Why does Darryl's age matter? Do we even know how old Darryl is? Darryl really IS the one anyone could do anything with. Race, age... He was just Andy's partner.

If you take Darryl as AE originally asked - 26+, no way this guy would work. But if you simply wanted him as Andy's partner, then age doesn't matter.
I do like your redheaded choices, AE, although I personally would love to see my favorite redhead and Charmed alumnae, Amy Adams, as one of the Halliwells, or better, as Melinda Warren.
Another totally different way of thinking of this - the redheads made me think of it, since they make me think of Celtics. Rather than living in San Francisco or even in America, what if the Warrens never came over to America? What if the remake was about the Warrens living in Great Britain - Ireland or Scotland or even England or Wales?
Who would you cast then?

Following the red headed Charmed Ones idea, how about: Annie Wersching as a thirty year old, Prue. Strong, conserative, moral but also slightly vulunerable. Alot like her character, Renee Walker in 24. Deborah Ann Woll is no stranger to fantasy television starring in Vampire Diaries and she would be my pick for Piper. Perhaps a little more ballsy than Holly's Piper but still remains the shy, neurotic Piper we know and love. Finally, I would cast Emma Stone as Phoebe. She would be spunky, fresh and very "current". She'd perhaps be a bit more cheeky, quirky and dominating than the Phoebe we know and will be someone who is likely to give Prue a run for her money as head witch. I would cast the extremely talented Blair Brown as Grams with Gillian Anderson as Patty. I love this cast!

Amy Adams was on my list, Es, but I consider her a little too famous for TV nower days. She has bigger fish to fry and I'm glad she's currently doing quite well in Hollywood. And if it was set in Britain, Karen Gillan would be the first actress on my list. That is if the sisters were red headed/auburn. And with Gillan as the first actress on my list, I'd have it set in Scotland, or atleast have the three from Scotland, perhaps reloacted. Unaware of Ms Gillan. Take a look at this, probably the most dramatic moment in Doctor Who history. I would cast Isla Fisher as Prue, Karen Gillan as Piper and Sophie Kennedy Clark as Phoebe. And I would cast David Tennant as Andy, Tony Curran as Darryl and James McAvoy as Leo. With Julianne Moore as Patty and Hannah Gordon as Grams.

Hehehehe, you're probably right about Amy, AE, but that's why I liked the idea of her as just a guest star like Melinda Warren.
Although I'm not much of a Dr. Who fan, I'm still happy with your Scottish Warrens. Now that could make for a great remake!

Obviously Isla Fisher, James McAvoy and Julianne Moore are also quite Hollywood nower days, so it would be quite difficult to pull them back over to TV but it's a possibility if it was still produced by an American network. The BBC don't quite have the same pulling power as a network like Fox.

Then why not have the Halliwells, Andy and other characters recast with actors and actresses who are not either white or in their mid-to-late 20s, if Darryl's age and race doesn't matter that much?

You could have the sisters or Andy from different ethnicitys but they have to be in their twenties/early thirites because the show is about three young sisters. Their youth was a big part of the show, them growing up, learning about their heritage, finding love etc...

The ages DO matter for the sisters and Andy, but race? Nope.

Why would age matter? Younger Charmed Ones or even older ones who just find out that they're Charmed could be just as interesting - particularly if one or more are already in a non-demonic relationship, particularly if they're already married and have kids.
If you had one in her thirties, one in her twenties and one in her teens, it could be very interesting, particularly if they acted like the Oldest (already married with kids), the Middle (just in the midst of a relationship) and the Baby (high school angst!).
It all depends upon what you mean by recasting Charmed. If it's the same exact storyline but just with different actors (boring) then, yes, it would matter, but then so would Darryl's age. But if it was a remake, then there's no real limitation of who you could or could not cast.

That's not really Charmed if you start it off like your idea, Es. It's a completely different show altogether. Why not just make something NEW instead of remaking Charmed?

As long as the sister aspect it still there than it is Charmed, it doesn't matter what age they are because that is not what the show is about.

Exactly. The best remakes have been ones that are *similar* to the original, but not exactly. As long as you have the idea of sisters who are witches and not witches who are demon-hunters, the rest truly doesn't matter. As long as their names were still Prue, Piper and Phoebe and they were sisters who had just found out that they were witches (and even that could be changed - it might be that they've always known but have just received their powers due to Grams' death), the rest is changeable and should be.
ETA: I just went back and re-read the original post and forgot what this thread was supposed to be about. It was who you would cast if Charmed had first been aired *now* rather than in the 90's and that totally changes what I wrote - I was thinking of a remake that would be compared to the original, in which case it would have to be done differently in order to be successful.
But it also means that the people would be cast according to Connie Burge's script, so if that's the case, since Connie would've put ages into the script, Darryl *would* be around the same age as Andy, meaning the guy AE suggested would *not* work.
But hair color, skin color, etc., definitely would not matter.

