Saw this at another site and very simply had to share:

I agree that the Prue-Phoebe relationship was one of the most, if not the very most, captivating one of the season, and perhaps the whole show, despite Prue not being there for the majority. At the beginning, it was obvious that they loved each other but didn't like each other. They had a history together, evidenced clearly in the pilot when Phoebe is purposefully irritating Prue in the pharmacy. They're used to each other enough to live together and trust each other, yet there's a constant tension.
I also thought the Power of Two was a great episode to showcase this. Not only do we get to see the two of them having to work together despite near-constant arguments, but it also helps us learn more about each character on her own as well. Prue is hit from every direction in this episode. Her boss is angry with her, Andy is frustrated with her for telling him about being a witch and then him not remembering, and Phoebe argues with her over their shared house responsibilities. Meanwhile, I got the sense that Phoebe's rant about Prue being angry that Phoebe doesn't work was directed more at Phoebe herself. And on top of all this, they still have to work together to save the day.

I know I wouldn't mind seeing another power of two ep with the second set.
Season one is great. I wish that Tempus and Roderious had been expanded throughout the season.
I wish that Rex and Hannah had been saved for season 2.
That way they would have trouble with the law and in the work place. Imagine warlocks as the big bad and a metaphors for the boss from hell.

I especially loved the Power of Two for the reason we got to see them together without Piper, which also happened again at the start of season 3. It is too bad we didn't get to see this build up in season 4 had Shannen not been fired. The arc in season 4, desperately needed Prue involved for the Prue-Phoebe relationship to reach a crossroads, when Phoebe joined Cole with Piper in the middle.

Back then they hit the jackpot with casting. Shannen and Holly were already ver sister like in real world. And Alyssa did not have connection to them. So Prue and pipers connection can be see/felt from the start. As well as Phoebe trying to fit in!

They're all great individually, but their real-life dynamic was very similar to the one written for the show.

Have to give it to the writers for writing them that way. Ditto for what happened in Season Four.

I think the writers did a wonderful job. Both Alyssa and Rose were new in their debut seasons, against the other two actresses dears. So it worked perfect for the writing of the characters.

I love the relationship between the sisters. It is what got me watching, and how they juggled normal life with having powers and fighting evil.
Piper is such a sweet character. I just can't get over how much I hate her when she got married and had children.
Prue was very mean in the start, and then she got better.
Phoebe was just always my favorite, and loved her the most in season 1.

I found myself feeling the most at ease with Season 1. There isn't any of the stuff that holds other seasons back, no forced love plots, no budget constrains, no executive meddling and best of all no offscreen drama. It feels the most innocent and fun of all the seasons. When I watch Season 1 I feel its the vision Connie wanted it to be, the sisters are all great, very 90's for the time it came out and such a nice experience every time I rewatch it. In fact it makes me dislike the later seasons more for how less fun the show became. Even the girl's wardrobe wasn't ridiculously questionable, it felt like I was watching them live their lives and magic was apart of them. Season 1 also has my favorite box cover of the seasons because when I see Prue, Piper and Phoebe grouped together I feel like I'm seeing three sisters and not three women in scandulous poses like later season boxsets (especially season 6). The only flaw I can really say is the 90's tropes can work against it from today's perspective, the easy way enemies are beaten and conclusions of how they die can feel lacking to most, but really I can say that a lot for formulaic shows in the 90s. Season 1 is a fun experience and really the season I'd recommend most for people who claim the show is too "drama centric" which is only the case for the later seasons. I also love how 90's the cinematography is, especially in the earlier parts I love it gave their house a plain, but simple appeal. It's almost sad to see how the sisters we get here change for the worst overtime, Phoebe and Piper are just a lot of fun as oppose to what they devolve into. Especially Piper who truly felt like the heart of the Halliwell family with her neurotic and mousy personality, now if only her Post Marriage didn't change that. *sigh* I still have good memories of seeing mousy Piper trying to enter a church because she's afraid of being evil as being related to being witches. I also miss Piper's bangs which contrasted to her then peaceful personality. I also feel Piper's normal life feels the most relatable in this season. She's very nervous about not controlling their powers so some frustration is warranted, they are thrown into a world full of warlocks who want to kill them too. Prue and Phoebe also have the best conflict and development than anything in the entire show, I think its my favorite part of the season. I also feel this ending credits music feels like it represents Season 1 a simple, campy, but fun and peaceful season www.youtube.com/watch?v=McTyhq5_958

