OP3: It's a forum. People post opinions and others respond. Hopefully you won't take it personnally. Anyway, you're not wrong about the writing at all; I agree that it was not up to the same level as previous seasons. However, part of the budget is paying the writers and better writers cost more. I've heard that they had to cut back in that department too, which probably put more work on Brad Kern to contribute more. Spread thiner, he was probably not doing his best work while trying to hold things together during S7, not knowing if there would be an S8. It probably put a lot of pressure on the cast, crew, and everyone else involved with the show. You can see it in the acting as well as the writing. S8 had even worse writing moments, but let's not go there.
As for running out of ideas, perhaps they felt stressed to come up with a new idea or storyline. Bringing back the Triad as the "Big Bad" was a bit unoriginal, but what's done is done. However, if they had wanted new ideas, there were plenty out in the books being published. They are obviously about earlier times, but they could have been updated for the present. Anyway, the point is there were lots of ideas and storylines they could have explored, but that's just not the way it went.
