6I'm loving these polls at the moment.
Overall - what do you think is the best written season based both individual episodes and the overall writing/story of the season?

Oh, man, that's hard! Both S1 and S2 had good episodes, great episodes, but some really bad ones. But I had to go with S1, mainly due to the beautiful way Piper & Leo and Prue & Andy were written as compared to the Dan-Piper-Leo mess, especially with having Piper make the wrong choice.
But I'm with you - I LOVE the polls!

Im glad you had fun with polls too. Much like i did coming up with ones last year. I see you and grannycharmed are having just as much fun.
Very hard. I originally voted season 2 but changed to season 1. Because i loved the writing here. Plus it had a great balance and i loved the Prue/Andy story and i liked some of the writers who left after season 1.

First season for me too dears. Of course my favorite written episode That 70s episode is among them. ☺
But I was fascinated and found the Prue/Andy story so beautiful. Piper/Leo as much as dislike where they go, I appreciate how they are written here.
I also loved Quake. How that place fitted our show so very much. It should of stayed with Piper buying it or just owning it and changing it. My granddaughter liked P3. Look I get the appeal - *but* It didnt feel right, and even Piper too, having it.
Oh mrmilano and west73. These polls are *SO* much fun. As you both said.

P3 was the result of more WB Executive Meddling. They thought that it would be cool to have the latest "big" band on Charmed. I guess it never occurred to them that most of those bands would soon slip into obscurity.
P3 and the band that played there has now only helped to date the series.

Definitely Season 1. The writing for the sisters was at its peak, and it was the season that was the most free of executive meddling.
Season 2 had a lot of great episodes, too, but it's brought down by the love triangle, Jenny, and some really awful early episodes.

Considering how the Piper/Leo/Dan love triangle derailed Season Two, one can understand why Connie didn't want Cole on the show. A love story ruined one season, she didn't want it happening again.
However, the WB executives would have their way in the end when they pushed Connie out and installed their yes-man, Kern.

I had to give it to Season 2. Although it didn't have a big arc, I didn't care, it's an enjoyable season of good standalone episodes that weren't trying to go "all out" like some of the later seasons' episodes were. Even though I prefer Seasons 3 & 4 overall, I enjoyed the sisters' relationship most during Season 2. I loved Season 1 as well, don't get me wrong, but Prue was too guarded and the sisters didn't become a close-knit unit until Season 2. Their relationship was best during Season 2 because their men weren't yet huge distractions and entire points didn't yet revolve around them.
I also loved the "life lessons" in Season 2 and the responsibilities of being Charmed that the sisters learned ('Morality Bites', 'Awakened', 'Apocalypse, Not').

Ahhh Sorry Es, I am going to have to go with Deano too! hehehe! True, it doesn't have a great story arc and has little mini ones like Bane and the Awakened/Monkeys eps. I actually think I am one of the few (or the only one) that liked (ok not loved) the Leo-Dan-Piper storyline. I love how Piper wasn't the most "stunning" sister, (although she was beautiful in her own right inside/ out) yet she had two yummy guys chasing after her while still being that awkward middle sister in between the very fiery Prue and confident Phoebe. When I rewatch Season 1 and 2 episodes, I actually fast forward Pru and Andy moments but watch through the awkward love triangle stuff! I too, prefer Season 3 and 4 for enjoyment but your right - the sister's relationship was at its best IMO in Season 2. Thye had a mutual respect for one another and a united front. Yes yes yes! The life lessons were great - we kept on hearing "we can't be selfish". You really got a string of wholesome well-wrriten episodes in the later half of Season 2 and the show is a little more defined by this point. The downfall to Season 2's writing was that string of early episodes including :The Devils Music, She's a man Baby, That Old Black Magic and They're Everywhere. I did like the sisterly backstories in some of these episodes, but they are probably the worst episodes of the Season. However, compared to Seasons 6 and 8 they look like gold. I'm a fan of Season 4 so I do like some of the episodes written in there as well as most of Season 1. Season 3 and it's evil empire building and Cole got away from the focus of the show which was the sister. Season 5 - 8 were rubbish in terms of writing. I can only think of a some of hand- Sympathy Centennial, A Witch in Time, Sense and Sensibility, Styx Feet Under, Witchness Protection, SWTWGoes.

Well, as you probably know by now, I'm not a fan of late S3 or S4 outside of Paige's introduction - just not a Phoebe/Cole fan due to how it ruined my favorite character, Phoebs. The funny thing is I have to admit that both are very well-written for what they do, so I'm a bit surprised that more people haven't voted for them. There's a huge difference between liking what was written and admitting that the episodes were well-written. That might also be why I like S1 more, even if on the whole, I like the sisters more in S2 - the writers in S1 just did such a great job of showing the sisters coming to terms with being Charmed and what that all means, even if I didn't always like how it was done. This is particularly true of Prue, who I don't like at all at the beginning of S1 (just like I don't like her at the end of S3), but do by the end of S1. The rest is my favorite "No need to be sorry if you disagree with me - we each have our own opinion. I'd count it very boring if everyone agreed." Believe me, if we could've chosen two, I would've chosen S2 without a second thought.

I voted for season three: is the season of which I like all the episodes, the only one that I can say this
It begins with a balance and a link very nice between the sisters, for the first time they endure, sneaky, hard attacks, aiming directly to their bond as in Power Outage
I think that it is in season 3 that the bond between the sisters grow stronger and precious, in Primrose Empath, Coyote Piper, The Good, The Bad, And The Cursed I love the beginning of Death Takes A Halliwell, Prue and Phoebe together on the beach, a small scene made of nothing, full of serenity

For me it has to be Season 1. That season is just so special: it's the beginning, so everything is new, fresh and innocent, especially the sisters. I love seeing the Halliwell's come into their powers, learn all about magic, their family, Melinda Warren, the Rex and Hannah Arc, little Piper and Prue, Piper and Leo (the only season where I really like them as a couple- they were just so sweet at first), Phoebe being so enthusiastic about magic, Barbas, Tempus, Brendan Rowe, Piper's sense of humor... Of all 8 seasons, I love every single episode of this season, there is not a single episode I dislike (even the one with Hecate).

Unlike most fans, I wasn't bothered by Dan and Piper. I mean, I knew they weren't going anywhere and that Dan was purely introduced as a foil to Piper and Leo's relationship but I didn't mind it that much, it's a popular story-telling convention. Plus he was a nice guy. Yep, it's a shame the lessons of Season 2 didn't stick *sigh*

Excellent points, you can really feel that the sisters are taking their role as Charmed Ones very seriously in Season 2. Episodes such as 'Morality Bites' and 'Apocalypse, Not' would be completely alien post-Season 4. I agree with all your weak episodes of the season but even the weakest episodes of S2 trump the absolutely dross of Seasons 5, 6 and 8. The plots may have been silly, but there's usually always some important/worthy sister moment in them regardless. How funny, those are among my favourite episodes of Seasons 5-8 too!

I'm very surprised that Season 4 hasn't gotten a single vote, with as many fans who consider it to be their favorite season. Maybe the season really wasn't the best, after all.

My favorite seasons are 3 and 4 BUT I think the best WRITTEN seasons must go to seasons 1 and 2, 2 especially for me was wonderful, I think the writers did a great job in really narrowing down the sisters specific character strengths and relly utilizing them to their fullest, not quite sure what happened to change that in later seasons. Heck, who am I kidding, KERN!
