“Then she’s off for the rest for the semester cos this week is her last week in Uni. Until her exams.”<br>“Cool” Leo ended the conversation.
Class went by so quickly! Probably because Leo was staring at me all the way through! Amara thought.
She made her way home as soon as the bell rang and she had kissed Leo.

“I’m home!” She screamed at the top of her voice when she reached home
“Hallo” Amara’s mum greeted her.
“Hi mum. Dinner ready? Cos I’m so friggin’ tired!” Amara moaned.
“Get changed and come down quickly. We have a rishta coming for you. Hurry, I’ve left your clothes out” her mum told her.
Amara was gob smacked! “A rishta? For me?” she asked.
“Yep. Great guy though. Mum chose it” her mum informed.
No way! Amara thought. I can’t do this!
She ran to her room, and locked the door.
“Leo!” she bellowed at the top of her voice.
Leo orbed in just as Amara finished. “What’s wrong?” he asked, his face tensed
“My future in-laws are coming today! Mum’s found a guy for me.” Amara filled Leo in all he missed
“Amara, there’s something I need to tell you. I really like you. I want to marry you, I can’t bear to lose you” Leo explained.
“Likewise” Amara replied.
Her answers are either funny or short, Leo thought.
“You need to tell your mum” Leo said.
“Why can’t you?” Amara asked.
Leo orbed out as she finished her sentence.
“Chicken!” Amara exclaimed.
Amara ran down the stairs and got her mum alone.
“Mum there’s something you should know” Amara started off.
“Let me guess! You already have a guy in mind, and it’s not gonna be someone who is easy to get married to” her mum asked
“Spot on!” Amara replied.
“Who is he?” her mum asked
“Leo Wyatt, a Whitelighter in my Forensic class.” Amara answered.
“A Whitelighter. A gora.” Mum gave her the eye.
“Oh mum please! Stop being so narrow minded” Amara tried saying politely
“Whatever. You know you can’t marry him!” mum said
“Yeah but at least it’s better than what you are about to put me through” Amara answered back.
“Just get dressed,” Mum instructed
“Why!” Amara wailed

“The tea is wonderful,” a lady in a white suit said
“Yes it is” a man in a black pin stripe suit said
“So Amara tell me about you” the lady asked
“Erm... I’m a student at Manchester Met…. And I’m totally against this marriage!” Amara bellowed
“Amara!” Mum shrieked
“Yeah well it’s true!” Amara answered
“We don’t want a daughter in law who doesn’t respect her parents” the lady said
“Yeah well when it comes to this thing I’m totally against it!” Amara replied. “Get out! All of you!”
The guests mumbled something, which Amara didn’t catch.
“Amara that was completely out of order!” Mum and Gran bellowed
Amara ignored them and raced to her bedroom.
Since when have I had so much courage to stand up for myself, Amara thought
Since I met that guy.

Next day at Uni, Amara was eager to meet Leo. She saw him coming up and decided to be just friends.
“How’d it go last night?” Leo asked, kissing her softly.
“Really bad. I think I messed up for my family” Amara replied.
“That was bound to happen if you wanted your own way” Leo replied.
The bell rang for lessons.
“Let’s go and forget about this” Leo suggested.
“Okay” Amara agreed.

“Her life is being surrounded by obstacles” the Source said.
“What are we to do?” Oracle asked
“Sit back and watch” the Source replied

A couple of months later

The doorbell to 5Bloom St, Amara’s residence, rang.
“Yeah yeah coming!” Mum said
She opened the door
“Erm can I help you?” she asked
“I am here to see Amara’s mum,” a guy standing on the doorstep said,
“That’s me,” she said
“Can I come in? I have to ask you couple of things” he said
Amara’s mum moved to the side to let this gentleman in.
When they reached the living room, Amara’s mum offered the guy to take a seat.
“My name is Leo Wyatt. I am a friend from Amara’s class” Leo said
“How can I help you? Amara isn’t in at the moment” he mum replied
“It is you I have come to see.” Leo replied.
“I would like Amara’s hand in marriage.”<br>Amara’s mum was gob smacked
“You do know what you’re saying I hope” her mum replied.
“I do, and to tell you the truth, I do realise how hard this must be taking that I’m a…” Leo struggled. “A gora”<br>“I’m glad you understand my concern. I don’t see why not. I mean Amara isn’t going to marry anyone I bring so I’d leave her to her choice. Now when can you bring your parents in?” her mum asked
Leo gulped. “My parents died when I was young”<br>“Oh I’m sorry. Any guardians?” Her mum asked
“Sisters. Five of them. All married” Leo answered.
“Okay. Well I’ll get back to you on the arrangements once I’ve spoken to Amara” her mum replied
“Thanks very much. I really appreciate it” Leo said. “I’ll take your leave”

