I actually posted this on Reddit 10 months ago and yet to post it here. Also, this is in response to the posts made in the S2E12 "Awakened" re-watch thread. To add, in S6E8 "Sword & the City", both Phoebe & Paige "die", but Paige calls for Leo, in ghost form, and they're "healed back to life". This is the same episode where Paige TK's the sword in the stone, up to the attic without actually verbalizing it (and it's the only episode, too), but I digress.
(Disregarding my hatred for the destroying of their love-life later on) I loved Leo healing Piper, because in that moment, it was the most forbidden thing he could do as a whitelighter who’s in-love with a witch he used to be a guardian of. I know that later on, we never even see him healing the dead, and the rules change, but I still admire how powerful this scene was.
While it's often narrated that whitelighters "can't heal" the dead, there's a few episodes that don't support this.
The first one being S1E21 "Love Hurts", as it's insinuated that Leo "died", but Piper still managed to "heal" him back to life.
The next one being S2E12 "Awakened", when Leo practically "healed" Piper back to life. Afterall, by scientific standards she WAS dead.
Finally, S6E15 "I Dream of Phoebe" comes along, and Leo flat out "heals" a "dead" Piper. As Jeannie wished for the Charmed Ones to be "dead" so "dead" they were. But, Leo "healed" a "dead" Piper (granted unconsciously), and yes, he's technically an Elder and NOT a whitelighter, even as an Elder, Leo continues to preach how he "can't heal" the dead in S7E7 "Someone to Witch Over Me", even though he's still an Elder (at least, what he believes), at this point, but I digress.
I think Whitelighters AND Elders CAN "heal" the dead, they're just "not supposed to". 'Cause it's messing with fate/destiny/the grand design.
