A night to remember
Chapter one
The air was cold against his face as he looked around the moonlit arboretum. The leaves of the trees and rose bushes were a dark green, so dark that they were almost black. The moonlight cast off an eerie glow and there were no sounds to be heard whatsoever.
Chris looked around the place, he hadn’t been there since the last time he saw her. His gaze fell upon a single red rose bud; it was the brightest red he had ever seen and it stood out so beautifully from the dark that surrounded it. As he drew closer to it, he noticed that it had begun to bloom. He was mesmerized and captivated by the sight of the flower.
He reached out to touch the rose; his fingers touched the soft, satin-like petals. When he drew his hand away, blood dripped from his finger tips. He glanced at the rose, it was now dying. Its extravagant petals began to turn brown and fall into the puddles of blood that it had spilled on the grass.
“Remember why you’re here,” she said.
“Bianca?” Chris said as he reached out to touch her.
She smiled and took his hand in hers; she was very much real. Tears filled her eyes, “I missed you so much.”
“But how-you-”
She shook her head, “It doesn’t matter. What matters is that we can still be together. Remember what you’re here for.”
She looked towards her right; Piper and Leo were leaning over Wyatt’s crib.
Bianca yelled out in pain, she was bleeding from the side where she was impaled in his past.
“Bianca, no,” Chris said looking at the wound and then at her. Bianca looked to the left of her; Zoey was standing there, dressed in a flowy white gown. Then she was gone.
“Chris,” Bianca said then disappeared.
A silver engagement ring fell into Chris’ palm. The rose bush burst into flames.
Chris gasped as he sat up straight in his bed. He sighed and placed a hand to his forehead. The sound of a police siren reminded him that it was just a dream. He glanced at the clock and in neon green it read three-thirty a.m.

Chapter Two
“Where is she?” Chris demanded pacing the attic impatiently.
“Chris calm down, we’re here so why don’t we just vanquish this demon ourselves?” Phoebe suggested trying to calm the nerves of the very neurotic white lighter.
“Yeah,” Piper chimed in, “After all, we are the Charmed Ones.”
Chris let out a sigh; “Because this thing’s power is the exact same as Zoey’s, we need her to deflect its power so that you guys can vanquish it. What are you not understanding about this?”
“Well someone’s moody, not like it’s unusual,” Paige said under her breath.
Chris glared at the three sisters, “For all we know this could-“
“Be the demon that is after Wyatt,” the three finished in unison.
“Look Chris, we get that this is important but don’t you think sending us after all these demons is going to tire us out?” Phoebe said pointedly.
“Yeah,” Piper added. “If we’re tired out, we’re useless and that puts my son at an even greater risk.”
“You know what would be great,” Paige said, “Is if you could tell us what demon-“
“I don’t know what demon it was,” Chris said restlessly.
“Well then how bad is it in the future?” Phoebe asked.
“I can’t tell you that and you know it,” Chris said. “Where the hell is she?”
Zoey shimmered in, “Hey sorry for being late,” she said as she took her red purse off and set it aside.
“Where the hell have you been?” Chris demanded. “We’ve been waiting twenty minutes; don’t you know that this has priority over all your picture taking time and the time you spend flirting?” he continued irritated at the fact that they were behind schedule.
“Whoa, pmsing much? One, I apologized; two, I couldn’t get out of counseling and three, I know that this is important so take a chill pill ok?”
“What’s the counseling for? You never mentioned any counseling,” Piper said.
“Oh, well it’s kind of new. I’ve only been going for the past week. My school counselor thinks that if I won’t share with her then I have to share with someone else, because she believes I’m holding in all my emotions. Which by the way, just to let you know, I’m not emotionally unstable.”
“Oh, sweetie, you can always talk-“
“Can we get a move on?” Chris interrupted. “This isn’t a social call.” He turned to Zoey, “Next time work harder on getting out of counseling, the world doesn’t revolve around you.”
“Hey Chris, is that stick shoved far enough up your-“
“Alright, let’s just get this show on the road, shall we?” Phoebe said.
Zoey glared at Chris. “Alright, the plan is this, Piper will summon the demon, Zoey will use her power against it and then the three of you will vanquish it,” Chris explained.
Piper read the summoning spell and the five of them waited for a while in silence. Piper glanced over at Phoebe who shrugged.
“Was that the right spell?” Zoey asked looking around.
“Of course it was the right spell,” Chris snapped.
Zoey was about to say something when she flew across the room and slammed into the potion’s cabinet.
She picked herself up and looked around shocked; another violent gust of wind knocked her back down.
“Zoey hurry,” Paige said.
“How the hell do you fight something you can’t see?” She raised into the air and was smacked violently to the wall, falling to the floor with a loud thud. Zoey struggled to get up; the breeze died down and she closed her eyes.
“Zoey-“ Piper began.
“Shh.” She found her inner calm, which Leo had been training her to find the past week. She was connected with everything in the air. She felt the others as they breathed, causing the air to ripple. The air changed suddenly. A drop in the temperature occurred behind her. Zoey turned and punched the air, only something stumbled back and fell onto the table. She quickly threw the sweater, which she had worn around her waist onto the table. A lump formed under the black and white material.
The Charmed Ones said a vanquishing spell in unison and the figure burst into flames.
“Ow,” Zoey said as she touched her bottom lip with the tips of her fingers. Blood was coming out of her bottom lip. “Ah crap.”
“It’s alright,” Paige said. “It could have been worse.”
“No, the sweater. I was supposed to give it back to Jake today. It was his favorite one too.”
“Zoey do you want to stay for dinner?” Piper asked as the five of them descended the stairs.
“Afterwards we have to go over a plan for our next vanquish,” Chris said. “This one was really sloppy on Zoey’s part.”
Zoey glared at him. “I can’t stay, but thanks for the invite.”
“This is important,” Chris stated. “What’s going to happen next time you get blind sided like that? You can’t leave until-“
“Actually, I can and will. I have a load of homework to do and I need to finish cleaning the house for the sale, besides, today’s laundry night. Bye.” She shimmered out.
