If we are to believe the history of the family, the Book of Shadows came into being in 1692-1693 and always had the triquetra on the cover.
Why put something on the cover of a book in 1693 if what the symbol represents will not fully arrive until 1977?
That's 284 years between the symbol on the book and the arival of Paige.
How does Melinda Warren or Prudence Warren justify the symbol?
I can see it now...
Melinda: It's for something that will show up in 284 years.
1693 book designer: Can't you wait another 100 years then put it on? What's the rush?

I just choose to believe that is the symbol Melinda chose to represent her lineage, plus it went along with her having 3 powers. And they just ended up claiming that symbol as the power of three.

*nods* I like the idea that she used it to represent both her three powers and her family, including the Charmed Ones.
Besides the triquetra is a Celtic knot, a Wiccan symbol. That would make sense for a Wiccan family's Book of Shadows, even if the sisters *were* raised Christian.

Plus Melinda has been to the future and the girls have been to the past. I mean, that's how Melinda knew that the charmed ones would be born and maybe that explains the symbol too?
