That's why they should have kept him. Jana's AU series shows just how Chris's story could have continued into the final two seasons. I think one of the biggest mistakes the show ever made was not realizing what a great idea they had with Chris. His story was their big chance to redeem the show after the disastrous Season 5, and they blew it. Not that I know of. Of course, I could see people wanting a Cole spin-off, a la Angel. However, a huge campaign was never built around a Cole spin off like there was with TCS. And, there's a reason for that: Cole had actually worn out his welcome by the end of his run on the show. The Source storyline tainted the character for many who enjoyed him in Season 3 and early Season 4, and the less said about the "story" he had in Season 5, the better. As horrible of an episode as "Centennial Charmed" was, few were sad to see Cole go. If Chris was a character who had tragically been cut short, then Cole was one who had been dragged out for too long.

When I first watched, I loved it for Chris Crossed and the potential of that Chris vs. Wyatt. But rewatching the mess of episodes surrounding CC, I just don't get it. Fantastic idea! Terrible execution.

Well, the only comfort I can take is that Chris was not butchered as a character the way Cole was. By the time Cole was written off, his character had been damaged beyond all hope of repair. His one off appearance in Seven Year Witch did undo some of the damage, but not all of it.
Sadly, Jackie, that happened a lot on Charmed. When you have an incompetent writing staff, a show runner who has no emotional investment in the show, and a network that just doesn't give a damn, this is what you're gonna get.
Obscurus Lupa said it best: If it's a good idea, Charmed will find a way to screw it up. With Kern and the WB in charge, failure was the only possible outcome.

Yeah, I don't get why they created this amazing, intriguing backstory with "Chris-Crossed" only to follow it up with a piece of crap filler like "Witchstock." Did they really think that BS was what viewers wanted to see? Well, the only comfort I can take is that Chris was not butchered as a character the way Cole was. By the time Cole was written off, his character had been damaged beyond all hope of repair. His one off appearance in Seven Year Witch did undo some of the damage, but not all of it. Sort of like how getting killed off prevented Prue from suffering the same kind of character derailment as Piper and Phoebe. Sometimes death has a silver lining.

Season 2 for sure. Such a good season and so many great episodes. Get's overlooked because of the Piper/Leo/Dan Triangle. Had no real big bad, but that is what makes this season great. The same way, Season 5 is great if you remove Cole's story and Cole from it.

Seasons 2 and 7. Season 7 especially as, in my opinion, it is much better than the more frequently praised Season 6. Season 7 does have its moments. I do love Something Wicca This Way Goes, I felt more emotional attached to this final than the real final. Lots of mentions of the past, a great villain in Zankou as the end big bad, lots of twists, turns and suspense. I don't like the start of the season, and don't like the middle though.

I agree that the start of S7 is weak and there are some, frankly, awful episodes in it but I preferred the season to 6 and 8 because the Avatar/Zankou arc still focused on the sisters, as opposed to whiney pre-teens *cough* Chris and Billie*.

I like the second part of season 7, full of good ideas
They'ld right away start the season with Avatars's story, linked to the grief for Chris death and the bitterness provoked bu Gideon and the Elders who didn't stop him

I think the show was back on track in the second part. Had it been the last season, I might have been more satisfied with that as the last season than season 8. Even though I still wouldn't have liked the beginning.

Had never even considered that, but you might be perfectly right since the new writers for S5-8 weren't as good as the earlier ones, especially if the strike meant that Kern didn't have anything to do with the show.

Interesting, I never thought about that at all. I didn't know a writers strike had occurred or was at risk of in 2004 or 2005? I thought that was the famous one of 2007/08 after the show ended. But if so, interesting. But you are onto something, if this meant Kern had little control over the show at that time. He wasn't responsible for many scripts in season 7, and only wrote the first episode fully. Which gives us a taste of what a season with little control by Kern is like.

I feel like that the Avatar arc of Season 7 gets an unnecessary bad rap. I think it's incredible and I love Rose's performance throughout.

I will always wonder if more people would've liked S8 if they didn't dislike the sisters so much by that point. I hated both Piper and Phoebe by this point (Leo, too) so it was hard to like the season. Had it been S3 (adjusted to fit what was going on), since at the end of S2, I still loved all three while since by the end of S3 I didn't like Prue; I didn't like Piper; and I hated PhoeME, if I went into S8 right after S2, I might have liked it more. And I know I would've preferred Billie and Christy's story over Cole's, especially if they were played by different actors.

It's interesting how your opinions change on the sisters based on seasons, Es given your signature and all. Have to say, first time I see so much fluctuation between choices regarding seasons. I didn't like Prue S2-S3 but the other sisters I mostly loved, even if Paige became my favourite through all seasons by the end.

Season 2. I don't get why it's even hated. No arc or that love triangle.
But Season 5 maybe, if only they fixed three key things. Ditch Cole. Let Paige keep her job and let Phoebe quit hers to find herself and go back to magic and have Paige's story of S5 (seen that idea around here before). Also toss out the finale and I might enjoy S5 more. Maybe.

Season 2 for me. A lot of great stand out episodes, no overall big bad, and three likeable sisters. What more could you want then?