As where making our way through S1 with the board re-watch. I couldn't agree more. I love the music score used in S1 for the end credits. A number of the re-watchers said it was so much better than the theme they kept. Also wasn't the score in S1 scenes during all the episodes ten times better. A shame they removed it after S1. Doesn't it help when the show is like it should be based on Connie and her older sisters Edie and Laura. And yes. Most of us love Piper's subplots at Quake and her normal life. I truly am finding S1 is the most sisterly centric season. It truly is central to their relationship not their love interests. And this might be the only season in the series before Piper's central arc focuses on her love life. Prue and Phoebe's relationship is so much fun in S1. I love the one's where they are together in plots. Especially how you can see them bonding. I love S2. And excited to start our re-watch it with the board and Cafe in October. But S1 could turn out to be my favorite based just on how I feel it is the best in terms of juggling normal life verses sisterly relationship verses innocents verses the demons so well. Codebox, what are your favorite episodes of seaaon 1? If you are free and want to of course,. I'd love if you joined our board re-watches?

Was re-reading this thread and found this post. I definitely thought of our re-watch, our re-re-watch and our two versions of Classic Charmed Done Our Way as I read it... Good idea, especially since that tends to be a favorite of most of fans so we might bring some positivity to the site. Here's my Season One Summary from my latest re-watch. My opinions haven't changed too much since then. SEASON ONE - Summary
Like I've been saying all along, I've been thoroughly enjoying my first Charmed re-watch in several years, getting to see what the sisters started like, and wishing they could've remained more like them. Yeah, it took them a while to get their footing, but once they did, oh, it was such fun!
As always, I loved it best when they were acting like sisters, with the supernatural part of it a distant second, especially when that part would scare the bejesus out of me, the reason why I don't watch most supernatural shows which are usually all about special effects trying to (and usually succeeding) in giving me nightmares, or teenagers with a lot of teenaged angst, neither of which appeal to me, but since it appears that both do appeal to others, I can see why they like those shows. It's why I've never watched Buffy or Supernatural, but I can see why others have enjoyed those shows.
I loved Prue and Andy's love story, but I wish that Andy had found out Prue's secret much earlier and that she hadn't lied to him, the way I will always wish that Phoebe didn't lie to Prue about vanquishing Cole - turnabout is fair play, Prue! I wish Prue and Andy had been the couple we got to follow throughout the entire series (with them always being lovers but never married and never having kids, at least not until the truce in Season 8) rather than Piper and Leo, whose love story I ADORED during this season, but makes me shudder as I remember what happens to it in latter years.
What I didn't like was the glimpses of what they're going to turn into - Prue's pride; Piper's self-centeredness; Phoebe thinking that sex=love. Had these glimpses been all we would've seen throughout the entire series, that would be perfect since they wouldn't be perfect and boring. But we all know better as Prue's pride will lead to her death; Piper's self-centeredness will turn her into Poor, Poor, Pitiful Piper and Phoebe thinking that sex=love will turn her into PhoeME.
People who love moral ambiguity probably loved those glimpses and what came from them. I who don't no matter how unrealistic that is don't. When I watch a pure fantasy show, which I'm partially watching so I can get lost in a fantasy world and totally forget about the real world and all of its problems, I want my good characters to be good and my evil characters to be evil and never the twain shall meet. This is especially true of Rex and Hannah. I'm so glad they didn't end up being good - Rex is so deliciously evil and I love his version of astral projection. I really wish that only Hannah had died (can't stand that horrible parody of a woman) and Rex had remained the Big Bad of the entire series with the sisters not finding out that their archenemy is Prue's boss until the finale - were he the Source rather than the Source's minion (a pure waste!) he'd make a better archenemy than either the Source or even Zankou just because he's smart and has that wonderfully evil power of being able to control minds. But that's probably why he had to be vanquished and never returned - he was *too* powerful...but I can wish.

