holy $%@&! That's $%@#*&^ amazing! I mean, wow! I do a lot of art work, and i'll tell you, you put my art work to shame! that's freaking amazing! Maybe i skipped over it, but what do you use? I use Prismacolor a lot, but these look to smooth to be just pencil. And that Wyatt Chris? um, HELLO!! but your Paige is simply stunning!

Thanks a lot! I swear, BTW, Shannen's eyes looked hazel in the photo I used! I'll see if I can touch them up!

longlivechris, I begin with a pencil sketch, then ink in the lines with an extra fine Sharpie; I then start shading a face with watercolor pencils, lay lecturer's chalk over it (midtones first, then darker; I use a kneaded eraser to pull highlights). I finish up by blending in the darker skintones with a mid-range warm gray or light brown Chartpak marker. Backrounds and large dark areas in hair are filled in using either Crayola colored markers(!), or generated in the computer, after I've scanned the drawing. If the scanned drawing seems too grainy, I will soften it using the Adobe PhotoDeluxe program that came with my printer, to get the 'look' I want.

The paper is 90 lb. card stock, BTW...

It sounds complicated, but it isn't, really; the most important thing is, always, to get as strong a likeness as you can, to start with. I sometimes will do 3-4 pencil sketches before I like the result well enough to ink it. Some faces just leap onto the page...some need a LOT of coaxing!

Actually, all of the latest 'batch' are fairly small, about 5X7 to 8X10 (the group caricature was 11X17)...I kept the sizes smaller to 'speed up' the process, a bit (it takes about 3-4 hours to complete a drawing, get it scanned, cleaned up, and posted).

Thank God so many of you have photo galleries with great "Charmed" photos to draw from! Whoever ends up with Paige in her picture, I'm gonna need help finding a reference picture of them to draw from!

Okay, I used the Prue/Andy computer scans, and changed her eyes to a darker blue...Whoever gets the actual drawings, though, will be the proud owner of a brown-eyed Prue!

How much do you sell them for and where do you buy them?

Actually, the prices vary; I charge clients $75 per person, for an 11X17, color drawing, $50 pp, in B&W (ordered from my website). Here in Vegas, I also draw at a caricature stand at the Fremont Street Experience, and do quick sketches for $10-$20, per person (live only, no photo work). I draw at parties for $100 per hour, two-hour minimum. My prices are pretty much in line with what most caricaturists charge (although Mort Drucker, Sebastian Kruger, and David Levine, the most famous and successful caricaturists around, ask, and get, $1000 to $5000 a drawing!)

Most professional artists don't do freebies (they think it devalues their work), but I get a kick out of drawing these, when I honestly love the subject (no, that doesn't mean I'll do more...I'm usually too busy to do too many!) I've done all of the American Presidents, the cast of "The Lost World", some "Superman"-related stuff, and, of course, "Charmed", all for 'fun'. The original artwork on these 'freebies' either becomes a gift for the person drawn (Will Snow has the "Lost World" Roxton drawing I did of him; the Bushes and Reagans have some of my stuff, as well), or a gift to a personal friend, or, occasionally, I'll donate a drawing to a worthy cause, to be auctioned off as a charity item (I've done this for heart and cancer research, and for spousal and child abuse centers).

As for the final disposition of the "Charmed" drawings, I haven't decided, yet; because of their odd sizes, they'd have to be matted and framed to offer them as 'sale' items, or as a gift to Brad, and I'm not certain whether the cast would be interested in getting them (does Alyssa really want a drawing of her with Julian McMahon?) I'd thought about giving the Wes/Drew picture to Lisa or ShantaD, to use to get more funding for their campaign for the "CharmedSons" series, but then, again, should I break up the set? Would there be enough interest in them to create prints to sell? (Of course, I have to consider copyright and licensing issues with Spelling, Paramount, and the WB if I go that route!)

If you get the permission from said people it should be all right. Nice to know you think of the charmed sons for the funraising idea. I'm the site webmaster for the charmed sons, it would be a good idea and we could advertise your site.
