Unless the Charmed Ones had completely lost their free will and identities from the "bliss" of living a demon-free life. Then, the Avatars would have been basically moving around chess pieces in their own personal playground for the rest of eternity. If there is one thing more powerful than the Avatars, it's nature. I suspect that sooner or later, the Avatars' "Utopia" would have ended.

Well then what was the whole point, if there was no permanent risk?

Well then what was the whole point, if there was no permanent risk? The whole point was that the Charmed Ones had helped cast a spell that went against nature. They also helped to use magic on millions of human beings without the latter's consent. And they did all of this in order to live their own personal lives without continuing as demon hunters. It was wrong.

I meant: what was the point of introducing the whole Avatar storyline, if anything the Avatars did would just end up being reversed/negated by nature in the long run?

This conversation has just come full circle! Having watched the Avatar storyline before ever getting into Angel, watching the Jasmine storyline of season four really let me compare the two.
I think there was a problem with both of them in a way. I think it's just the fact that they were both thrown in randomly and ended too soon. In Angel, the Jasmine storyline was thrown in last minute because of Charisma Carpenter's pregnancy (as she was supposed to be the Big Bad but they had to write in a Bigger Bad to replace her). In Charmed, it was that the storyline only really lasted half a season. They spent too much time on "Is Leo going crazy?" and not enough on the Avatars themselves and the world they created. I would have liked to see a few episode where the Charmed Ones are living in the Utopian world.
