“Family Meeting!” Patrick McKinley yelled. He looked down at his wife, who was pacing back and forth in the middle of the living room. “Honey calm down.” His wife paused and looked at him. ‘I’m calm. Why do I not seem calm?” she asked, stopping and looking at him. “You seem fine.” Patrick said, knowing the truth would not be what she wanted to hear. “But we will get through this.” “Get through what?” Matt, the eldest son, said. He suddenly stopped as a figure formed in front of him. “Chloe. How many times have I told you not to do that? You freak me out every time you do that.” Chloe giggled and ran and sat on the couch. “So what is going on? I have important business to do.” Kevin, the middle child said. “Really, what can of business is that?” Patrick said with amusement. “I am currently giving advice to a business man for trading stocks. He doesn’t know what invest in.” Mr. And Mrs. McKinley shook their head. Their middle child had the mind of a genius, all because of a spell gone wrong. They still haven’t worked out a spell strong enough to reverse the effects. “That’s nice honey. But the reason we called the meeting is because uh…your father will tell you.” Mrs. McKinley said, and sat down on the couch. Leaving her husband standing up, all eyes were on him to explain what was going on. “Ok, what’s going on? When mom doesn’t feel like talking there is definitely a problem. Ow.” He said, clutching his mouth. Patrick suppressed a smile. “Hey, let’s keep it shut.” Mrs. McKinley said. “Go ahead.” She said to her husband. “We are going to be having a guest stay with us.” Patrick says, watching the expressions on his children’s faces. They seemed calm enough so he went on. “She will be staying with us a couple of months.”
“She? She who?” Matt asked, starting to wonder who could be saying. Hoping it wasn’t Aunt Eileen. She always loved to pinch his cheeks, and that was very irritating. “Do you think she will play with me? We could braid each other’s hair.” Chloe said, starting to get excited at the thought of another girl in the house. “Exactly how old is she?” Kevin said, already losing interest in the conversation. While his mind wandered over what stock he should sell. “Well, she would be about Matt’s age.” Mrs. McKinley said, her mind now wandering about that. Her and her husband looked at each other. Worry, starting to go through their mind about having to hormone driven teenagers in their household. We’ll talk about that later, Patrick sent her a telepathic message. What if he gets her pregnant? Mrs. McKinley thought loud enough for her husband to hear her. A lot of possibilities start to go through her head. You are getting a bit ahead of yourself, Patrick telepathically told her. “What are you guys saying?” Kevin asked. None of the kids liked that they could have secret conversations with the children ever knowing. “So you guys are ok, with her staying here?” Mrs. McKinley asked. “Sure, I don’t see what the big deal is. Is she going to be staying in the room with Chloe?” Kevin said. “Actually, Matt you will be moving up to the attic. And she will get your room.” Patrick said. “What?! Why do I have to move up to the attic? Ok, why is she moving in with us?” Matt said, it was one thing to have someone. “Her parents died.” “And who is she?” Kevin asked, “Because you haven’t mention anybody dying.”
“Awww, someone died.” Chloe said, she never liked to hear about death. She really didn’t like to see when a demon gets vanquished. Mrs. McKinley wrapped her hand around Chloe, comforting her. “Anyway, her parents use to be dear friends of ours.” Mrs. McKinley said. “Use to be?” Matt questioned. “Who are these people? Have we met them before?” Kevin asked. “They were good friends to us. Before all of you were born. But anyway, that’s enough of 20 questions. Matt your stuff has been moved all ready.” Patrick said. “When?” Matt asked. “During this conversation.” Mrs. McKinley said. Then touched her head. She had become quite adept at using her power of psycho kinesis. “Ok, there is just one more thing. You guys have all probably been thinking about it.” Patrick looked over to his wife. “Her parents were witches. But shortly before she was born they uh, stopped using magic. And renounced their rites as witches.” The children faces fell, as they started to realize where the conversation was going. “So she doesn’t know she is a witch. And most likely knows nothing about her powers.” “Don’t say what I think you are going to say.” Matt said, starting to get angry. “That’s right. As of right now, there will be no magic usage in this house.” Mrs. McKinley said, she watched her children’s faces. They were not happy and hell she wasn’t that happy too, but it had to be done. “I know you guys aren’t happy right now. But I just want her to be settled in before she finds out what she is.”
“Ok, so first you kick me out of my room. And now you tell me that I can’t do what I can only do in this house. Use magic. You know what, I have to go. Because this is completely bull—“ “Watch it,” Patrick says interrupting him. “There will be none of that language.”
“I’m leaving. Call me at P3, if you decide to make any more decisions I my life.” He walked out of the room. Mrs. McKinley stood up. Sara let him go. Patrick telepathically told her. “So you guys will be able to handle it.” Patrick said. Chloe and Kevin were not happy. “This sucks.” Kevin said, and grabbed Chloe’s hand. They turned invisible. “You two better not be making any faces at us.” Sara said, looking around the room. “Damn, I hate when they do that.” She couldn’t tell if they left the room our not. “Can you,” she pauses as he hears footsteps on the stairs. “You guys have til 4:30 to use all your magic!”