Chris glared at the sisters. “You could’ve helped.”
Paige and Phoebe merely glanced at him then walked out of the room.
Piper smiled and placed a hand on his shoulder, “Come on, there’s enough for everyone.”
end of chapter two

***** Chapter three
Zoey turned down the radio and took off the yellow gloves that she had been cleaning with, and went to answer the door. “Hey Piper,” she said cheerily, glad to see a friend.
“Hey, did I catch you at a bad time?” she asked noticing the cleaning gloves in Zoey’s hand and her cleaning clothes.
“No, come in,” Zoey replied stepping aside, “I was just doing some cleaning.”
Piper nodded, “Paige told me that someone bought the house?”
Zoey nodded, “Yeah, they’re really nice people. Strange that they bought it considering what happened. Maybe the property value decreased due to that.”
Piper smiled sympathetically at the girl. She could clearly tell that this was bringing up some hard feelings for her. “So, how are you handling?”
“Ok I guess. I mean, now I’m at the in between stage; part of me is sad about moving out but the other part needs to just get away.”
“So have you found a place to stay yet?”
“Jake’s parents said that I’m more than welcomed to live with them, I think I’ll do that, pick up another job then find a place of my own. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great people and I love Jake, it’s just- I feel like I’m intruding. You know what I mean?”
Piper nodded and dug out a small box from her purse and handed it to Zoey.
Zoey opened the box, “A key?”
“To the manor; I want you to move in. The rooms are taken but we do have a spacious basement that’s all yours to do anything with.”
“Piper I don’t know what to say to this. Are you sure?”
“I’m positive. I can’t let you move out on your own financially unprepared.”
Zoey smiled and gave her a hug. “Thank you so much.”
****
Chris orbed into the manor. Piper rushed over to him and smacked him on the arm.
“What was that for?” he asked.
“For orbing in on move in day,” she answered.
“What?”
“Coming through,” Phoebe said and bumped into a tall, well built young man with black hair and a tattoo of a snake on his left arm. “Sorry,” he said then continued on.
Phoebe looked at Piper, “I love move in day,” she said still eyeing the young man.
Chris rolled his eyes. “Who’s moving in?”
“I am,” Zoey answered walking up to them. “Why, you think I might make more sloppy mistakes and things like that?” she said with a sly smile.
Chris smiled, “Funny.”
“Who’s tall, dark and handsome?” Phoebe asked curiously. Zoey smiled, “That would be Bryan Atwood, he’s a friend of mine; sadly nothing more.”
Piper laughed, “A crush of yours?”
“Since like the sixth grade,” Zoey said as she waved at him.
“Aguilar, can you say subtle?” Jake said.
“Oh shut up Jake,” she said and smacked him in the arm. “Where are Ben and Adam?”
“Adam left, Gigi called.”
“He’s so whipped,” Zoey said.
Jake laughed, “Exactly what I said. Ben’s down in the basement. The last I saw, he was reading one of your diaries.”
Zoey’s eyes widened and she made to leave the room but Jake stopped her.
“I’m kidding, Zo. He’s setting some of your boxes in your room. The diary’s right here.” He held a small green, hard covered diary with a lock.
“Jake give that back,” she said taking hold of his arm to reach for the diary.
“If I’m right, green was the one you used for sophomore year?” he said while laughing and trying fend Zoey off. He tossed the diary to Chris.
Zoey whipped around, “Give me that.”
Chris smirked and tossed it back to Jake.
Zoey sighed frustrated, “Fine, keep it. Hope you enjoy.” She began to walk away then turned and jumped onto Jake’s back and seized the diary. “Ha!” she shouted victoriously still on his back.
“You guys are terrible,” Piper said as she and Phoebe left them.
“Zoey please, not here, not now,” Jake said with a sly grin. “I told you that’s for later.”
Zoey rolled her eyes and stepped back down to the floor.
“ZoZo, you’re stuff is all set down there,” Bryan said.
Zoey flashed a sweet smile, “Thanks. Oh yeah, Chris, this is Bryan; Bryan this is Chris.”
“Hey what’s up man,” Bryan said shaking hands with Chris.
Bryan turned to Zoey, “A boyfriend?”
Zoey laughed and shook her head, “No, just a friend. He’s kind of new to town in a way.”
“That’s cool. You should come to The Echo; it’s a club on 13th Ave., our bands playing there tomorrow night. Also, that’s where we usually kick it, on Saturday nights.”
Chris nodded, “Yeah, maybe I’ll check it out.”
“I’ve gotta jet; are we still on for this weekend?”
Zoey nodded, “Yup, pick me up at ten?”
“Yeah. See ya Jake. It was nice meeting you Chris.”
Jake turned and gave Zoey a look, “What’s this weekend?”
“None of your business,” Zoey said teasingly.
“Are you and Bryan?”
“No, we’re just going up to Berkley. His family is having a get together and since you’ll be away and Adam will be with Gigi, he asked me to go with him. You know a relationship is the last thing on my mind.”
Jake nodded, “I see, so with you and Bryan it’s the whole friends with benefits thing.”
“Jake shut up.”
“Hey, to each his own. It’s just -’ve been friends with you the longest…”
“Fine, let’s go, right now.”
Jake laughed and hugged Zoey, “I’m just playing. But if you insist, then I won’t argue with you.” He began to drag her away from Chris. “Anyways, see you tomorrow,” he said finally and kissed her on the cheek. "See ya Chris."
Zoey was still smiling as she fixed her pony-tail. She sighed.
“You two act like that all the time?” Chris asked.
“Pretty much. If you hang out with us, you’ll get used to it. You’ll probably pick things up too, our idiocy is contagious.”
Chris smiled. “So, you living here, is that a permanent thing?”
Zoey nodded, “I think it’s going to be. You know, until I get married-no until I’m twenty one. Maybe Twenty-five.” She shrugged. “Why? You don’t like this idea of me moving in and having to see me more than usual?”
