I could never understand Phoebe's empathy. When, I think of empathy, I think of something like Deanna Troi or that one empathy in the Star Trek Original Series that had her actually taking on injuries to heal others.
Phoebe would just either act really weird or use her empathic power to harness demon's powers and use it against them. I'm not sure how that worked either.
I wouldn't mind seeing more subtle uses of powers since that magic is supposed to be a secret from mortals.

I liked when Prue was able to use her empathy to use the demon's emotions (who says they don't have them?) against the demon, making her powers better. It's why Phoebe having it didn't make much sense. Another horrible try of giving her an active power, when she should've been the most powerful witch by using her non-active ones. Amen! For all the emphasis on non-exposure, this never made a lot of sense.

Another horrible try of giving her an active power, when she should've been the most powerful witch by using her non-active ones. THANK YOU!! This is the argument that I've tried to prove to others over and over. Phoebe is best when armed with passive powers. Since birth, she's been having premonitions. In fact, it was her premonition power that warned Patty of the Charmed Ones' future arrival. Also when being born, Phoebe gave Patty a premonition that they were all going to be okay up until the day of Piper's wedding. So when she was in the womb, it was her passive power that made a huge difference. When she temporarily gained flying, fire-throwing, electro-mental ignition (alternate future), energyballs, and all those other active powers, she couldn't handle them by either abusing them, or allowing the power to consume her...including empathy. And Look what happened! She eventually started using all of her powers for personal gain and had to have them bound by the council (Crime and Witch Demeanors). Over-active powers made the show a little corny, but with Phoebe it was definitely a sore choice..

I suppose that is essentially why they introduced the Cleaners. Made everything so much easier for the writers.

You'd think the youngest and most carefree would get the most active, obvious power, but they completely reversed that assumption. Phoebe having a passive power allowed her to grow as a person. Giving her an active one didn't challenge her ways of thinking and doing things. Her premonitions helped her just as much as others.

All of her storylines is centered around her 'quest for love'. There's something... sickening about that. I don't know why. Also, a corny power in my mind is summoning stuff. I just hate it when someone just conjure something out of thin air not because they didn't have a choice but they were showing off. Like, "Look, I have magical powers. Watch me!" Like Simon summoning up a glove in public to slap Henry with.

It's sickening because it's so not Phoebe. She had so much potential to go past the typical plot of the girl chasing romance and the writers ignored that.
The summoning is annoying just because of why you said. If such random, silly things are possible, there's really no magic anymore. The fun exists because there's a challenge to things. Just think if the sisters could snap their fingers and have literally anything in the world happen. They would destroy themselves with that kind of power, and it would get old quickly. Their basic powers combined with still getting used to them in the early years made for the best times for the powers, IMO.

Like I keep saying, when being used the way they were supposed to be used, the three original powers - the power to see the future so they could know which innocents needed their help; the power to stop time so they could freeze the scene and decide what to do, and the power to move things with their mind for defensive sake was truly all they needed (and I put the importance of the powers in that order...). Add potion and spells, what else did they truly need? As far as I'm concerned, any other power was corny - including Leo being able to heat Phoebe's tea.

The problem I have is this assumption that having a "passive" power made one less powerful than someone with an "active" power. If there is one aspect about Phoebe that really irritated me was her assumption that she was less powerful, because she had a "passive" power. Which goes to show how stupid she was to underestimate the power of her premonitions.

Some powers did made me roll my eyes. But the magical community powers made me laugh at how stupid it was. lol

The worst power had to be the witch in the pilot with the barbeque lighter fingers. It was so basic and useless?
Also Hannah being able to turn into a panther was a little Harry Potter bad for me.
I know this is about corny powers but I really did love the witch in S3 who had the power of deflection. It would have been cool if one of the sisters had got this power. Paige sortof used her orbing power like this to "deflect" things thrown at her like energy balls, fire balls, etc.
