Charmed In Hawaii
The sun beat down on Malia as she lay on the beach trying to get a tan. She was tired, and she felt her heart becoming heavier everyday that she kept the secret hidden deeply inside of her heart. She was tired of work, school, and guys tended to come off as jerks to her. Life held too many problems out to her. She hated it. Every minute of it. It was too hard for her handle. Malia looked up from the book she was reading to see her sister running up the sand tword her. Kaila stopped short and looked at her sister’s book. She rolled her eyes at Malia. She always played it safe- always doing the right thing. She never took a chance. Malia never got herself into trouble.
“Malia! Where’s your surf board?” Kaila asked sounding excited.
“At home.”
“The waves are extreme!! You should be out surfing! Not reading a book…” Kaila told her sister.
“No… I’m fine here. I’m catching a sun tan.” Malia turned herself back to her book.
Kaila rolled her eyes and sat down on the blanket for a rest. She picked up a bottle of sun block and put it all over herself.
Kaila’s dark complexion matched her black hair the same as her two sisters. Each sister was two minutes apart from the other, Malia being the oldest and seemingly the one in charge. Kaila tossed her hair behind her back as she put down the bottle. Her hair fell just below her shoulders, and slightly layered made it somewhat wavy. Malia turned over on her back, revealing her cute pink flower-patterned binkini from her front side. Her hair choppy but sophisticated hair suited her perfectly. She moved her to the right side as she turned the page in her book. Kaila looked in Malia’s direction and opened her mouth to speak. As if knowing instantly that Kaila was going to say something, Malia looked up from her book.
“What?” She asked
“ I was just wondering where Lala is… that all.”
Lala walked down the boardwalk scanning the mass of people on the sand for her two sisters. She was beginning to envy their less hectic work schedule. She set her gaze on the ocean as she set down her red lifeguard bag beside her. Lala snapped back into reality and tossed her dark black hair behind her, letting it fall just below her back. She looked around the sand one more time, and giving up she retrieved her cell phone from her bag.
“Malia, where are you guys at? I can’t find you anywhere.” She said into the phone.
“On the beach.” Malia answered in a joking tone of voice.
“We’re across from the Candy Shoppe.” She added
Chapter one- Our Secret
Our life has been one big secret ever since I can remember. Even when I was I little. “Honey, Malia, don’t use your powers in public.” My mother used to say. Now at age 17 I’m fighting demons in hell- literally. I think anyone would agree that Hawaii is a much more beautiful place than hell ever will be.
I’ve had my powers or gifts as mother called them ever since I can remember. Lala, Kaila, and I used to “ magic” when we were young. But that all changed when mother was killed. Grammie had told us that this demon killed her and tried stealing her powers.
Malia sat up in her and put down the journal she was writing in. She missed her mother, and she missed her grandmother. The “gift” was great- but she also wished that for once she could be normal, and have a life that was normal. She thought of all those times that Grammie made them learn spells and practice their “gifts”. When the girls were only eight years old Donita learned that Lily had gained more powers than her. Donita was a powerful demon who wanted to take over the Underworld. She tried all that she could to take the magical book that kept the Hawaiian Charmed Ones in tact. Donita failed her attempt to gain the powers, but so did the HCO. Donita killed Lily, but Alika had gotten to Donita before she almost killed Jewel too. After Lily’s death, the girls couldn’t go on, they had to leave Hawaii. Jewel and Alika couldn’t leave each other either- it was all they had left of their trio. They put aside the Craft, and moved to upper California. Grammie took her granddaughters into custody and raised them in Hawaii in hopes that HCO could still do some good. Grammie did all that she could to make sure that the girls were ready to fight the demons.
