(( HEllo everyone. It has been a very long time since I posted my last, failed story, but that does not mean I have not written since then. I have written quite a few other Charmed stories, but none of them are finished, so I sat down and finished one of them. I hope you all enjoy, and any feedback, positive as well as constructive critisizm, are very welcome!
MARTYR FOUND
“… I… I don’t know what happened, I don’t remember. I was walking by… by the hospital. And I felt…”
Piper took hold of a bit of cloth and slowly, lightly, began to dab at the young man’s countless wounds. With every touch the man winced, but they both knew it was for the best – no pain, no gain. Phoebe sat on the far end of the couch, with the man’s head resting lightly on a pillow on her lap, running a hand through his wavy red hair.
“ I felt so much pain, so much… I couldn’t stand it, it was unbearable! I… I fell to the ground – I was bleeding from everywhere – my face, my hands, my arms, chest, legs… So much pain…”
“Just try to calm down, don’t get too worked up or you’ll just hurt more. We’ll heal you as good as we can, and patch you up after that. Leo!” Piper, after speaking her words to the heavily wounded man, turned and yelled the name into the emptiness of the house. Moments later, a bright light began to form, and from it stepped Leo.
Leo saw the man on the couch and gasped at the awful sight. He immediately knelt by the man and, holding his hands just above the man’s chest, began to regenerate the flesh beneath his hands. However, it seemed that so many wounds could not be completely healed, but as moments passed, quite a few of them, especially the greater ones, were healed nicely. Soon Leo was exhausted, and was carried out of the room with the help of Piper. Paige then tried her luck with healing, and was able to mend the flesh of his arms and upper chest before stopping. She took a seat on a sofa chair to rest a while.
“I… I thank you. I didn’t know a being like me could be healed… But thank you very much!”
“What do you mean a being like you? Y-you’re not a warlock, are you?” Phoebe realized how dumb of question she asked and regretted asking it. The man laughed slightly, but stopped immediately, still in the throes of agony.
“No no, most definitely not, though I doubt I would tell you if I were. I don’t know exactly what I am, but I know that this isn’t the first time this has happened to me.” The man started to sit up a bit, but stopped and slowly lowered himself back down to the couch. He still needed a bit of time.
“What happened last time? Maybe, with a bit of information, we can find out what exactly you are.” Phoebe, who had stopped smoothing out the man’s hair, now looked curiously at the man.
“Well… I remember that there was a car accident – I wasn’t in the accident, but I was close to it. I got out of my car to see if everyone was all right, and I noticed a lady in one of the cars involved was really hurt – she was conscious, but bleeding pretty heavily. So I went to the car to see if she was still alive, and when I touched her shoulder, I started to bleed quite a bit. The amazing part was that she had stopped bleeding, and was healing right before my eyes! But as soon as I let the woman go, she stopped healing, and I just continued to bleed from some wounds that just appeared…”
“So… You took her wounds, or something of the sort?” Paige questioned, quite intrigued.
“I guess that’s a good way to put it, yes. That is when I began to really notice the world around me, the real world that had been hidden behind this masquerade. Demons, the underworld and the world above, witches, like yourselves. But as much research as I did on myself, of my condition, I could not find any information, though my resources were fairly limited.”
“Well, we may be able to find out some more information about you, but before we do, lets get you patched up and proper, hmm?” Piper, who had obviously been listening to the conversation as it evolved, entered the living room. She walked to the sofa where the man lay and, taking up the medical kit that was nearby, began to apply bandages where she saw fit, covering what wounds still existed, which were still numerous.
“Well, I think I’ll grab the Book and see what I can find. Piper, bandage him up good. And Phoebe… continue to be a pillow.” Paige, standing, turned and headed up the stairs to the attic to fetch the Book of Shadows.
Noticing that the man was in quite a bit of pain due to Piper’s bandaging, Phoebe tried her best to strike up a conversation.
“Well… Can I ask for your name?” Phoebe questioned, wondering why the question hadn’t been previously posed.
“I’m Nathan Gunderson, Gun to some, Nate to others, or just Nathan Gunderson…” The man, Nathan, twitched and flinched as more and more gauze was being applied to his broken frame.
“Well, nice to meet you Nate, though not necessarily under these conditions…” Phoebe spoke, still trying to keep the man’s attention away from the bandaging, with a bit of success.
Paige then bounced down the stairs, the Book in hand, and took a seat by the rest of them, flipping open to a page. She turned the Book towards her sisters and the injured man, who all looked at the page and read the text.
Angelic Martyr
Few of these creatures exist in the world. They are highly coveted by both Demons and good folk for their miraculous healing ability. However, to these creatures, healing can be devastating, for the Angelic Martyr not only heals the victim, but also takes the wounds onto themselves. Often times, the Martyr is enslaved, and forced to use their gift until death.