I still love the ending credits by Jay Gruska its so peaceful and matches the tone of Season 1 perfectly. What's funny is that Dead Man Dating is literally a plot centered around Piper falling for a ghost, yet it was a romance plot done right! All the more reason Piper and Mark should've been end game. My favorite Season 1 episodes would be That 70's Episode Dead Man Dating The Power of Two Love Hurts Secrets and Guys Deja Vu All Over Again The Witch is Back I've Got You Under My Skin Which Prue is it Anyway? I feel each of these episodes encapsulates why Season 1 works well and why I enjoy the season as a whole.

You and me both, Jean. Not sure where you're located, Codebox, but if you could make one of our re-watches, I think you'd make a fantastic member of Team Charmed Cafe, even if you decide not to be part of Classic Charmed Done Our Way. I'm located in the US, not sure if you guys have the same timezone or area of residence? Where do you guys do re-watches at? Hello dear, I'm enjoyed your comments.
As for our re-watch, I'm in Australia, and we have some located in Canada. I'm not sure where in US you are located dear, but since you came online when it was around dinner time for me in Australia, I'm assuming you are on Eastern Daylight Time, although I'm most likely wrong. Since our re-watches are set to Central Time.
And our S1 re-re-watch, is coming to an end in three weeks, because we are starting our S2 re-watch on October 12 & 13. We are doing a couple of double episodes for the next fortnight, and I think it might be a little pressure joining us, that if you wanted to start fresh for when we do S2, you most certainly can.
At the end of our re-watch, we grade the episodes with an from an A+ through to an F--, (We can also give out between one-three A++ to the standout episodes of the season and an A+++ to the most outstanding to one a season) and share our top three moments of the episode. One of our members Summer, is taking all our grades and moments, and she has them in a spreadsheet, and when we complete S1, is going to share the results and the official Cafe Board average for each episode.
We are doing a CCDOW rewrite of the series, and after each episode, both groups on Saturday and Sunday come and discuss how we'd change the episodes to fit our rewrites.
Since you seem to love Piper/Mark, I'm sure you'd LOVE our version of CCDOW Sunday, which does use Piper/Mark. Saturday's group is very different that it is using a Power of Four than a Power of Three, with their half older sister, Peyton, who is a part-demon.
Even if you decide not to be part of Classic Charmed Done Our Way, we'd understand. But, oh, would that be fantastic if you did dear.
As for our re-watches, they are on Saturday and Sunday nights. But because of Daylight Savings time and all the changes most of our countries are having for me in Australia in October and USA/Canada in November, it might be a little confusing.
But we start at 6 Central US time on Saturday Nights and 5 Central Sunday Nights for the next two fortnights, as we are doing double episodes to finish off our re-re-watch of S1, before starting S2 the weekend of Oct 12 & 13.
Normally they are 7 Central time Saturday and Sunday Nights. But during Daylight Savings (US) Sunday's had them at 6 Central to work around a member Olga's baby schedule. Do those times fit with your schedule dear? Of course, if not, we'd understand.
Of course, up to you dear, we'd love to have you, Elle Em and GZV or any other member at the Cafe join us, but if not, we all understand. I hope this has helped, if you need any further questions, I'm sure one of the members part of the re-watch and or CCDOW discussions will be happy to answer them for you.

Now I'm curious to find out how these grades compared to my grades from the re-re-watch... OOO - I liked seeing this dear. I hope Team Charmed Cafe, might decide to do our own S1 review like this when we are done.
Like you, I can't wait to find out, when Summer shares the results she has been keeping for the past year in her spreadsheet. So we can compare yours especially, and see how ours all looks. Of course, find our what the official and set Cafe averages look like.
But, am I excited to see when we keep on going with our re-watch season after season, where the tally of overall rankings sits after each season finishes, to see truly which episodes end up being in the top 10 with Summer's spreadsheet.