“No, I was just curious that’s all.” A slight pause came between the two. “I’m sorry for the way I acted a couple of days ago.”
Zoey smiled, “That’s alright. Every one has their biotchy days."
Zoey made to hug him, but Chris moved back. Zoey nodded, “Not on a hugging level yet. Perfectly understandable. Truce?"
Chris nodded, “Truce.” The two shook.

Chapter Four
“Hey Chris, what are you doing here?” Piper asked as she walked into the attic with a couple of clothes in her hands. It was now in the evening and the manor had been empty, only Piper and Wyatt were there.
“Just researching,” the white lighter replied not taking his off the Book of Shadows.
“Researching another demon?” Piper asked putting the clothes into a box.
“No, the engine on my Mercedes.”
Piper sighed, “You know Chris, it wouldn’t hurt to go out once in a while. Or hang out with a certain girl.”
“I don’t need to go out, what I need is to figure out what demons are most likely to attack Wyatt. And Zoey and I are just friends.”
Piper nodded, “You’ve done a lot for my son since you’ve been back but you’re just using it as a way to avoid it.”
Chris looked at Piper curiously, “Avoid what?”
Piper laughed and morphed into Bianca, “Me. You haven’t forgotten about me, have you baby?”
“Bianca, how? It was a dream.” Chris asked walking towards her.
“So you only wish to see me in your dreams then?” She asked coldly.
“No, I didn’t-”
“Shh…” She kissed his lips passionately. “You need to remember why you’re here.” She grabbed his hand; the engagement ring was on her left ring finger. Chris glanced at it and she smiled. “You want to come back to me don’t you? So that we can get married and start on our own future?”
Chris nodded, “It’s just been taking longer than I’ve expected. I miss you Bianca.”
Her face grew cruel. “Do you? Because it doesn’t seem that way.” She held her waved her hand in front of her face.
Chris stepped back, “Zoey?”
“Isn’t this what you want?” she said stepping close to him. She smiled and ran her fingers through her hair. “Of course she is, isn’t she?”
“Bianca, why are you doing this?”
“Because I only want to make you happy baby,” she replied and licked his lips. “You know this witch wasn’t what she is today.” She stepped back and morphed back into her normal self again. “I’ll be seeing you lover.”
“Bianca,” Chris woke up with a start; Phoebe was peering down at him.
“Are you alright? You were having a bad dream.”
Chris looked around the attic. “I must have fallen asleep,” he said rubbing his eyes.
“You miss her, don’t you?” Phoebe said quietly. “Chris, we can talk if you want. I know how hard it is to lose the one you love.”
“I have to go.”
On his way down stairs, he ran into Piper. “Chris, what are you still doing here? It’s eleven thirty.”
“Yeah, sorry. I was busy researching. ‘Night.”
When he opened the door he came face to face with Zoey who had her key sticking in the door knob. “Oh hey Chris,” she said tiredly, still wearing her short black apron from the coffee shop.
Chris rushed passed her as quick as he could.
“Well, a simple, you look like crap, would do,” she mumbled then closed the door.

Chapter four
It was the next day in the morning and Paige, Piper, and Phoebe were sipping their coffee in the kitchen and just chatting with each other.
“Have you two noticed anything…different about Chris the past two weeks?” Piper asked.
“You know,” Paige said placing her mug on the counter, “he has been more-what’s the word I’m looking for?”
“Neurotic; moody; pissy; biotchy; demanding; should I continue?” Phoebe said. The sisters laughed. “No seriously,” Phoebe continued. “He’s been thinking about Bianca.”
“How do you know that’s it?” Paige asked.
“Last night he was asleep in the attic when I came in. He was calling out her name.”
The three were silent for a moment.
“He really loved her and they were engaged,” Piper said. “I know how he feels, how it feels to lose a loved one.”
“Maybe we should give him time off,” Paige suggested.
“More like force him to take time off,” Phoebe said.
“Or just send him somewhere,” Piper suggested. “You know, so that he can relax.”
Paige snickered, “I’m sorry, it’s just- I could’ve sworn you said Chris and relax.”
Piper shook her head.
****
“All done,” Zoey said getting out from under the desk. She pressed a button on her computer and waited. The screen turned on and Zoey smiled a smile of achievement.
“So this is where my AFI c.d. had been,” Jake said then continued to go through the large box of c.d. that Zoey had not put away.
“So Adam tells me that you asked Nora out,” Zoey said taking a seat next to Jake on her bed.
“Yeah, Jake said nervously getting up and walking towards the stairs.
“So, where are you taking her out? The mall? I’m sure she’d like that, and so would her daddy’s credit card.”
“I asked her out on a double date to go to the fair that’s in town.”
“A double date, whom with?”
“Uh, you.” Jake ran up the stairs.
“Jake!” Zoey yelled running after him.
“Hey Jake, what’s up?” Phoebe said as he came running out of the basement.
“I have to leave, nice seeing you all.” He ran out of the kitchen.
“What was that all about?” Paige wondered.
“Who knows, those two are weird,” Piper said.
“Where is he?” Zoey demanded. She didn’t wait for an answer but left the kitchen. “Jacob Dean McKenzie, get back here!”
Jake stopped in his tracks and turned to face her. “Zoey, please do this for me; I really like Nora.”
“Just tell me you didn’t set me up with anyone.”
“I didn’t, you pick who to go with.” He smiled a goofy smile, “Please Zo, if you care about me.”
Zoey sighed, “Damn your goofy smile. You owe me.”
Jake hugged her, “You’re the best.”
“I know I am,” she replied.
**** Chris came down the basement stairs.
“Oh geeze!” Zoey exclaimed as she quickly grabbed her white blouse to cover her pink bra; she had been in the middle of changing out of her work shirt.
“Sorry, I-I was…” Chris stuttered.
“Well turn around,” Zoey said impatiently.
Chris nodded and did as he was told. He smiled to himself when his back was to her.