“Amara, hurry up. They’ll be here soon” Amara’s mum yelled
“Oh let them. I’ve already met them,” Amara yelled back.
Just as she finished, the doorbell rang.
“Welcome” Mum greeted.
There, at the doorstep, was Piper, Prue, Phoebe, and Paige carrying bouquets of flowers. Behind them, were Cole, Shane, Jeremy, Leo and Andy carrying gifts and chocolates.
“Please have a seat.” Amara’s mum gestured
“Hi” Amara greeted.
“Hi” everyone greeted. The girls got up and hugged Amara.
“Right lets get on with this ceremony and get the wedding on the road.” Piper spoke up.
“I take it you’re the eldest” Mum asked Piper
“Actually Prue is” Piper replied
They did the ring ceremony and the exchange of gifts and soon everything was quite again. The guests had left and Amara and her mum were making their way up to their rooms
“Wow I never thought I’d see the day,” her mum said
“You took the words right out of my mouth” Amara replied

The last few months of the Uni flew by. Amara and Leo met everyday outside Amara’s locker and they’d find a way out for a quick kiss.
Days turned into weeks and soon the day to the wedding came close.
Amara’s family gave off Dohlki nights every night leading to the henna night. A night full of music and dances. Friends and family practice dances and music competitions for the henna night of the opposite party.

While Amara’s family is having music and dances in their house, things were going nearly as smooth for Leo and the rest of the gang.
“But what if she doesn’t want to be a Whitelighter when she’s married to one? And nor a witch or part of the Charmed cycle? And what if the Elders don’t grant her the powers?” Paige blubbered out question after question.
“Paige they will. She will. She’ll take her powers.” Leo tried to sound convincing. The truth was, even Leo didn’t know if Amara would accept her role as a Charmed one.
“Have you even spoken to her about her powers?” Shane asked.
“No” Leo answered.
“Leo, to all due respect, you should have spoken to her about her powers at least. Just so long she knows what she’s getting herself into.” Cole said politely
“I’ll speak to her. Phone or face to face?” Leo asked
“Everyone in favour of Leo asking face to face say aye” Phoebe spoke up.
“Aye,” Everyone said
“Sorted,” Prue finished the conversation.

“Amara I need to speak to,” Leo said the next day at uni.
“You’re speaking now,” Amara said
“It’s about our wedding and what happens after that” Leo tried to explain
Oh just tell me that it’s off, Amara thought.
“Shoot” Amara instructed
“Right you know like I’m a Whitelighter,” Leo started. “You’re going to get powers of your own, powers of a Whitelighter and powers to freeze time, telekinesis, premonitions and to orb objects or people.” Leo looked at Amara
“Erm… I take it that that all the powers of the girls combined?” Amara asked
“You got it in one” Leo answered.
“Erm.. What if I don’t want the powers? I mean I do want them but I’m just asking.” Amara asked
“Then the Charmed cycle will never be completed, and you’ll be too vulnerable.” Leo said
“Fair enough. When do I get them?” Amara asked.
“When we’re married, we’ll be called to the heavens and the elders will put you through a series of tests to test your knowledge on the craft and liability of using your powers.” Leo explained.
I wish I never asked, Amara thought.
“Okey dokey” Amara replied.

“Well she took it well,” Leo said on the phone to girls. He had gone straight back to his room and rang the girls. Lucky for him, each one of them picked up the phone from different floors. “She took it really well. Your cycle will be completed and we’ll be married. Three things for the price of one”<br>“Wow, I didn’t expect it to go so well” Piper said.
“Nor did I,” Leo replied.
“When is the wedding?” Phoebe asked
“Tomorrow” Leo replied

“Master! The cycle is getting powerful” Oracle informed
“No worries, Oracle. You power of foresight will not betray us. If what you have seen is true, the witch to be will not borne a child,” the Source replied
How can he be so….normal? Oracle thought.

