Meant to Be
Chapter one
The music was playing softly in the semi- deserted club. Couple glided to and fro on the dance floor in each others arms. Zoey smiled up at Chris; he smiled back at her, his magnificent green eyes locking onto hers. She liked being here, dancing with him; she liked the way she felt when his arms were around her. He made her feel safe, and made everything else seem not to matter anymore. Chris leaned in and kissed her lips softly yet full of passion. She smiled and leaned her forehead against his nose.
“I’ll always love you tiger.”
She looked up about to tell Chris never to call her that again but found Damien instead. Zoey gasped, “No…Damien?”
He smiled his charming smiles and his piercing green eyes locked onto hers. “Who else? We belong together, we were made for each other; I promised that I would never leave you. We were meant to be.”
Zoey woke up with a start. The dream, it had felt so real like all the other ones that she had been having the past two weeks. Zoey glanced over at the clock that was on her bedside dresser: 2:30 am. Zoey sighed, another sleepless night.
****
Zoey yawned as she flipped over the pancake revealing a golden brown colored side. It was now around eight o’clock in the morning. It was Sunday which meant that Piper and Leo were still sleeping. Zoey walked tiredly over to oven and pulled out the casserole that she had made. She placed the casserole next to the tray of chocolate chip cookies she had baked at around three that morning.
As she continued to make pancakes she kept wondering what her dreams meant. Could Damien still be alive? Had he been resurrected? No, of course not. She had seen him burst into flames, scream in pain then combust. She had even cast a binding spell to assure he would never be able to be resurrected. Your just being paranoid she thought to herself. What you need is a cup a tea and then you’re spending the day with your friends at the beach.
“Couldn’t sleep again?” Piper said as she entered the kitchen in her blue pajamas with pictures of monkeys dancing on them.
“How’d you guess?” Zoey asked.
The brownies,” Piper replied pouring herself a cup of coffee. “Is that cornbread vegetable casserole? Zoey what’s going on?”
“What do you mean?”
“You haven’t been able to sleep lately and sweetie, it’s taking a toll on the refrigerator. You’ve taken up all the room in there and we can’t eat it all.”
“Have you seen Leo eat? You’d swear he was eating for two. Anyways if it needs to be gotten rid of, I’ll invite the guys over, they’ll be more than happy to come.”
Piper studied her for a moment. Zoey looked tired but did a pretty good job of hiding it with her make up.
“What’s bothering you?” Piper asked.
A car horn honked outside. “I’ve got to go.”
End of chapter one

The old warlock lit the last candle and then Cole sprinkled the blood over the pentagram that had been painted on the dark marble floor. As soon as all the blood had been sprinkled about, Cole and the Ancient began to chant in an unidentifiable language. The earth began to quake then it slowly began to crack open. The books on the book shelves shook so much that they fell off of the shelf in faint thuds.
The chandelier came crashing down with a huge bang. Cole’s and the Ancient’s chanting grew louder, their voices rising and falling. Suddenly a bright flash of white light appeared in the center of the pentagram. The earth stopped shaking and in the middle of the pentagram stood a naked Damien.
Damien glanced around, “Balthazar?”
Cole tossed him some clothes, “Welcome back, Alastor.”
****
“Did she say she was feeling well?” Leo asked when Piper had closed the basement door. It was only one o’clock in the afternoon and Zoey had come home early from her day out claiming that she was feeling dizzy and uneasy. During a game of beach volley ball, she felt a sudden change in the air. An odd yet familiar feeling swept over her, giving her the chills.
“She just said that she’s tired. I took her temperature and she’s fine,” Piper replied. “She hasn’t been able to sleep the past couple of weeks.”
“Do you know why?”
Piper shook her head, “No, she hasn’t said.” Just then Chris orbed into the kitchen. “Hey there stranger,” Piper said and hugged the young white lighter. “We all missed you. It was too quiet.”
Chris smiled, “Hello to you too Piper. Hey Leo. How have you two been?”
“We’re fine,” Leo said. “What about you? How are you holding up?”
“I’m better,” Chris replied.
“Where’d you go?” Piper asked.
“All over: London, Athens, Hawaii.” He then handed Piper a small grey bag. “I picked this up for you when I was in Thera, Greece. Sorry Leo, I didn’t know if you’d like jewelry.”
Piper reached into the bag and pulled out a thing silver necklace with a tiny sapphire gem. “Oh Chris this is beautiful. Thank you.”
Chris nodded, “I’m glad you like it. Is Zoey-”
“In her room,” Piper replied.
Zoey was vigorously rubbing the temples of her forehead. The air was warning her of something but she didn’t know what. What was stranger was that all she could think about was Damien. She didn’t know why she was, it just happened. Was she missing him perhaps? She thought she was over him. No, she knew she was over him. It’s all ancient history. But still, she found herself thinking of him; dreaming of him.
Chris knocked on against the wall and Zoey looked up at him. “Chris,” she said with surprise.
“Hey Zoey,” he said as he walked over to her. He was nervous about seeing her because they had kind of left their anger up in the air since he had left.
An awkward silence fell between them.
She was feeling a mixture of emotions; she was glad to see him again because she had missed him while he was away.
She wanted to argue with him about how he just up and left, giving no explanation what so ever and not even letting her know that he was going away. She had found out from Leo a few weeks back when he gave her a letter that Chris had written to her. It was an apology for the way he had acted towards her. It made her cry when she read it for he had poured his heart out to her in the letter.
He told her everything that he had been afraid to tell her for so long. He told her of how he fell for her when she had come to him the night of the funeral. How she had chose him to share her feelings with. He mentioned how he remembered the times she would make him try things he’d never done before and when he had fun being around her. He said that he never meant to hurt her which was why he didn’t speak his mind about her because he was afraid of causing her pain.
Unfortunately he had done what he had been so keen on not doing.
Then there was that feeling of uneasiness that she had been feeling; it was always strongest when she was in the basement.
“Did you get my letter?” Chris asked finally after what seemed like a moment of silence that lasted an eternity.
Zoey nodded, “Yeah; I could never hate you Christopher Perry,” she said. “Believe me I tried but I think it’s impossible.”
Chris smiled faintly, “That’s a good thing, right?”
Zoey smiled, “Well yes, but so is telling your friend that you’re going to be gone for a while.”
“Zoey about that-”
“No Chris, I’m over that; really. You needed it after what you went through.” Zoey walked over to him and hugged him, “I’m just glad you’re back. Also, I envy you because you got to travel.”
Chris laughed while hugging her. He didn’t want to let her go. “Well you’re going to love Europe when you and Jake go this summer.”
Zoey pulled away and looked at him, “You went to Europe? Did you take pictures?”
Chris shook his head, “No, I just saw.” He pulled into his shirt pocket and took out her silver heart shaped locket, “Thanks,” he said.
Zoey smiled as she took back her necklace, “No problem.”
Chris tucked her hair behind her ears then leaned in tentatively and kissed her lips. Zoey kissed him back passionately. He pulled her closer to him and kissed continued to kiss her gently. He broke the kiss and looked into her eyes.
She smiled warmly at him and pulled him in to kiss her again He took direction and continued to kiss her as he led her to the bed. He lowered her gently back onto the bed and continued to kiss her as he lay his hand upon her waist. She kissed him back more passionately but still so very gently and slowly as if she were trying to make the moment last longer. There was that feeling again. She was now thinking of Damien as she kissed him which freaked her out and she broke the kiss.
“Too soon?” Chris said.
“I’m sorry, I just can’t. Things are too weird right now.”
Chris nodded and kissed her lips once more than lay down beside her on the bed and looked at her. She looked tired and sick. “Are you alright?”
Zoey nodded, “I’m fine.”
The two lay there like that for a long time, just in silence.

