I didn't care for Dan at all. To me he seemed jealous and controlling and kind of pushy, especially when it came to trying to get Piper to sever all ties to Leo. And digging into Leo's background so extensively after Piper repeatedly told him she knew who Leo was. This was my original opinion, back in the day, but I've since changed my mind. Here, I'm going to blame Constance M. Burge, for this decision in swinging Dan away from Phoebe and onto Piper, in S2E3 "The Painted World". In S2E1 "Witch Trial", a Brad Kern episode (mind you), he kept dropping hints that he wanted Phoebe & Dan, to be together, and I'm all for that. 'Cause even Piper was with some Bank Loan guy, who we never see, again. Then, in S2E2 "Morality Bites", Piper's with Leo. All of sudden, in S2E3 "The Painted World" (a Burge episode) Piper & Dan are starting to become a thing (at least, Phoebe's character, for some reason, accuses Piper of liking Dan)? I don't buy it, but I digress. Dan has every right to be angry and upset with Piper, since her heart was never truly for Dan. You have Dan being as patient as possible with Piper who's lying to him about BOTH her feelings for Leo AND being a witch! A GREAT point Leo brought up, in S2E6 "That Old Black Magic". You can't be in a healthy relationship built upon lies. Which is why I tend to favor A LOT of Paige's relationships, since her's were more honest, compared to the rest of the sisters, but I digress. It (also) doesn't help, that Piper is my LEAST favorite sister, not just throughout the entire show but ESPECIALLY in S2. Even back when Piper was "my favorite", I still hated her in S2. This never changed. So, while Piper is stringing along Dan, and Leo acting COMPLETELY sus, would you just expect Dan, who actually cares about Piper, more than Piper cares about him, to just let her run around with someone who's suspect? This is how people get hurt! As grooming is real (even in the realm of adults), and from Dan's perspective, Leo is pretty sketch and may be trying to hurt Piper. OFC, we all know who Leo is, and he's not trying to hurt Piper, but I can understand where Dan is coming from, in trying to ENSURE nothing happens to Piper. All that being said, Dan should've been with Phoebe and NOT Piper. And, I'm not the biggest Piper & Leo fan, either. I MUCH prefer Piper with Josh (back in S1). I'm still upset, to this day, that the show broke up Piper & Josh because Piper is thinking about Leo. But, yet, Piper thinks about Leo, A LOT, throughout S2 but doesn't break up with Dan because of it? Make it make sense! But, anyway. Sorry, but I think the Dan character is fine. Unfortunately, he ended up with the most toxic sister, and it completely decayed his character. Jenny I absolutely can't stand at all. The problem with that character was that she didn't really have any place in the storyline and didn't add anything to the storyline. The character was bratty and annoying and acted spoiled. If they wanted to appeal to the teenage audience they should have done it with an actual well-known teenage actress and had them have an actual storyline that was relevant to the subject matter of the show. She had so much potential, in S2E6 "That Old Black Magic". If anything, if Burge REALLY wanted Piper & Dan to be together, Jenny may have been that outlet to soften Dan up to magic. Alas, she totally disappears after S2E6 "That Old Black Magic", never to be seen, again. She (also) seemed to bond the most with Phoebe than Piper. All the more reason Phoebe was meant for Dan and NOT Piper! Jenny sees Phoebe first, to use the phone to call her parents in Saudi Arabia. Phoebe was the one Dan turned to to help Jenny with her homework. Phoebe was the one to notice Jenny at P3, in S2E4 "The Devil's Music". Seems like Phoebe is the one who cares the most about Jenny's well-being than Piper, but I digress. |

I think a major part of me not liking Dan at all is because I have been in relationships where I was with someone and things go great at first and then things start happening like the guy gets jealous over another guy that is just a friend and tries to prove to me the friends are bad and just all sorts of stuff. So, Dan kind of reminds me of those relationships where I thought I had a great guy but I ended up with a very jealous and eventually abusive person. Piper should have told Dan about being a Witch when things started getting serious. Piper had feelings for both at the same time and I have had that happen and it's confusing. Only difference was I wasn't dating either. I also understand keeping the fact they are Witches a secret. Even to this day it isn't accepted by a lot of people. I'm careful who I tell. (Talking about it here is different because this is what the forum.is centered around.) I never really thought Dan was that good of a match for Piper. Phoebe would have been better but that would have interfered with the Cole storyline.

Phoebe moved with Jason overseas and still didn't tell him. Sorry Phoebe, she should've told him before agreeing to move with him overseas. What did she think was going to happen, she'd keep lying to him when she suddenly disappears and winds up back in San Francisco for hours at a time to vanquish demons when Jason can't get hold of her. |