“Amara you look gorgeous!!” Yaya, Amara’s little sister said.
“Are you sure? I mean I don’t have too much make up on do I? You know how I like it,” Amara asked
“You look fine. Look,” Yaya gave Amara a hand-held mirror. She saw herself in it. She had a light shade of brown eye shadow on and a thin layer of brown eyeliner. Her lips were a shade of brown with a dark brown outline. Her dress was red with gold embroidery on it. She had a duppata on her head. She had it pinned to avoid from keep dropping.
Her jewellery was so lovely and light. A gold jewellery set with a pair of long earrings and long and short necklaces. Bangles made of solid gold, one on each wrist and a pair of red and gold glittery bangles on each arm up to half of the arm.
“Why are you wearing brown everything?” Adam, her brother asked.
“‘Cos I like brown. Blends in with the skin” Amara replied
“‘Blends with the skin’” Adam mimicked
“Okay come on” Mum urged.
Amara’s sister helped her down the stairs into the car.
Soon they were at the hotel and everybody was seated. Most of the younger girls were getting ready for Leo’s side of the party to come. Most of Amara’s friends were dressed in similar kind of clothes; some wore trouser suits, some wore slim skirts with embroidery.
“They’re here!!” Someone screamed
“Bring on the music!” Adam said
Amara’s mum, her gran and other older relatives made their way to front entrance of the hotel.
They greeted Leo and his family; the girls, their husbands and Leo.
Leo was dressed in a black suite with lilac shirt and purple tie.
Piper, Prue, Paige and Phoebe were dressed in trouser suits like most of the other girls, in different shades of blue, with matching blue bangles and embossed shoes. They were trying to fit into the atmosphere and they fitted quite well seeing as thought they were light tanned skinned which made them look like Asians.
As Leo and the rest made their way through, mum and all the elders of Amara’s family presented garments of flowers to Leo, the girls and their husbands. By that time Amara’s friends who were the confetti girls had started sprinkling them with confetti. By the time they all entered the main hall, they were full of confetti and wearing garments of flowers. As soon as Leo stepped into the hall he felt nauseous feeling in his throat. He looked back at the girls and their husbands and they had the same feelings. Obviously they had never been to an Asian wedding! The hall was full of people. The stage was decorated with balloons and decorations.
But something is missing, Leo thought. Where the hell is my wife!
“Right girls, show our guests towards the stage and then we’ll get Amara ready.” Amara’s mum suggested.
The girls made their way to the stage with the guests and had them seated.
Amara’s mum went over to the VIPs table, which was reserved for Amara’s closest friends: Lucy, Kirsty, Rachel, Sadia, Zo, Sarah, Sam, Christian, Mo, Neil and Mo. Unfortunately Nosheen couldn’t come as she was still ill and Amara didn’t fancy calling Hasan or the Evil Twins.
“It’s probably best if you see Amara’s in-laws now before it gets too crowded.” She suggested.
“We’d like that thanks” Lucy spoke up.
Amara’s mum showed them the way. They all stood to follow her.
They greeted Leo and his family. They presented him with presents and asked a couple of how-did-you-meet-Amara questions. And he asked how-do-you-know Amara questions.
They spent about ½ an hour talking and then they decided to leave, leaving their word that they’ll come back.
When they left, the holy priest came to do the nikkah which was a ceremony confirm that both the groom and bride where happy with the arrangement.
Leo was then asked to sign the marriage certificate and once he did that all the males form his side and Amara’s family congratulated him.
The priest moved onto Amara who was seated in a different room.
The same procedure was taken and then a prayer was read and the renunciation of what was being given to Amara from her family as part of the dowry. Then Amara signed the certificate and everyone started preparing to bring Amara out into the main hall.
Outside it had been announced that Amara and Leo had both agreed to the wedding. There were wild cheers from Amara’s VIPs and close family members.
The dinner was started to be served when Adam announced that Amara was being brought out and so everyone please stand up and cheer on.
Everyone stood up to cheer on.
At that moment Amara came out with an opaque duppata covering her face and was helped onto the stage. Leo, the girls and their husbands stood up as if to welcome Amara.
I can’t see her, Leo thought
We can’t see her, Piper thought, relating to Amara’s covered face.
Everyone helped Amara to her seat and then instructed Leo to lift the veil to reveal Amara’s face.
Oh my God! She’s gorgeous, Leo thought. He looked at the girls and their husbands and noticed that they were thinking the same thing.
Amara looked more like a girl than before. At Uni she always wore tracksuit bottoms and all sporty clothes, for more than one reason, that she went to the gym every other day.
Man, I’m hot under the collar! Leo mumbled to himself.
“Leo! Stop blushing!” Prue whispered to Leo.
“Sorry” Leo apologised sheepishly
Everyone clapped once the veil was lifted.
Mumbles of “Doesn’t Amara look nice” started to fill the hall.
“Ladies and Gentlemen please stay seated while dinner is being served. There will be time to see the bride and groom after dinner. Hey hey but not before.” Adam announced. A wave of laughter spread through the hall at Adam’s announcement.
Dinner started getting served roasting hot. The VIPs were served first: Amara’s best friends. Roast spicy chicken as big as a human hand! Pickled chicken curry, with Nan bread. A variety of drinks were available: Coke, Diet Coke, Mineral water, Sprite and Lilt. There was also a Bar for guest who wished to have an alcoholic drink.
Soon everyone was eating. The noise level rose as people were talking while they ate.
Murmurs of how good the food is spread through the hotel.
Once the main meal ended, dessert started to be served. There were the options of Ice cream, Zarda sweet rice and Semolina.
Within an hour and a half, all the guests had finished eating, the servers had their bites to eat.
Soon the ceremony of gifts started. Leo was shocked at how many presents were being given. He was also shocked at how many of these old women were kissing him on the cheeks!!
Lucy and the rest of the group came at the end. They went as couples. Lucy, Zo, Sadia and Christian, were the only one in a relationship. Sadia was married but lived far away so she came alone. Zo was married to Mo. Christian was going out with Kirsty so she was his date for the wedding. Mo and Sam were still single. I’m not surprised, Amara thought. If Sam is the same crap chatter he was five years ago, then I’m not surprised.
And Mo. Well let’s just say I have nothing against Mo. It’s just his luck, Amara thought
Everyone came up and hugged Amara and spoke to Leo. They spoke to the newly wed couple had a few laughs with Amara about their past. They had their pictures taken by the main photographer who was hired and also took some form their own cameras
They all spent about half an hour with Amara and Leo and then went back to their table.
The photographer asked if Leo and Amara would like their pictures taken in personal.
Lucy and Sadia helped Amara into a room, which was designed for the photo shoot.
The photographer got them to do different kind of poses together and then Amara alone. That took about fifteen minutes.
Once Amara and Leo were brought back, other people saw this as their chance to have some pictures taken with Amara and Leo.
No more pictures please, Amara thought. I can’t smile anymore. My cheeks bloody hurt!
Time flew like anything. After the pictures were taken, Amara’s mum and gran presented Leo, the girls and their husbands with gifts. Leo got a gold 2-carat chain and a gold watch and £1000 in cash!
Lottery, Leo thought.

