The Second Coming
(Quest for the Gremoir Part 4)

Act 1

Their Manor had seen many different types of battles over the years, but none this big since The Charmed Ones lived here. Known among demons as the Second Coming Kristen, Kay, and Karri are direct descendents of Melinda Warren and the great-Granddaughters of the Charmed Ones. They are the most powerful witches of their time.

The three cousin witches have lived together in the family manor for the last five years. Like their great-grandparents before them, they had gathered at the manor when they were ready and received their powers.

The oldest, Kay, is Piper’s great-granddaughter and has the power of time manipulation. She can freeze time or, on a limited basis, speed it up or slow it down at will. Also, a gift from her Grandmother Melinda, Kay has the ability to Orb.

Her cousin, Karri, is Phoebe’s great-granddaughter. Like her great-grandmother before her, Karri gets premonitions, but Karri can take it one step further. She can step into the premonitions to affect the outcome, effectively traveling through space and time.

Their cousin, Kristen, is Paige’s great-granddaughter. Paige had married a warlock and due to this, Kristen can shimmer. She also has the power of force projectiles, which allows her to send things flying by sending a force of power through the air.

The second coming was using these powers to fight off the Source. It is the first time since The Charmed Ones were alive that anyone has dared go up against a Source of all Evil. There was a very good reason for this. Karri’s would-be great uncle was conceived when her great-grandmother Phoebe was married to the Source and she had changed sides briefly.

When Phoebe was put to a decision of weather to help kill her sisters or vanquish her husband, she chose her sisters and she helped vanquish her husband Cole. But she still had the Sources heir inside of her until one day a Seer stole the baby from the Phoebe’s wound and was coroneted as the new Source. Shortly thereafter, the Seer and the Demon fetus were both vanquished.

But the damage had been done. That fetus was the most magical being ever, and since it was in the Seer when she was coroneted as the Source, The fetus’s powers remained as a power to be received by the new Source at coronation. When a demon named Madrek seized power in the underworld, he absorbed those powers and became untouchable.

The past five years had come to a head and for the first time, The Source was going up against the Second Coming. He had a strategy. Before he attacked, he would see if his powers did in fact exceed the Second Coming. Feeling it was easier than replacing their stuff every couple of weeks, the cousin’s had cast a very powerful spell to protect the Manor against evil. Up until now, it had worked perfectly, keeping every demon that tried to pass it at bay.

So, Madrek waited until the cousins were asleep and summoned all his powers. He then sent a line of fire towards the manors front door. The door exploded with a vengeance. Witnessing this, he saw clearly that his powers exceeded theirs. He then very deliberately continued inside and upstairs. He had studied the Second coming and decided that being ripped from their sleep in this fashion would send them directly to the attic and the Book of Shadows.

The attic is indeed where this battle of good verses evil is taking place. The source sends a stream of fire at Kay who orbs out of the way. She reappears beside the book with Karri to her right. They look at Madrek and see him throw an energy ball at them.

Each of the girls dive out of the way as the energy ball hits the wall behind them, kicking up a big cloud of wood and dust. When it all settles, there is a hole in the wall big enough to fly a Mini Cooper through it.

Seeing all this going down, Kristen takes a big risk and runs towards the spot where her cousins lie. She jumps as Madrek throws another energy ball. This time she is the target. Instinctively, she throws a force projectile back and the two powers meet in the air creating a big explosion. The force of this explosion is enough to send Kristen flying through the big picture window behind her.

A second later, Kristen appears behind Madrek. She shimmered before she hit the pavement and took this opportunity to sneak up behind him. She hits him in the back with a force projectile which is enough to send him to flying to the middle of the attic.

Kay sees that Madrek is getting back to his feet so she quickly freezes time. Reacting instinctively, Karri, who is now on her feet, takes the stones they will use to encage him and throws them onto the ground. Though they do not form a circle, it is close enough for Kristen to get the stones all around him.

While he is still frozen, the cousins turn the Book of Shadows to the Source Vanquishing spell and, in unison, read it aloud.