Es, I do like your idea about the drastically different ages of the sisters but agree with AW in a way, it wouldn't be very "Charmed". The fact they were young was a big part of the show and the whole 'Halliwell's die before their time' factor wouldn't be included.
But yes, say Prue was around 33/34, Piper was around 26/27 and Phoebe was around 18/19 - they would have to make it so Patty had Prue in her late teens and then had Phoebe in her mid-thirties, that way if needed, it would give them chance to realistically fit Paige's birth into there, after all women can have children up until there late forties in some cases.
If Prue was married with kids though, it would change the dynamic of her character, in the series Prue was always the most mothering, yet less maternal if that makes sense. She was good at protecting her sisters, yet I think if she had a child, she would be the least maternal, which means for her to be married with kids they would have to change her personality in some ways. Although I think having Phoebe as the young, irresponsible aunt would be a good element, and also Prue's wonders about telling her husband, and wondering if her children were supernatural.

But that's the point. If Charmed was going to be remade, the biggest complaint against the three original sisters was Prue was too bossy, Piper whined too much about a normal life, and Phoebe was Freebie (which I can argue she truly wasn't, that she was "all talk and no action" and that Cole was truly her "first" - particularly if you ignore the high school reunion part of Hyde Park Reunion, which I always felt was just done to hype The WB's short-lived show "High School Reunion" which previewed directly after this episode - but it's what most fans didn't like about her). Undoubtedly if there was a remake, those characteristics would be taken away from those characters. Prue married with kid(s) would definitely change her part of it.
The other thing that most people complain about is that most of the first couple seasons was "All About Prue" and that she was Superwitch. I don't agree, but that would definitely be something that could/should be changed, allowing all three sisters an equally large role. Naturally it was originally done that way because Shannen was the star, the reason the show was even originally aired - The WB wouldn't have done it without a star - especially before Alyssa joined in, and the show was picked up before she was. But hopefully they would chose three actors who are just as well known and should/would all have a big role. Also, I would not include an episode like "That 70's Episode" which let Grams know that she would not be alive when the sisters became Charmed. That's part of why she trained Prue to be the leader she was and without that, you'd have a different, probably much more likeable Prue (and she's my favorite sister, but would not have been had the show ended after three seasons, like I feel it should've. During the first three seasons, I loved all of them - so very unlike the last five seasons, especially the last three - but she's my least-favorite).
But I would prefer the sisters knowing that they are going to be Charmed and that Grams trained them that the greater the powers, the greater the responsibility. Not the whole personal gain crap (unless it was like Season One and Phoebe's lottery ticket, which I would've prefered), but so they would know how to use their powers properly. It would make a different, but much better, series.

Hmm, I agree on your views on the characters, but I am one of those people that felt there was too much emphasis on Prue, not too much that it became 'The Prue Halliwell Show' but enough to notice that she was favoured by the writers.
Obviously if it was a 'remake' then the characters would have to be different, if you just plonked different actors in the same shoes as the originals it would be boring and totally defeat the object of taking the show in a new direction. And hmm, Grams training them would have taken something away from it if you ask me, like the first season would show them almost super powerful - I think the fact that it took them half the first season to truly master their powers and accept their heritage made the show what it became.
Even though it was a supernatural series, it maintained that steady balance of reality and magic, and made the presence of witches in our world almost realistic to believe. I think the fact that they'd been trained as protectors of the innocent gives off a different feel, and that they wouldn't crave a normal life as much as they did, which, whether people like it or not, was a big part of what made the show successful.

I kinda agree with Alex. I can't imagine Grams not binding their powers, as Nicholas was still a threat (although in the remake that storyline can be retold... hmm...) But I'd still prefer the idea that the sisters were in the dark about their powers, and that maybe Grams left subtle clues around the Manor. That'd be a great set-up if the girls had just moved into the house together for the first time since Grams' death. They could find clues all over the house for sometime during S1 - maybe it'd make the Manor more of a 'character' in itself than it was on the show. alex - "The Prue Halliwell Show" was the exact term I used to describe how I felt about the first three seasons the other day xD Maybe it's not as bad as I think, but Prue definitely got some of the more interesting storylines over the first three seasons. I'm not sure how I feel about the ages ranging so greatly. Yeah they'd still be sisters, but I can't imagine them being as close as they were on the show.

If the first three seasons was indeed, "The Prue Halliwell Show" than making the last five seasons "The Piper Halliwell Show" was the most consistent thing the Charmed producers/writers ever did. Each version made the eldest sister the true central character. Hahaha... couldn't resist that jab!
