I was noticing something that does not make sense to me. I forget the episode but it was early when we first meet Cole, Piper freezes a courtroom full of people but Cole only pretends to freeze he does not really.
Then in season four in Hell Hath No Fury Piper tries to freeze the furies but it does not work and panics: "They're immune to my powers!"
to which Phoebe replies: "Unfortunately Cole is not!" as she looks at a frozen ticked off Cole.

In "The Honeymoon's Over", I believe that Piper did something different with her freezing powers. Instead of just freezing everyone, she only froze those who were not evil or possessed by evil, in order to find out who were their enemies in the courtroom. This is why Cole did not freeze. He must have sensed or somehow overheard what they were up to and pretended to freeze. Once Piper had cast her special freezing spell (or whatever), she could not undo it. Those who did not freeze - Emilio, Judge Willy Hamilton, Cole, etc., became TEMPORARILY immuned to freezing power.
That's the best I could do.

Maybe Cole overheard that they were going to freeze the room and he knows that since he was such a powerful demon that the freeze wouldn't effect him for long as it never does in many episodes when she freezes him.

That makes some sense I can see that. I understand what ljones is saying as well but how can she focus her powers like that when her targets are all over the room and thus there is not just one place to aim?

Well i guess that would be the same thing as when she freezes someone and then just unfreezes their head. When she tried to unfreeze it should have unfroze the entire person/demon but she just concentrated her power to that particular part of the body. If she can concentrate her power like that then i don't see why she couldn't concentrate it on a specific type of person or group of people like she did.

I haven't the foggiest idea. But if you'll read the transcript for the episode, you'll see that Piper had only frozen those who were not evil or possessed by evil in order to determine who were their enemies. In fact, I think she had succeeded on the second try.
I guess that since this was a special situation, the bad guys were immune to her freezing power during that period.

Then in season four in Hell Hath No Fury Piper tries to freeze the furies but it does not work and panics: "They're immune to my powers!"to which Phoebe replies: "Unfortunately Cole is not!"as she looks at a frozen ticked off Cole. Balthazar had many "levels" of demon powers and multiple powers including Firestarter powers, and the more powers you have the more resistant you are to foe powers. By the time Cole was frozen he only had "Hate blast" as he had bought of services and contacts via is powers thus He only had 1 power to defend against other attacks. Piper has 3 levels of Freeze, 1 level of Blast, and 1 level of "quick time" (which she only used twice) so Cole was out powered with her 5 powers v.s. his 1 so he froze. Add to the fact that he was supressing the "Demon" in him and only his human("good") was exposing him even more. But later when he "let Balthazar out" to defeat another demon in that eppisode where they were talking about a "stripping potion" remember that he, as Balthazar, was able to shake off the first freeze then just became immune as the rage was building up (also the fact that he just stole a lot of powers from his foe demon with that special Dagger).....lol (and then Phoebe through the potion to "vanquish" his demon half)