“Prudence, Penelope, Patricia, Melinda.
Astrid, Helena, Laura, and Grace.
Halliwell witches stand strong beside us.
Vanquish this evil from time and space”<br>
A fire appears around Madrek’s ankles and goes up around his waist. It is soon engulfing his entire body. Finally, an explosion powerful enough to knock the cousins back occurs and when the smoke clears, Madrek is still there.

Seeing this, Kristen says to her cousins, “He’s still here, shouldn’t he have gone by-by after an explosion like that?”<br>
Kay, seeing Madrek starting to laugh, says, “He’s too powerful, we can’t vanquish him”<br>

“That’s right witches,” taunts Madrek, “I am the most powerful being in existence. I have all the powers from the sources that reined before me. You cannot destroy anything as powerful as me.”<br>
“Wait,” says Karri. “What about the Power of Three? That should be strong enough to destroy him.”<br>
Kristen answers, “We just tried that and he laughed in our faces.”<br>
“”No,” corrects Karri. “I mean the original Power of Three; the Charmed Ones. We could go back in time and get their help.”<br>
Kay looks at Madrek and sees that he is sending flames from his hands to the stone immediately in front of him. The stone starts getting smaller and smaller. Kay says, “Whatever we do, we have to do it fast.”<br>
With that Kristin asks, “Well how are we going to go back in time?”<br>
“I think I have a spell that should work,” Karri informs them. She grabs her cousins’ hands and says;”<br>
“Open a vortex and do it fast
To travel to a time that’s in the past,
When the Charmed One’s stood in this very Place,
Send us now through time and space.”<br>
Suddenly a vortex appears behind the Cousins and they are sucked into it. Unfortunately for them, the vortexes’ power is great enough that it pulls the closest crystal towards it, freeing Madrek. Seeing the vortex begin to close, Madrek runs and jumps through it.

The cousins are sliding through what they figure must be a wormhole. They are getting shaken all around when, out of the corner of her eye, Kristen see’s Madrek behind them. He is controlling his slide through the wormhole like he was an old hand at this. She noticed that he was gaining quickly and would soon be upon them.

Not knowing if it would be a good idea or not, Kristen sends a force projectile towards Madrek, hitting him perfectly in the chest. The force of the hit is enough to send Madrek backwards a ways. Then the vortex opens up again and the Second coming is dumped back into the Manor’s attic at a time long since past.

End of Act 1

Oh, it gets so much better. I an particularlly proud of the spells in this story. I have always liked the Power transfer spell I used in Hello Again;

Let my blood be hers and her blood be mine.
The Power of Three I transfer at this time.
Let it protect her always come whatever may be,
And allow the Power of Three to set her free

But a spell I use later in this story tops even that. I'll point it out when I get there. Here's Act 2

Act 2

Piper is in the attic looking through the Book of Shadows for a way to banish a pesky Poltergeist. Leo is with her. “Piper, you tried this already. There is nothing in the Book of Shadows about how to get rid of poltergeists,” says Leo.

“Leo, this thing is acting like am umbrella in the shower and a water balloon for the bath. I have not been able to wash up in three days and that thing is going to pay for that. I mean, we’ve vanquished witches, warlocks, and some of the most powerful demons the world has ever seen. We have even vanquished the Source of all Evil numerous times. After all of that, I am not letting a Poltergeist get the best of me.”<br>
“Well then, why don’t we just call the Ghost Busters,” suggests Leo.

“Leo, be serious. We need a real solution here, not an 80’s movie”<br>
“I am being serious. Ghost Busters really do exist. In fact they were the inspiration for the movies.”<br>
With her excitement growing, Piper says, “Is the Proton Pack real? I have always wanted one of those.”<br>
“Not the way you think. They have the power to send Proton Particle Streams from their hands to capture the ghost. Then they open their mouths really wide while emitting a bright white light. Then they suck the ghost in and digest it. It’s how they feed.”<br>
“So you’re telling me that there are creatures out there that feed on people’s spirits and you want me to ask these things for help? Tell me, please, because right now I’m thinking it would be a whole lot more fun to vanquish them.”<br>
“I know they sound evil, but it’s a necessary evil. First off, they feed on evil spirits. Second, if it weren’t for them, the spirit world would run rampant. They have a big part in keeping the world cosmically balanced.”<br>
“Ok, so how do we call them?”<br>
Just then a vortex opens up in front of them and the second coming is thrown onto the floor. Instinctively, Piper goes to blow them up when Leo grabs her hand saying, “Wait, stop. That was a vortex. They’re time travelers. Freeze the room.”<br>
“What do you…,” begins Piper.