“This does suck.” Patrick says in agreement to what Kevin said. “Patrick.” “Well it does.” Patrick says. “But at least I can use my powers still.” Sara shook her head and smiled at him. ………………………………………. Nikki sat in the back of the limo and looked out the window. She was in San Francisco on her way to stay with people she didn’t even know. And there was nothing she could do about it. Her lawyer tried everything to get her from going to San Francisco. Hell, she had rather stayed in Malibu. At least she didn’t have to move out of state. “Driver do you think you could turn around and go back to Malibu.” “No Nikki’.” Edwin said, from the driver’s seat. He was her driver this would most likely be the last ride that she would have in a limo with him. “How about if I give you 300 dollars?” Nikki asked hoping that maybe he would turn the car around. Nikki had a lot of friends in Malibu. Many of them could stash her away in their houses. She was really starting to consider doing it. “Stop thinking.” Edwin said from the front of the car. Nikki smiled at Edwin through the mirror. “Anyway, did my parents mention anything about these people? Because I am drawing a blank, with the name McKinley, you would think that they would have at least given me some kind of heads up of where I would be going in case they…died.” Nikki said. “Sorry Nikki, they didn’t say anything about these people. I was just as surprised as you were when they said McKinley.” But of course Edwin did know about the McKinley’s. That was a family of witches. A family to be reckoned with if you was a demon. “I just think that your Nikkim and dad thought long and hard before they put these people in their will. So they must be good people.”
“What if they got the wrong name? Maybe they meant the McConleys. Yeah the McConley’s. They have such a nice house. And a pool to die for.” Nikki started to get into the idea that that could be the reason for her going to people she didn’t know. “Nikki, as much as you what like to believe that, It was proven that your parents did know these people and they must have kept in some sort of contact with them in order for them to accept you to come to their home and live with them.” Edwin said, watching Nikki closely. She didn’t seem the least bit sad. “It’s just that…. I can’t do this. I can’t go live with people I don’t know. It seems so weird. My parents die and then they do this to me. They purposely did this to make me angry. It was their last little attempt to piss me off. And they did it beautifully.” Nikki said, while the limo pulled off the freeway. She looked out the window. Her parents were dead yet she didn’t seem to care that much about them. It’s not that she was cold and heartless or anything. It was just that they were dead. She never really saw them in the first place and now she won’t. The really sad part is that when she first heard that they died, something changed within her. It wasn’t a big change but she did feel like something happened. And it felt like it was a change for the better.

“Nikki, I really don’t know what you are going through. Since both of my parents are still alive.” Edwin said, while looking back at her in the rearview mirror. Ok, that was a lie. He couldn’t even remember his parents it has been so long. But that was a whole other story within itself. “But I don’t think they did this to upset you.”
“Whateve.” She said, staring out the window. He watched her in the mirror. He knew that her parents bound her powers, so that she wouldn’t do anything dangerous when she got older. But now that she has her powers things would be getting very interesting. Edwin pulled up to the driveway of the address to the McKinley’s. “Ok, this is the place.” He said to Nikki. Nikki looked out the other side of the window and saw the house. “Ok, uh… where is the rest of it.” She said, while looking at the house with a bit of grimace. “I can do this.” She seats back in her seat. And takes a deep breathe of air. “I can do this.” She is telling herself. “I have to do this.” ``````````````````````` She is here, Patrick sent Sara a message. She stood in Matt’s old room. She placed a piece of paper down on the floor. She then put a bag of mystical ingredients on top of it. “Ok, here goes nothing.” She was testing out a new spell, hoping that there wouldn’t be any drawbacks to the spell. “Loco remde focra bost”. She felt something move through her body. Then gradually a change went through the room. Suddenly a queen size bed appeared in the middle of the floor, the walls went from solid white to a pinkish color. A dresser appeared on the right of the room, and a full length mirror next to it. On the other side of the room, another dresser appeared. “Ok, this enough. She can fix the room up more if she wants too.” Ok, wow. She pulled up in the limo but she isn’t coming out for some reason, Patrick sent her another message. “Kids, be good. Company has arrived. And don’t forget what I told you. No magic!” Sara yelled as she ran down the stairs. She checked herself in the mirror, in front of the door. “Don’t worry honey, you look fine.” Patrick says while wrapping his arms around her body. “I hope she is ugly.” Sara says out of nowhere. “Sara!” Patrick says with bewilderment. “I am just thinking what if something happens between her and Matt. You know how he gets around pretty girls.” “but he will no better. We raised him right.”
“What if she doesn’t like it here?”
“She might not.”
“Yeah you aren’t supposed to say that. We will work on the support system later.” She quickly kisses him on the lips and stood in front of the door. Waiting for the girl to ring the doorbell. As Chloe and Kevin come down the stairs. ``````````` Nikki sees the door open, fear starting to wrap around her stomach. “I don’t want to go.” Nikki says. “But you have to.” Edwin says from the front seat, and gets out of the driver seat and then walks over to her side of the car. But for her it felt like he was moving in slow motion. It seemed like an eternity once he got to her side and opened the door. She got out of the car. Nikki had a nervous habit of biting her bottom lip. “I can do this.” She looked over at Edwin. He gave her a sympathetic nod. “I only have to stay here until I turn 18 right?”
