S5 vs. S7

I have always found it difficult to judge which 1 I liked more. 

I like them both (behind Season 1, 2, 3 and 4). 

I think they have some great individual stand alone episodes.

Season 5 has a better start than Season 7 which has a better ending. 

Cole and Phoebe's characters decline in 5 and slightly redeem themselves in 7. 

Wyatt and the pregnancy are at the forefront in 5, whereas Zankou and the Avatars are in 7. 


Overall though - I think I would pick Slightly 5

My natural reaction was to select "S7" but to be fair to S5, I think I'll do my spreadsheets. At this point, BOTH seasons like to fail and/or were influenced/re-written in some way our characters using their powers, for some reason. Episodes where ALL three sisters powers/abilities were ATTEMPTING to be used!

Overall, S5 does a better job with the power balance (including original Warren powers), HOWEVER S7 does a better job with the story. With that being said, I'mma choose "S7 just slightly more than S5" because I don't think S5's story arcs were the best compared to S7. S5 is a GREAT example of just because it balances the powers out a bit more than the rest of the S5-S8 bracket, doesn't mean its stories are all that impressive. As much as it pains me to see S7 not do too well regarding power balance, I'm still picking it due to better storylines.

I voted S7 over S5. Although it was tough to consider. I like S7's storyline more. But the first half of S5 with the Cole arc got me to hit the S7 choice button more easily, when that came into my mind.

In General LIke Season 7 characters more like Kyra and Kyle.

Story Arc - tie. Season 7 was interesting but Avatars poorly executed but fairytales are half-well done too. 

Hmmmm I think I would have to give it to Season 5 just because of episodes like The Eyes That Have It, Sense and Sensibility. Even though I don't like Coles character degradation I still enjoy watching Julian McMahan and think that storyline is slightly better executed although more drawn out than the Avatar one. 

Big Bads - Zankou/Avatars vs. Crazy Cole and I guess the Titancs - probably goes to Season 7. 

I feel like the actresses are playing themselves more than their characters in Season 5, plus I do like Wyatts Birth and I do like the 100th episode more than the 150th. 

So Season 5 wins out fractionally!

BUT I will say Styx Feet Under is when I started liking the series again. I concur with someone else who said you could go from Witch Way Now to Styx Feet Under and say "2 years later" and it would flow continuously.

Changing my mind to S5 slightly more than S7.

I revised my S5-S8 list to see how each season added up the even-ness of "Protect/Save the Innocent(s)", "All Three Sisters Using Their Abilities/Powers (Original/Warren and/or Secondary)" & "Original/Warren Powers Only". Each season's position varies depending on what category you're looking for, and I averaged them all out to read: S5 > S7 > S6 > S8.

Despite constantly changing my mind, right now I think S5 slightly over S7, as much as I don't want to admit it. S7 fails a lot of stat checks, even though I think S7's story is a bit better than S5. I appreciate S5 taking the initiative in including those stat checks than S7 did.

Back in July you already said S5 slightly more than S7 so not a big change. Unless S7 won out in the period between July and October. I'm only teasing.

S7 did win out S5, briefly, but I ended up going back to S5. It's just that, sometimes IDC about the stats, you know? I really do think S7's story is a bit stronger than S5, I really do. I (also) enjoy more S7 episodes than S5 episodes. But, if I'm looking at this from purely looking at stats, S5 hits more check marks than S7 which is really sad & unfortunate.

I voted for S5 Just Slightly more than S7. I'm not really a fan of either season but season 5 had standalone episodes that felt like the Charmed I used to like such as The Eyes Have It, Sympathy for the Demon, A Witch in Time, Sense and Sense Ability. I feel that season 7 is a little bit overrated, it's better than 6 and 8, but still didn't really live up to its potential (like the anticlimactic ending to the Avatar plot) and it's mostly elevated by great performances by the guest stars (Kerr Smith, Charisma Carpenter, Billy Zane and Oded Fehr).