“Hurry,” yells Leo forcefully.

“OOO,” says Piper while flicking her wrist to free the room. “You’re asking for it.”<br>
All of a sudden they hear a strange voice say “Grams.”<br>
“They didn’t freeze. Leo, why didn’t they freeze?” rambled Piper.

“I think you know the answer to that. We’re good witches, and we’ve come for your help Grams,” informs Kay.

“Grams, why do you keep calling me Grams,” asked Piper?

“Because, you’re my great-grandmother.”

Piper, Leo, and the Second Coming are walking down the stairs. Piper is on the Phone with Phoebe. “Yah Phoebe, just get home. I’ll explain when you get here because I am not totally sure what is going on here either. Alright, I’ll talk to you in a few, bye.”<br>
She hangs up with Phoebe and turns towards the second coming and says, “All right, Paige is out shopping with my cousin Price. They’ll be here in a couple minutes. Phoebe is leaving the Bay Mirror now and should be here about the same time as Paige.”<br>
“Is it safe to talk in-front of your cousin,” asked Kristen.

“Yah,” answered Piper. “She knows our little family secret. A couple months ago we had to transfer Phoebe’s powers to her to keep the Power of Three alive.”<br>
“Just be careful who you let in on your little secret. I can’t go into details because of possible repercussions, but someone close to you that knows your secret will use it against you.” warned Kay.

“Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind.” responds Piper. “But back to this grams thing. I’m your girls’ great grand-mother.”<br>
“Close,” answered Kay. “You’re my Great Grand-mother. Phoebe is Karri’s, and Paige is Kristen’s. And we came here because we need your help.”

“Well, let me make us some coffee and we’ll wait for Paige and Phoebe to get here so you don’t have to keep explaining it.”<br>
Ten minutes later The Charmed One’s and the Second Coming are sitting in the conservatory with Leo and Price. Kay begins to explain the circumstances that brought them there; “After the three of you were no longer in a position to fight demons, an upper level demon named Madrek was coroneted as the new Source. Nobody has attempted to go up against him in quite a long time. He is way too powerful for anyone to vanquish.”<br>
“But we have been fighting the fight for about five years now and always getting better. We are known in demonic circles as the Second Coming. One direct descendent from each of the three of you. We inspire fear among them just like you three did,” continued Kristen.

“But apparently we were turning a lot of heads because the Source himself just broke through our charms protecting the Manor from evil. Nobody has had the power to do that before. He had to of used the unborn fetus’s powers to do it. It is the only magic that would be strong enough.” explained Kari.

Kay continues, “He caught us off guard, but we were able to trap him behind crystals. Then we went to the book and said the Source Vanquishing spell. Then he was covered in fire and a big explosion. But when the smoke cleared, he was still there. That’s when we made up a spell to come here for your help.”<br>
“See, with us saying the spell, it isn’t powerful enough,” explains Kristen. “So we were thinking that the combination of your powers and ours, it might be enough power behind the spell to vanquish him. He was actually able to follow us into the vortex. I saw him out of the corner of my eye and hit him with a Force Projectiles. It was enough to slow him down, but he should have been here by now. I don’t know why he hasn’t shown himself yet.”<br>
Concerned now, Phoebe says and you thought that the combination of all of our powers would do the trick.” The Second Coming nods at this question. “Have you ever traveled through time before? You haven’t, have you?”<br>
“Well no,” answers Karri. “Why?”<br>
“Try using your powers,” answers Paige.

So Kay tries to orb to no avail. Kristen tries to shimmer without any better luck, and Karri’s premonitions have failed her. The second coming is powerless. “We have no powers. Where are our powers,” asks Kay?

