definitely was more powerful, but it made it seem like sometimes more power doesn't mean more strength. They definitely could have skipped Cole being the Source altogether. He was barely the Source long enough to matter, and he never seemed to have a good grasp on it. The Seer was too smart and interesting to only be the Source for a few minutes.