“Correct.” Edwin said. “What if they are abusive?” Nikki asked. “I doubt that will be a problem for you.” Edwin said, giving Nikki a reassuring smile. “No go.” He gave her a gentle push toward the house. Nikki slowly ambled her way up the steps, and knocked on the door. Please don’t be home, she thought loud enough for Patrick to hear on the other side of the door. The door opened to reveal Patrick and Sara McKinley and Chloe and Kevin were right behind them on the stairs. Nikki’s eyes widened when she saw them. They stared at each other for a minute. “Hello, welcome to your new home.” Patrick said, with a big smile. Breaking the silence. “It’s nice to meet you. You can call me Patrick. My wife Sara.” He said, putting his hands on Sara. Who seemed stunned at Nikki’s appearance. “And that is Kevin and Chloe.”
“Hello.” She said, looking at the people that would soon to be raising for the next couple of months.

Sara’s eyes followed Nikki, as she walked into the house. The girl looked nothing like either of her parents. The only thing that they had in common was the skin color. Other than that, there was nothing similar. Patrick began showing Nikki the house, and Sara was getting ready to close the door. But a hand stopped her. She gasped quickly, for a second she feared that it was a demon. But she realized that it was the driver of the limo. “Hello.” She smiled at the man. “Hi, I just wanted to look at the faces of the infamous McKinley family.” Edwin smiled at Sara. Sara stared at him confused, wondering how he could know anything about the family. “I’m sorry? I just—“ Sara began, but Edwin cut her off. “Don’t worry I know you’re little secret. Well it isn’t a little secret. But I know about the McKinley family. And I just want to tell you that Nikki hasn’t been exposed to any kind of witchcraft or magic of any kind.” Edwin said, but Sara was quickly realizing that Edwin was more than a limo driver. “I know you are probably surprised at me telling you this.” Sara kept looking at him. “I’m sorry, I just don’t understand,” she looked behind her. Chloe and Kevin had found interest in Nikki and watched her from the stairs. But Nikki and Patrick were in another part of the house. Most likely the kitchen, Sara began to wonder if Nikki knew how to cook. But quickly dropped that from her mind. She then looked back at Edwin. “How do you know about us being witches?”
Edwin smiled at her, “Let’s just say I work for someone higher up than the Nikki’s parents.” He pointed upward toward the sky. “You are her whitelighter?” Sara asked, surprised. “Oh no. I was more of Sylvester,” making reference to Nikki’s father. “ Versai.” He said and watched Sara’s confused expression. “How much did you know about Nikki’s father?” “A powerful witch.” Sara thought about it. “Extremely powerful. He had an odd power. Something I never saw before.” The Power of Past Pain, he could open up old wounds an a person, and intensify them to the brink of death. “Yeah, did you know his heritage at all?” Edwin said, trying to hurry and tell her what she would be dealing with if Nikki ever came into her power. “No. He never mentioned his family. Why is there something I should know?” Sara asked, her mind began wondering over possibilities. “He uh… well he…ok, I’ll just come right out and say it. He was a Seelie Prince.” Sara’s eyes widened. “Fey.” The Feys were a race of their own. In the History books, the Feys were created once the Gods destroyed the Titans, and the humans began to worship the gods. Mother Earth created another race. The Feys, they were believed to have the power to rival the Titans. They were rumored to have the kindness of Angels, but that could turn quickly to the wrath of the devil when there temper was upon them. But the Seelie was a race was a species within its own. “Huh.” Sara said. “So he didn’t tell you, ok. Once he renounced his crown he moved to Ireland.” Sara’s memory kicked in. She didn’t hear a word Edwin said. Sylvester had come to Ireland, where he met her and Rebecca. Rebecca and Sly soon fell in love. During that time, they had joined a coven. Sara shuddered, every time she even mentioned the coven. Then he and Rebecca split in the middle of the night, leaving Sara to face the coven all by her self. “Then…” he stopped abruptly, when he saw Nikki and Patrick returning toward the door. “Hey,” Nikki said to Edwin, she smiled at Sara. “I just want to talk to him for a minute.” She said to Sara, and then gently nudged Edwin outside. Out of earshot of Sara and Patrick. “So how do you like it?” Edwin asked, as soon as they were by the limo. “It’s ok. I guess, they seem like nice people.” Nikki said slowly. It didn’t seem like she was going to have a problem with them. That was a good thing. Although there was something off about them, she couldn’t place her finger on it but there was something. “You be good.” Edwin said. Nikki quickly gave him a hug. “I’m going to miss you.” She broke away from the hug, “You know what why don’t you stay here? Yeah, they don’t have a limo driver. You could work for them.” Nikki looked up at Edwin, he was a couple of feet taller than are. “I don’t think they are the type of people to use the limo drivers.” Edwin said, “Besides you got me a job with the Garcia family.” Nikki frowned she wanted at least one thing from her old life. And Edwin probably was the last link and even he was leaving her. “Well, I guess,” she almost thought of telling him to just quit the job with the Garcia family. “ I’ll miss you.”

