This is my version of The Charmed Ones, thirty-something years after the vanquishing of the Triad, and Billie's sister, Christy. The Charmed Ones gave up their powers afterwards, and lived mortal lives, with the exception of their children, who embraced their powers and their destiny.
This also combines my grandmother's story, her illnesses and how they broke one of the strongest person in my life.
"So, Mrs. Halliwell, what brings you here?" asked Doctor Rini, an optometrist.
"Her annual as well as an update on her perscription," Leo Halliwell-Wyatt replied before his wife could skip the last part, refusing to let her weakness show.
"Well, let's take a look, shall we?"
The 28-year-old led 65-year-old Piper Halliwell-Wyatt into a smaller room, with equipment that looked impossible to learn how to control.
Piper sat down in front of a funnel-looking machine that she would look into so the doctor could measure her eyesight.
Only a couple seconds past when the doctor pulled her head back from the machine to stare at Leo. "Sir, has your wife been having headaches lately?" she asked, her voice full of concern.
"Yes, why? Is there a problem? We usually just blame it on the weather whenever it changes drastically like it does with the humidity we've been having."
"Well, she had a stroke. It's quite visable through her eyes--the nerves are damaged. I recommend you two go to the ER and have it checked out."
She met the glances of both Halliwell-Wyatts, before they got up and left.
They were planning on going to to see their son Wyatt's children: Matthew, who was ten; Mackenzie, who was eight; and Michelle who was five. But this was much more important--Piper's health was in jeapordy.
The couple drove siliently to the ER ten minutes down the road. Piper was strong; she wouldn't let the news bother her until it necessarly had to. Leo simply wished that he was still a whitelighter so he could heal his wife, even if it probably wouldn't have helped anyway, since the damage wasn't done by evil, just old age.
"Um, Miss, my wife was said to be having a stroke or had a stroke or something! She needs to be checked out immediatly! Leo raised his voice at the elderly woman behind the ER's main desk.
She smiled kindly, obviously having dealt with people in rare form before. "Sir, we have other critical patients we are dealing with. Please wait in the lobby."
"But every minute counts!!" Leo was trying stay calm, even as he kept on wishing he could heal her like all the times he had before.
The woman left the desk, trying to get help.
Piper who had remained was silent all this time, finaly spoke.
"Honey, I'm sure I'm fine. She didn't see anything that she was definite about. It's just eye strain."
She spoke in her most causal voice, but inside she was starting to painic What will happen to my family? Paige and Henry and their family and Phoebe and Coop and theirs. What about Wyatt, Chris, Melinda? They all need me and their kids need a grandmother. And what about Leo?
Leo sat down and took out his cellphone so he could start making calls to the family. He called Piper's sister first. Phoebe picked up after the second ring.
"Phoebe?"
"Hey Leo! What's up; you don't sound good?
"Piper isn't doing well...We're at the ER.." Even as he spoke, Piper gave Leo a look that could kill.
"What!" Phoebe could only think the worst. "Is she OK? What's wrong?"
"Phoebe, calm down. The optometrist said she had or is still having a stroke of some kind.."; Leo tried to sound as casual as Piper had, hoping Phoebe didn't hear the 'stroke' part.
"I'm coming over right now!" and Phoebe hung up before Leo could even respond.
The conversation was the same with Paige and Henry. He couldn't get a hold of their sons, Wyatt and Chris, who were both out of reach doing some demon-vanquishing but their daughter Melinda was concerned enough for all three of them. She managed to get a hold of her brothers and helped with the vanquish and the whole family all showed up within a 10-minute period, but Piper was already in the room with nurses taking her vitals and writing scribbles down on her chart--they had told Leo that she was being admitted.
