I heard so much about the Nexus on Charmed but I never really understood what it actually was. Was it a collection of power that collects over time or was it an entity and are there more Nexus (Nexi?) around?
And what are the side effects of the Nexus being destroyed at the end of Season Seven. I wish the writers would have touched upon that.

If you're a Buffy fan, you can sort of think of the Nexus as the Hellmouth (except the Nexus can be either good or evil). I think the Nexus is merely just an area of immense powers. I would presume a lot of major cities would have one because the Nexus was formed within a pentagram of the Bay area of San Francisco.

For anyone new to the Charmed Cafe or revisiting us after time spent away, let me indicate that we (Xenith, whitelightertony and others including vandergraafk) had a lengthy, perhaps exhaustive discussion of the NEXUS in several threads. On my forum site: charmedverse.proboards74.com I have placed all of the relevant posts with the commentary generated from my own forum. Check these out if you wish to see how much progress or lack thereor we made with respect to the NEXUS in terms of Charmedverse. Now, there might be some utility in examining this from an outside perspective - namely, from Buffyverse. I will confess, however, that a) I'm not a fan of Buffy and b) its use of the NEXUS was NOT one of the topics exhaustively examined in the Physics of the Buffyverse, an excellent book that I recommend everyone read!

Sounds like you have been watching a little Star Trek Generations too foxfire. The energyband named Nexus is about the same thing, your dreams come true inside Nexus, good or evil.

Actually no. Haha. I don't watch Star Trek. Although, I find the suggestion that there are "points" in which hold significant amount of power that are neutral but can be dipped to create either good or evil power.
I once tried to do the five points of the pentagram for Manhattan (I had a map I got from Google) but it didn't quite work. I kind of wanted Central Park to be the center of it but I don't know. If anyone would like to tell me what the five points of Manhattan would be, be my guest. Since I'm not from NYC, I can't really say.
The suggestion of "power points" is brought up within another one of my favourite television shows, Sailor Moon. In season (series R) 2 of Sailor Moon, an evil clan of aliens come from the future to prevent the Utopia of Crystal Tokyo. The Four Sisters (the villains of that time) had to turn "Crystal Points" which would become points of good in the future, into corrupted evil ones. On top of that, I think it's fair to say that the reason why so many evils attack Tokyo is the fact that there is something attracting them there. Just like with the Nexus of San Francisco and the Hellmouth of Sunnydale.

hehe..Sailor Moon. S2 was so good.
I liked the Nexus in Season 1 with the episode, "Is there a Woogy In the House?". That talks about the Woogy, which is the Nexus. How, people born inside the manor could swing Good or Evil, something we've seen with both Phoebe and Wyatt, both of who were born inside the Halliwell Manor.
And then S5 and S7 come into the scene and discuss the Nexus. So much more complicated. Do they actually acknowledge that these two things are the same?

They changed it to where the Nexus was something bad. Something that corrupts. I thought that the Woogyman was merely a side-effect of the Nexus (being the fact that the house was good so they needed something evil). Then again they refer to it as the Nexus but also adding "Spiritual" before it to make it sound good.

Why is the Nexus the center of Chinese elements - namely earth, wood, fire, metal and water? How did Chinese elements come into play regarding witches who are supposed to be Wiccans?

Because the sisters weren't truly Wiccans, since the producers had no idea what Wiccans truly were. The sisters used all of the various non-Christian religions to explain how their powers worked while still remaining Christians themselves.

Normally there's only four elements. Water, earth, fire and air. I suppose they needed five elements to make up the pentagram so they used the elements from the Chinese.
Besides, each had something to do with some building or place in San Francisco. What place would be air? A windmill?

There are FIVE elements associated with Wiccans - earth, water, fire, air and spirit. I guess that Burge and her writers were either too stupid or lazy to learn this.

So the stupidity and the laziness started way back in S1. *sigh* It really is amazing that the show was so good despite the writers! YOu can tell the writers were Christians who truly had no idea what the other religions were all about--as I said, I don't even think they ever counted the sisters as Wiccans, but as Christians with powers that followed the writers' version of Wiccan rules.

Yes, the stupidity DID begin in Season 1. After all, Victor's last name was Halliwell . . . until "That 70s Episode".
Warlocks went into game face, considering that is impossible. Since warlocks are simply witches gone evil, they are supposed to be mortals, not demons.
Season 1 also gave us that idiotic theory that Phoebe was more inclined toward evil because she was born in the manor.
So, despite being entertaining, Season 1 had its moments of sheer stupidity, thanks to the writers.

The Nexus was this high concentrate of powerful energy. It is power that can be swayed either good or bad...depending on the person...like for instance:the charmed ones versus...ooooooh, lets just say Zankou for example

The discussion of the nexus is pointless...it has been stated many of times in a couple of seasons that the nexus can be used for evil or good...just like the Hollow...remember that. And the only reason why Wyatt and phoebe are so susceptible to evil is because when born, their powers were connected to the house...which in turn is in connected with the Nexus. The woogy man is just a little "nick name" that phoebe called when she was a child. It's not so much the house that can make someone evil, but rather, the force of evil behind it. As easily as they can be influenced by evil...it is just as easy to be influenced by good...the writers just never wanted to see a demon or warlock go good with acception of Pru's friend...i forgot the episode but I know it's there..,

This whole Nexus theory is bullsh*t. And it is stupid. It goes against the true nature of all individuals. Phoebe and Wyatt are no more suceptible to evil than the other members of the family. It is a stupid theory that Phoebe had brought up and Piper and Prue had criminally agreed with so that they could explain Phoebe's wild past. It is stupid. Prue, Piper, Paige and Chris have shown that they can be just as evil or monstrous as Phoebe and Wyatt.
It's not about where one was born or what kind of species you are. It's about making choices and dealing with one's emotions. Piper, Prue, Paige and Chris have shown that they are just as capable of making bad choice. They have also allowed their emotions to get the best of them and lead them into making some very dark choices.
What the hell was Constance Burge thinking when she created that stupid theory?
