It seems DC thinks the movies have failed. BvS flopped didnt it? So they are giving tv a try unless that stupid rule is over DC made.
But I remembered CW is co owned by WB. So the rights to Superman would cost more on CBS than it would on CW.
Im excited to see Superman. Hope he does not die. I wonder if Lois and Perry appear eventually. Cats rivalry with Lois would be great to see.

From what I understand the only stuff they've actually banned the CW from using is the Suicide Squad, The Flash was on TV first so they couldn't do away with that and CW used to have Smallville obviously so they've already had Superman on TV. From what I understand of the DC movies, BvS didn't flop, it just got bad reviews. I know they've recently had a big reorganisation of their creators for the movies to make them more of a lighter tone similar to Marvel so we'll see how that goes.

But they've already had the Suicide Squad on the CW. At least a group with that name. We haven't seen them in a while and I can't say I want to (especially since they killed off the most interesting, in my opinion, of the suicide squad), but they've been in a few episodes of Arrow.

DC should give up on the movies and focus on TV. Almost half the CW line up is DC shows.
Leave the big screen to Marvel, DC, and concentrate on television, where you've had the most success.

That's very true, but from what I've heard that was before they gave the go ahead for the movie, so once they put that into production they told CW to quit using them, it's why they killed of Deadshot in Arrow.

Who here thinks that DC should just give up on the movies? As I said, television is where they've found success. Why not just stick with that.

*Hand raised* I'd much rather watch a series that last for hours and hours and hours than a movie that doesn't even last for two or even a series of movies that take forever for the next one to come out. Better still . . . give me a book. Not a comic book, but a good solid three or four hundred page book. And then give me a sequel to that and keep going as if it was a TV series in printed form.

Well if DC's not doing alright in the film department then they should stick with television maybe although some people mightn't want a whole network devoted to superheros even though that's not the case at the moment.

Unless they did the Netflix platform like Marvel has. Then a mini series of Justice League.
But they can easily pull an Agent Carter type limited series of 8-10 episode inbetween and have the other CW shows avoid constant hiatus breaks.
But if we get a fifth DC show and just one more. Superman would be the best one to do. Lois and Clark from the 90s was my first exposure to Superhero shows in 93/94 when i was 6. I have waited ages for another superman series. Yes i liked snallville but clark was never superman.

I adored Lois and Clark and although I am interested in Smallville, I'll wait to watch it until I can watch the entire series in a row. My sister absolutely hates it, although she was willing to watch the episode with Jodelle Ferland . . . actually, she wasn't just willing, that was her idea. It's one of the only episodes I have seen. The only other one I know of for sure is the first one with Oliver. I'd been reading the Smallville comics and wondered if I'd liked him as much in the TV series as the connected comics. I didn't, but he was still pretty interesting and one of the better parts of that particular episode. From what I can tell of the series the best parts of it were Oliver and Chloe. And if the TV seasons are half as good as the comics, I will enjoy them.

Well if you like the playboy cocky side of Oliver then you'll like Smallville him.
Justin played him well I think.
I liked Oliver except when he went dark a couple of times.
I wasn't a Chloe/Oliver fan myself actually.
The show both coupled them as a nod to fanfiction fans actually who there was a legion of because so many stories had been written on them.
I shipped Kara and Oliver although they only met one episode I'd wrote stories on them beforehand.

Me too. As I said, it's nice touch that they cast Dean Cain as Kara's human adoptive father on Supergirl.
And her human foster mother is Helen Slater, who was Kara in the 1984 Supergirl movie.

At this rate Erica Durance from Smallville as Lois will play Lois deceased mother in flashbacks. Keeping the trend of former Lois Lanes playing the mothers in new versions.
I find it cool that Teri Hatcher played Lois' Mother on Smallville. Complete with her iconic Lois hairstyle in a wig. Heck Teri looked no older than ahe did as Lois in the 90s with that wig.
I love Smallville. But i didnt get into it until season 8 aired. I had such childhood memories of Lois and Clark, after only 4 years since it ended. I couldn't get into a new superman show even if its a before superman version.
I hope we can get Teri Hatcher, Tom Welling and Erica Durance on the show.
Love to see Teri and Dean reunite onscreen again. That would be the best thing and make me a happy fan.

I remember watching Lois and Clark back in the day.
I actually fancied Dean Cain then when he played Superman who was one of my teenage crushes.
Yes the CW do seem to favour having former Superman show actors/actresses in future shows for some reason as well as other superhero playing people like Linda Carter who played Wonder Woman being Chloe's mum in Smallville.

Spot on. I agree with you. Movies dont give much leg room for story and character development. Man of Steel felt like way too much of action and special effects. Seriously Henry Cavill barely had many lines in a majority of the film. Half the time i felt that film would work better as a 2 part film. Doesnt help they had a 3 year gap between the two films. Seriously, at this rate a true sequel to man of steel won't be out for another 6 years. Its why I so want a new superman series. We have seen his origin story so much for decades and his early years as superman. A older in his 30s to late 30s Superman is quite different with his story esblished already. Doubtful but i so wish we do get a spinoff from supergirl on superman. It would just be the last fit to fully round off the DC-TV universe and were set. Doubtful but i can wish. After Lois and Clark getting canceled. I really want just a new show on superman. I loved smallville but felt cheated we never got him as superman. I know fans would be angry we didnt get tom as superman. But if he doesnt want that job, then let another take it.

I did watch both "The Adventures of Lois & Clark" and partly (not all seasons) of "Smallville" since Superman is a great character. Yet I'm more influenced by the movies with Christopher Reeve, I think.

Oh wasnt that annoying. Exactly. I was hoping for more than a prologue like you have mentioned. Plus the next installment this year is on superman vs batman. We got cheated out of a true traditional superman story. Its like its all over the place. Now we wont get that until as i mentioned years since justice league is next. Wat to give poor superman/clark little attention. When the man of steel set up his story then the next one deals with batman now justice league. Seriously we havent even gotten a traditional superman story yet with him in his natural habitat and dealing with his story as superman.

DC is clearly trying to replicate Marvel's success on the Big Screen. However, the problem is that, while the Marvel movies are out and out fun (with deadpan snarkers like Tony Stark), the DC movies are WAY too dark and serious. People clearly prefer the Marvel light and fun movies to the DC dark and gloomy movies.
At least the DC shows are light and fun, which is why I think they're succeeding while the movies are failing.