Zoey slipped into her green t-shirt, “You can look now,” she said and walked over to her blue hamper and placed the white blouse in it.
“Sorry, again,” Chris said.
Zoey nodded, “Just knock next time, ok?”
Chris nodded and walked over to a shelf in the back of the basement and picked up a small old wooden box.
“What is that for?” Zoey asked eyeing the box curiously while tying her hair into a bun.
“Don’t know; it belonged to the sisters’ grams. Piper wanted it,” he explained.
Zoey nodded. “Chris, what are you doing tonight?”
“I don’t know, why?”
“I was wondering if you’d like to go to the fair with me; see, Jake asked this girl out on a double date and I was suckered into it. I need someone to go with. It’s not a date that I’m asking you on, more of a ‘let’s hang out’ type of invite. I’m asking as a friend. What do you say?”
“Yeah, I don’t know,” Chris began.
“Too bad, I’ve just decided that I’m not taking no for an answer. It will be fun, besides, it’s not like I’m asking you to get married. Be here at six.” She was about to walk away. “OH yeah, um, is there something I should know about the basement?”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s hard to explain,” she replied. “It’s- there’s something in it, in the air. Here, I’ll show you.” She walked over to a place in the center of the room. “Come here.”
Chris walked over to her and she grabbed his hand.
“Ok, close your eyes.” He gave her a look. “Just do it.”
Chris closed his eyes and she did the same. She held out her free hand with her palm facing downward.
Chris moved slightly. He had never felt anything like that before. It was as if the air had suddenly changed and became calm. The air was full of something, of power.
“Did you feel that?” she asked letting go of his hand.
“Yeah, that must be the nexus. It’s a power source that the house was built upon.” Zoey nodded. “How did you do that? Let me feel that?”
“A new trick I picked up,” Zoey replied simply. “Kind of cool huh, how you’re able to channel what I felt in the air.”
“Yeah,” Chris replied. “Anyways, see you later.”
End of chapter four

Chapter five
Paige was busy in the kitchen pouring the extra melted butter over the already buttered popcorn when Piper came in.
“Alright, Wyatt’s with Leo for the night and I got the junk food. Candy, ice cream, soda, cheetos, freetos- the whole eetos family for chips.”
“Mmm, popcorn,” Zoey said ask she entered the kitchen. She reached to grab popcorn but Paige hit her hand.
“Adults only,” Paige teased.
“You’re mean.”
“I’ve got the movies,” Phoebe said running in. “Do you know that this is the first time in a long while that we’ve had girls’ night in?”
“It has been a while, hasn’t it?” Piper said.
The others nodded.
“Hey, how’d you’d get Chris to go, he’s usually a stick in the mud about these things,” Paige commented.
“I told him I wasn’t taking no for an answer,” Zoey replied.
Just then Chris orbed in.
“Are you going to have fun tonight?” Paige teased.
“If it will make you all happy,” Chris replied sarcastically.
“He’ll have fun, if he doesn’t, we can always scare the kids in the fun house.”
“Zoey that’s cruel,” Phoebe said with a slight smile.
“Cruel but entertaining.” A car horn honked. “Let’s go- oh wait,” she said. She fixed Chris’ collar then grabbed his hand and lead him out of the kitchen.
“Party time,” Paige said.
****
The place was all lit up with lights and crowded by tons of people who had come out to enjoy the fair. Kids were screaming and running around; couples walked hand in hand. Everyone’s childish side came out. Screams could be heard from the rides that ran fast and went upside down.
Zoey bent over to retrieve the yellow tickets that she received from playing ski ball. “I love ski ball,” she said as she began to count the tickets.
Chris smiled as he slid his last ball up the ramp. “It sure gives a lot of tickets,” he said collecting the yellow stubs.
“All the more to spend,” Zoey replied. “So, where were we?”
“I believe we were talking about how Ferris Builer’s day off was the best movie of all time,” Chris answered as he slipped more coins into the ski ball machine.
“Right, that was your question, now it’s my turn.” she slid a wooden ball up the ramp. “Favorite band.”
Chris thought for a moment. “Metallica,” he said finally.
“Metallica?” Zoey repeated with a hint of disgust in her voice.
“What’s wrong with Metallica?” Chris asked looking at her.
“Nothing, I just find them annoying. Carry on.”
Chris studied her for a moment before speaking. “As I was saying, I like Metallica, Depeche Mode, the Clash, and Cold Play.”
“I love those bands, with the exception of Metallica of course,” Zoey said. “What about the Smashing Pumpkins?”
“They’re good too; how about Green Day?”
Zoey smiled, “My favorite band. I love ‘Basket Case.’”
“Really? I’m more for the song ‘Brain Stew.’”
“See, this is fun. I’m finding things out about you and you’re finding out things about me. One question, if you can answer it. Are there good bands in-”
“Yeah, but I can’t say who.”
“OH thank goodness. I thought I’d end up raising children who’d listen to really bad techno music.”
Chris smiled and collected more tickets.
Jake approached them, “How’s it going?” Zoey asked.
“It’s going great actually. Why don’t we split up for a while?”
Zoey nodded and looked at her watch, “That’s cool; meet back here at eleven?”
“Agreed,” Jake said then left.
“That gives us three more hours. What do you want to do?”
Chris shrugged then grinned, “How about bumper cars?”
Zoey smiled, “I would love to.”
end of chapter five

Chapter six
Piper wiped her eyes with the tips of her fingers. “You’re such a sap,” Paige teased.
“I can’t help it when it comes to these movies,” Piper explained. “Damn the English Patient.”
The three sisters laughed. “Ok, what’s next?” Paige asked.
“A tale about marriage and death,” Phoebe hinted as she got up to pop the tape into the VCR. “Four Weddings and a Funeral.”
Paige smiled, “I’ll get some more ice cream.” As soon as she started to make her way to the kitchen, the lights flickered then went out.
“Ah crap!” Phoebe exclaimed. “I’ll check the fuse box,” Paige said going into the kitchen.