……………
(Back at the House) Patrick put his arm around Sara as she watched Nikki and Edwin. “Hey, you ok?” “We need to talk later.” Sara said, continuing to watch Nikki and Edwin. Nikki gave Edwin a peck on a cheek. Then Edwin waved at Sara and Patrick and got in the car. Sara was a little unhappy that Edwin left without telling her the rest of the story. Nikki watched Edwin drive off, and stood on the street. Watching the limo drive down the street, and turn the corner disappearing from view. Made her realize that her old life was gone. She turned back to Sara and Patrick this was going to be her new life. `````````````````````` “So, uh…umm…” Patrick tried to break some of the tension. As he handed Sara some meat tenderizer, he helped her cook sometimes. When he had nothing else to do. Nikki sat across from them one of the stools watching the two of them. “Sara is a great cook. You will really like her food. Did your mother—“ he stopped abruptly not knowing how to continue. Sara threw Patrick a warning look. “I mean—“ he didn’t know how to continue. Nikki couldn’t help but smile. “Actually, I don’t think mother knew where the kitchen was.” Sara and Patrick exchanged looks. Chloe and Kevin came into the room. “Hi,” Chloe said, and climbed on the stool next to her. Kevin sat on the stool on the opposite side. “Hello.” Kevin said and extends his hand for a handshake. Nikki took it and shook his hand. “So tell us about yourself.”
“Kevin!” Sara said, to her son. In that motherly tone. “It’s ok.” Nikki said, and smiled at Kevin. “Actually, I guess were are going to have to go through this at some time. And since all of you guys are here I might as well tell you.” She paused trying to figure out how to continue. “My parents are dead. And I am ok with it. Now I know you guys are probably thinking that I am holding my feelings in but I am not. I have just learned to accept it.” Nikki hoped that was a very good explanation. Everybody was quiet in the room except Chloe. “So you don’t care that your parents are dead?” Chloe asked trying to make sense of what Nikki had just told them. “Oh well…I’m not sure she meant it that way.” Sara said, talking to Chloe. “Actually I mean that.” Nikki said, finally. “Hmmm…they were never around when you were younger.” Kevin said, well more stated. Patrick and Sara mentally kicked themselves. They had forgot about Kevin and his magically enhanced IQ. Nikki looked at him for a second, it sounded like something her psychologist would have said. “Yeah, they were.” Nikki said. “Could you two excuse us for a minute?” Sara asked Chloe and Kevin. They both got up slowly and left the kitchen. Nikki watched them go, and then looked back at Sara and Patrick. They both stared at her. “Honey, I know you are going through a rough time and” god, Nikki knew exactly how this conversation was going to turn out. “Listen I don’t mean to be rude. But I have heard that mumbo jumbo before. I’m going be up straight with you two because that is the only way I will be able to get along with you guys. My parents were not the people who raised me. The staff raised me. My parents were always some place different. They only stayed home for about a week at a time.” Sara frowned; confused she couldn’t see Rebecca treating her child like that. Sylvester on the other hand…he was a man. “Hey!” Patrick said to Sara, his mouth hanging open. Sara gave Patrick an exasperated look. “Oh right.” He said, forgetting that Nikki had no idea about magic. Our about their powers. He wondered how she would react when she found out. “Ok, I can’t imagine how that felt.” Sara really couldn’t imagine. Her parents had always been around. Her father was a vicious bastard. “But I guess we can let the subject go.” “Well, now let’s move on. How were you doing in school?” Patrick said. “A’s and B’s. Principal’s Honor Roll, Head Cheerleader, President of Associated Student Body. Just a few things.” Nikki said, she was starting to get hungry. And the food smelled good. “How long ‘til the food is done?” Nikki asked. Patrick liked that comment, he also wished that Matt was more involved in school just the way Nikki was. “ In about 15 minutes.” Sara and Patrick said, in unison. Nikki liked to see that people their age could still be in love with each other. When her parents were home, they mostly were quiet. They barely even talked to her. …………………
The fire was ablaze in the dark. The magic was strong in the air. Thirteen figures stood in a circle protected with strong dark magic. They chanted, and any on looker could tell there was something wrong with what they were doing. Finally a figure stood in the circle. “The time has come that we strike down upon our enemy. Sara O’Connor. Or McKinley. Now. She has finally been found, and now we must act upon her betrayal to us.”
