Again, I'm not detailed in this tutorial because I made it for a Fan Art board. If you don't know your way around PSP/PS, take a step back. Really.
I tend to be quite confusing, so feel free to ask me anything.
We're making an icon of my favorite actress, Cate Blanchett ^^, and this are the pics we'll be using : Img#1, Img#2 , Img#3 and Img4
First off, we'll open a canvas 100x100. Open up img#1 and crop and resize until we've got something square-ish, (note that it doesn't have to be exactly 100x100), make it black & white and now you should have something like this
Now, we shall open a second canvas and make it 30x30. Now, we'll use Cate #2, crop and resize until is around 30x30 and paste it on the new layer, now, we'll use an icon brush with simple corners, I used this one by PekeAna, which can be found here (the set #2). Make it b&w, and now it should look likethis
Do the same with all other images and paste them in the canvas with the first image of Cate, sharpen it and now it should look like this
Now, we'll use some textures. The first texture we'll use is one from The Blooming Effect, (click for sample). We'll paste it in the icon as a new layer and set the blend mode on "Soft light". We'll use another texture from TBE (click for sample) and set the blending mode in "Screen", and the opacity to 60.
It's gradients time! We'll use this one from CrumbingWalls which can be downloaded here. Set it to multiply, the opacity at 100 and duplicate it. Bleh, now it's too light. Make a new layer and fill it with #25114D, set the blend mode at soft light, and the opacity at 24.
Text time! We'll put "c a t e", yes, just like that in century, size 12, no stroke. I know, the text is verry creative =P
And, we're done.
