How is it possible to get flashes of future events from touching something?
Phoebe touches a wallet and she gets an image of the wallet's owner being hit by a car.
The wallet has nothing to do with the car and the event hasn't happened yet. Maybe if she touched the guy, she gets the image, but the wallet? That doesn't make much sense to me.

Well she produced the image from the wallet because it was his wallet and the elders sent it to her because it was a reason to stop the event from happening.

If you're asking how does Phoebe touching objects cause her to get premonitions?...I believe it has to do with emitting and absorbing electricity - - and the premonitions and flashbacks come to Phoebe as electrical impulses across the space-time continuum. As we see in later episodes, this power expands when Phoebe is able to receive "astral premonitions" into the future and "astral flashbacks" into the past (where she actually gets projected into her future or past bodies to experience situations).

I believe this channeling of electricity is also related to Phoebe's levitation and empathy powers.

I don't think it matters whether it's the future or the past. The electrical impulses can travel either direction. Rather, there seemed to be a *karmic* reason why Phoebe foresaw Mr. Corey being hit by the car...she was meant to save his life.

I don't believe the Elders regularly "send" Phoebe her visions. Only occasionally (for example, the random premonition she received while riding her bike in the pilot; or the premonition at the beginning of "Morality Bites").

Umm that's kind of the point of her powers, seeing the future. Seeing the past was a growth of her powers originally she could only see the future. And by Dead Man Dating her powers had not grown yet so she could not have a vision from the past.