“And how do you suggest we go about killing her?” a voice rose from a member from the circle. “Her family. When she was a member, family was a big part of her life. And now that she has her own, I know it will be an even bigger part of it now that she has a family of her own. As of now, someone has already infiltrated the family.”
ooc: I'll be updating soon... “Everything’s ok.” Matt lied. “Really?” Piper said, not believing him. “Ok, maybe I am a bit pissed off at my mom and dad right now.” Matt said, it wouldn’t hurt to talk to him. “Oh, anything I can do to help?” Piper asked. “You’ve done enough, by letting me work here.” He said gesturing at his surroundings. “I think things will work out.” He hoped. “Well, you know. You saved my life, when that dem..” she paused and looked behind her. “that demon attacked me. It’s the least I could do to help.” Piper said. “So what exactly did your parents do to make them angry?” Piper asked, watching Matt. “You know the only reason why I am really angry that they have put me, Kevin and Chloe on a magic ‘suspension,’” Matt said, while picking up another box. Piper brows furrowed, “Suspension?” she asked confused. “We have a new house guest.” Matt said, and explained further to Piper. “She is supposed to be a witch that doesn’t know she is a witch.” He said while opening up a box. “So she’s never seen magic before. Hence, we can’t use it.” Matt said, and set a bottle from the package. Mainly, Ma or was to retrieve packages of alcohol. Piper couldn’t legally have Matt working the bar til he was 18 or 21. She would have to check the handbook. But he could handle package of liquor. “Hmmm, well all I can say is that your parents are probably doing what is best. But I do think she should tell him or her about the heritage.” Piper said, she thought a moment. “What about ‘Magic’ School?” Matt looked up abruptly. “ I don’t know. They didn’t say anything to me about what they will do about Magic School.” Matt sounded, what would happen. There was no way to explain how a door would appear to any unsuspecting non-magic user. And he could use a break from Magic School; he already had to go to Public School. Magic School could be put on hold for a while. He only took 2 classes there anyway. His parents believed that he only needed the basics and since at Magic School there mainly was magic. He didn’t need to know everything about magic. Piper nodded, “Maybe I can talk to your mom for you the next time she comes in to perform.” She did like his parents, and the family wasn’t that bad either. They ere the only witch family that she knew that wasn’t split up, crazy or evil. Watching them, sometimes she felt that they hae a normal but magical life. “Nah, it’s ok. I think I’ll just wait it out.” Matt said, and took out a couple more bottles. Piper watched him for a moment. Matt began unloading more boxes, and discarding them. Not hearing footsteps come up from behind. Not seeing the athame that moved slowly up from behind, and went around his neck the tip of the blade touched his neck. Matt froze; he couldn’t exactly use his power. “Hey Baby” he heard whispered in his ear. Relief swept through his body at that familiar voice. The knife vanished, and he turned around to see his girlfriend Lisa standing there with a devious smile. “I didn’t scare you didn’t I” she teased. “That wasn’t funny.” Matt said, angry with her for sneaking up on him. And angry with himself that he didn’t hear her come. “God, I was just messing with you.” Lisa said smiling and coming toward him. “So what is wrong?”
“Just some family problems.” Matt said, and welcomed the kiss that Lisa gave him. “So what are you doing here?” “Well, I just came from seeing my boyfriend. So I stopped by to see you…”she laughed, “Why do you think I am here? I came to see you. So I am thinking that you and I could have a little fun.” She turned around and closed the door. ``````````````````` “This is really good.” Nikki said, while stuffing lasagna down her throat. She hadn’t eaten anything really in a couple of days. The thought of eating had never come to mind, when she first heard of her parents. Sure she had eaten something, a cracker, and a banana. But nothing really good for her to eat. “Thank You.” Sara said, happy at the compliment. Patrick smiled at his wife, he knew she liked it when her food was complimented. “So did your mo—“ Sara caught herself before she said, the word Mom. “What did your cook use to fix you?”
“Usually Sushi. Or something else, but usually it would fall under the healthy food category.” Nikki said, while taking another fork full of lasagna. “But this is my first time eating lasagna.” “You never had lasagna before?” Chloe asked, with surprise. “My cook use to be my dietician. So it was mostly healthy foods everyday. Sometimes he broke and took us out for fast food but it was rare.”
“So are you up to going to school soon? We already have you registered at the local high school. We’ll just wait for you to tell us when you are ready.” Sara said. “A new school. With new people.” And new guys, Nikki thought to herself. Patrick overheard that and he looking away from her and at Sara. “Well the school is very prestigious. It has a very high academic record.” Patrick said, speaking with great pride about the school he taught at. “And mainly, most of the student’s go off to college.”
“That’s good. You seem to really happy with the school.” Nikki observed. “Oh, that’s right. We forgot to tell you. Patrick is a teacher there.” Sara said, patting Patrick’s hand. Nikki almost choked on her drink when she heard it. They all looked at her. “Sorry.” Nikki cleared her throat. “I just…” she paused, thinking about having to see Patrick at school and then at home. That would kind of suck. “I um…it sounds good. I’d like to start tomorrow.” Sara and Patrick were about to say something else when they saw blue orbs beginning to form behind her. Both of their eyes grew wide, as they saw their whitelighter Michael appear right behind Nikki. Nikki was to busy eating her lasagna to see Patrick motion for Michael to go in the other room. Nikki stopped eating as she felt a presence behind her. She turned around to see nothing. She turned back to see Sara and Patrick both looking at her. Chloe and Kevin were looking down at their food. “Something wrong honey?” Sara asked. “I thought—“ Nikki stopped. “Nothing.”