Season Overall Grade: A
Now I'm curious to find out how these grades compared to my grades from the re-re-watch... I had fun reading this Es.
I'm very curious to Es, and sure Summer will have all that data to share for us. I'm also excited to find out what the Cafe averages are, and or our Season Overall Grade for the Cafe re-watchers too.
Especially to see how our Season Overall Grades compare as we keep going. I've never really find doing polls helps get a good indication, because I'm always uncertain, if the people voting have seen the episodes enough to make a good judgment. This way, just works bette because I'm finding out what members and fans like with our grading. Also the moments is just so much fun, because I love seeing what we all love as the best moments on Charmed. All in all, this re-watch couldn't have been more fun. And hope more and more new members do decide to give it a try. It's this that got me interested to join this board.
Also, be fun to compare the results from this and the re-re-watch for you Es. So, be fun when Summer shares it with us with her results and grades she collected for the spreadsheet she did, and we can ALL find out together.

Codebox. Why thank you I'm an avid fan of the show. lol And sure I would like too when I have time. I wouldn't mind delving into some re-watches, might even broaden some perspectives to mine. When you have time, I'd love if you could, but if you can't. I'd understand, even if you can't make the re-watch times, you are free to review the episodes in your own time for us to read in the threads.
Oh yes, you get great new perspectives into the series, by re-watching. And we all can't wait to keep this going and going season after season, so we can see how we feel about Charmed now. I just know, for myself personally, it might be a struggle to re-watch some of the later seasons, but I'm curious to see where I might stop, and see where the show jumped the sharked.
I agree, wasn't that end credit theme so perfect, I honestly, wished it was the theme for the entire series. I just like the music and tone so much.
What's funny, is CCDOW the Sunday group is actually doing a little more with Piper/Mark in the rewrite of the series which we do following each re-watch, and discuss it.
Good choices of S1 episodes, most of those are also my favorites and I gave given an A or higher to at least some of those you mentioned, and some of our members from the re-watch are their all-time favorites.
It's too bad that the tone didn't continue in S2, I wished Andy stayed too. Because I just felt he never would have taken the attention off the sisters the way Leo did. Being non-magical, he never would be able to do that much and would provide a human and non-magical element for the series, that always was lacking, when they threw in Cole and Leo. Darryl wasn't in that many episodes, and Andy being their childhood friend, he'd be able to do more.
I'm finding re-watching S1, Andy and Darryl never take the focus off the sisters. In-fact, the season feels the most sisterly centric. I haven't found a single episode, that took focus off that. Also, don't you just love when the sisters rely on the book and their own common sense to figure out how to vanquish a demon or save an innocent, without checking on the Elders or Leo?

Have to agree. I mean I love Cole as a character, but he really did take focus away from the sisters and Phoebe destroyed the bond developed with Prue and Piper. But its weird how Season 1 was able to do romance plots, but not shift the focus away from the sisters or have the sisters be so insufferable around them. Andy died too soon imo, I feel Andy should've been the regular over Darryl, not to say I don't like Darryl, but Andy having a personal connection with the sisters would've had more impact of subplots. The later seasons are going to be such a chore I know it. Especially season 6 (I rewatched a few episodes and the flaws became so painfully obvious I literally never felt so drained watching a Charmed episode like in Season 6, even the ones that annoyed me didn't drain me as much. Season 6 feels awful, not from a writing sense, but from an overall production sense. I love Which Prue is it Anyway because it shows different sides of Prue not really seen and is a part of her character development. I love Dead Man Dating for how surprisingly well written it is, and you can't say that about Charmed normally. It gives the innocent Mark character, the bond with him and Piper is adorable and the Chinatown setting would've been interesting custom to add to the show. Love Hurts is basically what Piper and Leo should've been, why is Piper so understanding and loving in this one episode than she is to Leo at almost any other point? I loved that scene in the end where they were talking and she understood him.
