Looking forward to adding my choices when I finish the S1 re-watch. But so far 'Dead Man Dating, 'The Witch is Back, 'From Fear to Eternity', 'Secrets and Guys' and 'Is There a Wooogy in the House' are on my list of eight. But I'm sure 'That 70's Episode' and 'Deja Vu All Over Again' will likely be on it too. So that's 7, so I'll figure out my last pick assuming it's not one yet to be watched later. I don't think 'Which Prue It it Anyway' having re-watched it this past weekend will make my picks. But if 70s and Deja Vu do (and I feel like they will). It'll be fun to make my last pick. It'll come down to how I felt during our re-watch and likely whichever one got an A.

I'll admit that there are redeeming qualities in all of the S1 episodes, even though I don't like watching a number of them (like Dream Sorcerer) that was just too scary for me. But even skipping those scary ones, I still had a very hard time choosing just 8. I realized that I've never listed my choices. The first six were easy, since I gave them an A+ on a recent re-watch. They are (in viewing order): 1. Dead Man Dating 2. The Witch is Back 3. Wicca Envy 4. Secrets and Guys 5. That Seventies Episode 6. Love Hurts 7. Deja vu All Over Again But that 8th one was tough since I have a bunch that got A's. So I just voted for 7. Here are my grades for the entire season: 1. Something Wicca This Way Comes - A 2. I've Got You Under My Skin - B 3. Thank You For Not Morphing - A- 4. Dead Man Dating - A+ 5. Dream Sorcerer - C- 6. Wedding From Hell - C- 7. The Fourth Sister - A 8. The Truth is Out There and It Hurts - A 9. The Witch is Back - A+ 10. Wicca Envy - A+ 11. Feats of Clay - B- 12. The Wendigo - C- 13. From Fear to Eternity - A 14. Secrets and Guys - A+ 15. Is There a Woogy in the House? - A 16. Which Prue Is It Anyway? - A 17. That Seventies Episode - A++ 18. When Bad Warlocks Turn Good - A 19. Out of Sight - A- 20. The Power of Two - A 21. Love Hurts - A+ 22. Deja vu All Over Again - A++ And my summary for that season: SEASON ONE - Summary
Like I've been saying all along, I've been thoroughly enjoying my first Charmed re-watch in several years, getting to see what the sisters started like, and wishing they could've remained more like them. Yeah, it took them a while to get their footing, but once they did, oh, it was such fun!
As always, I loved it best when they were acting like sisters, with the supernatural part of it a distant second, especially when that part would scare the bejesus out of me, the reason why I don't watch most supernatural shows which are usually all about special effects trying to (and usually succeeding) in giving me nightmares, or teenagers with a lot of teenaged angst, neither of which appeal to me, but since it appears that both do appeal to others, I can see why they like those shows. It's why I've never watched Buffy or Supernatural, but I can see why others have enjoyed those shows.
I loved Prue and Andy's love story, but I wish that Andy had found out Prue's secret much earlier and that she hadn't lied to him, the way I will always wish that Phoebe didn't lie to Prue about vanquishing Cole - turnabout is fair play, Prue! I wish Prue and Andy had been the couple we got to follow throughout the entire series (with them always being lovers but never married and never having kids, at least not until after the truce in Season 8) rather than Piper and Leo, whose love story I ADORED during this season, but makes me shudder as I remember what happens to it in latter years.
What I didn't like was the glimpses of what they're going to turn into - Prue's pride; Piper's self-centeredness; Phoebe thinking that sex=love. People who love moral ambiguity probably loved those glimpses. I who don't no matter how unrealistic that is don't. When I watch a pure fantasy show, which I'm partially watching so I can get lost in a fantasy world and totally forget about the real world and all of its problems, I want my good characters to be good and my evil characters to be evil and never the twain shall meet.
In most cases this happened during this season, part of why I like it so much and can't wait to watch Season Two, while not looking forward to Season Three when Brad Kern takes over and introduces a morally-grey Cole who messes the whole thing up. That was a couple years ago, but I can't say my reactions have changed much. And although it's now 2022, 6 years since I originally made my choices, my choices haven't changed much. The only difference is I'd take out "Love Hurts". The more I re-watch it, the more I don't like Piper in it. I don't hate the episode - there's too many good things in it, if you ignore Piper - but I don't love it like I did before when the Leo-Piper-Dan triangle turned into my favorite storyline. That definitely isn't the truth now - I hate that storyline as much as I hate PhoeME, Queen of the Underworld (S4), Cole the Stalker (S5), The Lying, Whining, Murdering Brat (S6), The Avatars (S7) and Billie (S8) and added 'From Fear to Eternity'. That one scared the living tar out of me, but now I've re-watched it enough that I know when to close my eyes and not watch and instead love the rest. That is also true for 'The Wendigo', so my listing now (in airing order) is: 1. Dead Man Dating 2. The Witch is Back 3. Wicca Envy 4. Secrets and Guys 5. From Fear to Eternity 6. The Wendigo 7. That 70s Episode 8. Deja vu All Over Again These may change as we continue to re-watch S1, but it's what it is right now.

