The Chosen Ones *Updated 1/13/07*

It used to be just the 6 of us (Vanessa, Darlene, Jillian, Katie, Angela and Me-Lauren). Then Kelsey and Molly came along. I blame them for everything that's happened. Because when they came, everything changed.
Things started happening that we couldn't explain. It was almost as if we had developed powers. Katie thought we were withces. Kelsey believed that you needed chronicle hats and broomsticks to be withces. I'd seen Charmed and Sabrina, so I knew that wasn't ture. But still I doubted us being witches.
The eight of us were walking along one day and some strange Chinese lady started talking to us. We started walking away when she started talking in English.
"You are the Chosen Ones! Come with me if you want to know more."
We brushed her off and left. But then we saw her everyday. Katie even had a dream about her. We sought her out and let her explain.
"Where I come from, 8 is a very powerful number. Long ago, a mighty Oracle predicted 8 young girls would be protectors of the world. They would be known as the Chosen Ones. You are those girls. And I was chosen to be your mentor."
"You have got to be kidding me," Angela (always the skpetical one) remarked.
"I am not. You each have a give power. Vanessa, you are telekenetic. You have the power to move things with your mind."
"I can what?" Vanessa was stunned.
The lady ignored her and kept dishing out our powers, "Darlene you can freeze time, Jillian you can turn invisible, Katie you see the past and the future through visions, Angela you can blow things up, Kelsey you can astral project- be in two places at once, and Molly you can fly."
"What about me?" I asked her.
"You Lauren, are special. Your power lies within."
"What does that mean?" I asked.
" You'll see," she told me.

We found out that the lady’s name was Hay Lin. She handed each of a bracelet with a black stone.

“These help keep your powers in check”, Hay Lin told us. “ Each one has specks of color in the black that represents your power.”

Vanessa’s specks were green. Darlene’s were blue. Jillian’s were silver. Katie’s were gold. Angela’s were an orange red. Kelsey’s were purple. And Molly’s were pink. I looked down at my own bracelet. It was jet black.

“What about mine?” I asked Hay Lin.
“Yours will change when you discover your power Lauren,” she told me.
“I am getting so tired of this cryptic stuff,” I muttered.

We left feeling very confused and, on some level, scared.

“So Lauren, what do you think your power is?” Katie asked.
“Yeah it could be anything,” Molly mused.
“You might be able to control time!” Katie said, excitedly.
“Or make things appear out of thin air!” Molly joined in on Katie’s guessing.

I groaned and started walking faster. Magic? I asked myself. Yeah right.

“Lauren, what’s your problem? Don’t you want to know what your power is?” Katie asked.
“Honestly guys, I don’t. I really don’t believe that we have these powers like Hay Lin says we do,” I told them.
“Umm… guys,” Jillian stammered.
“Not now, Jill,” I brushed her off.
“I really think you should see this,” Vanessa insisted.

I turned around reluctantly. Jillian was nowhere in sight.

“How do I become uninvisible?” came Jillian’s voice.

My jaw dropped open. This whole situation just got a whole lot creepier.

Jillian reappeared just as a man walked around the corner. He stared at her in shock. We stared back blankly. He rubbed his eyes, shook his head, and kept walking.

“That was close,” Jillian sighed.
“Too close. That’s why I don’t like this idea of having powers,” I told them.
“Oh come on Lauren,” Kelsey said.
“Idea? Jillian just turned invisible. I think we're past idea and on reality,” Angela argued.

I shrugged and started walking faster. Suddenly a giant monster appeared in front of me.

“Oh this is so not good,” I muttered.

RRRRRRRRAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Well he sounds mad,” Katie stated.

We all groaned. Leave it to Katie to try and make a serious situation funny.

“Katie, this is not the time for to act funny,” I told her.

“We have to use our powers,” Angela decided.
She threw up her hands trying to blow him up. The monster simply stumbled backwards. Vanessa tried to move a trash can lid at his head but her aim was way off.

“This is so not going to work,” I told them gesturing at the monster.

Suddenly, white-hot light shot from my hand. It hit the monster and he disappeared.

“What was that?” asked Darlene.

“I think Lauren just discovered her power,” Molly said, shocked.

I was too stunned to speak. I stared at my hands in disbelief. Then I noticed a small white circle had appeared in the center of my jet-black gem.

“No, no,” I murmured

“Are you okay?” Jillian asked concerned.

“Do I look like I’m okay? This can’t be happening!” I screamed.

They tried to comfort me, but I wouldn’t let them. I was too far gone. My head was spinning. White light had just shot out of my hand and she’s asking me if I’m okay? I had to get away. Away from them, away from these powers. I started running, not knowing where I was going. When they called after me, I blocked them out and ran faster.

“I don’t get it, I simply don’t get,” Angela mumbled.

“What don’t you get?” Kelsey asked.

“She loves Charmed, she loves Sabrina, how could she not love having powers of her own?” Angela questioned.

“I guess it’s like magic is something she believes in, but only to a certain level,” Darlene stated.

“Here we go again,” Vanessa groaned.

Darlene had been known for her random theories.

“This one makes sense. Just listen,” Darlene pleaded.

“Fine,” Jillian agreed.

“It’s like when you think you can handle a scary movie, but then you see it and you have nightmares about it for weeks,” Darlene summed up.

“Oh I get it! She thought that having powers would be fun, but now she’s scared to death of them. Poor Lauren,” Katie said.

“Exactly!” Darlene said happily.

“Wow Darlene, one of your theories actually made sense,” Vanessa quipped.

Darlene hit Vanessa on the arm.

Vanessa just laughed. Darlene rolled her eyes at her.

“Married couple,” Jillian murmured.
“Hey,” they both said defensively.

Darlene and Vanessa argued a lot. Sometimes they sounded like a married couple. Jillian and I always teased them about that.

“Guys, can we please focus?” Angela asked, taking charge.
“We’ve got to find Lauren. Talk her down or something,” Kelsey suggested.
“Talk her down from what exactly?” Molly wanted to know.
“Don’t know. Just an expression I always wanted to use. I was hoping you guys would go along with it,” Kelsey shrugged.

Molly laughed. Katie started staring off into the direction that I had run in. She sighed.

“What’s wrong Kate?” Darlene asked, concerned.
“It’s just, I’ve known her my whole life. I’ve never seen her like this,” Katie continued to stare off into space.
“Don’t worry,” Angela reassured her. “We’re going to figure this out.”
