Tomorrow is the eighth anniversery of 9-11. I remember hearing this song on the radio being played over and over, and I still can't listen to it without recalling to mind that most devastating moment in time. Though the piece is used on "Foot Loose" (1984), I will never hear it again as a fun, joyful piece of music. NO, it is now something that saddens me, but also reminds me to give thought to those who died and to those who fought and died trying to help.....GR "Holding Out For A Hero"Where have all the good men gone And where are all the gods? Where's the street-wise Hercules To fight the rising odds? Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed? Late at night I I toss and turn and dream of what I need [Chorus] I need a hero I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night He's gotta be strong And he's gotta be fast And he's gotta be fresh from the fight I need a hero I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light He's gotta be sure And it's gotta be soon And he's gotta be larger than life Somewhere after midnight In my wildest fantasy Somewhere just beyond my reach There's someone reaching back for me Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet [Chorus] Up where the mountains meet the heavens above Out where the lightning splits the sea I would swear that there's someone somewhere Watching me Through the wind and the chill and the rain And the storm and the flood I can feel his approach Like the fire in my blood Some links to remember: www.9-11heroes.us/911-heroes-song.phpimages.google.com/images?hl=en&resnum=0&q=remembering+9-11&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=l32pSvboOpSxlAe7mp3nBg&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1www.911-remember.com/suzanvitti.org/poems.html

Another way to remember 9-11. One of our best writers, noazmale, wrote a couple of fanfics that bring 9-11 to the Charmedverse. Among my favorite fics and ones I read each 9-11: 9-11While Piper and Phoebe try to deal with the loss of Prue, Leo suddenly gets a summons from the Elders. A summons which he says is so urgent it has rarely been issued in the past.True Americans(Authors note: It was necessary for me to take some minor liberties with this story. The attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the airliner that crashed in Pennsylvania occurred between seasons 3 and 4 of Charmed and technically Prue had already died. I hope my readers will forgive the inconsistency between this story and the Charmed timeline. This is my tribute to those brave souls who perished on that horrible day in American and world history. It is based on an actual incident reported in the news following that terrible disaster.)
When Prue and Piper visit Phoebe at school during the attack on the World Trade Center, they become involved in a confrontation between some students who approach a student of Saudi Arabian descent. And my favorite tribute to 9-11: When the World Stopped Turning, a 9-11 Tribute

That's a song by Alan Jackson. I love that song, and makes me cry when I hear it. Very beautiful song, and the video strikes your heart as u listen to the words. The song hero, I don't know it, but I do like the lyrics for that song too. Both good choices.

The song hero, I don't know it, but I do like the lyrics for that song too. Both good choices. Its an old song by Bonnie Tyler, often named wrong as "I Need a Hero" www.youtube.com/watch?v=7f_HsjpSVaIBut i have to admit it pisses me of when people choose to use good songs for something that they are not even related to. Its like when American television abused Enya's song Only Time for their "remember" videos without asking if they even were allowed. Enya got very pissed when she found out what they were doing to her song, because the lyrics has absolutely nothing to do with what they eventually turned it into because of the video footage.

I think that's why the videos that used Alan Jackson's song are the best. He wrote that song about 9-11---he says he was given the words in a dream, so it makes sense that that's the song that should be used, especially because I think every emotion he talks about in that song is one I felt that day, and I'm sure so did everyone else:
Did you stand there in shock At the site of that black smoke Rising against that blue sky?
(Yes, I did--it's my biggest memory, how blue that sky was and how dark that smoke was)
Did you shout out in anger In fear for your neighbor Or did you just sit down and cry?
(Both)
Did you weep for the children Who lost their dear loved ones? And pray for the ones who don't know?
(Definitely)
Did you rejoice for the people Who walked from the rubble And sob for the ones left below?
(Oh, yes)
Did you burst out in pride For the red, white and blue The heroes who died Just doing what they do?
(Oh, yes--I never felt prouder to be an American than I did that day)
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer And look at yourself to what really matters?
(Yes, I did that, too)
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor In a crowded room did you feel alone?
(Not the first, but yes to the second)
Did you call up your mother And tell her you love her?
(Oh, yes, I truly did that, and now that she's gone, I'm so glad I did!)
Did you dust off that Bible at home?
(Yes, I read a full chapter that night for the first time in I'm not sure how long...)
Did you open your eyes And hope it never happened, Close your eyes and not go to sleep?
(Yup, and when I did go to sleep had nightmares about it)
Did you notice the sunset The first time in ages Speak with some stranger on the street?
(And, yes, I did, that, too.)
Did you lay down at night And think of tomorrow, Go out and buy you a gun?
(Yes, to the first, no to the second)
Did you turn off that violent old movie You weree watching And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns?
(Well, I don't watch violent movies, but, believe it or not, I did turn to Nickolodean and watch a bunch of old sitcoms)
Did you go to a church And hold hands with some stranger, Stand in line and give your own blood?
(Yup, did both)
Did you just stay home And cling tight to your family?
(Not quite, since I live alone, but after talking to Mom, I called every one of my brothers and sisters and all of my friends)
Thank God you had somebody to love
(Amen!)
And I'll bet most of you can answer these questions the same way--what a great way to remember!