Piper was given a set of golden earrings and a golden bracelet.
Prue was given a gold bracelet and a choli dress.
Paige was given a trouser suit and a box of twenty-five bangles.
Phoebe was given small silver jewellery set and a gold bracelet.
All the husbands were given a gold watch and three-piece suit.
Cole’s shirt was royal blue with a sky blue puffy tie, Shane’s was sky blue with purple tie, Jeremy’s was a cream shirt with a cream puffy tie and Andy’s was a maroon shirt with a white puffy tie.
Everybody hugged and kissed Amara’s mum and gran.
Soon it was time for the rucksati, the departure of the bride.
Amara saw as Adam adjusted the music to fit the atmosphere.
Why? Amara thought to herself. Why change the music? I’ll end up crying when I don’t really want to.
Amara and Leo were led down the on to the main floor form the stage. Cole and the rest of the boys had gone to grab their cars. Amara and Leo would be driven back to Leo’s main house in Ashton with Cole and Phoebe.
Everyone started to walk out of the main hall and had tears in their eyes.
One by one everyone bided Amara farewell. After the main guests had bided, the VIPs came forth. Lucy and Neil hugged Amara, showing no sign of crying, only a happy face. Sadia came up next and she had her water loose! She was crying and her eyes were red.
“Sadz, don’t cry! You’re supposed to stop me!” Amara sobbed as well as joked.
They had a quite laugh and hugged.
Then it was Kirsty and Christian. They hugged Amara and Leo.
“Stop crying or else I’ll punch in front of everyone,” Kirsty threatened
Expect Kirsty to lighten the mood, Amara thought to herself
She also noticed that there was a hint of tears in Christian’s eyes.
Next it was Canadian and Mo. They hugged Amara and shook hands with Leo.
Last but not least it was Zo and Mo. They hugged Amara and Leo and wished them the best.
After that everyone else came one by one. Amara’s mum, gran, sister, Adam and her aunts were in tears.
Soon it was over and everyone else went back inside.
They cleared up and everyone made their way back to their own houses.
“That was probably the best wedding I ever went to!” Yaya and Adam said together
“Jinx!” Adam said

Amara felt more comfortable when she was with Leo, Cole and Phoebe on their way home.
“I think I’m getting sweet tooth,” Amara informed.
“Your getting a sweet tooth, I’m feeling really weird about those ladies kissing me!” Leo complained.
Everyone bursted into laughter.
“One thing I gotta say is that those presents were life taking. They were gorgeous!” Phoebe said
“Agreed” Cole and Leo said together.
“Are rest making their own way her?” Amara asked when they stop outside a huge house.
“Yep” Cole answered quickly
As he finished, they saw the rest pull up.
“Right you and Amara stay out here while we go and prepare” Prue said to Leo.
“Prepare for what?” Amara asked
“You’ll see” Piper said, winking at her.
“Do you know?” Amara asked Leo
Leo shook his head.
“Okay ready” Paige said a few minutes later.
As they stepped into the house, they were asked to wait in the hall.
“Okay girls, lets say the spell” Prue said
They nodded