Zoey stumbled over a couple who were doing some serious making out on the floor. “Sorry,” Zoey said to the glaring faces that looked up at her.
Zoey continued to make her way through the crowded living room which was filled with high school juniors and seniors, all of whom were drinking, laughing and talking loudly or making out. Zoey was already feeling a bit tipsy and was now looking forward to some fresh air. She and Jake had come to the party only because Jake’s cousin said it was cool. He was kind of hesitant at first seeing as Jake and Zoey would be the only freshman there.
Zoey finally got outside. The air was cool against her face and refreshing to her.
“Hey, Hey Zoey,” a man with red hair said, stumbling drunkenly. He put an arm around her. “Come on kid,” Harrison said. “We could be good together.”
Zoey pushed away from him, “Get away from me,” she said. Harrison grabbed her arm and pulled her close to him.
“Get off of me.”
“Jus’ one kiss,” Harrison said. “Come on baby.”
“Get off of me!”
“Hey! Get away from her man,” a tall attractive man with light brown hair and green eyes demanded.
“Hey man, stay out of this,” Harrison warned. “This is between me and Zoey.”
“Funny, because Zoey’s with me. Now I suggest you get out of here before I kick your ass.”
Harrison held up his hands, “Alright man, we were just having fun. No need to get aggressive.”
“Hey are you ok?” the young man asked after Harrison had left.
“Yeah, thank you. I’m Zoey…which you already know.”
“I’m Damien,” the young man replied with a sweet smile. He couldn’t help but notice that she was very pretty.
Zoey smiled and nodded, “Well, thanks again.”
“Anytime Zoey,” Damien replied. “Maybe you should steer clear of him though.”
“I’m going to. I’m calling it a night.”
Damien nodded, “Do you mind if I walked you home? You know, to make sure that creep leaves you alone.”
Zoey smiled, “That’s very kind of you for offering but I came here with someone and am leaving with him.”
“Oh I didn’t know that you were involved.”
“Oh no, I-I’m not, it’s just well, we’re just friends and agreed to leave at the same time.”
Damien smiled, “Oh, ok then.”
Zoey nodded, “Yeah, so I- I should get going. Well, bye.”
Damien nodded, “Wait, will I see you again?”
Zoey shrugged, “I don’t know.”
*****
“Well, she looks happy,” Cole said then turned to Damien who was seated next to him in the passenger seat of the car. “I’m sure you can change that though,” he continued with a sly smile.
“There wouldn’t be anything that I wouldn’t enjoy more than that,” Damien agreed as he continued to stare across the street at the school where Zoey sat on the lawn with Jake, Bryan and Tina and some of her other friends. The group was laughing about something and squinted in the brightness of the sunlight. She was more beautiful than the last time he had seen her with the sunlight giving her a warm glow about her. Her smile radiated brightly and she looked so pure and innocent.
“First things first though,” Cole said interrupting Damien’s thoughts. “We must do things fast, getting all the preparations done by the night of the third full moon. Then we-”
“I know,” Damien said. “Believe me, it will happen just not until I’ve had my fun with her.”
End of chapter two

Zoey smiled as she kissed Damien back. She liked kissing him. She just really liked being with him. The way he mad her feel- words couldn’t describe it. Her heart raced, she felt safe; the rest of the world didn’t matter, it didn’t exist. The two were celebrating their one year anniversary. She didn’t think it would last this long. A couple of times he had been acting really strange. He’d leave and she wouldn’t see him for days, sometimes weeks at a time. In the end she’d ask him where he went and he wouldn’t answer her. The silence was pregnant with something. He would just look at her with an expression of sympathy and regret.
Damien stopped kissing her.
“What’s wrong?” Zoey asked looking at him curiously.
He smiled faintly, “Nothing’s wrong, everything’s great,” he replied quietly. “I’m leaving tomorrow morning and I don’t know when I’m coming back.”
“So that’s it? You’re just going to leave and that’s that?”
Damien sighed and sat up. “Zoey, I have to go. Why can’t you understand that?”
“Because I can’t; I can’t understand what I don’t know. Damien tell me what’s going on.”
Damien looked at her, “I can’t.”
“That’s not fair,” Zoey exclaimed. “You don’t get to just leave without telling me why. Is it another-?”
“No, there’s no other woman,” Damien said.
“Then tell me something. You never really talk to me Damien. Damien please I-”
“I love you,” he said all of a sudden.
Zoey looked at him, “I can’t believe you’re saying that so won’t have to answer.”
He kissed her lips passionately. “I love you Zoey Aguilar,” he whispered looking into her eyes and holding her face in his hands.
Zoey smiled, “I love you too.”
****
Zoey opened her locker to put her psychology books away. An envelope that must have been wedged in the locker fell out and glided to the floor. Zoey picked up the envelope and opened it then read the letter that was inside. She smiled uneasily and glanced around the deserted hall trying to see if the person who had given her the note was still around.
The hall was silent and there was no one there and why would there be? Fifth period had already begun and everyone was in their class. Zoey quickly went to the nearest restroom and checked all the stalls to make sure that no one was there. As soon as she was sure that no one was in there she shimmered out.
The sun streamed through the conservatory windows in many different colors. The room was warm and bright. Piper was seated on the couch smiling as she watched her one year old son Wyatt sleep peacefully in his play pen. The sunlight made him looks so peaceful and angelic.
Zoey shimmered in just then. “Piper,” she began.
Piper put a finger to her lips and pointed to Wyatt. She led Zoey out of the conservatory and into the kitchen. “What’s up? Why aren’t you in school?”
“I was putting away my books when I found this in my locker,” she explained handing Piper the letter.
Piper glanced at it. “It’s a poem. Looks to me like you’ve got your self a secret admirer.”
“He’s supposed t be dead,” Zoey said.
“What? What do you mean?”
“Damien sent me these all the time. He’d leave poetry for me, flowers, and letters. He always did this to make up for being gone for such a long time.”
“Wait a minute Zoey, we vanquished him remember?”
“Yeah but you also vanquished Cole and look what happened. Piper I can’t-”
“I know Zoey,” Piper said calmly. “Right now let’s not get too paranoid. It could be like I said a secret admirer.
Zoey nodded, “Maybe you’re right.
****
Zoey was looking through her old shoe box where she kept hidden all of the letters and poems that Damien had given her. Why she kept them, she wasn’t quite sure. Probably because he was the first guy- no, the only guy she had ever loved and even through all that he had put her through…Zoey sighed. She felt disgusted with herself for keeping them. She glanced at the newest poem and at one of the old ones. Chris knocked on the wall as he descended the stairs.
“Hey Chris,” she said quickly patting down her hair and putting the lid on the box.
“Hey,” he said. She looked tired and seemed to have lost weight since the last time he had seen her before he had left for a much needed get away. It was the first time he noticed this since he had got back. “I was going to grab a bite to eat and was wondering if you’d like to join me,” Chris said.
Zoey smiled faintly, “Thanks for the offer but-”
“You know, I’ve decided that I’m not taking no for an answer,” he said with a sly grin.
Zoey laughed, “Sounds like someone I know.”
Chris grabbed her hand and helped her up. “Let’s go.”
“Wait, at least let me change,” Zoey said.
“You look fine in what you’re in,” Chris said acknowledging her black t-shirt and dark blue hip hugger jeans. “Trust me.” Chris wrapped his arms around her waist.
“What are we-?”
“We’ll get there more quickly this way,” he answered. Zoey folded her arms around his neck and he orbed him out of there.
“Ok, I don’t think I’ll get used to orbing,” Zoey said when the two had reached their destination.
“You get used to it,” Chris said.
Zoey looked around and noticed that the two were in a small cobble stone alley. As the two walked out they saw a large white building and small vender stores all lined up wall to wall. An elderly woman in a black shawl draped loosely over her shoulders walked down the street and as she passed them by she greet a woman in Greek.
Zoey smiled and turned around and looked at Chris, “Where are we?”
Chris grinned, “Greece, the island of Thera to be exact.”
Zoey’s jaw dropped, “Oh my goodness.”
He laughed, “Follow me,” he said and grabbed hold of her hand.
He led her down a couple of block and the two entered a restaurant.
“How can I help you” the lady behind the desk asked.
“Ah yes, I have a reservation.”
“Last name please?”
“Perry, Chris Perry.”
The lady smiled and nodded, “Follow me.”
She led them through the restaurant and out onto the patio area where there was a beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea. “I hope you enjoy,” the lady said and handed them the menus.
Chris held out Zoey’s chair for her. “Oh my goodness Chris, you did this all for me?”
Chris nodded, “I thought you’d like to get away for a while. Also I'm making up for not taking you to the prom.”
Zoey smiled and kissed his lips sweetly.
“Is that a thank you? I couldn’t tell,” Chris said with a sly smile.
Zoey smiled and kissed him again.
Damien watched the two from afar. This was not acceptable. His eyes flickered maliciously.