Leo answers,” see, technically, you don’t exist yet in this time frame so you don’t have your powers yet. In this time, your powers have yet to grow and be passed on. So while you’re here, especially if Madrek is after you, you’re vulnerable. So you have to be extra careful.”<br>
“What about in the future,” asks Kristen? “Would you three retain your powers if you traveled to our time?”<br>
“That’s hard to say,” answers Phoebe. “We have traveled to the future once, but we inhabited our future selves and were able to control our powers in our future bodies. And we have brought the dead back to life and they retained their powers, But as for actually traveling to the distant future, we have never tried that. We honestly can’t say if we would still have powers or if they would be gone having been passed down the generations.”<br>
“First things first, I think we ought to go upstairs and check the book for Madrek,” suggests Leo. “Price, things are about to get hectic. I’ll orb you home so you’re not in danger.”<br>
“Thanks Leo. I appreciate it,” says Price as Leo orbs her out.

Leo returns a moment later and Piper stops him and says, “I have a bad feeling. Orb back to Prices, but don’t let her know you’re there. Just watch her for me.”<br>
Leo does as he is asked and orbs out

Back at Price’s Manor, she has gone downstairs. In a corner behind some boxes, Leo is crouched, listening.

Price grabs five candles and places them in a circle. Slowly, she lights each one until they are all lit and her alter is ready. She then closes her eyes and says;

One who was once a beacon of light,
That now commands the darkness of the night,
Cross over to where magic can roam free,
Come to me, I beg of thee

Suddenly, a black mist begins to form in the space in front of Price. As the mist takes shape, she sees the familiar face of her Master, Skole.

“Master, I have news. The Charmed Ones descendents have traveled through time to the present. They are known as the Second Coming. They are three cousins, each descended from one of the sisters,” informs Price.

“And this means what to me,” asks Skole irritated.

“Being in a time before they existed has rendered the Cousins powerless,” answers Price. “They are vulnerable to attack, which makes the Charmed Ones vulnerable.”<br>
“Interesting, is there anything else you want to tell me?”<br>
“The sisters might have to travel to the future to save their future great-granddaughters. If they do, that finally leaves the Gremoir open for retrieval,” informs Price. “The only monkey wrench could be that The Source supposedly followed the Second Coming here.”<br>
“Then we will just make sure that the battle happens in the future. That will give us the time we need to get the Gremoir and return it to its rightful place in the hands of evil.”<br>

Back at the Halliwell Manor, the Charmed Ones are looking through the Book of Shadows for Madrek when a time vortex suddenly appears. Before anything else comes through, an energy ball comes seemingly through the vortex, hitting Kay squarely in the back. Kay flies forward and lands on the back of her neck.

Madrek then steps out of the vortex and throws an energy ball at Karri, but the Charmed Ones are ready for him. Piper quickly freezes the room, but all that freezes is the energy ball. Paige calls for the energy ball and throws it towards Madrek who spins while jumping backwards and narrowly avoids being hit.

This is what the Charmed Ones had hoped for. Knowing the battle was imminent, the sisters had placed four stones in a semi-circle. When Paige threw the energy ball at Madrek, she had done it to force him into the trap where Phoebe was waiting to drop the last stone in place. When Madrek’s feet hit the ground, Phoebe put the last stone in place, trapping Madrek where he stood.

Moving quickly, the sisters gather around the Book of Shadows. They open to a page that they had bookmarked all of ten minutes earlier. They now had the book open to the Source Vanquishing Spell. They read in unison:

“Prudence, Penelope, Patricia, Melinda.
Astrid, Helena, Laura, and Grace.
Halliwell witches stand strong beside us.
Vanquish this evil from time and space”<br>
Once again, Madrek’s feet are engulfed in flames that keep rising until there is an explosion. This one is powerful enough to send everyone flying backwards. However, when the smoke clears, Madrek is alive and well. As for the Second Coming, none of them made it.