“Well, I have to go into the kitchen, to get dessert. And I’ll be right back.” Sara said getting up from the table. “Yeah, I’ll help.” Patrick said and got up from the table and followed Sara into the kitchen. They made sure the door was closed, and turned to see Michael eating a cupcake. “What are you doing here?” Sara asked. “Most charges are happy to see their whitelighter. Besides I have come to see how Chloe was doing.” Michael had become a joint whitelighter when Patrick and Sara had gotten married. And became a whitelighter to the children as well. So he was pretty much the family whitelighter now. “She’s doing fine. Her powers have become better. She hasn’t turned anything invisible for a while.” Patrick said, it was a surprise to see that Chloe had gotten advancement on her power at such a young age. “That’s good. That the girl that is going to be staying with you guys?” Michael asked, remembering seeing Nikki at the dinner table. He finished the rest of the cupcake.

“Yeah, that’s why we don’t think you should come around that much anymore.” Sara said slowly. “Well orb. Not come around. We like you to come around. But she doesn’t know she is a witch yet. And we don’t want her to use any magic so maybe you could come through the door.” Patrick explained. Michael nodded slowly. “When do you guys plan on telling her about her…heritage?” Michael asked, he thought it was a shame when witches found out about her powers when they were older. He liked the fact that Chloe, Kevin and Matt had their whole lives to learn about their powers and magic. And of course, how to fight evil. It seemed kind of cliché but it was the truth. “Well, I don’t know about that. It can’t last forever. I’m pretty sure one of the kids will slip up and do something magical. But we just want to ease her into our lifestyle.” Sara said. “That sounds about right.” Patrick said in agreement. “Oh, I need you to ask the elders. What they can tell me about the Seelie Sidhe?” Sara asked. Michael looked away from them. “Why would you want to hear about them?” Michael asked, not liking “What do you know?” Patrick asked. “No lying.” Patrick tapped his head. “Well, nothing really. Let’s just say. That I would never want to go up against one in a fight.”
“You’re a whitelighter, you can’t die. Remember.” Sara said, while placing a couple of cupcakes on a tray. “I have heard that they are…deadly, and very dangerous.” Michael said, thoughtfully. A doorbell was rung. Patrick looked at the clock, it read: 8:47. “I wonder, who that could be.” Sara said, while putting down the tray. She walked out into the hallway, and she saw Nikki looking through the peephole. “Who is it?”
“The Movers.” Nikki said, while opening up the door. “Hi,” she said to the first mover, bringing in a suitcase. Just take it up stairs, second room on your right.” She watched the mover take up her suitcase, and then a second mover came up from behind. “Oh your stuff has arrived.” Sara said smiling as they took up her suitcases. She smiled and watched the men go upstairs. “So, cupcakes are ready. I’ll just—“ she trailed off as she saw a third guy come up with a big bag, full of boxes. Nikki watched the guy carefully. “Be careful with that. Those shoes are very expensive. Please.” She added at the end, Nikki didn’t want to give them a reason to ‘accidentally’ abuse her babies.

And she still has boxes all over her room. Not to remember the shoes.” Sara said to her husband while sliding into bed. “Yeah, well…she is a girl.” Patrick said, and then something came to him. “What was with that crack about men earlier?”
“Honey, how many times have I told you not read my thoughts.” Sara said, defensively. She didn’t mean for someone to hear her think like thought. But sometimes she couldn’t help but think about how cruel her father was when she was growing up. “Hey I wasn’t trying to read your mind, it was a stray thought. That was loud enough for me to overhear. It’s weird how the brain works.” Patrick said while shaving. “Besides it’s not like I want to hear everything you think.”
“Oh please, remember the time we went to Hawaii. Your mind was stuck on mine like…” she tried to recall a good simile. “ White on rice.”
“That was only because we well at the beach, and if you would have heard those men’s thoughts about you. You would have understood exactly what I was doing?” “Yeah, I couldn’t look at one man, in the face. You kept telling me all their thoughts. Sickening. The male mind.” Patrick begins to laugh in the other room. “What is so funny?” “ They thought something was wrong with you.” Patrick says while still laughing. “Are you serious?” Sara says with shock. “Is that why the lifeguard was talking to me like I was really slow.” Sara asked remembering, “Yep, I had too. You know what they were thinking. I had to make sure they stayed away from you.” Patrick says, while coming out of the bathroom. “I’m not talking to you right now.” Sara said, leaning back on her pillows. She grabbed her notebook from the nightstand. “I think I am going to write some man hating songs.” ```````````````````````` Nikki sat on her bed, while looking around the room. A lot of work would need to be done to this room to make it, look really good. She liked the pink walls and the bed wasn’t that bad. It was nice and comfy. She was debating on what to wear for school there were a lot of things that she could wear. But she would have to have something that would make a big impression on some people. Of course it would have to be in dress code and something tasteful. She didn’t want to go to school and look like a total @#%$. There was a knock on the door, and Nikki turned to see Chloe standing in the doorway. She looked at Nikki and gave her a big smile. “Hi,”
“Hi,” Nikki said, she didn’t really like kids. And she knew she was going to have a problem with Chloe and Kevin. But she would just have to work it out. “So…you guys have a nice house. I like this room.” Nikki said. Chloe smiled looking around the room. “It’s really pink.” “So…” Nikki trailed off not knowing what to say to the little girl. “how old are you?”
