I was under the impression that the earlier seasons seemed to focus more on the sisterhood than the later seasons where they seemed to shift focus more on the family than sisterhood.

That's the general consensus, and why S1-S2 is beloved the most, around here. That being said, I didn't mind the family dynamic.
I still wish "sisterhood" was displayed more, in the show but NOT just between the Halliwells. It would've been cool to have Aviva return, as a full time witch, alongside the Charmed Ones and build that "sisterhood" she always wanted.
Along with joining forces with Stevie, Ava, Enola, etc. The closest we got was Billie, and it was not done well.
I've always love the idea of a show displaying women uniting together. Something Pretty Little Liars did that Charmed did not. I still find Charmed to be the better show, though.

I agree that the latter seasons did heavily focus on family more than Piper, Paige, and Phoebe as sisters which is why some fans don't appreciate those years as much and of course when innocents started featuring less in episodes and the people in danger were either the boys for eg or fairytale creatures featured that put certain folks of the show also.

I was under the impression that the earlier seasons seemed to focus more on the sisterhood than the later seasons where they seemed to shift focus more on the family than sisterhood. I know you don't mean it this way, but this is part of the issue. Sisters are family. In this aspect there were two problems with the later years: one, they dropped most aspects of sisterhood, and two, everyone adopted the idea that family means marriage and children for everyone. There's nothing wrong with marriage and children if that's what the characters want. But it's a very tired idea in media that growing up and maturing seems to equal letting go of friendships and relationships other than with a significant other and your children. Some of the most mature and wise people I know don't live that way, and it's refreshing to see. But in answer to your question, yes, they did focus more on partners and children in the later years. I missed the sisterhood focus as time went on.

Enola was the Shaman girl in the Sleepy Hollow episode, right? I would've liked for the sisters to join forces with her, Ava, and Stevie, too. I feel like the sisters would've learned so much from them. And I do like the idea of a show uniting women together.

Charmed showed great Sisterhood but you gotta admit it lacked female empowerment in terms if displaying relationships the sisters outside with other female characters outside of themselves. Yes I know we had some but it wasn't a major part. The sisters needed female friends.

I think it inevitably had to, if it was going to carry on past Season 4.
In the beginning it was about how becoming witches bought the sisters closer together. Obviously things do not stay the same and the show then goes beyond exploring the dynamics of the sisters - to their individual development as women.
Totally natural. There is a concept of a Jump The Shark moment being 'death by baby' - when eventually 2 people get together, get married, have the wedding, then have the baby/babies - it then changes the dynamic of the show.
Finishing the series with the birth/conception of a child would have been a nice end point that ensures the witch-line continued.
What was interesting in the beginning was that the sisters literally only had each other. Grams and Patty were dead. Victor wasn't in the picture - they only had each other. Barely any love interests - and this was the B plot.
Not saying that it had to remain this way - because it was enjoyable to watch Piper being a mom etc, Paige want her own identity. I think Charmed finished what it was exploring by the end of Season 4.
I agree that there could have been a further development of the sisters making more friendships with other women - another form of sisterhood. I think this was only really done well with Elise. Returning of Aviva or Ava and furthering Phoebe's friendship with Kyra - The Seer and also executing Billie's storyline better would have been great.

Sadly it's what happens when a show goes on too long. They have to add those elements to keep it going and proving why sometimes it's best for a show to end on a high than just continuing to last year after year.

For Charmed, I think it was fine due to it being episodic. But, for something like Pretty Little Liars needs a cut-off point, as it's too much an overarching story and not really contained within an episode.