*****
“Always with bumper cars does the line have to be so long,” Zoey commented as the long line inched forward.
Chris sighed, “Let’s find something else to do.”
“Are you sure?” Zoey asked.
“I don’t know about you but I don’t want to stand here forever.”
“Ditto, let’s go.”
All of a sudden thunder boomed in the distance and it began to rain lightly.
“This is totally bizarre weather, it was a perfect day earlier,” Zoey commented as she put her hair into a bun.
The rain soon began to pour harder.
“Step right up and prepare to be afraid!” a man dressed in a black velvet cloak said in front of a wooden board with pictures of ghosts and witches on it. Chris and Zoey were passing the haunted house when the man called out to them. “You two there, come and be frightened. The house will send chills down your spines and make your blood run cold!”
Zoey looked skeptically at the man. “No thanks.”
Chris and she began to walk away. “Zoey, Chris check it out!” Jake’s voice called out to them from inside the haunted house.
Chris looked at Zoey, “How bad can it be?” The two entered the haunted house.
The cloaked man smiled viciously to himself and placed an under construction tape over the entrance. He blinked out.
****
The light from Paige’s flashlight began to flicker, casting bits of light around the pitch black basement. Paige groaned and began to make her way up the stairs.
“Well?” asked Piper who was holding up a lit candle.
Phoebe came in behind her with a book of matches, “All the candles down here are lit,” she informed.
“The power is completely out, I tried just about everything with the fuse box,” Paige said.
Thunder boomed. “What is up with this weather?” Phoebe said.
“I don’t know but I think I’m going to call Richard and check up on him.” Paige walked out into the living room and picked up the phone. “The phone’s dead,” she announced.
Phoebe checked her cell. “It must be this freak storm; there’s no range.”
Thunder boomed loudly and the house lit up momentarily by the flash of lightning. A loud crash came from upstairs.
“What was that?” Paige asked.
“Sounds like it came from the attic,” Piper said.
“Well go check it out Paige,” Phoebe said.
“What- why me?”
“Because you have the best power and you’re the youngest,” Piper explained.
Phoebe nodded, “Rules are rules.”
Paige glared at them and began to make her way up the stairs. Thunder boomed again. Paige turned around and ran back down stairs. “You both come with me.”
“But- oh alright,” Phoebe said.
When the three entered the attic, they saw that the potion table had been knocked over along with the stand that held the Book of Shadows.
“That’s strange,” Paige commented.
“What is?” Piper asked bending over to pick up the Book of Shadows.
“The window’s not open,” Paige pointed out.
“Does anyone else feel that?” Phoebe asked glancing around the attic.
“Feel what?” Piper asked.
“The sudden drop in temperature,” Phoebe replied.
The room got colder; vapor soon was coming out in puffs as each sister exhaled. The glass on the windows soon froze up. Suddenly a pounding sound could be heard.
“That can’t be good,” Phoebe said.
Piper began walking closer to the wall. “I think it’s coming from inside the wall,” she said pressing her ear against it to listen. She heard the pounding more loudly and clearly now. Suddenly the attic was quiet. The flames of the candles went out.
“Ok, what the hell is going on?” Paige said glancing around cautiously.
The temperature became colder. The sisters shuddered.
Suddenly the flames of the candles lit up again. The candle light flickered off the walls and the faces of the sisters.
“Um, what is that?” Phoebe asked pointing to the wall.
The others looked to where she was pointing; a large shadow of mountains was on the wall. The pounding from the wall was back again. The sisters watched as more shadows began to form on the walls around them.
“I don’t know but let’s get out of here,” Phoebe said. She ran to the door but it wouldn’t open. “Paige try the window.”
Paige ran up to the windows, “Their frozen shut.” She tried to orb but couldn’t. “I can’t orb.”
“I don’t like this. Not at-”
“Piper, what is it?” Phoebe asked. She didn’t need her older sister to answer her, for she saw it herself. The walls burned in brilliantly lit hand writing.
“In the beginning of the time of magic,” Paige began to read. “Before the witches and wizards, and before the demons and warlocks, there were the Ancients. Only four were born of the blessed blood, and were soon to be the ones to create the world that is now.”
The shadows on the wall showed the four humans on the wall. Two were clearly female and the other two were male. Now on the wall along with them, were other humans chasing the Ancients. The words burned out and new ones appeared.
“Being what they were,” Phoebe read, “humans feared them and set out to kill them. Knowing that taking the lives of the innocent was not an option, the Ancients fled and took shelter in the mountains which offered them protection from the outside world.”
Again the shadows on the wall changed. This time showing one of the women and men on opposite sides of the cave. The two seemed to be conversing with each other. The words in the flames died in a cloud of smoke and then new ones took their place, burning more brightly than ever.
“After years of living in isolation, Ima and Ronan thought that the Ancients should force the mortals to warship them seeing as they were above them,” Piper read. “Of course Nila and Azar saw this as an abuse of their power and were against the idea. Thus dividing the great powers.”
End of chapter six

Chapter seven
“Maybe they already went out,” Chris said.
“Yeah, maybe. Let’s go,” Zoey said turning to leave.
Chris grabbed her arm, “You’re not scared, are you?” he teased.
Zoey glared at him and yanked her arm away from him. “NO…just creeped out a bit,” she said looking around. The black lighting caused the pieces of white on their clothes and shoes to become almost neon like. There were mirrors that distorted your image placed here and there, fake cobwebs, skeletons, spiders, and a clown with razor sharp looking teeth.
“You are scared,” Chris said with a sly smile.
“It’s that damn clown; I hate clowns, they’re creepy and homicidal looking.”
Chris laughed; he couldn’t believe that she was afraid of clowns even though there were far worse things out there.
“Shh!” Zoey said suddenly turning her back to him. “Did you hear that?”
Chris smiled mischievously and walked silently away from her. “Chris?” Zoey said turning around. Chris was nowhere to be seen. “Chris?” She began walking and squinting her eyes in the dark to see if he was way up ahead of her. Chris snuck up behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder and growled.