Chapter four
Damien kissed Zoey’s hand. The two were at his house and were watching a movie on the couch. He had his arms around her and she leaned up against him and they just watched the movie. “How does it feel to be seventeen?”
Zoey smiled, “It feels alright, it’s not that different from sixteen. Ronnie and Summer say that my life would change now that I’m older but then again they say that all the time.”
Damien smiled and kissed her hair. “Happy Birthday,” he said and handed her a wrapped gift.
“Damien, you didn’t have to get me anything.”
“Just open it.”
Zoey tore away the pale yellow wrapping paper and opened the brown box revealing an old 1920’s camera. “Damien, where’d you get this?” Zoey asked as she glanced down into the eye hole of the camera. Her eyes were wide with joy as she examined the camera.
“I found it at a pawn shop. Do you like it?”
“I love it,” she replied as she put the camera down on the table and hugged him. “You’re a great boyfriend you know that?” She kissed him passionately. Damien slid his hand up her sweater and continued to kiss her. Zoey broke the kiss and took of her maroon sweater revealing a light pink silky camisole. She leaned in to kiss him.
“Are you sure about this?” Damien asked looking Zoey in the eye.
Zoey nodded, “Yes; I’ve never been more sure.”
Damien smiled and took her hand and led her up the stairs.
It was the next morning and the sun was shining brightly. Zoey opened her eyes and smiled. She turned her head and found an empty spot on the bed. She sat up holing the black sheets over her chest. How could he jus t leave like that? She picked up her camisole off the ground and put it on mumbling to herself. “I swear, if I see him I’m going to-”
“Good morning,” Damien said as he walked into the bedroom carrying a breakfast tray. “I present you with cereal a la milk.” Zoey laughed as she scooted over to make room for him on the bed. “I would cook only I’m more of a stick-it-in-the-microwave kind of guy,” Damien explained and gave her a kiss on the lips.
“Oooh, kix, my favorite,” Zoey said. “I though you left when I didn’t see you.”
Damien kissed her lips. “I wouldn’t leave you,” he said. “I won’t leave you.”
Zoey smiled playfully, “Promise?” she teased.
“I promise,” he replied. “How could I stop loving you?”
Zoey laughed and kissed his lips. He laid her back down on the bed. “What about breakfast?” she asked.
Damien put the tray on the ground then kissed her again. “I think we should work up an appetite,” he said and kissed her.
****
“Are you even paying attention?” Leo asked Zoey. It was the next day and Leo had been schooling Zoey on her magic since magic school hadn’t worked out for her. When Chris had left, Leo seized the opportunity to help Zoey become better acquainted with her Wiccan duties. He had sent her to magic school to learn more about her craft and more basic potion and spells skills. Unfortunately, she seemed extremely bored in the classes and was a fast learner. She complained over and over again that she didn’t need to go to Hogwarts and that she already had enough school and homework as it was.
Besides, during her power exercises she always received cold stares every time she shimmered. She was tired of being called a demon behind her back. Eventually Leo pulled her out of magic school and took it upon himself to teach her.
“Huh? What?” Zoey said looking at Leo and then the books in front of her.
Leo glanced at were she had been looking and found Chris who, upon noticing Leo, walked out away quickly. Leo sighed, “Zoey we have to talk.”
“Talk about what?” Zoey asked.
Leo took a seat at the table. “Now, I know you have a long history of breaking the rules but there is one rule you can’t break. You and Chris can’t happen.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean you and Chris can’t start a relationship. He’s from a different time and eventually he has to go back. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“I know he has to go back eventually and thanks for your concern but I think I’ll be fine.”
The door bell rang. “I’ll get it,” Phoebe volunteered. She went over to the door and when she opened it she didn’t find anyone but instead a large, thin rectangular black box with a black ribbon on it.
“Zoey, you’ve got a package,” Phoebe announced as she entered the living room.
“Oooh, looks like someone’s secret admirer really likes you,” Piper said.
“What secret admirer?” Paige and Chris asked in unison. Zoey didn’t answer them and opened the package. Inside were a dozen beautiful blood red roses with a few stems of baby’s breath lying against a silky black cloth.
“Roses, how sweet,” Phoebe said.
Zoey glanced at Chris. “I didn’t send them,” he said to her look.
“Wait, there’s a card,” Phoebe said handing the small square envelope to Zoey.
Zoey read the card. “No,” she said shaking her head and backing away from the box. Her eyes began to water.
“Zoey what is it?” Leo asked.
Zoey began rubbing the temples of her forehead. She felt him in the air. He was all around her and very much alive. “He’s-he…it’s from him,” Zoey said.
“Who sent them?” Leo asked.
“Damien,” Piper answered.
“What? How’s that-?”
“Cole,” Phoebe said angrily.
Zoey walked towards the door.
“Where are you going?” Paige asked.
Zoey put on the black jacket that Chris had given her a few months back. “I just- I just need to leave; I can’t be here right now. Leo please, Jake-”
Leo nodded and orbed out.

Sunlight streamed through the stained glass windows casting blues, greens, reds and yellows all over the dark cherry wood pews and wine colored carpet of the church. Zoey walked down the long isle through the nearly empty church. Her eyes nervously glancing here and there looking suspiciously at the four people gathered there silently praying. She looked around again then knelt down and blessed herself before sitting down on a pew.
She sat there for quite a while not really sure of what she should do. She had never been baptized nor had she ever performed a first holy communion let alone study the bible. She did go to church once in a while though as she grew up in the different families she had lived with. She didn’t know though if she should pray, but for what? For it all to not be true? And to whom would she pray to? Should she pray to God? Would her prayer even count seeing as she was a witch? She was still debating this when someone called her name causing her to jump.
“I didn’t mean to frighten you,” Father O’Reilly apologized. He was an elderly man probably in his sixties. He had white hair which he wore parted to the side and he wore thin silver spectacles with rectangular lenses.
Zoey smiled, “It’s good to see you Father O’Reilly.”
“What brings you to church Zoey Aguilar?”
“I’m looking an answer I guess,” Zoey replied with a faint smile.
“Maybe I can be of assistance,” he offered taking a seat beside her. “What’s the problem?”
Zoey smiled, “It’s complicated.” She paused, “See, I have this friend who isn’t the same person that she was in August of last year. She’s a- she’s unique.”
“Go on,” Father O’Reilly said.
Zoey sighed, “Since she’s now unique, she can’t tell the world what- who she is. To top it off she fell in love once upon a time but he changed and then she- broke up with him.”
“Was this change violent?”
“Yes,” Zoey replied quietly looking down at her knees. “He became a monster. I never knew- I mean she never knew he could be that way. She loved him and-” blood spurted onto face and lap. Screams from the other people filled her ears. Zoey turned and screamed. Father O’Reilly’s eyes were wide and staring back at her. An energy had hit him from close behind that it had burned a hole straight though his chest. He fell off of the pew.
Zoey looked up and saw Damien smiling. “Miss me tiger?” he asked approaching her.
Zoey ran out the other side of the pew but Damien blinked and appeared in front of her. She screamed but he held tight onto her.
“I told you that I would never leave you,” he said.
“Leave me alone!” Zoey yelled.
Damien smiled, “Not until we have some fun.” He turned and saw the frantic people running towards the exit and he lit energy balls and threw them at the four people; while the energy balls were in the air he blinked with Zoey and appeared in front of the people just as the energy balls hit them. The blood from the force of the energy balls splattered all over Zoey and Damien. Zoey screamed.
One of the people had dodged the ball and so Damien, with a simple motion of his hand, caused the young man to rise up high into the air; the young man tried to wrench free an invisible force that was restricting his breathing.
“This is for you tiger,” Damien and with a clenching of his fist the man’s neck cracked and the bone popped out from beneath the skin.
Two nuns rushed in from all the noise that they had heard and screamed at the sight of the all the bodies. Damien turned and grinned maliciously and sent two fire balls at them. Zoey managed to get out of his grasp and divert the fire balls off course.
Damien shoved her away and blinked and appeared in front of the nuns. “That’s ok; I was getting bored with the hands off thing.” An atheme appeared in his hand and he thrust it into one of the nuns’ stomach. The other nun screamed and ran but he grabbed her and broke her neck with a simple, effortless snap.
He turned and saw Zoey crawling towards the exit. He smiled and blinked and was before her. He picked her up off of the ground with his bloody hands.
“Oh no you don’t,” he said.
Zoey was crying, “Please, please let go of me.”
“Not with out a kiss.” Damien kissed her lips.
****
“Oh my god, Zoey,” Piper said rushing running over to her. She had suddenly appeared in the living room. Zoey was covered in blood and was hugging her knees close to her chest. She was shaking all over and just staring.
“Zoey,” Chris said kneeling beside her and placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Don’t touch me!” Zoey screamed and crawled back away from him.
“Leo!” Paige yelled.
Leo orbed in and rushed over to Zoey who was crouched in the corner of the wall. “He-he…they’re all dead.” She looked at the blood on her hands and clothes. “It stains; must wash – dirty, dirty- screams.” She began rubbing her hands together vigorously as if she were trying to wash them and then started peeling off her clothes.
Leo stopped her from taking off her garments but she flinched when his hands came near to her.
“Who’s dead?” Phoebe asked.
“Church, the church; he- he-” Zoey slammed her fist into the wall. “His hands- he- they were on me. His lips.” She slammed her fist into the wall again this time causing her knuckles to crack and bleed.
“I need to take care of her,” Leo said. His voice was filled with a note of fear the sisters had never heard him use. “Zoey I’m going to help you,” Leo said gently. He took hold of her hand and orbed them out.
“I’m going to kill that son of-a-b!tch,” Chris said angrily.
“And get yourself killed in the process?” Paige said. “I don’t think so.”
“Paige is right,” Piper said. “Besides, I don’t think that’s what Zoey would want you to do.”
“Look at what he did to her!” Chris exclaimed, his voice quivering with the anger that flooded him. “He put her through all of that; torcher is what he did.”
“We know but-”
“No, you don’t,” Chris said. “He nearly drover her mad. He touched her-I don’t even…if I found out that he-”
“He wouldn’t do that,” Phoebe said suddenly. The three looked at her oddly. “He still loves her.”
“Yeah but Phoebe, Damien is a sick, twisted homicidal demon,” Paige pointed out. “How do you know-?”
“Because Cole was that way too. He loved me too much to hurt me, at least not physically.”
End of chapter five

