The Valkyrie (which were part of S6, not S5, which this thread is about... ) were used for one reason and one reason only - to dress Holly, Alyssa and Rose in revealing costumes. Just like "Oh, My Goddess!" - so they could use the "toga party" in their ads. Hence why the Valkryies weren't used again - they wanted the Charmed Ones in revealing costumes, not the guest stars. No one took Charmed seriously when so many of the latter episodes were set up for one reason and one reason only - sell sex. A shame, since it should've/could've been the strongest storyline. Unfortunately, with the way Kern wrote them, they are four of my least-favorite episodes, the premiere of "The Perils of Poor, Poor Pitiful Piper". (I will always count "Oh, My Goddess!" as part of S6, not S5.) This thread is titled The Magical Community. They extended beyond season 5 so who cares? It isn't as if the topic was being derailed. It doesn't matter if they were in season 6 they are part of the magical community yes? I don't understand why you constantly feel the need to bash Piper in every thread you post in. Since I've joined this forum you've done nothing but derail topics with your "The Perils of Poor, Poor Pitiful Piper" and turn it the topic into anti Piper. You did the same thing in other threads. Especially in the Which is Phoebe's best season thread. If you want to get technical and try correcting people then please take your own advice. That has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. I respect your opinion and how you feel about her, but If you feel so strongly to continuously turn every topic into how you can't stand Piper than just make your own thread about it and bash her all you want. The constant repeats and derailing of topic is starting to get annoying.

Your last sentence is so my opinion!! Charmed added a lot of things to its universe but never mentioned it then again. Urgh, this always got on my nerves!! One prime example: the Valkyries. They were training warriors for the final world battle, right? I feel like if the Ultimate Power battle had been set up to be some sort of impressive spectacle like a battle between two armies or something rather than just the Charmed Ones vs. Billie and Christy, they could've done it then. Even the Comics wasted the opportunity, really. Then again, I think they wrote themselves into that corner by being specific about it being the FINAL world battle the Valkyries were preparing for, as in the absolute last ultimate battle to determine the fate of the universe, which combined with Wyatt and Chris's future means that card's basically never gonna be played with the Charmed Ones. This was the problem with the Charmed ones as well. How many final battles did they face? And I believe whoever mentioned that the Valkyries in season 7 was right, I remember seeing 1 or 2 of them in the manor - which only further derails their non-explanation in the show.

And then they vanish until Something Wicca This Way Goes I would just like to know, what final battle are they talking about? In the grander sense like heaven vs hell final battle? Or some big shot demon who'll be a threat?

Gotta play the "fill in the blanks" game and get one possible answer out of Norse mythology: But then, they never went into those details, either straightforward or adapted, for a reason; they never intended to use the Valkyries much or for very long. Which is kind of a shame IMO.

It is a shame. Had they delved more into mythology with the magical beings than they could've potentially been more interesting. But how would you felt had they used Norse mythology on the Valkyries and included Norse Gods? They already used Greek Gods.

It's not like they cared about how it fit into the mythology anyways. So it would have been interesting to see them use the Valkaries more. Maybe they could have been the Elder's army/mercenaries (Like the Source's group of Generals which Litvack from season 2 was a member of) with the Whitelighters were peaceful front members. It would fit connect, Valkaries would be souls of noble warriors and Whitelighters would be souls of peaceful do-gooders. Maybe Andy became a Valkarie.

Strange though, since I'm interested in that field, that Valhalla was suited on a tropic island where in the Norse mythology, it's a Great Hall for all fallen warriors (on a battlefield) where they drink Met (a drink from honey) with Wotan/Odin and the Valkyries serve them. Plus, they bring the warriors to this hall. Just FYI.

Lol. Every depiction I've seen of Valkyries its always been in a setting of winter with ton of snow and cold. Including other television programs, they always seemed to be consistent in that area. And the folk of Norse-land being drinkers. Charmed is the only show that I've ever seen that has Valkyries on a remote island filled with woman in tropical paradise lol. It sort of reminds me of the Wonder Woman concept of Paradise Island where they train warriors.

