I wasn't really sure what to say in the subject, or even if their is a thread on what I am about to say. Anyway though, I was watching an episode earlier "We're Off to See the Wizard."
The wizard told the girls he didn't get a good look at the new source, but yet when he and the girls went down to the Underworld. The Wizard ran away to get the guards to follow him. At the moment, he made an illusion of the source to fool the guards. How could he made an illusion of Cole/The Source if he really didn't look at him?
I just happened to noticed that small error earlier.

Perhaps he simply didn't want to share that fact with the sisters, perhaps he was covering his own back incase they simply vanquished him and went after the Source themselves. Maybe he knew Cole was a part of their lives and he was quite happy to let them find out on their own!
Wizards are a tricky breed!

I think more in the line of The Grimoir, you know the evil version of the BoS. The wizard really wanted to get his hands on that book with all its dark spells and potions. He was the very last one of his kind, his brotherin had been killed decades ago not only by humans (not episode info, but historic knight tales) but also by demons. By time he had lost his mind due to the loneliness and now saw a chance to get his hands on The Grimoir in order to take revenge for the murdering of his brotherin.
If the brainwashed Phoebe had not not interfeared and killed the wizzard, he would also had succeded his goal and been able to get his hands on The Grimoir and get his revenge.