“7, I’ll be 8 in December.” Chloe smiled. “How old are you? “17, I’ll be 18 next year.” Nikki said. “So what school do you go to?”
“Dominito elementary school.” Chloe said. “So do you like it?” Nikki asked she was beginning to wonder why Chloe had come into her room. “It’s fun. I have friends.” Chloe said, Nikki thought of all her friends that she left behind in Malibu. She had so much fun when she was out there. Now she was stuck in San Francisco. She would miss Malibu, but she wouldn’t dwell on it. Her grandmother had told her to leave what was in the past in the past, and always look toward the future. But if something evil was lurking in the past you should run to your future and never look back. Nikki never really understood that last part, but her mother didn’t like it what so ever. She had been shaken up the whole day after that.

Chloe seemed to have sensed something wrong with Nikki. “Is there something wrong?” she asked Nikki. Interrupting Nikki’s memory, it was gone and so were here mom and grandma. “No, I guess I am just feeling tired.” Nikki said, hoping that little girl would take the hint. “ Oh,” Chloe said, she knew it was past her bedtime but she knew her brother would stay up really late. Maybe it was because her parents died that she was tired more, Chloe reasoned up. “ I just wanted to say, Sorry.”
Nikki’s brows furrowed puzzled by what Chloe said. “Sorry,” she repeated to herself, while wondering what Chloe meant. Unknowingly, she glanced over at her shoes. Nothing seemed to be wrong with any of her stuff. “What are you sorry about?”
“Your parents.” Chloe said, Nikki silently agreed with the little girl. “Yeah me too.” Nikki said quietly. She felt a little better at saying that. I am sorry, she thought to herself. She then smiled at Chloe, “Isn’t it past your bedtime?”
“No.” Chloe lied. Nikki gave her a dubious look. “Ok, it is. Please don’t tell my mom and dad.” “You can get away just this once. Night.” Nikki smiled at her, and the girl slipped from her room. She got up and changed into her sleepwear. Before she went to bed she studied herself in the mirror. She rubbed her eyes; the contacts had started itching again. She glanced at the door, and listened for anybody to be walking down the hall. She slowly took out both contacts revealing her eyes. They were tri-colored. The outer edges of her irises were dark brown, within that was a honey brown, and last came a nice honey brown. Her parents told her that her eyes were just a gene mutation. She put the contacts back into place. She realized that she would have to get some more clothes to sleep in. Especially, since all she had were lingerie type stuff. She changed into a black satin nightie with spaghetti straps that hung just below her knees. Nikki lay back on the bed, while spreading her arms. This was…nice. Not just the bed or the room. Those things were still nice, nothing like her last room and bed but she wouldn’t claim about it. But what was nice about it was that she felt, love in the house. She could see how a real family acts and hopefully she could learn a thing or two from it. She got under the covers and closed her eyes. She pushed all her insecurities about what might happen tomorrow, or the next day, week or month. And she just slept. ………… Matt came in swaggering, and glared at the clock on the wall to his right. It read: 11:50. God, he had gotten home late. He hoped his parents weren’t up waiting for him. Not only was he late but he was also a bit drunk. He closed the front door as quietly as he possibly could. Then moved over to the staircase, thankful that his parents were sleep. When he first had begun working at P3 they had stayed up and waited for him to come home and then hammered him with 20 questions on how work had gone. If only he hadn’t gone out with Lisa earlier. She was such a bad influence on him and the sad part about it was that he liked that about her. He slowly climbed the stairs on his hands and knees. He didn’t completely trust himself to walk up the stairs without falling. “If I can just get to my room.” He muttered to himself. It seemed like an infinite number of stairs to climb up. When in reality he had only gone up 6 stairs. He leaned his head down on the stairs, not really wanting to move. He could sleep on the stairs they didn’t feel that bad. They were actually kind of comfortable in a wood type of way. Then again his parents woke up early and would see him lying on the stairs, and they would know something was wrong. Him breaking curfew and being drunk would have him grounded for at least a month. Slowly, he got back on his own two feet and with the aide of the wall he ambled to his room. Or as of now Nikki’s room. There was something he should have been remembering but he forgot what it was. He opened the door and then shut it quietly; it was so dark he couldn’t see anything. At least he had his room memorized in his mind. He quickly stripped off his shirt and threw it to the side, not hearing it land on one of Nikki’s shoeboxes. Then he peeled off his jeans, and moved over to the spot where he thought was his bed. He plopped down on the area where his bed use to be, but now it was just a space. He hit the floor with a thud. Nikki’s eyes popped open at the noise. She sat up on her bed and looked out into the