The only thing I liked about the magical community was the Mermaid Miley. I love Jamie; the actress that played her. It was weird though that there was literally only one mermaid swimming around. What happened to all the others?

I only liked the 'Community Members' who served a genuine purpose to the show. As someone else has posted, I think of the 'Magical Community' as a loose network of Witches, Warlocks, Demons, Angels, Elders, Whitelighters and Darklighters who work together/against each other but are not a 'community' in the sense that they live in Hobbit-esque caves in random grassy areas. Thus it probably goes without saying that I hated the introduction of Fairies, Elves, Ogres, Dwarves, Gods, Zen Masters, Leprechauns and Nymphs. The only two I didn't mind were Sandmen and Mermaids, because I felt they were relevant to the episodes in which they appeared.
Of course I loved Grimlocks, Vampires, Harpies, Furies and Banshees, but I consider them demonic species. I loved the Gypsies and the Seers/Crone but again I consider them relevant and kind of sub-species. I didn't mind the in between species like Wizards or Witch Doctors either.
I just hate anything that doesn't look authentic to the Charmedverse i.e. Disney characters.

I liked the gypsies because they went so well with witches; their magic running in the family, rich in heritage. I think it's a shame they never explored that more, especially since it seemed like they were going to by the way they ended the episode.
I don't necessarily mind all the different creatures, I just wish they could have been more balanced with the witchcraft. I would have liked to see more of the witch community, more covens etc.
As for the creatures we did get, I was okay with most of them when used well. I didn't mind mermaids; I enjoyed that episode a lot more than Oh My Goddess or the Valkyries. My main issue was when it was a blatant excuse to get them into ridiculous costumes... which is why "Witches in Tights" is one of my least favourite episodes.

I was fine with the creatures until we delved into leprechauns and dwarf mode, that's when I knew the show had hit the mud.

It's a shame Charmed Noir was so late in the show... the same way people say they "jumped the shark" or "nuked the fridge", we could've said Charmed "shot the gnome". I could see that going viral

The Magical Community was almost the end of Charmed for me. I'm sorry, but once the fairies, dwarves, nymphs, leprechauns, etc. showed up, I could no longer take Charmed seriously. The Community was so full of stereotypes it was pathetic. Did Kern sit his writers down and make them watch the Disney Channel for ideas?
I wish I could introduce said Magical Community to Mr. Lovecraft's world
Paige: Hey, what happened to the Magical Community?
Phoebe: I don't know, they all vanished for some reason.
Piper: Yeah, I tried scrying for them. Nothing!
Cthulhu: *BURP!*

Pretty much what Tim said. Admittedly, I was fine with how the fairies and trolls were handled in "Once Upon a Time." Only children could see them (which was more realistic), and the portrayal was less fairytale, more horror. Those trolls were creepy! However, the Magical Community as we saw them from Season 5 onwards was just a joke. Talk about the fluffiest, most clichéd portrayals you could think of! Many otherwise good episodes in the later seasons (like "Spin City" and "Something Wicca This Way Goes") were almost ruined by the inclusion of these stoopid majickal kreatures.

The Magical Community is probably one of the reasons Charmed ended up as the punch line to many a joke. The inclusion of these creatures seriously damaged the credibility of the show, IMO.
As BettyN pointed out, many a good episode was ruined by the insertion of these Disney rejects into them. Put this in the "What the heck were they thinking?" file.

See, here's the deal. I like the idea of the various creatures from different myths, as they offer a contrasting balance with all the varying species of demons. The problem is a lot of the execution was childish and milquetoast and as a result very few of the creatures managed to maintain interest, and even then the only times they were used again where when Kernun Creative felt the need to stock up on good guys for a scene or two here and there in the last season(s).

That was the whole problem. Those Disney rejects made it impossible for me to take Charmed seriously anymore.

Eurgh, God I hated the magical community, so cheesy and childish. And in season 8, when they betrayed The Charmed Ones and took the side of two witches they barely knew....lost any shred of respect I had left for them.