Zoey gasped and jumped. Chris burst out laughing, Zoey glared daggers at him. “Damn it Christopher!” Zoey said and hit him in the arm.
“I couldn’t help it,” Chris replied still laughing.
Zoey shook her head at him, still glaring.
“Zoey, I’m sorry.”
Zoey turned away from him and he stepped in front of her. “Zoey I promise I won’t do that again,” he said holding her arms; he smiled guiltily.
Zoey smiled, “I forgive you, but I probably would’ve done the same to you.” He laughed and hugged her, then quickly realizing what he had just done let go of her. She looked up at him and the two locked eyes for a moment. “Are we on the hugging level now?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” he replied. “I’m not the hugging type. Let’s go.”
The two walked down the long darkly lit corridor. A pregnant silence held the both of them for a few moments.
“Can I ask you something? It’s a bit personal,” he asked suddenly.
“Yeah, shoot.”
“You’re wrist, why did you do that?”
Zoey hesitated before answering. “It was a long time ago, and life sucked big time. I thought- I don’t do that anymore.”
Chris nodded and stopped walking. “Um, if you ever want to talk- which I’m sure you already talk with Jake- you can talk to me. If you want to that is of course.”
Zoey smiled faintly, “I’ll keep that in mind.”
Chris nodded and turned towards the door. “That’s weird, I could have sworn this is where the entrance was,” Chris said. He walked up to the hall and began feel for the door. “It was right here,” he said.
Zoey looked around, “Let’s try the exit.”
Chris nodded and the two made their way through the haunted house. They had only walked a little while when Zoey stopped Chris. “What is it?” he asked.
Zoey pointed to an empty indented wall.
“What, I don’t see anything.”
“That’s because the clown isn’t there anymore,” Zoey said quietly.
“How’s that possible? That’s like saying it just-” he stumbled backwards. A giant black spider the size of a baseball was coming down from the ceiling. Zoey’s eyes widened, she tried to send it away with her wind power but nothing happened.
“You try,” she said.
Chris tried but nothing worked. The spider was now on the ground and began crawling towards them.
“Step on it!” Zoey yelled. The two began trying to squash the spider; finally Zoey smashed it with the heel of her blue and white converse sneaker. Green blood oozed out of it. “Eww.”
“Is it just me or was that once plastic?” Chris said.
“It’s not you, which means that the clown’s-” a hideous laughter echoed from somewhere in the haunted house. Zoey gulped, “is alive.”
“Let’s get out of here,” Chris said and grabbed her hand.
“What’s wrong?” Zoey asked.
“I can’t orb,” Chris replied.
Zoey closed her eyes then opened them. “I can’t shimmer.”
The two began walking cautiously down the dark corridor, passing the mirrors that distorted the figures of their bodies. Chris looked around cautiously and when he looked back Zoey was gone.
“Zoey? Zoey!” Chris said in a panicked voice. He continued calling out her name and whipped around all of a sudden. He heard footsteps from behind him but nothing was there. A shadowed figure stepped out behind him.
“There you are, for a moment there I thought you were gone,” he said sighing with relief at the sight of Zoey.
“You have nothing to worry about.”
Chris nodded, “Good, now let’s get out of here.”
Zoey grabbed his hand, and pulled him closer to her and kissed him passionately. Chris pulled away, “Zoey what-”
“I thought you would’ve liked that,” she said and morphed into Bianca.
“Bianca? But this isn’t a dream.”
She smiled viciously, “Surprised to see me?” she asked coldly.
“I don’t understand, how-”
“Because I need you with me and the only way to make sure you and I can be together is if she dies.”
Chris shook his head, “You wouldn’t do that. She’s an innocent.”
“I wouldn’t?” Bianca laughed, “She’s not so innocent if she’s after my guy, besides she’s still-”
“That was a different time,” Chris stated.
“Why are you defending her?” Bianca demanded. “She’s what’s keeping us from being together, what’s keeping us from helping out future. You would know that if you weren’t too busy being tender with her. She’s made you soft, you’re a failure.”
Chris made a move to fun but he was knocked off his feet by Bianca. She laughed and her eyes became black. Chris looked at her with shocked eyes.
“What’s the matter white lighter? Feeling guilty for letting the image of your late girlfriend fool you?” it said in a deep harsh voice. “Let her die white lighter or better yet, let me use her. Besides, you know she’s not supposed to be here.”
Chris tried to get up but the thing slammed him into a giant spider’s web. It laughed and disappeared in a puff of black smoke.

Chapter eight
“…and so the underworld came to be,” Paige finished.
“What is this all supposed to mean?” Piper said. “Why are we seeing this?”
“I don’t know,” Phoebe said, and then she began to read the new words. “With two worlds existing in one, good and evil was not strong enough to overthrow one another. So came the birth of the witches, wizards, warlocks and demons.”
Again the flaming words changed and the shadows on the wall painted new pictures, this time of demons and witches.
“From the unholy grounds of where the palace of Ronan lay, the Lazareth demon was born. From the air Tempus was born, for air can with stand all of time in any measure,” Paige read. She groaned, “Man, this is like history class; I hated history.”
With a sigh Piper continued reading the inscription, “Born of that of Nila and Azar, the first witch and wizard came to be. From Ima and Ronan, the first of warlocks and wicked witches came. Soon both good and evil began building up their sides, determined to wipe their enemy out.”
“Except it was all foiled when the Greek Gods and Goddesses came to power. Now both sides were twice as powerful and the wars that raged between good and evil soon began taking the lives of the innocent,” Phoebe read. “A grand battle lay ahead of them, and it was sensed by both sides.”
The shadows displayed images of carnage and wars. Graphic scenes of murders and the failures of each side. Soon the shadows shifted and the good and the bad Ancients stood in a prepared attack form on opposite sides.
