What the Past Held
“The Power of Three will set us free, The Power of Three will set us free The Power of Three will set us free!” They kept chanting
Piper looks around her and sees white lights around her “Its not working!!” She shrieks panicking.
“We can do this Piper just keep chanting” Paige says the fear in her voice betraying her words.
Phoebe stops the chant as well giving up, “I’m too tired to fight it! Its not working.” She yells as the lights come together above them.
“No this is not how it’s going to end d@mnit!!” Piper says starting to get pissed, her eyes dart toward her three children huddled in a corner. “You cannot have my powers you here me? You’ve taken too much from me already!!” Despite her threats and the pleas the lights swirl together into a triquetra and shoot through the attic roof and towards the sky bursting as it passed the clouds up above. The sisters rushed to the window watching it. Piper’s energy began draining out of her realizing what they had just lost. Phoebe stared at the clouds trying not to go into shock Paige could only back away from the window…..”I’m so sorry” She whispered before turning around and fleeing from the attic. Piper and Phoebe couldn’t follow her; they couldn’t bring themselves to admit that it could very well be Paige’s fault for all of this.
Piper shakes her head and staggers against the window tears coming to her eyes as Leo orbs in “Piper! Phoebe!”<br>Piper turns to him and the tears spill like rain. “Leo” she says weakly and she goes to fall but he runs to catch her.
“Shhh Its ok I’m here.” He says glancing at Phoebe.
“Its gone” Piper sobs into Leo’s shirt “They’re gone!!” Leo looks to Phoebe as she turns around nodding to confirm Piper’s sobs. Leo shook his head and held Piper tight
“Where’s Paige?” Leo asks just noticing her absence.
Phoebe jumps looking around just noticing her absence as well. “She must’ve left.” Phoebe says quietly playing with her wedding ring on her finger.
Leo nods understanding whispering soothing words to Piper as she calms down. “I need to go to the elders Piper”<br>Piper looks up with fire in her eyes “Its them that did this!! It’s always them! They can’t leave anything alone!! All they want is destroy whatever happiness we find for the so called greater good!!” She screams sliding to the floor sobbing again. Phoebe takes a deep breath and kneels next to her older sister. “Go Leo, we’ll be fine….for now.” Phoebe says pulling Piper to her. Leo looks warily at them and then orbs out quickly. Piper sobs more as her youngest daughter Prue comes toward her. “Mommy? Why are you crying?” the little Piper clone asks with as much concern as a three year old could muster.
Piper sits up from Phoebes shoulder and holds out her arms to her only daughter. “Because, “ she begins hugging Prue. “Mommy is tired.” She says swallowing her tears to comfort her daughters’ worries as her two sons come to her with alarmed concern filling their eyes.
“Are you ok mom?”<br>“Mom?” her eldest son asks. “What was that?”<br>Piper sighs trying to answer her children’s questions. “The Charmed Ones have…..been suspended.” She says with finality.
Wyatt and Chris her two sons grasp the meaning for their young ages but Prue sits confused “Supendeded?” she asks in toddler translation
“Suspended sweetheart” Piper says wearily “It means that Aunt Phoebe, Aunt Paige and I don’t have our powers anymore.”<br>Phoebe seeing Piper’s fatigue ushers the children downstairs quickly and returns to Piper as Leo orbs in. Piper avoids eye contact with him as Phoebe asks “What did they say Leo?”<br>Leo glances at Piper not saying anything.
“What did they say?” Phoebe repeats feeling impatient.
Not taking his worried eyes off of Piper, he hadn’t seen her this distraught since Prue died, he says. “This is another step in your destiny, It’s what the future holds.”
Piper shakes her head. “Taking our powers away is What the Future holds? What the hell have we been doing all these years? Why would all that end like this?” she asks no one in particular angrily.
“Its temporary.” Leo says making Phoebe look up.
“Temporary? What on earth are we supposed to do in the mean time? Brush up on our knitting skills? It’s like sending the boys from war to the kitchen to bake apple pie!” Phoebe rants.
Paige drives to a local airport in a fury of tears and anguish. All the thoughts swirling inside her head kept coming to one conclusion. “its my fault.” She bought a plane ticket that took half of her money and then on a borrowed pad of paper furiously scribbled a note to her family. I’m sorry, I take the responsibility and there’s nothing I can do but leave. I don’t know where I’m going and I don’t know when I’ll be back. I've got some searching to do. I love you all very much and again I’m so sorry.
Love Paige.She folded up the letter and stuffed it in an envelope with a ready stamp and pushed it into a mailbox nearby and boarded her plane with just her purse and all her money from her bank account.
Piper rolls her eyes as Phoebe sits down. “Its just like the elders to do this.”<br>“piper…” leo says with warning
“yeah yeah yeah I know,” she says holding up her hands and standing up. “They’re in charge and they always will be.”<br>Leo sighs and looks at her.
Phoebe calms down and takes a deep breath in order to help Piper. “what about Paige?”<br>Leo looks up “I can’t sense her without her powers.”<br>Piper breaks down and falls into her husband’s arms with angry tears not saying a word. Leo just held her in an effort to comfort her.
“does that mean we have to actually wait till she comes home or something?” Phoebe asks.
Leo nods quickly holding Piper tighter as she whispers “blame the elders for that too.”<br>After a few moments of awkward silence, Leo says “There’s nothing we can do for now, we’ll just have to wait….Phoebe why don’t you get home to your son and Jason.”
Phoebe nods and heads out knowing it was for the best at the moment.
Leo picks up his wife and carries her to their room and lays her on the bed. He decides to leave her alone for awhile when she calls him back to the bed.
“Leo..” she says
He turns around and walks back to her and sits on the bed next to his wife. “Yeah?”<br>Piper takes a deep breath her nose turning red from fighting back the tears once more and asks a question she hadn’t thought about in years. “Why do they put us through so much for it to end this way?”<br>Leo recognized the question immediately and put an affectionate hand on her face. “Its not over” he whispers softly. “Its just a new-“<br>“Destiny.” She finishes for him and he nods at the irony. It was always destiny.