Here's a cliff's notes version of my thoughts while reading this.
How awful it must be for Zoey to keep having these flashbacks, to the point that she feels uncomfortable around Chris, since being with him is such a reminder of the time when she truly loved someone.
And while Leo is right in a way to warn her away from Chris, I can totally understand her not taking his advice.
That last part, with Damien killing all those people while keeping Zoey helpless to do anything was just so cruel. Amazingly written, but horrifying. I hope Leo can do something for her. wiccangirl311 Charmed Cafe Member Posts: 641 (8/31/04 9:16 pm) Reply Re: Meant to be (Part One) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter six
“Did you have fun?” Cole growled as Damien entered the study of the place they had set up in.
“As a matter of fact, I did,” Damien replied with a smile. He took a seat in the big, black leather chair behind the large oak desk.
“Good, because while you were frolicking around, I was busy preparing for tomorrow night.”
Damien laughed as he picked up a jar filled of blue powder. “Relax Balthazar, everything will fall into place.”
“It better, getting that horrid little witch-”
“Her name is Zoey,” Damien said in her defense.
Cole smiled, “Like I was saying, this is our only time to-”
“I know, she’ll be ours in time.”
****
Piper clicked off her phone. “Well that was Darryl,” she announced as she entered the attic. “Apparently there was mass murder at St. Peter and Paul’s church.”
“Poor Zoey,” Paige said. “How could he put her through all of that?”
“Who knows,” Piper said. “What matters now is figuring out who resurrected him and how do we kill him?”
“I’m with Piper,” Phoebe said. “Although for who it could be Cole or the Ancient. Maybe even both.” Phoebe stopped mixing the potion and glanced at Chris who stood behind the Book of Shadows restlessly flipping through the pages. “Chris, are you ok?”
“No, they’ve been gone for four hours now,” Chris replied not looking up from the book.
“You really care about her don’t you?” Paige said. Just then Leo orbed in with Zoey. She looked pale and tired.
“Zoey how are you?” Phoebe asked.
“I’ve been better,” she replied in a distant tone.
Chris walked up to her and hugged her. “Are you sure you’re alright?” he asked looking her in the eye.
Zoey nodded, “I will be when I vanquish that…thing. But for now I’m as good as I’m going to be; sane that is.” Chris nodded and Zoey kissed him on the lips then stepped back away from him.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea for us to be together.”
“What?” Chris said.
“We can’t be together,” Zoey said firmly and clearly.
Chris laughed, “You put her up to this didn’t you?” he addressed Leo.
“Chris I didn’t-”
“No, these past couple of days you’ve done nothing but say-”
“Leo has nothing to do with this,” Zoey interrupted.
Chris turned to Zoey. “I thought-”
Zoey shook her head. “It was just an infatuation,”
“What about Greece?” he said determined to have her say other wise. They had a lovely dinner by sunset and had walked about the town hand in hand just exploring.
“It didn’t mean anything,” Zoey said looking him in the eyes.
Chris shook his head, “I don’t believe you. I know you want to be with me just like I want to be with you.”
“Well you need to believe it,” Zoey said harshly. “I don’t want to be with you. What part aren’t you getting about this?”
“Everything Zoey; this is not you talking,” he said. “I know you don’t want to say this.”
“Well I do,” Zoey replied coldly. “What- did you think I’d be in love with you and it’d be happily ever after? Well I’m sorry but it’s not like that. I don’t love you and don’t want to be with you. Am I clear now?”
Chris looked at her, his expression full of hurt, then he orbed out.
Zoey looked down to the floor.
“Zoey, why did you just-?”
“Because I had to,” Zoey said and wiped away some silent tears. “I’d rather have him hate me and help us, think with his head than have him care for me and think with his heart and get himself killed. You don’t know how jealous Damien can get. I can’t have Chris die.” Zoey sighed, “He can’t know do you all understand me? Especially you Phoebe, I need your word.”
“You have my word,” Phoebe said. “Do you really care about him though?”
Zoey nodded, “More than words can express.”
It was the next day and the Ancient walked into the fire lit study. “Are you ready?” the Ancient asked Damien who was adjusting the collar of his black button up shirt.
Damien smiled, “What groom wouldn’t be?”
“Remember Alastor, the Charmed Ones will be anticipating you coming for her.”
Damien nodded, “Yes but they don’t know why I’m coming for her nor will they know that my best man will be accompanying me.” Damien turned to Cole, “Are we picking up a certain young lady as well?”
Cole shook his head. “No, I have lost all interest in Phoebe except to watch her suffer that is.”
“Then let’s get the last things in order,” Damien said with a sly smile. “After all, I want my bride to be happy.”
****
“That won’t work,” Chris said as he paced the attic. With a flick of his wrist he turned the page of the black leather bound book telepathically.
“What about the spell we used last time?” Paige asked. Chris shook his head, ‘NO, he’s going to be expecting that.”
“Then what about a power of three spell?” Phoebe said impatiently.
“Look, it’s going to take a lot more than a spell,” Chris replied. Leo orbed in with Zoey arguing.
“Leo I am not a little girl anymore so you don’t have to keep trying to protect me all the time.”
“Zoey, you don’t know what else he might have planned for you. Especially if he’s working for the Ancient, his powers might have increased. I need to take you some place safe.”
“No, safe doesn’t work for me. I went to church yesterday just so he can kill the priest I’ve known since I was four. I had to watch six other people die because of him and my powers wouldn’t work but one time. I won’t let anyone else die.”
Leo nodded, “Fine but you’re not to leave the house. Do you understand me?”
“Yes; but I need you put up a cloaking spell around Jake and his family, along with Bryan and Tina.”
Leo nodded and orbed out.
“What was that all about?” Paige asked.
“Nothing, it’s just Leo hung about school all day long. I tell you this has been a long day.”
“I’ll check down stairs for more ingredients,” Chris said not looking at Zoey. When he passed her the air turned cold and tense.
“Well,” Zoey said with a false smile. “I think we’d better find a vanquishing spell.”
“We’ve looked,” Phoebe said picking up the book Chris had been looking through. She gasped and opened her eyes.
“What’d you see?” Piper asked concerned by the look on her sister’s face.
“Chris; I saw him die,” Phoebe replied.
“What? When?” Paige asked.
Zoey shimmered out.
Chris was staring into the ingredients cabinet when Zoey shimmered into the kitchen.
“Hey Chris,” she said nervously as she looked around.
“Hey,” he answered back boredly.
“So…how are you?” she asked trying to make conversation as she peeked through the blinds on the windows.
“What do you care?” he asked slamming the cabinet door shut with force.
“I don care,” Zoey said. “I care because-”
“Cut the crap Zoey,” Chris said angrily. “You’re nothing but a tease. You know, I thought- never mind; it doesn’t matter what I think right?” He left the kitchen and Zoey followed after him.
“Chris-”
“Zoey will you just leave me alone?” Chris said turning to face her. “I don’t want anything to do with you right now or ever again. Do you got that? You want it this way and you’re going to have this way.”
Chris flew into the wall. “I’d be careful with you talk to her if I were you,” Damien warned.
Paige, Phoebe and Piper came running down the stairs and with a wave of his hand, in black orbs, barrier crystals trapped the sisters in a force field.
“We can’t have the three of you interrupting,” Cole said with a grin. “You understand, don’t you?”
“Cole, you son of a-”
“Ah-ah Phoebe,” Cole interrupted. “Don’t start with me. This has nothing to do with you, you egomaniac.”
Damien slammed Chris into the wall again. Zoey sent Damien flying with a powerful and violent gust of wind. Damien blinked and appeared in front of Chris. He grabbed Chris by the throat and lifted him off the ground, outstretching his arm above him. Zoey lit a green fire ball.
“Ah-ah tiger, throw that and the white lighter dies,” Damien warned, tightening his grip on Chris’ throat. Chris tried to break free but the more he tried, the tighter the grasp became.
“Leave him alone Damien,” Zoey demanded.
Damien grinned mischievously, “Only if you come with me. Marry me.”
“Never,” Zoey said.
“Well, if you’re going to be like that.” A dark lighter’s arrow appeared in Damien’s hand.
“Wait!” Zoey said. “I’ll marry you on the condition that he lives; they all live.”
Damien smiled, “Done, only, when we’re married you will have nothing to do with them.”
“Alright,” Zoey said. “I promise.” Cole extended his hand towards Zoey. “Let him go first.”
Damien dropped Chris.
“Zoey don’t!” Paige yelled.
Damien walked over and kissed Zoey’s lips then grabbed hold of her other hand and the three blinked out.
Chris coughed several times before getting up and freeing the sisters.
“Are you alright?” Piper asked.
“I’ll be fine, but-”
“We’ll find a way to get her back,” Phoebe assured glancing at her sisters.

