I liked a lot the monsters of the first two seasons I love Greek mythology and its complexity of thought, related to the birth of philosophy and I hate the way it has been trivialized, but that it's not a Charmed mistake only, too many Tv show writers confuse Olympus with Disneyland ROFL! You're so right about that. But Charmed is the first show I've watched that mixed up Valkyries for Amazons. I'm sure it's just so they could use "Valhalla of the Dolls" as a title, just like "Oh, My Goddess!" when those three were so obviously not the Greek Titans who were beaten by the Greek gods, not the Elders. They did mix up Valyries and Amazons. First thing i thought watching was are they dressing up as Xena or Amazons. So I feel it was more a stunt to get the charmed ones to play dress up. Which was the trend from season 5 onwards. However the one time Kern gets a pass since he wanted sword and the city as the opener but WB said no. So we got stuck with the terribly written Valyries 2-parter. Still as a fan of greek mythology and Hercules and Xena growing up. I felt let down by Charmeds greek mythology and cant take it seriously. If the show wasnt on WB, we would be spared these episodes or a better crafted one.

They were not even dressed as Amazons: according to Pausania, the Amazons wore untanned leather leggings, untanned leather short capes and carded wool padding to protect the breast from the shoulder strap, the legend that they cut off their left breast to better hold the arch was part of their propaganda to scare the enemies, always according to Pausania I don't pretend that a costume designer knew the ancient writers but I think she'll be gone to a movie theatre, she'ld have seen the Gladiator: how could she never notice to have dressed the Valkyries as centurions?

It 's true, she copied the costumes of the guards who are at the Coliseum doors for photos with tourists!

They were right with the Valkyries taken dead warriors from the battlefield but definitely NOT to a beautiful island, though to a Great Hall what Valhalla originally is. The warriors are trained (right) but also kept busy with drinking Met after every battle, served by the Valkyries. And the costumes were simply taken from men's fantasy if you ask me.

Agree with everyone on the post-Season 4 "mythology"; it was absolutely abysmal. I think what does it most for me (and most fans) is the costumes, the COSTUMES. Why could they not have just incorporated things like Gods and Valkyries without playing dress-up? They might as well have put the sisters in pointy hats and long black cloaks.

We could have done without a majority of the costumes. I feel bad for what they were forced to wear half the time in the later seasons.

Once again the later seasons get a big fat, zero The verdict is clearly in.

I prefer that the Greek goddesses dressed the classic peplum rather than jeans and T-shirt But the Halliwells weren't supposed to be embodied by the spirits of Greek Gods, they were just given the same Godly powers that the Greeks had but in modern times. The Ancient Greeks simply wore the dress attire of their times (the gowns) when they declared themselves Gods, but the writers of Charmed instead treated the gowns as some form of God uniform.

So much for Rose claiming when she joined Charmed that she wouldn't let anyone put her in a stupid outfit.

This series never really handled mythology very well. Not even during its early seasons.

I voted S1 and S2. After S5 the constant mixing of all those mythological creatures was so confusing to me, I couldn't quite catch up with the storyline like I did till S4. But I think it's not what writers incorporated to the series, it's the way they did it what I couldn't fully enjoy. Anyway, this is just the way I saw it back then.

Season 1 and 2 was just where the magic was and where I felt they did it well. Oh Man - what became of this show by the time season 8 happened. Season 3 and 4 had some good concepts - but so much of the mythology of the Source made no sense to me.

Couldn't agree more that the mythology of the Source being handled poorly. Since this was a witch themed series, Would it have been so bad for the Source to have been a powerful Warlock instead of a demon? If you just take away the title of All Evil away from him and give him a proper name that isn't Source, maybe that would work.
Maybe Warlocks should of just played a much more central role like they did in season 1 and 2. After all, they are more closely tied to witches and are able to blend better with the human world than demons.
But I am sure, most fans loved demons. I didn't mind them at all, some of my favorite villains are demons. But maybe they just didn't fit well as the primary antagonists.
Season 5 and 6 tried to become Greek mythology based. This show just tried too hard to grab whatever mythology it could find. They had the formula right earlier on. I hated the Greek mythology episodes, all of them. Having studied that in high school, it offended me so much.

Charmed created a great mythology in the first two years, thanks to Robert Masello So great that show as Supernatural copied a lot, cupids, Greek gods, Bashnee, leprechauns If the Charmed writers were short of ideas when they resorted to fairy mythology, their scarcity is still feeding other shows

The later seasons had wayyyy more mythology in it than the earlier ones. From a none bias stand point of view Seasons 4-7 had the best mythology.
Gods Titans Nymphs Leprechauns Angel of Death/Destiny Cleaners Avatar etc
We learned more about the elders and Demons in later seasons. The first 3 seasons were geared more towards only demons than the later seasons. However in the later seasons they expanded on the Universe way more and for me that is what made Charmed a classic.

Earlier seasons mostly 1 and 2.
All time worst was S5-7. I didn't like Lucky Charmed, I hated the Irish accents. My ancestors are Irish.
I'm sure others would feel similarly for the cultures the show may have offended. Charmed was just better in 1 and 2 when they were their own thing not trying to copy Buffy or attempt badly at greek or other cultures.

I can see how some would be offended by how Charmed wrote different mythologies. I feel so bad for those having to sit through it.
Sorry prudencehalliwell you had to see the Irish portrayed like that. I'd feel the same way if I were in your position.

I choose seasons 1 and 2 because that's when Charmed did demons or Warlocks the best I think.