Kay was killed when the energy ball hit her through the vortex. Apparently, the explosion, which should have vanquished Madrek, was powerful enough to kill the two remaining members of the Second Coming

After Skole vanished from Price’s sight, he rematerialized at the Halliwell manor, but remained invisible. For the last couple weeks, he had been playing the part of Poltergeist at the sisters’ expense. He used his invisibility to get the combination to the safe and to see if he could still affect his surroundings. It was all practice leading up to his ultimate conquest, The Gremoir.

On this day, when Skole arrived, he went upstairs and waited with The Charmed Ones and the Second Coming for the future’s Source to arrive. When he saw the vortex appear, he orbed in behind it and sent an orb ball at the one called Kay, killing her instantly. He then waited back for an opportunity to hit the other two.

He got that when the explosion occurred. He quickly sent an orb ball both to his right and left, hitting each of the cousins squarely. He then admired his work for a second before orbing back to Price.

“The Second Coming is no more,” informs Skole as he orbs back in front of Price. “The Charmed Ones will want to find a way to save their great-granddaughters. To do that, they will have to travel to the future and stop Madrek from following them into the vortex. When they do that, you will return to their house and retrieve the Gremoir.”<br>
Leo, still hiding behind the boxes, hears this and attempts to orb back to the sisters. His physical body disappears into a mass of swirling blue orbs and starts to rise up into the air when they’re blocked and Leo rematerializes in Prices basement and falls to the ground.

Hearing this, Price gets up to investigate. She walks behind the boxes and sees Leo. But before she can cry out to Skole, Leo hits her with memory dust. Instantly, Prices immediate memory is erased. Leo says to her, “you saw nothing behind the boxes. The noise you heard must have been the wind blowing the broken shutter around.”

Leo then moves to the back of the basement unnoticed. Price returns to Skole and says, “There’s nothing. The wind must be blowing the broken shutter around again.”<br>
“Fine, I will return to the Charmed Ones Manor and wait for them to cast the spell to travel to the future. When they are gone, I will come get you. Then you will retrieve the Gremoir and return it to me. I will stay out of sight so that their Whitelighter doesn’t see me and report back that I am still alive.

“But we still don’t know if it now protects itself against evil. What if the book protects itself against me?”<br>
“I have already thought of that. Here drink this potion.” He hands her a potion. “There, I have stripped your powers. Without powers, the book can’t protect itself against you. Here is the combination to the safe. You should have no trouble now.”<br>
Skole orbs out, leaving Price behind, smiling.

Back at the Halliwell Manor, Piper Phoebe, and Paige are sitting around the dinner table discussing their next move.

“We don’t have a choice here,” says Paige. “They are our great-granddaughters. We have to save them and the only way we can do that is by going to the future and stopping Madrek from entering the time vortex.”<br>
“I don’t think it was Madrek who got the best of them. I think it was our poltergeist friend. So taking care of him in the future might not change what happened here today,” informs Piper.

“But it’s the only plan we’ve got,” pleads Paige. “We have to try something.”<br>
“Paige, even if we do go to the future, there is no guarantee that our powers will still work,” reminds Piper. “Not to mention, the Source Vanquishing Spell is not powerful enough to destroy him. We need a new spell ASAP. And it took us months to come up with this one.”<br>
“I think I have that covered,” interrupts Phoebe. “Ever since we vanquished Skole, I couldn’t help but think that these sources are just going to keep getting more and more powerful. So since then I have been working on a new one. And I think I have one.” She hands out a couple pieces of paper with a spell written on them. “Theoretically, this should be the most powerful spell ever written. It should have more than enough power to vanquish any demon we go up against.”<br>
“And if our powers don’t work,” questions Piper, “then what?”<br>
“Then we have them say the spell,” answers Phoebe.

“All right then,” says Piper, “we’ll go. But we have to write a spell to travel to the future, quickly.”

Act 5

One and a half hours later, the Charmed Ones stood, unified, in the attic of their family’s manor holding two spells. One was the new and improved Source Vanquishing Spell. The other was a spell to open a portal to the time of their great-granddaughters.