“Here you are my lady,” a black woman with white body paint in stripes said; she held out a black silk dress with sheer black material that fell in layers loosely, cascading from the waist to the floor.
Zoey snatched the dress away from the woman. “Leave me.”
The black woman’s eyes flickered, “That is not allowed my lady; he does not-” she burst into violent green flames. Zoey was losing her patience.
“You know,” Cole said entering the bedroom and shutting the door behind him. “You’re killing all the help.”
Zoey glared at him, “Go away.”
Cole smiled as he watched her with cautious eyes. “I’m afraid I can’t do that,” he said and took a seat on the dark chair in the room. “Damien wants his bride- you know how he gets when he’s cranky.”
“I’ll go, I promise.”
“Promises aren’t valid in the Underworld; you’ll come to find that out in time.”
“How do you know Damien?” she asked suddenly.
Cole smiled, “We go way back; I guess you can say he’s like a brother to me. Now get dressed.”
‘Get out and I’ll-”
“Nice try; now-”
“Turn your back then.”
“Rules are to keep my eyes on you. He says you can be quite the fighter when you’re forced to do something you don’t want to do. Now get dressed.”
“If you just turn your back I won’t kill you.”
Cole smiled, “Sorry, now you’re wasting time. Get dressed.”
Zoey glared at him icily. She then unbuttoned her blouse.
****
The moon light shined down brightly upon the tomb stones, creating long, dark shadows which took the form of “monsters”.
Cole led Zoey into the same mausoleum he had used once himself. The candle light cast a pale yellow glow about the people and things in it. As Cole and Zoey made their way down the aisle, Cole caught eyes with Damien; they’re plan was half complete.
Damien smiled lovingly at Zoey who looked at him coldly. “Come on tiger, it’s your wedding day,” he said.
“This isn’t a joyous occasion; we’re in the fricken grave yard you cheap dill hole; it doesn’t change no matter how you decorated it.”
“It’s not really about the place,” Damien replied with a grin. “It’s about the idea behind it.”
The Ancient cleared his throat. “First we bind these two together; we bind them by darkness, by evil, by love as a union.” He held up a silver chalice and the moon light broke through the mausoleum wall then hit the chalice, then disappeared.
“With blood we seal the marriage; with blood they are bound to each other.” The Ancient pricked both Damien’s and Zoey’s fingers, collecting their blood in the chalice.
Damien took a sip from the chalice and handed it to Zoey.
She locked eyes with him and inhaled deeply then took a sip.
The thickness of their blood mixed with the rest of the potion touched her lips in an icy cold that she had never felt before. The union was complete.
****
Zoey cried out in pain as she held her stomach. Her insides felt like they were burning. It had been two into her marriage and she felt more miserable than she could have imagined. She held onto the dresser to keep from falling over from the pain. Suddenly the pain disappeared; she felt a bit funky but there was no more pain.
Damien entered the bedroom and walked over to her. “How’s my bride?” he asked as he stood behind her and placed his on her hips. He kissed her neck softly. Zoey just stared at the reflection of the two of them in the mirror as his lips touched her skin yet again.
She turned around not wanting too- but she was feeling odd- and kissed his lips. Damien smiled and returned her kiss while leading her over to the bed. He laid her down ad kissed her neck, collar bone and throat. Zoey turned her head, silent tears streamed down her cheeks. She didn’t love him. Her body may belong to him now, but her heart belonged to someone else.
He slid the straps of her dress off her shoulders and kissed them gently. She kept thinking of Chris and by thinking of him at the same time that her body was being violated she became even more sick than what she had been feeling since taking a sip from the chalice.
With violent force she shoved Damien off of her. “No.”
Damien stared at her, “It’s our honey moon.”
Zoey shook her head, “Then it will be a cold one.” She turned out the light and crawled under the sheets. She didn’t know what was going on with her. Part of her was glad that she had done what she did but another part of her wanted Damien. This was not like her at all.