“Well, that put things right into perspective, didn’t it?” Nate joked, wincing slightly as he forced a laugh. “So, according to that book, I am a ‘coveted creature’, hmm? And I already had a low self-image…”
“Don’t take it personally,” Phoebe reassured. “It’s just a bit of information to help us, that’s all. We know what you are now, and that’s always a good thing!”
“Yes, but now what? How do I control it, what do I use it for? What am I supposed to do now? It says my kind is enslaved – should I be worried, or go into hiding or something? I mean, you can’t just expect me to return to the normal world after hearing something like that…” Evidently worried and confused, Nate regurgitated a flurry of questions for the sisters to answer. However, looking at each other silently, neither had any answers to the questions.
“Look, I’m sorry, but we don’t know much, we’re just as surprised and confused as you are. You’re welcome to stay for a while, until we figure out a few things, but I can’t promise much. We will certainly try out best.” Piper, finishing bandaging the remaining injuries, stood and, after speaking her words, sat on the arm of the couch, grabbing up the Book of Shadows from the coffee table and taking a second look.
It was then that Leo orbed in the room, still looking a bit fatigued, but fine overall. Neither of the sisters knew he had left, and were surprised at his entrance.
“I just spoke to the Elders, and it is getting chaotic up there. Evidently Demons are going crazy trying to find this guy, and because of that all of the Whitelighters are busy protecting their charges.”
“Well, what are we supposed to do then? We don’t know what’s coming our way, how are we supposed to protect him?” Paige was becoming quite worried from Leo’s information.
“I don’t know. I would orb him to the upper plains, but they don’t want a demon outbreak up there, either. I’ll see what I can do.” Seeing the look Piper had given Leo, he orbed back up to see the Elders.
“Look, I have to get back to my apartment, I have a few things there that might help protect me. I don’t know where my car is though…” Nate tried to sit up, and amazingly succeeded, though Blood was already starting to stain his bandages. He pushed himself to a stand and began to pace the room, favoring one leg over the other.
“Hey, you need to sit down and relax a while – you’ve been through quite a bit. I can take you to your apartment, but you’ve got to promise to rest afterwards.” Paige, standing, made his way to Nate and gave him quite the serious look.
Nate nodded, stopping his pacing. “Sure, sure. Resting would be nice after a day like this, anyway.”
Paige, extending her arm, grabbed hold of Nate and, in an instant, orbed the two to Nathan’s apartment complex. They found themselves in the lobby, and were forced to climb about three stories before reaching his room (of course, the elevator was out – had been for a week or so). Nate opened the door and entered, Paige not far behind him. Nathan flicked on the lights, and Paige was quite amazed to see the contents of his home. The place was amazingly clean, with the exception of a few books and movies scattered in front of a rather small TV in the living room area.
“Can I get you anything at all, Paige?” Nathan, who had already walked into his bedroom, yelled into the silent room.
“A glass of water, maybe.” Paige answered, walking into the living room, searching the books and movies out of curiosity. Horror movies scattered here and there, separated only by a few old, worn books, each without a title or author on the front cover. Flipping open the cover of a tan, leather-bound book sitting on a glass end stand, she read the title ‘Demonology, Reference Book 12’. She had no idea books about demons existed, but as she read the author, something told her that the author was not of this world.
“Water? Oh come on – there are plenty of things to drink in the fridge. Grab what you like, glasses are in the cupboard next to the fridge.” Nathan, who was still shouting from the kitchen, sounded like he was struggling with something.
Paige made her way to the fridge and opened it up – he certainly kept it well-stocked! Foods and beverages of all sorts lines the shelves and door-trays. She took a can of soda from the bottom shelf and opened it, the all-too familiar click and siss of the soda echoing throughout the room. She caught a glimpse of Nathan in the bedroom, who was shoving something into a very large duffel bag on his bed.
“Do you need any help in there?” Paige asked, sipping her soda, watching as the form of the man disappeared somewhere in his room. She began to make her way towards the bedroom and eventually found herself in the doorway, looking down at the large duffel bag full of all kinds of items, namely one of several large, silver swords glinting brightly in the light of the room.
“No no, I think I can handle the job,” Nate yelled, unaware of Paige in his doorway. But, turning around, he noticed her standing there and jumped nervously, dropping what looked like a small vial full of a dark green liquid. The vial hit the wooden floor with a clank, but did not shatter, or move at all for that matter. It simply hit the ground and stayed put, resting at an odd angle which evidently defied physics completely.
“Oh, sorry I scared you, I didn’t mean to—“
“No no, its fine. Just didn’t expect you, that’s all. I’m all ready to head back.” Nate swooped down and scooped up the vial, shoving it deep into the bag before zipping it shut. He lifted the bag off the bed and, judging by the several failed attempts at lifting the bag, Paige figured that it was extremely heavy. She saw that, finally, the man lifted it and swung it over his shoulder. Paige wasted no time and immediately orbed them back to the Manor.