I haven't selected Secrets and Guys which is a good episode.
Its hard to get passed this is where whitelighters were introduced and how Leo demonstrated by this point more powers than the sister had implying that he was more powerful and that a man had to save the day in Wicca Envy.
Also I dislike how he was written as being sent when they got their powers but it had to be a secret? not really well thought out.
Someone convince me why Secrets and Guys is a best /top 8 episode?

The last half of Season 1 is so beautifully written. From Fear to Eternity until the end. Even the weaker episodes like When Bad Warlocks Go Good are still really good character development episodes. It's just a shame the white lighters are introduced by this point with as many powers that they have. I didn't think much of it when I first watched Season 1, but I would have never have guessed that 'Wicca Envy' and 'Secrets and Guys' would have had that much impact on the rest of the series. I would have preferred Leo's wings being clipped by the end of Season 3 with Paige entering in Season 4 with TK Orbing and Healing powers. Then again, I would have preferred that Shannen Doherty stayed for a 4th and final season. As a Prue fan, of course, I'd want Shannen to stay. I truly love From Fear to Eternity onwards, because I just loved all the stories the sisters had, and the character development for not just Prue but the other two. When Bad Warlocks Go Good might be unpopular, but I actually liked the episode, and it is still watchable compared to many episodes in later seasons. I think when I re-watch S1, I can watch all the second half, and not skip any. Actually looking back, I think S1 might be the only season in the entire series where I actually think all the episodes are written well, and I don't have any that I hate and would skip. Even S2 has some in the second half, I don't like. Of course, I still do not skip any, just S1 had a very wonderfully written last half. If only Andy stayed, I think I felt Andy/Darryl never took any attention off the sisters. So S1 felt somewhat balanced with the sisters, the villain of the week and the small additions of Andy and Darryl with the non-magical world getting involved each episode. This changed starting S2, but more so S3 is where it hits the peak. From Fear to Eternity is one of my favorite episodes, too.

I haven't selected Secrets and Guys which is a good episode. You're not the only one to not select it. I didn't pick it, either, but I still think it's an interesting episode, to watch. Its hard to get passed this is where whitelighters were introduced I'd argue they were introduced back in S1E10 "Wicca Envy" just not by name. Same with the Source. We know of the Source's existence since S1E10 "Wicca Envy", but he isn't officially named until S2E15 "Give Me a Sign". how Leo demonstrated by this point more powers than the sister had implying that he was more powerful I think there are more powerful beings than the Charmed Ones. The Charmed Ones are nothing without each other. Whereas Javna (back in S1E2 "I've Got You Under My Skin") demonstrated great power, over Phoebe (who was alone). and that a man had to save the day in Wicca Envy. I don't like the idea of Leo healing the book but not because he's a man. His gender has nothing to do with this, and I'm getting real sick and tired of the sexist arguments. Not only is Leo being dragged through the mud because he's a man, but both Wyatt & Chris get dragged through the mud for simply being men, and it's really disheartening to hear/read especially since I'm having a boy, along the way, I don't want to bring him into a world that's going to chastise him for being a boy. That being said, S1E10 "Wicca Envy" could've ended better without Leo needed to heal the book. In the Every Season of Charmed Done Your Way thread, though I haven't completed mine, yet, I did alter the ending of this: S1E10 "Wicca Envy"So, the only thing I would change, here, is Leo healing the book which caused the sisters to get their powers back. I'mma have them duck, when Panther Hannah does her pounce which will still kill Rex. And, the lantern breaks, giving the sisters their powers back. Before, they can use their powers on her, Hannah runs away. I'm not having "the Source" (I'm assuming) "kill" (I guess) her, here. I like Hannah, and this isn't the last time, we'll see her (in my version, that is LOL). This is how I would "fix" this episode, personally. I always hated Leo healing the book. I'd rather this episode be the "finale" than S1E22 "Deja Vu All Over Again", and I'll work in how Claire fits into the future episodes. For now, just know that I'm making "Wicca Envy" the "finale" of S1 instead of "Deja Vu All Over Again". Also I dislike how he was written as being sent when they got their powers but it had to be a secret? not really well thought out. This is something I'll absolutely drag Brad Kern through the mud about is his idea of Whitelighters. As S1E10 "Wicca Envy" was the start of it all, and Brad Kern wrote the foundation for it. Sheryl J. Anderson was only applying quotes to that foundation, alongside with Kern. But, it was ultimately Kern's decision to implement whitelighters, who've been a concept (not to mention a mess) since S1 (and his name is credited for it since their creation). I will fully support and back up any criticism regarding Kern and his Whitelighter implementation. Someone convince me why Secrets and Guys is a best /top 8 episode? Nobody really has to convince you of, anything. They like what they like. I certainly don't share the same opinions as many here, but I somewhat understand why they like it. It's fairly Prue centric, and Prue (solo, without her sisters) ends up saving the day, despite Kern trying to weasle his Whitelighter nonsense (which felt like a copy cat version of "Touched by Angel" especially in THIS episode), into the story. I do know "Touched by an Angel" is a loved a series, on this board, so I understand liking the episode because of that, too. Don't feel disheartened just because you're not part of the general populace. You like what you like and can pick what you like. It's better if we don't always agree on everything. It offers new perspective and a new way to look at things. Just know that I didn't pick S1E14 "Secrets & Guys", either. No matter how many times I changed my mind, I never picked it LOL