Zoey smiled smugly as she walked with confidence and a killer air about her down hall. Heads turned her ways as she passed. She seemed to radiate with energy. She felt power, she felt fear and she felt hatred. The smell of it all filled the air with a sugary sweetness.
Her hair was down to her shoulders, which was the only covering they received. Her pale off-the-shoulder top fitted loosely and fell to the top of her black jeans’ waist line. All this though, did not distract attention from the blue sapphire stone set in a white gold band which she wore on her left ring finger.
“Zoey!” Jake called as he ran up to her. “Zoey, when I heard of what happened I thought that son of a b!tch took you for good.”
“Be careful Jake, that’s my husband you’re talking about,” Zoey said with a smile.
Jake looked at her, “Wait-”
Zoey held out her hand showing off the ring. “Who knew right? But don’t worry, I’m still you’re friend, just now I’m Queen of the Underworld. It’s so much fun, the power, the authority. I put fear into my minions.” She laughed, “It’s awesome.”
They stopped at her locker; she opened it and put some of her books in it.
Jake looked at his best friend. “But why?”
“Why ask why?” Zoey laughed, “Jake, I can give you anything you want, just name it and it’s yours. I’m still Zoey Marie Aguilar whom went to kindergarten with you and who shared my first kiss with you in the sixth grade.” Zoey’s locker slammed.
“Well Hoey-Zoey-Free-Marie Aguilar, you better have a damn good explanation for why my Reggie was all over you in third period.”
Zoey turned and looked at Britney with cold eyes. “What can I say? The boy’s found taste…again.”
Britney glared at her, “Excuse me?”
Zoey gave her a look. “I didn’t stutter. Maybe he’s tired of having what everyone else has already had.” Zoey made to walk away but Britney blocked her from doing so. “Move,” Zoey said impatiently.
“Or what?” Britney challenged. “You’re not going anywhere you stupid wh0re. I don’t know who you think you are but this little act yours isn’t going to fly with me; you got that? You may be fooling everyone else, including Reggie, but you don’t fool me. You’re nothing but the orphan who cries attention. The next time you better think twice before you go making move’s on somebody else’s boyfriend. Consider this a warning; next time I’m not going to be so nice.”
Zoey laughed, “Wow, I’m impressed. Not only have you’ve gone from being the saccharine @#%$ that everyone despises, but you’re dishing out threats.” Zoey smiled, “Only one problem though, you have no idea who you’re messing with cheer leader. So I suggest you go back to your pom poms and you’re so called boyfriend.”
“Maybe you haven’t heard,” Britney said firmly. “But Reggie and I are going on three years and he loves me. He’s not interested in skanks.”
Zoey smiled sympathetically, “Keep telling yourself that Britney if it helps you to sleep at night. In the mean time get out of my way.”
Britney shoved Zoey into the lockers. “Make me.” Everyone else in the hall stopped what they were doing and stared at the two girls.
In the blink of an eye Zoey grabbed Britney and slammed her back violently into the lockers raising her off the ground a bit. Zoey’s eyes flickered viciously. “What was that?”
“Zoey let’s go,” Jake said.
Zoey grabbed Britney-who’s feet were back on the ground- by the chin and smiled, “NO, let me have some fun with her.”
Britney’s eyes filled with fear.
“Zoey,” Jake repeated more firmly.
Zoey leaned in and whispered in Britney’s ear, “You’re lucky. Don’t pull that stunt again if you know what’s good for you.”
She let go of Britney and straightened out Britney’s jean jacket. She then tapped Britney on the nose with her fore finger. “See you later,” Zoey said sweetly.

“Just- if you see her, be careful,” Phoebe said holding Jason’s hands in hers. Jason nodded and a feeling of concern swept over his her. “Honey, what’s the matter?”
Jason shook his head, “Nothing, it’s- I remember telling Zoey that she could never be a demon.”
“But she’s not.”
“I know,” Jason said. “It’s just, her inner demons have gotten the best of her. She’s only 18 Phoebe, she’s still a girl.” He laughed.
“What, what is it?”
Jason smiled, “Even though I’ve only known her for several months, it feels like the younger sister I never had.”
Phoebe smiled. Just then Jake walked into the manor.
“Sorry the door was open and this is an emergency.”
“What is it? Are you alright?” Phoebe asked.
Jake nodded, “I’m fine, but Zoey’s not.”
“Wait, you saw her?” Jason asked.
“Yeah at school,” Jake replied. “Look, her Britney- the school b!tch- got into it a bit; you should have seen the look in Zoey’s eyes. I’ve never seen her that way before; if I wasn’t there who knows what she would have done to Britney. Plus she’s married to Damien and loving it. What the hell is going on?”
“She must have performed the dark version of the hand fasting,” Chris answered as he and Paige came down the stairs.
“What?” Piper said
“Well to make a long story short, by performing the hand fasting on the third night of the full moon, drinking some blood and being wedded in a cemetery, she’s bound herself to Damien; for ever,” Paige explained. “Not to mention that she’ more powerful now by being evil and all.”
Chris sighed. “Which means we need to do something fast.”
“You mean we could lose her for good?” Phoebe asked.
“That and I can’t risk her taking the life of an innocent.”
“But how do we stop her, Cole, Damien and the Ancient?” Piper asked.
“I don’t know,” Chris said.

Jason was talking on the phone with the Italian partners when Zoey entered his office closing the door behind her. She was dressed in black tight fitting jeans and heels and a dark plum colored blouse she wore. Her big brown eyes were heavily lined in charcoal colored eye liner. “Hey Jason,” she said with a smile. “We need to talk.”
Jason told the man whom he had been talking to that he would call him back and hung up the phone. “Zoey, what are you doing here?” he asked keeping an eye on her. He reached under his desk with one hand and grabbed a potion vile that Phoebe had given him incase she showed up.
“Like I said, we need to talk.”
Jason threw the vile at Zoey but she raised her hand and the vile cracked when it hit her palm. Jason tried to run but Zoey grabbed him and set him back in a chair in front of the desk. Jason looked at her horrified as she pulled out the long shard of glass that had dug deep into her palm. Red dark red blood trickled down her hand and wrist.
“That hurt,” she said looking at Jason harshly. He flinched as she leaned in. “Relax,” Zoey said waving a tissue in front of him that she had taken from the desk. “You know, if I was here to kill you, I would have done it already,” she said as she wiped up the blood with the tissues. She mumbled some magic words and the wound healed.
“Then why are you here? What do you want to talk about?” he asked, watching her as she took a seat in front of him.
She scooted the chair closer to him so that they were almost nose to nose. Zoey smiled, “How are you Jason? How’s the engaged life going?”
“It’s great,” he said confused by why she was asking.
“Just great?” she shrugged and leaned back in her seat. “How are those lovely soon to be in-laws of yours doing? Along with the fiancé?”
“Why do you care?” Jason asked suspiciously.
“Because I do,” Zoey said matter of factly. She laughed, “Is it hard to believe that I’m still human? I care about the sisters, about you, and about Leo.”
“And what about Chris?”
“I’m married,” Zoey said firmly.
“To the same monster who murdered your parents,” he pointed out.
“I love being married to Damien,” she said. “You know, for a guy who’s engaged, I thought that you’d understand. I’m married and in-”
“Love?” Jason supplied.
Zoey glared at him, “Shut up; this isn’t about me.”
Jason looked at her with sympathizing eyes. “Zoey, you can still get out of this. You don’t love him, you-”
“Shut up!” Zoey lit a green fire ball in her hand; Jason glanced at it nervously. Zoey’s eyes were pure black. She blinked and they returned back to normal. She extinguished the fire ball. Jason let out a sigh of relief.
“Tell the sisters to get Jake. Have them tell Jake to show them where I keep my diaries. In there will be a small old brown hard cover book. The book will give them all the information they need on the Ancient.” With that Zoey left the office.
****
“How do you know where her diaries are?” Paige asked curiously as they descended the basement stairs.
Jake grinned sheepishly, “I kind of, sort of, came across them on accident. One fell open.”
Phoebe looked at him, “Uh-huh. You’re lucky she doesn’t turn you into a rat.”
“Actually she threatened to turn me into a toad. That was after I apologized.”
“What was the first one?” Paige asked.
“I’d rather not say,” he said as he placed a hand to his belt. He knocked on the side of the large, dark brown bookshelf. A small board popped open and inside was the book, exactly where she said it would be.
Phoebe reached in and retrieved the book. She opened the book to where a burgundy ribbon had booked marked the page.
“How long has she had this with her?” Paige wondered.
“She just placed it there,” Chris said. “This is Zoey we’re talking about; she wouldn’t hide this from us.”
“I agree with Chris,” Jake said.
“So are you two cool with each other again?” Piper asked. “You two have done nothing but give each other the cold shoulder.”
Jake sighed, “The scumbag cares for Zoey and right now we need to find her.”
Piper nodded, “Well let’s take the book up to the attic.”
Chris sighed, “Look I never meant to hurt her.”
Jake turned to him, “Then why did you?”
“I don’t know why.”
“She trusted you,” Jake said. “Zoey tells me everything, its how our relationship works. She told me you promised that you weren’t going to hurt her. You know, I was against the idea of her and you going out and that night when she came crying to me I was right. You were just like all the other ass wholes that hurt her. Now she apparently forgives you a little but what happened won’t ever be forgotten. She’s not some girl you can just play around with and take advantage of. I’ve seen what creeps like those have done to her, especially Damien. She doesn’t deserve that, you know man?”
Chris was silent as he listened to all of this. “You love her don’t you?”
“More than anything,” Jake replied. He then sighed as the thoughts of not being able to be with her crossed his mind. “Look, she’s crazy a bout you; you’re all she ever talks about. I haven’t seen her this way in the longest time. If you hurt her again, I swear you will regret it.”
****
“This is interesting,” Jake said as he continued to flip through the pages of the Book of Shadows. “You have actually seen all of these demons?” They were now once again gathered in the basement.
“Yup, well almost all of them,” Piper said. “Actually all of them if you count the pictures in there,” Piper continued with a smile.
Jake nodded and continued to flip through the book. “What’s a Lazareth demon?”
“It’s a lower level demon that is usually hired by someone else,” Piper replied. “They’re very vicious and can only fully die if you bury their remains in a cemetery.”
Jake nodded and then flipped the next page. “Wow, I didn’t know the boogie man existed.”
Chris grinned mischievously. “You know,” he said slowly, “there’s a fare more powerful creature than the boogie man. It’s called the Woogie; we’re standing on it.”
“You’re lying,” Jake said. “There’s no such thing as a Woogie.”
Chris shook his head. “No man, I’m not. The Woogie does exist and it has the power to possess its victims. The victims are like a host for it. It’s how the Woogie lives; the people are like pawns to it. They do whatever it wants them to do. It lives right beneath the house; in fact like I said earlier, we’re standing on it.”
“Chris stop it,” Piper said trying to keep from smiling at the semi-afraid look that was displayed on Jake’s face. Then she smiled. “Besides, it’s trapped in the earth. It is only attracted to those who are scared.”
“Y-You’re serious?” Jake said then gulped.
Piper laughed, “Ok, I lied on the whole being attracted to fear thing. It’s just attracted to the nearest body. The rest was all true.”
Jake nodded, “So then I have nothing to worry about then?”
Just then Cole and Zoey shimmered in hand in hand.
“Aww how sweet,” Zoey said with a saccharine tone in her voice. “Cole, they’re throwing us a party.”
Piper raised her hands to blow up Cole but he deflected it with a blue shield causing the power to be thrown back at Piper sending her flying across the basement.
“Nice to see you too Piper,” Cole said with a grin. “Like the new power?”
Zoey smiled sadly, “I’m sorry to do this but unfortunately we’re a bit behind schedule.” With a wave of her hand crystals appeared in black smoke and created a force field that trapped them all. Cole smiled smugly at them as Zoey held out her hand in front of her.
A large smile spread across her face and a hungry look appeared in her eyes. “Here,” she said taking hold of Cole’s hand.
He closed his eyes, “That would be what we want.” Cole began to chant some words and the basement shook. The floor cracked open.
“No, don’t!” Chris yelled from behind the force field. He made a move forward but received a giant shock from the protective barrier.
Soon a dark shadow rose out from the crack in the ground.
With a sudden motion, Zoey reached out as if to seize the shadow. The shadow froze and a green mist came out of it ad went into Zoey then Cole; at the same time a faint yellow mist rose up out of the nexus. Cole, with a motion of his hand, conjured a glass vile and the yellow mist entered the vile. Zoey and Cole exchanged smiles with each other. With a wave of her hand, the crystals disappeared and the two shimmered out.
The Woogie unfroze and the turned on the three.
“I am light, I am one too young to fight; go back to where shadows dwell, you cannot have this Halliwell. Be gone from my sight, take away this endless night,” Piper chanted. The Woogie shrunk down as a ray of white light burst through it.
“Ok, what the hell was that?” Jake asked, his voice quivering with fear.
“That was the- I don’t know. Why the Woogie? What could they need that for?” Piper wondered.
“This is all my fault,” Chris said, still looking in the direction of where Zoey had stood.
“It’s not your fault,” Piper said softly.
“Yes it is,” Chris said firmly. “All of this wouldn’t have happened if-”
“If what? Damien was resurrected by the Ancient. Speaking of, we now that in order to stop him we need to drain some of the nexus.”
End of chapter ten