darkness that was her room. Someone was in her room she was going to die. Wait, what did she have to worry about, she knew how to defend herself. She hadn’t been studying martial arts all those years just so she could get her @ss kicked by some burglar. Matt shook his head and frowned maybe all the alcohol had somehow affected his memory. He was sure that the bed was where he now sat. He crawled a few feet, and felt around on the floor ‘til he found one of the legs of his bed. Luckily, he hadn’t been that far from the bed. Nikki moved the cover slowly back and got up toward the head of the bed. She felt something pull at the covers. Matt was pulling himself on the bed. Nikki stared at the figure that was on the bed, right in front of her. He leaned in toward and she lashed out with a vicious kick to Matt’s face, making him fall off the bed. She rolled toward the opposite side of her attacker. Matt clutched his face and howled in pain. Dad, he sent the thought out in his mind. Loud enough for Patrick to awaken from sleep. Someone is in my room, he thought to his father. Somehow that kicked knocked him sober. He made his way toward the door, and Nikki did as well. As soon as their bodies touched, they both stiffened. For a split second, neither one of them knew what to do. Matt was the first to react and pushed Nikki back. Nikki peered out into the darkness trying to see where the figure was, she saw something moved d and she kicked out toward connecting with Matt’s stomach. He fell back and hit the door. He came back at Nikki. …… Patrick ran down the hall, with Sara following close behind him. “What the hell could be going on?” “Let’s found out.” Patrick said, they both stopped when they heard fighting noises on the other side of Nikki’s room. “You don’t think they are fighting do you?” Patrick looked back at his wife. Patrick pushed open the door, and Sara psychokinetically turned on the lights. They stood there shocked at the sight of Nikki on top of Matt pinning him to the ground. “You’re a girl.” Matt said, surprised. “Does that surprise you?” Nikki asked sarcastically, while rolling her eyes at the look of disbelief. Just typical of a guy to think he couldn’t get beat up by a girl, Nikki thought to herself. Patrick overheard and bit down on his lip. “Nikki.” Patrick said, he was happy that it wasn’t a demon. He glanced at his wife, knowing she would be relieved that it wasn’t a demon too. But the expression on her face surprised him. Nikki looked up at Sara and Patrick, realizing that they were both in the room. Sara was looking at Nikki’s sleeping attire and Matt in his boxers. They were both practically naked and on each other. “What happened here?”
“This pervert broke into my room and I kicked his butt.” Nikki said, with a bit of triumph. “So one of you guys call the police. I can hold him down.”
“Nobody is calling the police.” Patrick said. “Dad who is this girl?” Matt asked, while looking up at his parents. “Dad? What the hell is going on?” Nikki asked, looking up at Patrick and Sara. “The pervert is our son.” Patrick said. “Patrick.” Sara said. “You can get off of him.” Nikki glanced down and realized what she was wearing and Matt did too. His eyes traveled down her body. Nikki got off of Matt and sat on her bed. “I’m not following. Why is she in my room?” Matt asked, while getting off the floor and moving away from Nikki but watching her. “I’m sorry, I could have sworn you were at the family meeting.” Patrick said, looking at his son disbelieving. Recognition flowed over Matt’s face. “Oh.” Matt said. “Yeah.” Patrick said. “We moved your room upstairs. How could you have forgotten?” Sara asked, searching Matt’s face. “He’s drunk.” Patrick said, after finally looking over his son’s thoughts. To see where his mind had been. “ I am not.” Matt said, that was the truth, because the fight had made him more sober. “Well, you were.”
“You’ve been drinking.” Sara said. “At P3? I knew I shouldn’t have let you work there. God, if I would have known that business had been run so slopp—“ “No mom. Lisa took me out to a club after work.”
“Oh so you went with her. I should have known.” Sara said. Matt looked down angry that he had mentioned Lisa’s name. His mother had not liked Lisa, and she expressed her dislike of Lisa right in front of Lisa. “Mom. Do we really have to talk about her again?” Matt said. Nikki stayed silent, but watched.

“We don’t have to talk about her ever again. If you would just dump the little sl—“ she bit her tongue. “the girl.” Matt frowned at his mother. “Do I second guess every decision you make?”
“You’re not stupid. Of course you wouldn’t second guess any of my decisions.” Sara said. Patrick looked between the two of them; they would argue over about Matt’s poor decision. “Can we please all go to sleep now. Besides it isn’t good to argue in front of our new houseguest.” Patrick said, looking to the both of them. Looking at Nikki, “It won’t happen again. I promise.” He gave Matt a look. Then he and Sara departed, and Matt followed behind them. He paused at the doorway, he turned around and smiled at her. “It was nice meeting you.” Nikki shook her head. “Yeah, nice.” Nikki smiled at him. And then Matt turned and walked out closing the door behind him. Nikki lay back in her bed and whispered to herself. “He’s cute.”