“Soon the Battle of the Greats began. Ancient versus Ancient; a battle that would determine the dominion of either good or evil,” Paige read. The shadows began to play out the war. Each Ancient going against each other. “The battle lasted 100 years and finally ended with the fall of all the Ancients.”
“The underworld moved beneath the earth while the good dedicated their lives to fighting evil and protecting the lives of the innocent.”
****
“Chris!” Zoey whispered loudly as she entered another hall of mirrors. A dozen other Zoey’s walked around the hall. Zoey held her arms out in front of her and felt her way for the nearest entrance to the next hall. She thought she had found one but instead walked into a clear plastic wall. “Ow,” she said rubbing her nose.
The hideous laughter echoed from someplace near by; it sent chills down her spine.
“Ok Zoey,” she said to herself. “You can do this. The thing is not to panic.”
The laughter was heard again only it was much closer than before.
“Ok, panicking now.” Zoey turned and began to run down the hall of mirrors, smacking into plastic wall here and there. She stopped at a dead end and gasped. In the mirror she saw the clown; its wild yellow eyes with the black pupils slit like that of a cat, its razor sharp teeth and vicious smile.
Zoey turned and faced it. “It’s not real,” she kept saying to herself.
The clown lunged at her with a knife in hand. Zoey screamed.
Chris was still trying to free himself from the super sticky web when he heard her scream. Thoughts began to race wildly through his mind. It’s his fault if she dies. Is it the clown or the thing that looks like Bianca? Chris tried more violently than before to get out of the web. He couldn’t let her die. He finally yanked himself free, falling to the ground, scrapping his knees. He quickly got up and began running in search for Zoey.
Zoey was running hunched over with her hand on her right leg; the clown had stabbed her in the thigh. Tears were streaming down her cheeks. She turned around the corner only to come face to face with the clown. It laughed hideously and slashed her stomach. Zoey screamed again as she stumbled backwards. The clown came forward and Zoey managed to kick him back, causing him to fall. Zoey turned and ran as fast as she possibly could.
Chris turned the corner and came into a hall that was made to look like a mausoleum. Several stone coffins lay about the hall. A weird fluttering sound, like wings beating against the air, filled the room. A screeching noise came from above. Chris looked up and when he did, a swarm of bats swooped down. Chris shielded his head with his arms and dropped to the floor. The loud screeching of the bats echoed and bounced of the walls. The bats circled the hall and flew out.
Chris got up slowly and looked around the place. He heard another sound, except this one was quiet and sounded as if it were coming from one of the deep stone coffins. Looking around, Chris found a piece of broken wood and picked it up. He walked over to where the sound was coming from. Chris slowly removed the heavy lid and found Zoey curled up under a tattered old blanket.
“Zoey?” Chris said.
Zoey turned and looked at him, “Chris?” She sat up with a struggle; her body was shaking.
“Oh geeze,” he said noticing the blood stained pink top and the deep red stain on the right thigh of her pale blue jeans. “Easy, come on,” Chris said as he helped her out of the coffin.
Zoey gasped in pain and held on tightly to Chris. “I thought you were- I couldn’t find you and- and…” she hugged him. She was still shaking.
Chris patted her back, “I’m here now, what happened? Who attacked you?”
Zoey gasped.
“Zoey I need to…Zoey?”
She had pulled away from him. “The clown, it’s behind you,” she whispered, her eyes wide with fear.
Chris’ heart was beating fast; he turned around slowly and came face to face with the clown. The clown grinned and morphed into Bianca. “Why are you protecting her Chris?” Bianca demanded.
Zoey looked on with fear and confusion in her eyes.
“You’re not Bianca,” Chris said firmly.
“Aren’t I? Chris, you promised that you’d come back to me; you asked me to marry you.”
Chris glanced at Zoey out of the corner of his eye. She was slowly backing away.
“Don’t you remember? You promised me, and I said that I would be your wife.” Bianca glared at him, “Let me get rid of her Chris, we both know she wasn’t supposed to be here; that’s not what was written in the history books. She’s changing the timeline.”
Chris shook his head, “No, she has nothing to do with what we want.”
Bianca smiled slyly, “If you won’t get out of my way, I’ll have no choice but to move you.”
Bianca dropped kicked Chris causing him to fly across the room. Chris smacked into a stone coffin. Bianca disappeared in a cloud of smoke and re-appeared in front of Zoey. She grabbed Zoey’s throat, “I’ll make it quick, and you won’t feel a thing.” Bianca’s eyes began to glow red and Zoey’s had done the same.
“No!” Chris said and knocked Bianca out of the way. Zoey fell to the ground but before Chris could check to see if she was alright, Bianca punched him in stomach. Her fist went through him and soon she began to drain his life force. “She’s the one that will end us!” Chris fell to his knees. “You think you know her but you haven’t even begun to know what she is.”
Zoey picked up a piece of broken wood and shoved it through Bianca’s back. Bianca let out a scream and let go of Chris. Bianca backed away, “Chris.” She burst into flames.
Zoey fell to her knees. Chris rushed over to her and tried helping her up. She yanked her arm away from him, “Don’t touch me,” she said through gritted teeth.
“Zoey you’re hurt, let me-”
“Don’t touch me!”
“I’m only trying to help you,” Chris said.
“Help me?!” she exclaimed. “How are you going to help me, by sending another plastic gone homicidal clown on me?”
“What- you’re blaming all this on me?”
“Yeah…that thing, she knew you. She talked to you about things, how you’re-”
“That was evil speaking,” Chris explained.
“You knew who she was, how does evil know about you and her if you two are both from the future?”
“I-I don’t know, but Zoey,” he placed his hands on her arms. She tried to get away but he wouldn’t let go. “Zoey, I wouldn’t hurt you,” he said gently.
Zoey looked away from him, “Maybe, but then again it might be the other way around; after all, you don’t even know who I am. I don’t even know who I am anymore.”
Chris sighed, “Zoey, evil will say anything that will confuse truth and lies. You can’t let it get to you.”
