No. It would only show that they have earned the right to become Warrens again and have earned the right to become the prophesied Charmed Ones with the powers that allow them to access The Power of Three. And in order to make such a huge jump from evildoers to Charmed, they would have to become totally opposite of what they were as the cousins. So says the law of karma, which I don't personally believe in, but since the alternate universe of Charmed has past lives, that universe obviously does.

Let's talk about Melinda's powers:

Where did she get them?
Her mom wasn't really a powers witch...she worked more with nature (like herbs and spices).
Somehow Melinda got physical powers--that were not seen by us during "all halliwells eve"--and I don't think it was from sweeping a broom or holding an apple all day.

Did she just have them from birth? Did they develop all at the same time or in stages?

I think Melinda was just the next natural step in the Warren lines evolution as witches. And she gained each ability at different times in her life.

Or

Charlottes parents were witches and the powers just skipped a generation. It happens.

Or

Charlotte got knocked up by a male witch who had powers and thats what started the Warren lines ability to pass on powers.

Or

Charlotte got knocked up by a demon in disguise and thats how Melinda got her powers

Or

Melinda was gifted with her powers (though I wouldnt go with this one since I dont like "being given powers by a higher source")

We can't really say that Charlotte wasn't really a powers witch. The coven that she worked with didn't have powers, but nothing says that she herself didn't. All we saw her in was labor (and we never saw Piper using her powers when she was in labor) and afterwards taking care of Baby Melinda. So it's highly likely that Charlotte had powers that were passed on to Melinda.

Also the idea of skipping a generation is definitely possible, since that's what happened in the Jenkinses family, where their grandmother had powers but their mother didn't, the reason why I always wondered if their grandmother was Penny Halliwell but their grandfather was a Jenkins, not a Halliwell.

All of these are good ones and definitely possible. My favorite explanation isn't here. It's from my all-time favorite fanfic, Kalvana's "Future Consequences". Here's her explanation:

Melinda nodded and turned back to the group that had gathered here in the family manor’s attic. “I was the eldest of the three, and I had what was considered the strongest of our powers, the power to move things with my mind. Maggie was the youngest and could freeze time. And Missy could see the future. We received word of a demon stealing children from a neighboring village. We went hunting. The beast was vicious.”

Melinda stood, beginning to pace the length of the room as she told her story. “He attacked us all, scratching and clawing all three of us. We retreated and soon we discovered that the wounds would not just heal on their own. I was the first to come down with the fever, feeling my insides burning. To this day, I do not know the kind of demon that we fought, so there was no looking in The Book of Shadows to discover an antidote. We knew that all of us were dying, but we didn’t want the Warren line to end with us, not after what our mother went through to bore me.”

Piper and Phoebe exchanged a look, remembering their part in those moments. It was odd how time continued to shift and how their actions were so connected to the past as well as the future.

Melinda shook her head. “We pooled our power, seeking answers. We saw the future, our futures if we were to survive. Maggie’s son’s power was great, but corrupted and used to both torture and kill innocents later in his life. Missy’s grandson was the same. I bore only a single daughter, and my daughter bore only daughters and as did her daughters and down the line to The Charmed Ones. None of them were corrupted, all of them fought for good, saving innocents. I was ready to die, knowing that I would have started a line of good witches even if it meant that The Charmed Ones would not be born.

“That is when the demon returned. We were all too weak to fight. And the demon saw an opportunity. He would gain minions, powerful minions. He agreed to heal one of us, if the other two surrendered to him willingly. I did not want to do it, did not want to allow it, but I had been most wounded in the attack and was the weakest. Missy and Maggie gave me their powers and surrendered themselves, first making me promise to protect the goodness of our line, to assure them that the only witches with the Warren blood would be good witches. I remember them going to the demon, kissing his cheek. He smirked at me and told me that no one from my line would be able to vanquish him or them, that if they did, our family's powers would be vanquished with them. The next thing I remember was waking up, healed and strong, with all three powers.”

“Why is our line supposed to bear only daughters?” Paige asked.

“My sisters saw to that,” Melinda explained. “When they gave me their powers, they cast a spell on me so that my line would bear only daughters because Warren powers will not corrupt women as nearly as easily as they will corrupt men.”

I also like to think that the powers are inherited but they may also change or adapt to the person who has them too.
If you start with Melinda she had three powers:
Telekinesis (the power to move things with your mind)
Temporal Stasis (Freeze Time)
Premonition

Prudence Warren Wentworth had Telekinesis and Premonition. Now her Telekinesis was extremely weak but her Premonition ability allowed to feel what was going on during it.

Cassandra Wentworth only had the ability of Premonition.

Brianna Bowen had the abilities Telekinesis and Advanced Telekinesis. (Similar to how Prue's power was developing towards)

Agnes Bowen who had Catoptromancy (a form of premonition by using a mirror)

P. Russell had the abilities of Pyrokinesis (the ability to move and create fire with one's mind. To me this is just another form of Telekinesis) and Divination (another form of Premonition)

P.Baxter had the ability of Temporal Reduction ( slow time down. A form of Melinda's Temporal Stasis)

P.Bowen had the ability of Cryokinesis(again this is just another form to Melinda's Telekinesis.)

Grams was then given Melinda's Telekinesis (moving things with your mind)

Patty also got Melinda's Temporal stasis (freeze time)

To me the family members we were shown through out the series leading up to the Charmed Ones all had either the same abilities as Melinda Warren or a different Version to hers. So in my opinion I think that as along as the power fit the phases of the moon and her prophecy any member of the family could have gotten a power that fit that persons personality.

Es if you were to read it you would see I put in parantheses what they do or the names for some people who can't seem to use the fancy names for the powers. I don't see anyone else on here saying that people can't use the actual names for the powers. Now they may not have used the names on the show but I can't help that these are names that they are called. Now I use "fancy" names because thats who I am I can't help it. The technical names are what help me keep these things straight. Now I also will put in what else they are called or what they do if people don't understand the "fancy". So either you can read my posts or comments or skip over them I don't care.

Good points. If we think about it, nobody ever actually said that EVERY Warren witch would have one (or more) of Melinda's 'Big Three' powers. Melinda made some comment in 'The Witch is Back' about 'the powers' being part of the Warren line, but that's a pretty open-ended statement. All that was really stated was that each generation would become STRONGER.

Personally, I think the fact that Penny, Patty and the girls (the most recent 'three' generations) had a 'Big Three' power was a sign of the coming of the Charmed Ones, and that the sisters are indeed 'Charmed' because they each have one of Melinda's three original gifts. This would explain why Paige was able to 'replace' Prue, because she basically did take her power-place in that generation.

Plus, we could debate as to whether the 'three essentials of magic': 'timing (freezing), feeling (premonition/empathy) and phases of the moon (movement)': relate to the 'Big Three' powers and are another reason that the sisters are 'Charmed'. If this is the case, that would suggest Melinda herself was 'Charmed' (but not in a Power of Three, obviously) and that each sister should've had their own three, unique gifts to pass on (meaning: a 'Big Three' power and two additional ones).
