No, the last five weren't "The Piper Halliwell Show" - they were "The Perils of Poor, Poor, Pitiful Piper" - I definitely prefered "Prue and Her Sisters".

I like some of you guys' ideas, however, the idea of Jack Coleman playing Darryl Morris makes me sick to my stomach. I cannot see for the life of me how he could convincingly pull off playing a role of a character a few decades younger than he is. Plus, it's got nothing to do with Jack Coleman being White, (or it could depending on who's reading this), but he does not have a "Darryl" vibe.
Darryl isn't "just" Andy's partner, y'know. He had a distinct personality & vibe that made him who he was, and slapping just any old other actor onto him will, essentially, change Darryl into something else too far removed from the original; which was unique and special all on its own. Plus, Dorian Gregory is simply 200x sexier and more attractive than Jack Coleman. This is fact! ;D
As for TCO being played by actors of other ethnicities as some people suggested? I wouldn't do it. The mythology of the show comes from European folkore and mythological traditions. For example, If TCO were three African-American sisters, the Charmedverse would, obviously, be based in African folklore and mythological traditions, specifically West African, since African-Americans are mostly West African, genetically.
I can't find myself believing that three powerful Black sister witches would have a powerful Wiccan lineage using "The Book of Shadows", Athames and brewing potions using mugwort and mandrake roots. It'd probably be a powerful Hoodoo lineage using "The Book of Conjure", and they'd use Fetishes instead of Athames, and their potions would have High John the Conquer root and Devil's Shoestring. Instead of "warlocks", there'd be obias. Instead of "whitelighters", there'd be family guardians. Ogres, Poltergeists, Grimlocks, Banshees and Fairies would be replaced by Zombies, Haunts, Boo Hags and Yumboes.
So when it comes to recasting Charmed, ethnic background does matter.
Hmmm. Three Latina Charmed Ones sounds very intriguing, too!

I actually might watch Charmed with same ages but different ethnicities now that you brought that up. That sounds fun. Only if they actually focused on that aspect!

Yeah, Assassin Witch, I agree! It would be interesting. I would definitely write an alternate universe fanfic of Charmed using African-American witches, but my actual novel is already about four African-American cousins who are witches, so, I'll just stick to my own creative work.

Now *that's* the type of remake that I would like - especially if the executive producer was someone who knew African-American history and had the power from up above (like what Connie/Kern had/didn't have from Spelling Productions/TheWB) to actually keep it consistent with African-American beliefs. And rather than in San Francisco, I'd have it take place in New Orleans or even in the Carribean and bring in voodoo. I've read books about that and it sounds like it could be very interesting.

New Orleans, or even Baton Rouge, would be the perfect setting for that sort of a remake. I now feel the itch of inspiration to do a remake of "Charmed", but I'm trying to stick to my own story and show restraint 'cause I know ideas will bleed over. ;D
Yet for the sake of feeding my own desire to create new things, the show'd still be called "Charmed", but there'd be four sisters (there are a lot of "power of four" mythologies in West African cultures), named Jennifer, Janelle, Jewel and Jessica Rootman, and their ancestor would be a runaway-slave property owner by the name of Rebecca, who was burned at the stake by a council of witch-hunters for placing a curse against her masters and killing them with her powers. Just like in the real "Charmed", the sisters would have their foremother's powers. I can see the powers being geokinesis, hydrokinesis, aerokinesis and pyrokinesis.
And...just as I suspected, this sounds annoyingly close to my own story. So, I'll shut up now. ;D

Hehehehe! Well, if you ever get bored with your own story and want to do it as a Charmed remake virtual series (including having a nightclub called R4...) go for it, coz although I don't think I'd be interested in your original story, I'd definitely be interested in a Charmed remake with these ideas.
I particularly like the powers, based on the four elements...

But, Es. How would the original story differ from "Charmed"? How would you be able to tell the difference if it was an AU fic or original?

*shrug* That you'd have to as NW - he obviously knows his story better than we do.
For me, if it was a recast, I'd want it to follow a similar storyline as the original, but showing how it would be different with a totally different cast - four African-American women (although I think I'd prefer four African-American men, just to make it truly different from Charmed and from NW's original story) who have powers from their foremother, but using the African-American culture. I think it would be fascinating!

Four African-American male witches inheriting power from their foremother? I...like this. I like this a lot. It makes me, as an African-American man, feel quite special. ;D Maybe I could write a virtual series with these four men, then.

Well, if I had written my post properly, I meant that if it was four African-American women, they'd inherit their powers from their foremother, so if it was four African-American men (an alternate suggestion of mine), it would be inheriting from their forefather, but if you think it would go better with it being four men inheriting from their forefather, go for it.
If it inspires you to try, go for it, but I really hope that it's a *remake* as compared to a *reboot*, with showing how your four would've handled the problems the sisters handled in each episode, especially during the first season. If if was too different, I, for one, would lose interest very quickly. But if the first season was similar enough and I got caught up in the characters enough, then you could change the plotline during the second season (hopefully your Piper and your Leo wouldn't get married until the finale of your series so your series wouldn't jump the shark as Charmed did) and I'd still be interested.
ETA: I just hope it doesn't stop you from working on "Destiny is a Witch" because I *really* want to read that one!

Uh, color me confused, I haven't posted to this thread in a while, why would it stop me from working on "Destiny is a Witch"? I may have missed something, too many threads, can't keep them all straight and all that, but I'm really not following here. Ok, some off the other threads are close to this one and there does seem to be a lot of over lap. Is that what I'm seeing?

If it could be any actress, not worrying about availability etc.
Prue: Jessica Biel
Piper: Michelle Tratchenberg
Phoebe: Ashley Green
Andy: Chris Pine
Darryl: Jesse Williams

I still like the idea of the sisters being drastically different ages, and Prue starting the show with a husband and child. I'd put them at like Prue (35), Piper (25), Phoebe (17/18) and if Paige was around then she would be around (15/16).

Hmm, maybe your right, and it would be good actually to have a huge age gap between Prue and Piper and Phoebe. Like Prue and Piper in their thirties whilst Phoebe is in her late teens - cause more friction on her arrival from New York.

While Prue and Piper are in their early thirties, allow Phoebe to be in her early twenties and Paige, in her late teens.

Prue could of been 31, Piper 27 and Phoebe 21. With Paige about 15/16 in 1998. That would of given the age gaps you need without making Prue and Piper too old straight away.
I'd also like Cole to be older, say looks about mid to late thirties, which makes his and Phoebe's relationship strained for the beginning with Prue frowning over the fact that Phoebe is dating someone old enough to be her father.

I agree - Cole being older would also give him a more dominant presence etc.

So I'm going to have an unconventional reply here with this. How come nobody is casting Paige? All the "charmed ones" in real life are all round the same age, none have the age gaps you guys are casting them as....so I too cast them around the same age, I think the girls need a little spice to their "looks" so I would recast blondes and here are the ones I came up with:
Prue: Ashley Tisdale Piper: Amanda Seyfried Phoebe: Mary Kate Olsen Paige: Hayden Panettiere
All of them are short, blonde and have some sasiness to them, which I love. I actually think it would be better if they did a continuation and used these girls as the daughters of the charmed ones and have new names like: Paris, Peyton, Perri, and Presley.