Zoey looked into his eyes, “Am I supposed to be here?”
Chris let go of her and looked away.
Zoey grabbed his face with her hands and turned him to face her. “Look me in the eye and answer me.”
Chris locked eyes with her. “No, there wasn’t anything in the books that spoke of you being with the Charmed Ones.”
Zoey let go of him. “I want to go home.”
End of chapter eight

Chapter nine
“What just happened?” Paige asked. All the lights in the house had gone back on and the shadow pictures and the flaming words had disappeared.
“I don’t know,” Piper said. She picked up a potion vile and threw it in the air and froze it. “Guess all the power’s back.”
“Yeah but I still don’t get the whole picture book show on the wall,” Phoebe said.
“Neither do I,” Paige agreed. “We’ll let Leo and Chris in on it when we see them.”
“Now what?” Phoebe asked.
“How about getting out of the attic for starters,” Piper said. “I think my butt flattened completely from the hours spent sitting on this floor.”
Paige and Phoebe laughed and followed their older sister out of the attic.
“Alright, see you later,” Jake said. “Bye,” Zoey said faintly.
After Jake drove off she sighed. “It’s been one hell of a night huh?”
Chris nodded. She had barely said a word since they left the fun house and he couldn’t tell how she was handling. He handed her a blue plastic bag. “I didn’t have many tickets but…yeah.”
Zoey reached into the bag and pulled out a golden brown teddy bear with a black nose and navy blue satin like bow tie. She smiled faintly, “Thank you.”
“So, how was the fair?” Piper asked.
“It was…interesting,” Chris replied glancing at Zoey.
“I’m going to call it a night,” Zoey said. “See you in the morning.”
“Well, we had our own interesting night of our own,” Paige informed.
“Yeah, we were trapped in the attic with no powers,” Phoebe explained.
“What? Are you all alright?”
“Yeah we’re fine,” Piper said. “Have you heard of the Ancients?”
“Yeah, they're what started the whole line of magic. Why?”
“Well, while in the attic we saw a lovely picture show explaining the rise and fall of the Ancients. Don’t ask how because we’re not so sure ourselves,” Piper said.
“We think that maybe it’s a warning of something to come,” Paige said.
“But that’s impossible, the Ancients all died-”
“In the battle of the Greats,” Phoebe finished. “We know; it’s just maybe this is a warning that somehow ties into the whole council thing.”
“You mean like the council trying to resurrect the Ancients?” Chris said.
Phoebe shrugged, “Or that whatever they’re planning, it’s going to be bigger. Anyways we’ll talk about this tomorrow.”
“Hey, what’s wrong with Zoey?” Piper asked. “She seemed- different.”
“We were almost killed in a fun house,” Chris replied.
“What?”
“We’re fine though,” Chris said quickly. “It’s just I’m not sure about how well she is.”
“Meaning what?” Paige asked.
“Well the thing that attacked us looked a lot like Bianca, and talked like her.”
“Oh Chris, that must’ve been hard to see,” Phoebe said sympathetically.
Chris nodded, “Yeah, anyways, it knew things about me and about the future.”
“So you’re saying something came back from the future?” Paige said. “I thought that wasn’t possible since you brought back the time travel spell.”
“I don’t know how it got here but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that it told her things.”
“What kind of things?” Phoebe asked. “Chris?”
Chris sighed. “It told her that she’s not supposed to be here,” he said lowering his voice. “See, the history books didn’t mention Zoey under your care. In my time, she never lived with you.”
“Sow what are saying, that she didn’t exist?” Paige said.
“No, she did exist just-”
“Spill it Chris,” Piper demanded impatiently.
“In my time history shows that you weren’t able to sway her to our side; instead she chose evil.”
“Wait, you knew about Ronny and Summer’s murder and you didn’t say anything?” Phoebe said incredously.
“No, they weren’t murdered by Damien. They were supposed to live until around now when Damien would send one of his assassins out to kill them. Zoey stayed with Damien and eventually came to rule the Underworld.
“I don’t believe you,” Phoebe said. “Her heart’s pure.”
“It doesn’t matter if you believe me or not. Look the fact is that evil will keep coming for her and if we don’t stop it, we’ll lose her.”
“I thought you weren’t allowed to tell us what happens in the future,” Piper said looking at him suspiciously.
“I told you what happened in my past which has now changed obviously,” he pointed out. “It’s only a cautious warning of what might come.”
“I don’t understand,” Phoebe said. “There’s got to be more to it than her ruling the underworld. What aren’t you telling us about her?”
“I don’t know much about her, there wasn’t much on her printed in the books. The same way you didn’t know much about the Source.” Chris sighed and crossed his arms at his chest. “Listen, the point is we need to keep an eye out because whatever comes after her is most likely to go after Wyatt as well.”
****
Chris placed his keys on the night stand and sad down on his bed. He let out a deep sigh and opened the small drawer in the nightstand and took out a book along with some papers. He pulled out a small card sized envelope and opened it. He withdrew a women’s white gold diamond engagement ring. “Bianca,” he said staring at the ring. He had been so close to her but it wasn’t really her. He wanted to leave and see if the future had changed. He wanted to be with her; to kiss her and just hold her. He loved her and always would. Now things were becoming complicated. He couldn’t describe it in words and hardly in thoughts.
He knew that he could never try to start a new life because it would change the timeline. But he couldn’t help it. He liked hanging out with Zoey; she was like no one he had ever met before. He liked that she treated him like a friend and he liked hanging out with Jake. He felt as if he was being given the chance to catch up on all that he had missed out on in his time. He was able to laugh, to joke and to act like one of the guys. So far the whole consequences of changing the timeline had kept him from having fun.
All he did was work and fight for what was good. That’s mostly what he knew. Now things were changing, he was being invited to parties with out the fear of losing his life by some paranormal event. He was being pushed by Zoey constantly to loosen up. She was showing him the best that can come from life and he liked that.
He glanced down at the ring again. He loved Bianca. He still loved her.