Gathering around the Book of Shadows, the sisters burn a piece of paper with The Second Coming’s names on it and read the spell in unison;

In order to undo what has been done,
Take us to a time that is yet to come.
Open a bridge to their time and date,
Take us now to mend their fate.

In front of them, a vortex appears. The sisters walk around the stand that is holding the Book of Shadows and join hands. They look at each other and walk forward, hand in hand, into the vortex.

With the sisters gone, Skole orbs back to Price’s Manor and takes her hand. In an instant,
They have orbed back to the sisters manor. Price wastes no time in running to the safe and opening it. Grabbing the Gremoir, she runs back to Skole and they orb out.

Having timed his Orb with that of Skoles’ Leo is able to get around the defenses preventing orbing. He orbs back to the manor and watches quietly as Price steals the Gremoir. Powerless to stop them, Leo turns the corner and watches as the Poison filled orbs float through the ceiling and out of the Manor. Feeling dejected and not at all looking forward to telling the sisters that their cousin, of all people, played them as fools, Leo orbs back to the Book of Shadows to await the sisters’ return.

An instant after entering the vortex, the Charmed Ones are transported to the future. Once there, they walk out of the vortex and into a battle. They watch as their great-granddaughters say the Source Vanquishing spell to no avail. They see Kari suggest traveling back in time to get their help. They walk forward and Piper says, “When you do, you have to be careful.”<br>
After a moment, Second Coming recognizes the Charmed Ones from pictures still in the manor. “Wow,” says Karri. I didn’t see that one coming. How are you here, we haven’t even gone back yet?”<br>
“Never mind that,” says Paige. “The Source Vanquishing spell isn’t powerful enough even with us saying it. You have to go back in time and explain what’s happened, leaving out the part of us already being here. We’ll take care of Madrek here. Just make sure we come to the future with Phoebe’s new Source Vanquishing Spell.”<br>
“What makes you think you can take care of me,” taunted Madrek. “I killed the three of you more than 30 years ago. Without much of a fight either.”<br>
The sisters flinch at this revelation before Phoebe says, “Thanks for the warning. Then you can consider this some much overdue revenge.”<br>
The sisters pull out a piece of paper and together they read aloud;

“A source of a thousand years
and the human who absorbed him.
A seer with ambitious plans
And the unborn fetus that joined them.
All overcome by the Power of Three,
Now this Source of all Evil shall cease to be.”<br>
With a speed and ferocity they had never encountered before, Madrek exploded, knocking the sisters back, and leaving nothing but bits of residue on the walls.

Slowly, Piper gets up and says to Phoebe, “Remind me to never get you mad again. Let’s go home.”<br>
“What once was done is now undone,
Return us to the time from whence we come.
Open a bridge to our time and date.
Take us now, we’ve mended their fate.”<br>
In front of them, the vortex opens and sucks them in. A heartbeat later, they are back in their own time. Leo is waiting for them next to the Book of Shadows. “We’ve got problems.”<br>
“The girls are okay,” says Paige worriedly.

“Yah, they’re fine. You changed history, but…”

“Let me guess,” says Piper, “Paige stole the Gremoir.”<br>
“How did you know,” asks Leo confused?

“And she is in cahoots with Skole, whom by the way, we didn’t actually vanquish.”<br>
Phoebe and Paige look at each other in disbelief.

“Oh yah, she’s been playing us for fools since day one,” continues Piper.

“How did you know,” asks Leo?

“Before you two got home, Karri warned me that someone we trusted with our family secret will betray us. She wouldn’t tell me who, but it’s obvious. Price was in cahoots with Skole, whom I don't think was actually the Source. We were told that he was the new Source, but he didn’t have Phoebe’s babies’ powers. This Source did. I think he used his knowlage as a Whitelighter to plant some false information to be passed on to us.”<br>
“But we vanquished Skole,” says Paige.

“But we used the Source Vanquishing Spell.” responds Piper. “It wasn’t written to get rid of rouge Whitelighter, it was written to vanquish the Source.”<br>
“So what do we do,” asks Paige?

“Simple,” answers Piper with a determined look in her eyes, “we keep our friends close and our enemies closer.”<br>