Picking 8 episodes was even hard for me to do, I managed to end up with 10 episodes. So I cut two episodes out. Mine: - "Dead Man Dating" - "The Truth is Out There and It Hurts" - "Wicca Envy" - "From Fear to Eternity" - "Is There A Woogy in the House?" - "That 70s Episode" - "The Power of Two" - "Deja Vu All Over Again" Mine has changed slightly replace "The Power of Two" with 'The Wendigo'.

Changing all of my votes for these polls to a "Top 5" list instead of "Top 8".
In no particular order: -S1E4 "Dead Man Dating" -S1E9 "The Witch is Back" -S1E11 "Feats of Clay" -S1E19 "Out of Sight" -S1E20 "The Power of Two"

I feel like Out of Sight is the best episode of this season or at least in the top 3. Some facts from wiki - There are multiple innocents saved
- Its family friendly
- It shows the Halliwell's connections to outside friends
- Prue's power develops
- All 3 powers are used
- This is the first episode that explores the long-running theme of Exposure. (And it is sooooo 90s with the vidcam!!!!)
- Andy discovers the sisters are witches in this episode (and reacts appropriately)
- This is the second time Prue telekinetically moves a liquid. The first time was in I've Got You Under My Skin where she redirected some spilling paint.
- This is the first time that Prue throws a potion spilled on the floor onto a demon using her telekinesis. Paige would later do the same via Telekinetic Orbing to vanquish Barbas (Sympathy for the Demon)
- This is the first episode in which a demon is vanquished with a potion (which I assume is enchanted with the Po3?)
- This is the first time the Charmed Ones have to deal with the Grimlocks. The second time is in "All Halliwell's Eve". (Which is IMO the best episode of Season 3)
- Prue says that if the sisters get exposed, a media circus on their front lawn will ensure. This actually happens in "All Hell Breaks Loose".
- Some part of scenes were used as Season 2-3 Opening Credits
- The haircuts are still in iconic form
Every sister contributes to the saving of the innocents in their own way.
The special effects are barable.

As much as I like S1E19 "Out of Sight", I actually think S1E9 "The Witch is Back" might be S1's best episode. We got about the sisters. Some family history. Some comedy. Some romance. Some action. Some solid villains, etc. The one episode I can agree with the masses on.

Its a funny episode too with Phoebe vs Paige and the baby performing magical tricks. But its just the Seer who is the great villan. I think it would have been a great Season 5 storyline if stretched out. One of my fave episodes is LLtQueen though. I love the morality chosing in this episode and the 'how did it get to this?' aspect of the show. For me its where Charmed finishes.

I decided to bump this forward, since my opinions haven't changed much. It's funny how Dream Sorcerer was the first episode I ever caught a glimpse of back in 1999, that drew me into the series when I was about 12 and its the least rated episodes in this poll! Not that it is one of my favourites! It's ironic that in later seasons, bad episodes just had no redeeming qualities. However, Seasons 1, 2 and most of 3 episodes stay true to the sisterly relationship with great onset chemistry and direction, even if the weren't good episodes at all. My 8 Faves in order: SWTWComes That 70's Ep The Witch is Back De Ja Vu All Over Again Woggy Love Hurts Fear Eternity Truth Out There and It Hurts. Wicca Envy, Sigh Unseen, Dead Man Dating and the Power of Two are all great episodes too. Weakest were definitely Dream Sorcerer, The Wedding From Hell and parts from When Bad Warlocks Go Good! Thank you for not Morphing is not such a bad episode and I've Got Your Under My Skin is underrated. I guess Which Prue Is It Anyway? is the Chick Flick/Deadly Sin's/Size Matters episode of Season 1? Not quite sure what you mean by that, especially where I put 'Chick Flick' in the funny episodes along with 'Sin Francisco' and 'Sense and Sense-Ability', all among my favorite episodes. But you're right that there were redeeming qualities in all of these episodes, even though I don't like watching a number of them (like Dream Sorcerer) that was just too scary for me. From Fear to Eternity 5. Secrets and Guys 6. That 70s Episode 7. The Fourth Sister - B 8. The Truth is Out There and It Hurts - A 9. The Witch is Back - A+ 10. Wicca Envy - A+ 11. Feats of Clay - B- 12. The Wendigo - C- 13. From Fear to Eternity - A+ 14. Secrets and Guys - A+ 15. Is There a Woogy in the House? - B 16. Which Prue Is It Anyway? - B 17. That 70s Episode - A+++ 18. When Bad Warlocks Turn Good - A 19. Out of Sight - A- 20. The Power of Two - A 21. Love Hurts - C 22. Deja vu All Over Again - A++ And my summary for that season: That was a couple years ago, but I can't say my reactions have changed much.
