I'm writing out my stuff for my book and was wondering if this could be a good intro to it.
"Charmed" was an American television series. It began its run on October 7, 1998 and lasted until May 15, 2005 covering a full seven seasons of TV time. It was created by a TV personality named Constance Burge, and she based it off of a movie released two years earlier called "The Craft"
Constance's TV creation told the story of the fictional Halliwell family of San Francisco and closely followed in the theme of "The Craft" in that it also was filled with magic from witches. Yes, the Halliwell family was steeped in magical heritage.
A typical episode would begin with a quick teaser and then flow into the theme song and opening credits. The theme song for Charmed is titled "How soon is now" and this particular version is done by the band Love Spit Love. During (and after) the opening credits, there is stock footage of San Francisco scenery with everything from Alcatraz Island to the Golden Gate Bridge. The stock footage usually ends with an image of the Halliwell home (called the Halliwell Manor on the show) then the episode truly begins.
The outside of the Halliwell Manor is an actual home located at 1329 Carroll Avenue in Los Angeles and is in fact part of a historical homes neighborhood. The inside of the "Manor" is--of course--just a TV sound stage or set. The real home and the TV home are indeed different in layout and floor plan. I would venture to guess the actual home used for outside images is the third most recognized home in the USA behind the White House and the Playboy Mansion.
Although the series centered around the Halliwell "family", its true focus was on the three sisters of that family. From its beginning until 2001 the sisters were (in order from eldest to youngest) Prue, Piper and Phoebe. These characters were played by (in the same order) Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, and Alyssa Milano. After 2001, Prue was killed off and the sisters moved up one spot in the birth order. Piper became the eldest, then Phoebe and a new youngest sister was added--Paige. The character of Paige was played by Rose McGowan.
Many other family members graced the halls of the Manor throughout the seven-year run. Characters such as Melinda Warren (Tyler Layton), Penny Halliwell (Jennifer Rhodes), Patty Halliwell (Finola Hughes), and Victor Bennett (James Read) all came to be loved by the show for their input to the series...