Zoey was pulling up the straps of her ocean blue night gown when Damien entered their bedroom. He smiled as he walked over to the dresser and set down a silver tray. On the tray stood a wine glass and a silver canteen. He walked over to his bride and began to kiss her neck. Zoey smiled and Damien turned her to face him.
She bit her lower lip seductively and kissed him back passionately on the lips leading him to the bed. She pushed him back onto the bed and straddled him with her weight at his pelvis. He sat up and kissed her as he slowly began to slide the straps off of her shoulders. She unbuttoned his shirt and kissed his neck then laid him back onto the bed. Damien smiled and closed his eyes as she leaned in to kiss him.
Instead she slapped him hard on the cheek.
“What the hell was that for?” he demanded seizing her wrist.
“Like you don’t know,” Zoey said glaring at him. “That girl you were with when I came home with Cole, who was she?”
“That’s none of your business,” Damien said letting go of her wrist and pushing her off of him.
Zoey watched him with impatient eyes as he crossed the room. “Who was she?” she demanded loudly.
“No one; here, you need to drink your tonic.”
“Did you sleep with her?” Zoey asked, her voice shaking a bit.
Damien sighed, “She means nothing to me now drink your tonic.”
“Answer the question Damien,” she demanded firmly. “Did you sleep with her?”
“Yes,” he said quietly.
With a flick of her wrist she sent Damien flying across the room with a violent gust of wind.
“Zoey, what the hell? You want to know why I did.” He laughed, “You’re cold; frigid/”
Zoey looked at him with a malignant glare. “How dare you,” she said angrily. “You’re the one who wanted a wife and I married you. By force yes, but I married you and you’re not supposed to cheat with some bimbo.”
“Every time I’m with you, I know you’re thinking about that damn white lighter. Even in our bed. When we make love I know you’re- I should have killed him when I had the chance.”
“He has nothing to do with this,” Zoey said firmly. “Get out.”
“Drink the tonic,” he said handing her the glass filled with the dark green tonic.
Zoey smacked the glass out of his hand and it cracked on the floor.
Damien shoved her into the wall. “I don’t have time for these petty games. You’re mine now and will do as I ask.” He left the room in a rage.
Cole had seen and heard everything. “If you’d like,” he said. “I could talk some sense into her.”
Damien nodded, “What are friends for, right?”
Cole entered the large room that was lit brightly and closed the door behind him. Zoey sat on the ground, tears streamed down her cheeks. Cole conjured two champagne glasses.
“I’m not drinking that,” Zoey said.
“But you have to,” Cole said gently. “Besides, after what just happened to you, you could use a break.” He poured the tonic into the glasses. “I’ll drink with you,” Cole offered. He handed her a glass. “He’s a monster,” Cole said and tucked her hair behind her ear and stroked her cheek.
Zoey was silent and sipped her tonic.
“And he needs to be stopped.”
Zoey turned to look at him, “What do you mean?”
“Exactly that,” Cole said with a smile as his hand slid down to her shoulder then slowly down her bare arm.
Zoey scooted closer to him and tapped her glass to his. “To a brand new partnership,” she said with a sweet smile.

Phoebe, Piper, Paige and Chris orbed into the fire lit study. All four of them were armed with glowing green potion viles. They had extracted some of the nexus and incorporated it into one of their more powerful vanquishing potions. The fire light danced among the enormous book shelve and the large desk. Phoebe motioned her head towards the door and the others followed after.
The long hall they entered was lined with magnificent paintings, from Picasso to Monet and many more; along with the paintings were various weapons such as ancient knives, cross bows and sword that were protected by the glass cases they lay in.
Piper held out her arm to stop the others, there in the conservatory stood the Ancient. His back was turned to them and he appeared to be reading some sort of book.
“Alright,” Piper said in a very low whisper. “First the distraction, then we vanquish. Go.”
Paige and Chris orbed and appeared with crystals in front of the war lock. Piper and Phoebe quickly placed their crystals down behind him and a force field went up.
“Alright now!” Piper yelled. The four raised their viles and were ready to throw them but they were sent flying across the room by a powerful gust of wind.
“Well, well, what do we have here?” Zoey said as she stepped into the glow of the fire light. Her eyes flashed maliciously. “Kill them!” the Ancient ordered.
Damien smiled and pointed a hand to Chris and raised him into the air and slammed him into the wall.
Zoey smiled with enjoyment as she watched the white lighter slam into the wall again. “Enough!” she said. “Save the party favors for later.”
“Kill them!” The warlock repeated. “What are you waiting for?”
Cole smiled, “We’ve got a better idea.” Cole grabbed Zoey’s hand and she took hold of Damien’s hand. Cole began to chant in Latin and Damien chimed in too. Then Zoey joined in too. The three held out their hands to the Ancient. The Ancient screamed an ear piercing scream as a vibrant, thick white light came out of their palms and struck the Ancient in the heart. His skin began to melt and fall off of his bones, then his skeleton burst into vibrant red and orange flames and he turned to ashes.
Zoey smiled pleased. “Now we can have some fun. Dibs on the white lighter.”
Cole and Damien swung their arms causing Piper, Phoebe and Paige to fly into the wall across the room.
“Zoey, this isn’t you,” Chris said backing further away from her.
“It’s not?” she asked ditzily. “Then why do I feel like it’s me? I even look like my self so therefore it is me.”
Chris shook his head, “You can fight this Zoey. I know you can. YOU just have to fight it.”
“Precious, naïve Christopher, why fight something that makes you feel great?” She punched him in the jaw and he flew back. “I have power,” she punched him again knocking him down again. “I have everything, why fight it?”
Chris tried to get up; he was bleeding from the lip. He orbed and grabbed her from behind. She kicked up her knee to make contact with his face. He stumbled backwards, his vision slightly blurred. He lit an energy ball and was about to throw it when she knocked him down with a gust of wind. She marched over to him and pulled him close to her so that they were nose to nose.
“Having fun?” She smiled viciously, “I guess there is more union in a marriage than one deems there to be.”
Chris looked at her curiously as if something had struck his mind just then.
She let go of him. “Let’s go,” she said with a smile. “That’s enough for now, besides, we have business to attend to. I’m sure they can show themselves out.”
End of chapter eleven

“So they vanquished the Ancient?” Leo said while healing the cut on Phoebe’s forehead.
“It doesn’t matter, what matters is that it seems to late to save her,” Piper said completely vexed that they had failed in doing so.
“It’ not too late,” Chris spoke up.
“It seem a hell of lot like it,” Paige said.
“Zoey told me something before they left,” he went on to say. “She said that there is more union in marriage than on deems there to be. I think she was trying to tell me something.”
“Yeah, like she’s the Queen of the Underworld and her husband is like the Source to be,” Piper said.
Phoebe shook her head, “No…more like trying to tell him how to kill Damien. What did you say about the black magic version of the handfasting?”
“That when performed the two will be bound together for life,” Paige said. “Oh, I think I know what she was trying to say.”
****
Zoey and Cole burst out into fits of drunken laughter.
“This is great,” Zoey said as she leaned back against the couch.
Cole nodded, “I agree; besides, now with the Ancient out of the way we’ll be able to follow through with our plan without any complications.” He poured more champagne into their glasses. “Here’s to us,” he said raising his glass for a toast, “in hopes for a not so bad hangover. This stuff is strong.”
Zoey laughed, “I can drink to that.”
They tapped their glasses together and drank the champagne. “You’ve got a bit of bubbly…” Zoey wiped the corner of Cole’s mouth and smiled.
“Am I interrupting?” Damien said as he entered the room looking at Cole suspiciously.
“No, not at all,” Cole said smiling at Zoey. “Care to join?”
“There’s no more champagne,” Zoey said holding up the green tinted glass bottle then smashed it against the wall causing the bottle to break and the champagne to pour out onto the wooden floor.
“What a shame,” Cole said trying not to smile at this scene which pleased him.
Damien sighed, “You should retire for the night,” he said to his wife. “I need my bride rested for tomarrow.”
“I’m not yours,” Zoey said firmly.
“OH no?” Damien said getting tired of her always mouthing off to him.
Zoey smiled slyly. She turned and grabbed Cole and kissed him passionately on the lips for a while. Damien grimaced. She then got up off of the couch.
“Are you trying to make me jealous?” Damien asked grabbing hold of his wife then kissing her more passionately than ever.
Zoey smiled, “I guess it worked. Don’t stay up too late boys. Goodnight.” With that she walked away.
Damien gave Cole a look.
Cole laughed, “She’s just playng with you.”
End of chapter twelve

It was the next day and the sun shone vibrantly though the stained glass windows of the Halliewll manor. Damien, Zoey and Cole blinked into the conservatory. A potion vile exploded at their feet, sending them flying into the air. With a slight flick of his wrist, Damien sent Piper and Leo flying backwards.
Cole deflected a potion vile that Paige had tossed at him.
Damien blinked and reappeared behind Chris. Chris had anticipated this and turned with a fan kick that knocked Damien off of his feet.
“Phoebe,” Zoey said with a vicious smile, “Did you miss me?” she punched Phoebe and knocked her to the ground.
Piper froze two energy balls that Cole had sent her way.
“Zoey, we can help you,” Phoebe said getting up carefully. “We can save you.”
“Save me- from what?” Zoey exclaimed as she punched Phoebe again. “I’ve never felt better. You’re just jealous because you had your chance with Cole and blew it.” She blocked Phoebe’s punch and kicked the witch in the stomach. She then grabbed Phoebe by the hair, “I won’t let you take this away from me.”
Phoebe stabbed an atheme into Zoey’s stomach. Zoey gasped and fell to the ground.
Damien yelled out in pain. Phoebe ran over to her sisters. Cole turned towards Damien and with a wave of his hand sent a strong jolt of electricity at him causing Damien to be shocked violently. “Now!” Cole yelled.
The sisters looked at him oddly then turned and held each others hands up. “We call upon the ancient power,” they said in unison, “to aid us in this darkest hour. We summon that which lies beneath us, we call upon the power of three, end for all time end his life, destroy this evil entity!”
A bright white light shone out of the three sisters’ palms and stuck through Damien. He screamed and so did Zoey. Damien then combusted in hideous shrieks. Chris ran over to Zoey who now lay motionless on the floor. He placed his hands over her and a for the first time a goldish light appeared. It seem like it took forever for her to heal. With a gasp of breath, Zoey opened her eyes and sat up. Her head was heavy and she felt really sick. She glanced at Cole and smiled faintly. He acknowledged the smile with a slight nod and shimmered out.
****
“I’m just glad you’re back to normal,” Jason said giving Zoey a hug. “You’re really scary when your angry.”
“Sorry,” Zoey said. She turned to the others. “Am I in trouble?”
“Well, you did try to kill us,” Piper said. “But, you also helped to vanquish the Ancient and Damien.”
“I didn’t do it all by myself,” Zoey said.
“He’s a demon, he’s evil,” Phoebe said firmly. “He always will be.”
Zoey nodded, “Maybe but maybe not. He helped me so much when I was with Damien. By the way, am I still married? By the way how does that work?”
“You’re officially single again,” Leo said with a smile. “NO divorce is needed since you tow wedded without any documents signed.”
“OH thank goodness! I thought I’d be 18, married in a past life, this life and divorced.”
They all laughed. Zoey saw Chris walk out the front door. She sexcused herself from the rest of the group and went out after him.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” he asked as she closed the door behind her.
“Better, a bit dizzy but that’s just the withdrawal from all that power.” Chris nodded. An awkward silence fell between them. “Why did you do that?” Chris asked suddenly.
“Do what?”
“Everything; tell me off and sacrifice yourself for me.”
Zoey sighed, “I had to say those thing Chris because I couldn’t risk you being killed. So I told you that I didn’t care for you and made you hate me.”
“I didn’t hate you,” Chris said.
“Anyways, you almost got killed anyways. When Damien showed up that day, I saw you and- I couldn’t let you die. I’m sorry for hurting you. I hope you can someday forgive me.”
Chris smiled and walked up to her. He tucked her hair behind her ears and kissed her lips. She smiled and kissed him back passionately.
“Whoa, can you two say PDA?” Jake teased as climbed the stone steps. “There’s impressionable children playing in the street.”
Chris and Zoey laughed and hugged each other. Zoey then hugged Jake.
“It’s good to have you back to normal,” Jake said. Then whispered in her ear. “I’ll call you later. I can see you have some…things to attend to.”
Zoey smiled and nodded. As Jake left she hugged Chris again.
the end * * * * * *Coming Soon: Crime and Punishment As their relationship begins to progress it seems that time is going against the young lovers. Can Leo save Zoey and Chris before it's too late?

You’ve got me all bumfuzzled about Cole now, which is a great thing. Hurrah for ambiguity!
I liked how forgiving Chris was here. Maybe now he and Zoey are even?
Looking forward to the next story!
